February 2023 surgery dates!
DrinkMoreRadium replied to Erin18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oooh no I've never tried it that way! I'll have to remember that in the summer time. I know some people do better with avoiding the scale, but I do not 😩. I weigh myself at the same time everyday and every little 0.1lb movement is encouraging to keep going. My scale doesn't list ounces, but it does go to the 1/10th pound, so I do track it like that. I have a garmin scale so everytime I weigh it syncs to my app so I have all my activity tracking from my watch and my weight progress in the same spot. After a week of very little scale movement, it dropped 2 lbs this morning so I think I'm over the stall! I'm cleared for working out so I've just started back in the gym last week and I added some jogging in yesterday as well so I think that will help keep things moving more than just walking or biking. -
I also had this happen during the 3 week stall which is about which point you are at. I went up and down those same 3 pounds for 3 weeks and then the stall finally broke. It was depressing to be doing everything right and not see any results but its actually normal. So do your best not to stress too much and just stick to your plan and you'll see results again soon enough. Take care!

February 2023 surgery dates!

It really is weird. Like I love the ricotta cheese in our lasagna, I made the ricotta bake the same way, it's definitely not the same. Then I made buffalo dip and that's not the same either, it's good, but now the texture gags me lol. I can't stand gatorade zero anymore, well the one that I like, I'm gonna try orange. Going grocery shopping later and craving an orange flavor. The fruit punch is really strong, I have to do the same thing. I think im gonna try making a slushy with it later to see if I like it that way with a lot of ice. Have you tried it that way? I had no soreness or pain really. Glad you feel better! The stage I'm on is puree/soft foods. What exactly is considered soft foods? I'm really craving pickles and cucumbers. Next stage is soft solids. I figured out that pudding mixed in with cool whip doesn't sit good or Kodiak pancake in a cup lol I know it's too early for that. That's probably why, but im gonna still avoid it. Shrimp sounds really good too lol. I think im at the 3 week stall as well. Do you count the ounces too? Well the ounces keep moving but that is it. It's frustrating and it's hard to avoid the scale. Weight was dropping, now it stopped. But how? We're not eating much. -
Thank you so much! I do only weigh myself once a week, so this was a real shocker. And depressing.
-
unless you've eaten an extra 10,500 calories this week, that "gain" is either water or intestinal contents (i.e., "poop"), or a little of both. Daily fluctuations are normal, whether you're dieting or not. If it's playing with your mind too much, cut back your weighing to once a week - then you'll see overall trends rather than the daily fluctuations.

I could use some guidance. I know they say you shouldn’t weigh yourself often at home, but I weighed myself this morning for the first time in a week. I gained 3 pounds! I haven’t done anything different and I’m only a month postop, so I am only eating puréed and soft foods. Has this happened to anybody else? Any advice to get through this and not be totally depressed?

Post-Op Weight Loss stall - when will it end????
catwoman7 replied to Victoria_Faith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
they typically last 1-3 weeks. Mine lasted two weeks and then I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. Hang in there, stick to your plan, stay off the scale, and know that it WILL break and you'll be on your way again! -
Post-Op Weight Loss stall - when will it end????

I stalled week 2 and then stalled frequently the entire way (I honestly lost count of how many stalls I had). It's frustrating, but all you can do is stick to the plan, be patient, distract yourself and stay off the scale. It will break when your body is ready, and sometimes that's a week, sometimes it's many weeks. I know it sucks when it's happening, but it's a normal part of the process. -

I am on week 5. The stall lasted me week 4, and then I lost a couple pounds without really doing anything this week. As for constipation, the struggle is real. I took some laxative last night. Wish me luck! -

Post-Op Weight Loss stall - when will it end????
Victoria_Faith posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone talks about the post-op weight loss stall - when does it pick up again? I'm trying not to compare myself to other people's successes, but honestly am frustrated. I am 3 weeks post-op and still on the pureed foods program. I'm only getting about 4-600 calories a day and reach for about 80g of protein and make it there most days thanks to my shakes. The scale hasn't moved in a week - I guess I should be asking my surgical team, but when can I expect that to change? I know I don't walk like I should, I suppose I should do more than 30 minutes a day. My doctor also told me to take a laxative every 3-4 days due to the dietary restrictions causing constipation. Any encouragement would be appreciated. -
I am 3 weeks post op today from the gastric sleeve. I feel great, I have energy during the day, no pain and I am down 20lbs. So far it has been all liquid diet and pureed soup. Today is the first day I actually feel hungry and want food. I had a half of can of chopped tuna but I am still hungry. What were you all eating/drinking at 3 weeks post op?
-
Thanks. 3 weeks tomorrow. Definitely has gotten better, but still getting them. Trying to get more walking in, but the weather has not been cooperating! So much rain!

Mine lasted for about 3 weeks - hopefully yours are almost gone!

It's crazy how much tastes change! I used to love pickles and now I can't stand them. The first week or so postop I couldn't do cold water and didn't really want room temp water so I drank a lot of gatorade zero. I tried the gatorade zero protein, but could not deal with the after taste. Last week though everything started to taste really sweet so I went back to water and have no issues now with cold water. When I feel like I want something other than water, I just grab a crystal light packet and add it in. Fruit punch is my favorite flavor, but I have to double the water I mix it with because it's pretty strong. Monday was 4 weeks postop for me and it's amazing how much difference 10 days can make! Physically, I feel totally fine - no remaining soreness or pain. My doctor cleared me for soft foods including "chewing non-soft foods to an applesauce consistency" so I haven't stuck to any specific foods but still trying to figure out what works for me which is mostly chicken and shrimp. I finally hit the (delayed) 3 week stall and haven't seen the scale move at all this week, but I'm keeping my motivation up with exercise and hope to see that big dip soon. -

I started my pre-op diet today (just a week of it, and using JourneyLite's prepackaged meals). So far just head/emotional hunger. But I also stopped drinking any caffeine today, too, so all of those withdrawal symptoms 😕 -

Gallbladder: Should it stay or should it go?
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to BypassTheBS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP put me on a 6 month prophylactic course of ursodiol. I started it 2 weeks before surgery. I'm 18 months out and at goal, and have never had an gallbladder issues. It is not uncommon after WLS, but also not a sure thing. I'm not sure what the value in a proactive removal would be. Definitely talk through options with your PCP/surgeon! -

I can't believe that I'm already 3 weeks out now. I had some meatloaf last night, I know it's not puree, but it was definitely soft. It was the best thing ever! Lol I can't get over how amazing it was. I was so happy and satisfied since I haven't been wanting food. Things haven't tasted good. But that, omg! Lol plus, has anyone just stick to water? Because I feel like the drink mixes are too sweet and hurt my throat haha. It doesn't satisfy my tastebuds. So water it is. Not a bad thing, but I do want something different too.. -

Hi all! I am 5 weeks out of bypass surgery and will turn 61 tomorrow. The healing process has been easier than I expected. I initially went in to get help with my hiatal hernia and severe acid reflux. Long story short, my surgeon told me that bypass would be the best answer for me. I was recently diagnosed as a diabetic and have high BP. Both of those are so much better that I am off my diabetes meds already and hoping my BP meds will be reduced soon. I go for a follow up with my dr. next week. I am hoping to get cleared to do more exercising than just walking. My sister-in-law wants me to join her doing some high intensity workouts with an online program she belongs to. She is very fit already (she is a kick ass police officer) so I have some catching up to do! I want to strengthen my arms, legs and abs to get ready for golf season. I am an avid golfer, not the best in our league but I only started a few years ago. Very competitive chick here! When I went for a group meeting (others going through the same surgery) with the nutritionist a couple weeks before surgery, I was by far the oldest one in the room which I was just fine with. Just wondering if there are any more of you out there in my age group that are also on this journey. -
Nope I didn’t & don’t. I prefer to know exactly what I’m eating from ingredients to cooking style. I portion out & freeze a lot of what I cook so I have a wide variety of meals a simple defrost & reheat away. All I have to prep & cook are vegetables & I can do that in a couple of minutes. I happily eat the same meal I’ve cooked for a couple of days & only cook from scratch every three or four days. At the moment I have multiple portions of beef & barley and chicken & lentil soups, zucchini noodle bolognese, pork schnitzel, lamb cutlets, steak, roast chicken, savoury egg muffins, etc. I’m adding two portions of lamb back strap tonight. My freezer is literally full of meals. But you have to do what works best with your family. Just check the nutrition information very carefully.

Meal delivery service?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Jillian K8's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Of course!! Any time. And since I work full time, I'm in school, I sell Arbonne, I work out 5 days per week, and I'm dealing with some crazy health issues, having Factor 75 meals that I can just pop in the microwave anytime is a huge help. They come already cooked. Nothing to prep and cook. Just heat in the microwave and call it good. LOVE it. If you only want dinners, I'd go with the 3 meal box because you'll get 6 meals out of it. If you want breakfast and dinner, go for the 6 meal box and choose 3 of each. You'll get 6 breakfasts and 6 dinners out of it. -
The three day pre diet wasn’t as bad as I thought. Mine is tomorrow. I’m tempted to chicken out too.
