  1. I can't believe that I'm already 3 weeks out now. I had some meatloaf last night, I know it's not puree, but it was definitely soft. It was the best thing ever! Lol I can't get over how amazing it was. I was so happy and satisfied since I haven't been wanting food. Things haven't tasted good. But that, omg! Lol plus, has anyone just stick to water? Because I feel like the drink mixes are too sweet and hurt my throat haha. It doesn't satisfy my tastebuds. So water it is. Not a bad thing, but I do want something different too..
  2. Hi all! I am 5 weeks out of bypass surgery and will turn 61 tomorrow. The healing process has been easier than I expected. I initially went in to get help with my hiatal hernia and severe acid reflux. Long story short, my surgeon told me that bypass would be the best answer for me. I was recently diagnosed as a diabetic and have high BP. Both of those are so much better that I am off my diabetes meds already and hoping my BP meds will be reduced soon. I go for a follow up with my dr. next week. I am hoping to get cleared to do more exercising than just walking. My sister-in-law wants me to join her doing some high intensity workouts with an online program she belongs to. She is very fit already (she is a kick ass police officer) so I have some catching up to do! I want to strengthen my arms, legs and abs to get ready for golf season. I am an avid golfer, not the best in our league but I only started a few years ago. Very competitive chick here! When I went for a group meeting (others going through the same surgery) with the nutritionist a couple weeks before surgery, I was by far the oldest one in the room which I was just fine with. Just wondering if there are any more of you out there in my age group that are also on this journey.

    Nope I didn’t & don’t. I prefer to know exactly what I’m eating from ingredients to cooking style. I portion out & freeze a lot of what I cook so I have a wide variety of meals a simple defrost & reheat away. All I have to prep & cook are vegetables & I can do that in a couple of minutes. I happily eat the same meal I’ve cooked for a couple of days & only cook from scratch every three or four days. At the moment I have multiple portions of beef & barley and chicken & lentil soups, zucchini noodle bolognese, pork schnitzel, lamb cutlets, steak, roast chicken, savoury egg muffins, etc. I’m adding two portions of lamb back strap tonight. My freezer is literally full of meals. But you have to do what works best with your family. Just check the nutrition information very carefully.

    Of course!! Any time. And since I work full time, I'm in school, I sell Arbonne, I work out 5 days per week, and I'm dealing with some crazy health issues, having Factor 75 meals that I can just pop in the microwave anytime is a huge help. They come already cooked. Nothing to prep and cook. Just heat in the microwave and call it good. LOVE it. If you only want dinners, I'd go with the 3 meal box because you'll get 6 meals out of it. If you want breakfast and dinner, go for the 6 meal box and choose 3 of each. You'll get 6 breakfasts and 6 dinners out of it.

    Should I get surgery

    No I haven’t had a revision or need to repair a complication. I have three friends who have also had surgery & they haven’t either. Revisions are sometimes needed (for personal choice like to lose additional weight or medical reason like gerd) & sometimes a complication arises that needs corrective surgery but they aren’t all that common. Ask your surgeon how many they have done. You may be surprised.

    Oh! Funny, my surgeon made a point to tell me I have a “darn beautiful liver” which totally cracked me up. It made the two week pre op diet all worth it! Lol

    Thank you for posting, I was wondering the same thing as you. Am I done losing weight? We also share similar stats. My surgery day, I weighed 227 and at six months I had lost 65 pounds. My goal is to get to 149 so my BMI is normal. Over the last couple of weeks, my weight has stayed so same. I am happy you were able to lose the additional weight you wanted and I hope I can lose my last 10 pounds as well!
  9. But I'm not hungry at all. I'm not eating lmao. Also I tried the juices, it's not something I still drink to this day. My body isn't the biggest fan of citrus so I tried about two glasses over two weeks and stopped.

    I've used Factor 75 and it's been awesome. They have keto, paleo, low calorie, "regular", etc... And you choose all your meals and you can choose how many meals you get each week. They make things so much easier. 1 meal (which I would have completely laughed at before my surgery) actually lasts for 2 meals. So getting the 3 or 4 meal box (cheaper options) lasts a full week. If I get the 6 meal box and choose 3 dinners and 3 breakfasts, that lasts me all week. I do a homemade protein shake for lunch everyday, so it works out well (I do the keto Arbonne shakes and add things like triple seeds, avocado, fruit, mct oil, almond milk, almond butter, etc to them). I've loved it. And I can eat what I want on my schedule.
  11. Thanks Isabel. I’ve only been constipated the first week. It was absolutely horrible and very painful. Since that week all I’ve had is diarrhoea, every single morning, except once (might have been a banana I had the day before). Aren’t fried foods completely banned? I’m so scared of food eating is merely a way to survive. I’ve always been a comfort eater so this is really hard. My new obsession is mukbang videos on YouTube. I watch all these people stuff themselves and reminisce on the days I could eat without feeling sick. How miserable of me…
  12. Yes, I’ve been thinking about intolerance to lactose at some point when all I could drink was milk instead of water. But I haven’t had milk in 2 weeks and I’ve only had a tiny bit of light cheese and cottage cheese, so I don’t really know. It’s hard to figure out the foods you don’t tolerate anymore because everyone is SO different. Some people are ok with zucchini, others not, etc etc… it’s so hard to figure out. another thing I wanted to say was… I am constantly hungry. Like starving. But as soon as I put food in my mouth, I just don’t want to eat anymore. It’s almost like food has been such a trigger for pain and cramps that I’m just scared at how my body will react. 2 days ago I had the equivalent of 1 tsp of cooked corn and I spent half the night crying in pain and emptying my guts in the toilet. Not fun to experiment…
  13. All you can do is wait. A lot of people have superstitions about how to break a stall, but the truth is that it all comes down to waiting it out. If you continue burning more calories than you eat, your stall will break and your weight loss will resume. Superstitions are usually based on the logical fallacy of equating correlation to causation — I increased/decreased my carbs/fat/protein/exercise/water and my stall ended! So they assume that whatever they happened to change was the cause of breaking the stall, even though it would have happened whether or not they made the change. TL;DR - you’re doing great, so keep it up and you’ll be successful.
  14. lactose intolerance or intolerance to certain artificial sweeteners can cause that, but if it's happening in response to water, too, then that's not it. I hope they can figure it out for you - that would be awful!! also, various colors of poop aren't that unusual during the first month after surgery. Although I'd at least let my clinic know if another two or three weeks go by and it's still looking weird.

    How did you break a stall?

    yep - stick to your plan, stay off the scale, and wait it out. Stalls are a normal part of the weight loss process. I think of it was your body having to stop and recalibrate once in awhile. As long as you're sticking to your plan, the stall will break and you'll be on your way again.

    you just have to wait it out. some stalls are short and some are long. My longest was about 6 weeks. Keep the carbs low, eat well and you will get thru it.

    Before my surgery, I used Hello Fresh almost every week. I've tried a few of the others. Hello Fresh's meals are delicious but usually pretty high in calories. I chose mostly the ethnic meals so I don't know if they have things that are kid friendly. I also liked Marley Spoon, which seemed to have smaller portions and lower calories. I did try one of the low carb plans of one service but I can't recall which one. Maybe green chef, which has good meals, too. Dinnerly is probably the most kid friendly but the meals I got took a long time to prepare and they lean heavily on carbs like pasta, rice, and potatoes, as does Every Plate. Sunbasket was another I tried. It was good but not as good as others so I didn't continue. I have not tried Factor. Overall my favorites were Hello Fresh and Marley Spoon. My advice for way far in the future is to watch the calories and the portion sizes, which can be huge. I did love having the mental exercise of meal planning and shopping mostly taken away. I haven't tried to figure out if the boxes would work for me anymore. I am still eating very little and have some restrictions on vegetables. I think one Hello Fresh portion would be a week of dinners for me at my current point. lol Hope this has helped a little!

    New coworker

    So last week we hired a new person at my job. Today was my first day training them and we got to talking and sure enough. She had Gastric Sleeve surgery 6 years ago. I was like NOO WAY me too! but 11 months ago lol. She is i think in her late 40's. and she was i think 330lb and currently at 165lb 6 years later and doing great. Nice to meet someone like me lol. I am coming up on my 1 year surgery date next month.

    I have never used these as to me they seem expensive. I have also never been one to use take away foods, mostly because when I had a family they were expensive. Money has been very tight early in my married life. We have always cooked from scratch. So my take on these foods is somewhat biased. I found that if I could make one meal for myself every week, bag it into tiny portions and freeze them. At the end of a few weeks I had quite a stock of deliciousness. You will be surprised at how tiny your meals will be. I put them into little zip lock bags and freeze them flat. At the moment I am into poke bowls, I prep 3 or 4 at one go and keep them covered in the fridge. Less washing up, cheap and delicious
  20. Hi everyone. I need some advice or encouragement… because I still don’t really see the light at the end of the tunnel 😕 I had surgery 33 days ago. I already posted before about my journey 2 weeks post op and how I couldn’t eat nor drink properly for weeks. I can gladly say that drinking has improved immensely and somehow eating as well. However things have shifted dramatically and I don’t know if I’m the only one. The cramping and pain that used to be located around my old stomach in the early days has somehow moved to my bowels now. Let me explain. Up to week 3 post op, every time I tried to eat or drink something I would instantly feel it in the new pouch like a heaviness or discomfort. That would then change into non stop gurgling, sometimes foaming. This feeling of wanting to burp but nothing comes out until hours later. I’d of course lose my appetite once again and lay down for the pain to go away. Now, we’ll into 4 weeks post op, that type of discomfort has almost disappeared (it’s still there) but the cramps and instant bowel movements and heavy diarrhoea is a daily issue. One sip of water in the morning results in a bowel movement. And it’s an uncomfortable one! I am also so so gassy and I cannot hold it in at all! The other day I was with my brother in my car and it just came out without a warning. I had to open the window because the smell is out of this world… Have you guys encountered this as well? TMI my poop is completely gray. I already spoke to my doctor about it and she said it was nothing to worry about for now.
  21. Hey everyone! I was 5 months post op yesterday. I’ve been stalled for about three weeks now and it’s driving me crazy! I noticed I was slacking in protein and water. I’ve been meeting those goals consistently for the last two weeks. I eat around 1000 calories and exercise most days burning on average 400 calories. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  22. I couldn't drink those protein drinks for anything. To me they tase of metal and processed crap. Sorry. Not sorry. What did I do ? and what do I do now 12 years later ? I tried them pre surgery. Most of them made me horribly ill. I found out I cannot digest any of the sugar replacers or any of the milk replacers. It brings on colitis. Like weeks of the runs with terrible cramping. So.... I pre made myself super strong chicken broth; for post surgery I strained it through doubled cheese cloth. I kept and froze the chicken, and carrots separately. Later I made those into mashed carrots with some broth to thin it. And I basically food processed the chicken and had that as I was able to sip non clear liquids. I also made really strong vegetable broth - not soup, broth. With mushrooms and squash, and things like that. I froze my soups in tiny containers. And I made fish broth too. And beef broth. With the bones, and then super strained at first. I still make this and use it as the base for sauces, as I strain out any fats too. I eat simple proteins. I made and ate early on lots of chicken salad with some added broth, and humus instead of mayo. I still eat it that way. more protein and fiber. tuna mixed with greek yogurt. eggs mixed with yogurt for egg salad. Now, I make myself chicken thighs, and vegetables all the time. I like to use my crock pot to make boneless skinless thighs with carrots or chunks of sweet potato - and whatever vegetable I feel like adding. I am into gardening so I might add seasonal veggies like cabbage or beans or english peas, I use very little salt, lots of fresh herbs. I use the crock pot to make pot roast which comes out so tender and easy to eat, with tomatoes and serve it with cauliflower "rice" - I made all these things early on, and just mashed the heck out of things, adding homemade broth to smooth.

    BARELY any weight loss in first two weeks??

Sugar retains water as strongly as salt/sodium. And liquid sugar spikes insulin which puts energy/glycogen into your fat cells rather than letting your body burn it. High insulin is probably driving your hunger. I had to prioritize water over protein for a couple weeks. Slowly I was able to up my protein close to my goal of 80 g per day. When I forget to drink enough at first I would rapidly lose weight. (Water weighs about 8 lbs per gallon.) Then my weight loss would stall or even go up as I rehydrated.   24. There are other kinds of goals than just weight loss or smaller size. Certainly I wanted to be less heavy and be able to fit in a booth. But I also wanted to stop insulin, blood pressure meds, and be able to get up from the floor without help. I had the sleeve surgery 12/30/2022. Feels like a different lifetime before. I expected much more of a struggle, a continued war over control of my compulsive eating. I thought that would be my most likely post surgery downfall. Stopping that war became my goal. I made up my mind to befriend and protect my surgery and the signals that my smaller stomach is sending me like a precious possession. So far it's working. I am down 60 lbs since my sleeve surgery and still progressing. A little more than once in a while I am tempted and I will have something I shouldn't but I will either leave or limit myself to a taste. I noticed that if I leave I don't miss it. If I taste it it isn't as delicious or satisfying as I expected. I am respecting and protecting my stomach's ability to help me have a nicer life where I can play with my grandchildren and climb a flight of stairs and not have to plan how to get up before I sit on the floor with my grandkids. Last week I was at Costco and I really missed having a hotdog with mustard. I bought one and I ate until I felt full. I threw away 2/3 of the hotdog. I did the same thing with a slice of pizza the week before only took two bites and realized it wasn't tasting as good as I expected. I threw that away too. Something that helped me was that before the surgery I made up my mind that if I was miserable post surgery I have permission to stretch out my stomach and go back to my old ways of coping and keeping life worth living. So far I have been more at peace and happier on the trajectory I am on. I am down 60 lbs since my surgery and still progressing. Lately I am realizing that the enemy of my progress is my sense of failure when I have a bite of something unapproved. Permission to throw away the rest once I taste it or have hit "full" is freeing.   25. There's a chicken flavored protein that I mixed with hot bone broth. That wasn't terrible, lol. I was able to get to 3 weeks then I started small amounts of well chewed chicken or salmon. As for protein shakes I got to the point where I couldn't stand Premier or Orgain. But pre-made Orgain Clean still tastes good. The chicken protein powder is Bariatric Fusion Chicken Soup Meal Replacement 27g Protein Powder They also have a Strawberry Banana that is pretty good.
