    Protein Shots

you might end up losing more. It's supposedly due to the anesthesia plus the trauma of surgery on the body (and it supposedly can be a side effect of ANY surgery, but I'm guessing it's more commonly seen after bariatric surgery because we're taking in so few calories those first few months). I don't know think anything is too effective at stopping it - although getting your protein in and keeping on top of your vitamins will probably keep it from getting any worse. Luckily, I didn't lose much - or not enough to be noticed by others. Anyway, I never used the shots - so hopefully someone will chime in about those.
  2. @Xx1jpt5xx alluded to this, but I want to emphasize it. I think it might help you understand your husband if you think about his weight and eating as an addiction, not a failing of willpower. There are studies that show that foods, especially highly palatable ones, trigger the same brain chemicals as illicit drugs. Food scientists know this and engineer food to be more palatable because it keeps you coming back for more. Unlike other addictions (alcohol, drugs, gambling...), you have to have food to survive so abstinence isn't an option. I think compassion and empathy will get you a lot farther with him than trying to convince and coerce. Most of us fighting against obesity already have a ton of shame and feel like failures that we can't just fix it. It sounds like he is aware there is an issue and wants to do something different. That is a positive in this. I am also glad he has a partner like you that clearly loves him and wants the best for him. Maybe look into tips for supporting people with addictions and try to translate those to this situation. It might also help if you and your husband attended an information seminar at a local bariatric center so you have more information on the process and procedures.

    Surgeon says NO gummies

I think it's because normally, those tend to have sugar in them compared to the bariatric vitamins, which are chewable, pills, or liquid. Which is a bummer because I miss gummy melatonin lol
  4. Only liquid, chewable or crushed multivitamins first 3 months. Bariatric Center's Suggested Vitamins BARIATRIC ADVANTAGE: Advanced EA Multi BARIATRIC FUSION: Complete chewable MVI, Iron & Calcium CELEBRATE: Multi Complete 45 CENTRUM WOMAN'S (twice a day) GNC: Woman's Ultra Mega (twice a day) Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. LOL... my bariatric vitamin is way bigger than an M&M! Of course, no way I could have taken it before 4 months post op... but have no trouble with it now (almost 6 months). I take it with 3 very small medications. Immediately post op I could only swallow pills the size of maybe half an M&M.

    Gastric sleeve for BMI 30

Studies are now showing it’s more beneficial to have bariatric surgery at a lower BMI. A BMI of 30 and above is considered obesity and yet for those that need help with insurance coverage it won’t kick in unless it’s 35 with very specific comorbidities or BMI of 40 + I wished I’d been able to tackle my weight earlier on. Doctors were of no help no matter how much I begged for help. Of course I wish it had been an option many years ago. If you can’t do it with diet alone, and as long as you understand that this is a tool to permanently change your way of eating and create healthier habits for your life - then I say go for it. It’s better than struggling to go it alone. I know for me, I could not have gotten this far without it.
  7. Great info! I have an a lot of people that felt that their taste changed after bariatric surgery. I know one who really could not stand the taste of water enhancers afterwards. Of course people have such a variety of preferences, but it is nice to get some consensus (saves time and money!).

    Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D

if you're OK taking tablets, there's always generic brands of calcium citrate. Walgreens and CVS both have them - other places probably do as well. I do the Bariatric Advantage chews occasionally - but I also take tablets. I get the mini-tabs at CVS since the big ones are....big. another option is Upcal-D. It's a powder that I occasionally mix with yogurt (supposedly you can mix it with beverages, too, but it doesn't dissolve that well, so I quit doing it that way)

    can someone just tell me

Sorry I really thought you meant Coca Cola, If you are thinking real Coke, that long term bariatric surgery wont work. Drugs and maintaining health rarely work. Good Luck.
  10. I did a lot of searching to find a calcium citrate supplement and couldn't find one at a better price than Bariatric Advantage. If you order it on a auto delivery plan it's a bit less. There are a lot of supplements out there that are cheaper, but they are usually calcium carbonate which is not absorbed as well as the citrate.
  11. Suggestions on the calcium brand? The bariatric advantage brand is TOO HIGH
  12. at a BMI of 46, you are definitely "fat enough" (your words - not mine!) for it (if it makes you feel any better, my starting BMI was 60). I think a lot of people get their perceptions of bariatric surgery from shows like "My 600 lb Life". I've been working with pre-op groups for the last three years, and I've never seen ANYONE the size of the people on that show. In fact, I would guess most are in the mid-200s, with a handful of 300+ people thrown in for good measure. (I was one of the latter. I thought I'd be one of the smallest people in the room. Nope! I was the biggest!) chasing that "full feeling" is psychological, not physical, so it won't be "fixed" by surgery. A lot of us can probably relate to that - but you're still going to have to deal with it. I have to fight that all the time and constantly ask myself if I'm truly hungry, or if it's just thinking I have to feel "full" again. That said, most of us do lose our hunger for a few months after surgery. For the first time in my life, I didn't give a flying flip about food. Wow - does that ever make it easier to stick to your plan and lose weight! But unfortunately, that doesn't last forever. Hunger usually returns within a few months - or up to a year (mine came back at five months). Then the real challenge begins... as for losing weight - yes, you will lose it if you stick to your clinic's plan. And no, you won't gain it all back as long as you stick to your clinic's plan. It's pretty common for people to gain 10-20 lbs after hitting bottom, but as long as you stay on your plan, you should be able to maintain at that level. It's a battle, but it's not impossible. Lots of us have done it.. I think you'll be glad you had this done. Most of us have no regrets at all and would do it again in a heartbeat.
  13. Starting weight: 266lbs / 19st / 120kg Current weight: 156lbs / 11st 2lbs / 70kg Goal weight: 140lbs / 9st / 63.5kg Surgery date: 9th June 2019 Surgery: Gastric Bypass What do I eat in a day? Example: Breakfast - protein yoghurt (17g protein) Snack - protein bar (10g protein) Lunch: 20g protein from lean meat & veg Snack: cheese (10g protein) Dinner: 20g protein from lean meat with veg & carbs (I portion everything out on a bariatric plate) Sometimes I will snack at night time on cheese / another low carb - high protein snack) I usually end up on around 75g protein per day. My goal is 60g. I post recipes / meal inspiration on Instagram a lot. @charlieannnn Www.instagram.com/charlieannnn
  14. @themonk4u all I can say is I feel what you are saying and my heart grieves for the way to feel about yourself,,, you are such a beautiful person I can tell. And this surgery will make the outside match your inside if you don't feel that way now. You have no choice BUT to lose after the surgery . the challenge will be to follow the instructions to the letter, renew your mind with new ideas about food and getting "full" etc.. you gonna do great

    Where did you have surgery?

I had mine in Las Vegas (sleeve) at Blossom Bariatric. Excellent experience; I qualified for their fast track program - from arrival through surgery in 5 days. Advertised cost $6799, mine was a little less than that because of a promotion they were running. Includes hotel, transportation once you get there, surgery, etc. Really good experience. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. My program only requires "soft foods" two days before, and clear liquids the day before, but I have been doing 2 protein shakes a day and one meal on my own. I have my pre-op appointment on Monday! It's crazy how fast it is all going now. I have figured out my vitamin regimen (2 Bariatric Advantage Chewable Advanved Multi EA and 3 Bariatric Adv Calcium Chews), and finally found a plant based protein I don't hate (purely inspired Organic Protein). I am intolerant to whey, so the majority of the regular ones are out for me. And there are soooooo many disgusting plant based ones. I have also checked in with all of my favorite coaches with at my gym to make sure they are cool with me not following the daily format so I am good to go there too! I don't want to lose my gym habits. It's too easy to fall back into not going, lol. I am an OrangeTheory addict.

    Mrs April Robertson

Yes been in hospital every weekend for UTI infection keeps coming back had u one test on Friday and showed clear. I’ve been eating to much at certain points do u think it could be dumping syndrome? But last faint on Friday there had been a two hour gap. I had the opp in turkey so I’m not in touch with the Bariatric team here but have been in and out and had every test. There was a problem after my surgery three days in and I couldn’t keep even a single drop of water down. The done an endoscopy and found I had oedema in my stomach. They drained it but said if it didn’t settle I would need the mini bye pass. Thank god it settled but can’t help feel it’s something to do with that. I do suffer a bit with low blood pressure so could be that. I do fed up I can’t face going to hospital again. thank you for your reply April

Dr. Lytle is an AMAZING Dr!! You will love him and his staff at Bariatric Innovations of Atlanta! He is kind, compassionate and very honest about everything from beginning to end! He is quick with responding to any questions you have at any time. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. They truly saved my life emotionally. I have had no problems at all getting in contact with the nutritionist, or Dr. Lytle for any follow-up care needed over the phone. They will work with your local doctors as well, being that you are out of state. I have NO complications from surgery, he is very careful and thorough. I am 6 months out. FluffyChix, you are awesome! What great ideas!!! I've asked my Bariatric team on several occasions for ideas to make it less tedious and they came up empty handed. I particularly love the Asian soup idea and am going to try it tonight Thanks!!!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I have had problems with my groin right side. I was sleeping with a heating pad but when I went for my chiro 1 month follow up, it went away. I do lift weight , walk and jog so I may have thrown myself off. Also my bariatric dr wants me to weigh 155 which has me just missing a normal BMI. They said they e concerned with maintaining my weight loss vs a certain BMI I really want to push for 145 -148. I knots BMI is just a number but I have not had a normal BMI for 20 plus years! In the end, I just need to maintain so I am going through this mental struggle. I figure first I will get to 155 and then just see how I feel. Also still intimidated by maintenance mode

    Putting on muscle

It takes time, but if you work at it, you will get there! I am only trying to tone. Slow going but seeing progress. It is good that you are starting with a personal trainer. They will help you a lot. Just consult your nutritionist about the food for building muscle. I don't think a lot of personal trainers have experience counseling bariatric patients on nutrition. I could be wrong... but I can't imagine they have many bariatric surgery customers.
  23. Sorry you're struggling. I'm a bypass so can't speak to the band part. But the only thing I do know is the doc is the only one who can answer if your tool is intact. He would have to do imaging and tests to know for sure. But the thing that jumps out at me is that you are trying to use this tool for weight loss, but you are eating bread and pasta? During weight loss mode (WLM), I was very strict with protein first and veggies and hardly no fruit. And only a tiny bit of healthy fats. Did you receive any nutrition counseling? I'd ask for a referral to a nutritionist and also a bariatric counselor as well. It's important to work on the head as much as on the diet and exercise.
  24. Hi everyone I wonder if I can ask your opinions about something? I had a lap band fitted a few months ago. I carefully considered all the options, and decided I didn’t want surgery to remove part of my stomach, and would go with the band. I’ve had around four fills, and am now up to 5.5 mls. But while I am definitely able to swallow only much smaller mouthfuls of food than I did before (especially things like meat), I find that the actual amount of food my stomach can hold is not much different than before I was banded. Is this normal…? When I originally had the operation the bariatric nurse told me that I would only be able to eat around a side plate’s worth of food at any one time. But I can definitely fit much more in my stomach than that (once it has made its way down through the much narrower opening at the top). And I don’t mean just things like semi-solids, but foods like bread and pasta too. What gives? I haven’t really lost any weight at all. I thought I was supposed to feel full up after only a few mouthfuls? Should I get my band tightened? But if I do that, I’ll then have major trouble eating solid food like meat etc. I’m just getting more and more disillusioned by the whole thing. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks Catherine

    OOTD

Jake I love the socks. Also looking great. November11, ohlala. I love the color of the boots and the jacket. Looking fabulous on a chilly day. Isn’t it great losing shoe sizes as well? So unrelated to me it’s decades day at my daughters school. She chose the 90’s. I told her what I used to wear, and this is what she came up with. Me I’m just in my normal. The 3rd cardigan I ordered from amazon. I need more colors now. 😉 Oh darn I should order all the cardigans and dresses in my cart, since I’m almost out of my bariatric multivitamins I “need” to order those. I’ll just tell my husband oops I didn’t realize all the clothes were in my cart to. Ps do you see the photo bombs in both pictures. Have a great day to all you awesome, amazing, supportive, inspiring BP friends.
