    February bypass buddies?

Milk of Magnesia works miracles just make sure you drink some water afterwards get it going.... I will say that decaf has been helping me get going to with protein premier milk mixed in. I do Miralax everyday 4oz water with the recommended dosage then if I do not go by day 3 I use MOM. It gets uncomfortable for sure. I take MOM at night and usually wake up and have to go sometime in the morning. If you do not want to use MOM, try some Greek yogurt (helped me too). I was RNYed 2/7 so I feel you.

    Any February Sleevers?

I left the hospital on 2/15 weighing 233 (which was just a little higher that right before surgery) but I am now at 217. I’ve weighed 217 for the past 2 days and kinda started freaking out but I should not get on the scale everyday, but it’s extremely hard not to. I had my post op visit yesterday and he want me to lose 25 pounds by the next time I see him which is next month 😳! Obviously that would be amazing but I’m just hoping I can do it. I went back to the gym today and did the elliptical for about 30 minutes and I just felt really out of shape and weak. As far as eating goes I’m mostly just doing creamed soups, yogurt and maybe a little cream of wheat and my protein shakes. Getting about 400-550 calories/day.Drinking water more normally now—no more little baby sips, which makes getting it all down easier. Never really hungry so that’s a plus. How are you doing?
  3. I like EAS Advant Edge vanilla protein powder. It can be mixed with frozen berries, peanut butter powder, yogurt, etc for additional flavors. I haven’t tried it in this brand of powder protein but, in the past, a I would add some sugar-free Jello gelatin powder for different flavors. I liked cherry the best.

    Any March 2018 Sleevers?

Floridagal1976 that's AWESOME!! I'm day 4. Yesterday was weird. At "lunch," my shake made me a little sick to my stomach. I'm feel like I was just hangry the first two days, now my tummy just feels blah. I'm having a protein shake 3 times a day and 2 yogurts. Any suggestions on substitution? Pureed food suggestions?

Cottage cheese, refried beans with melted cheese on top, mashed sweet potatoes, mashed (pureed) carrots, yogurt (watch sugar and carb content). I was allowed to have pureed tuna or chicken, I mixed it with a little mayo, or you can mix it with plain greek yogurt and season it up. Hummus is good, especially if you make it homemade. @orionburn great suggestion of the ricotta bake and eggface's site. I did the ricotta bake too, and yes, it was delicious! Also, during the pureed stage, I mixed in a little Isopure or Unjury brands of unflavored protein powder to get my protein. You can mix it into refried beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.

    Help me please :( GERD

I am 15 months post sleeve. I have been having trouble with eating anything besides some soups, yogurt, protein shakes, things like that. Dealing with nausea off and on during day, some vomiting. I have actually had nausea since the surgery. Had an endoscopy when I was in the hospital a few weeks ago, they found erosions. I have been taking Protonix since surgery. Watch yourself with the vomiting, be sure to amp up your fluid intake. Dehydration led to my hospitilization. You don't want that. Powerade Zero is good....that and plenty of water! I have a follow up in March, might have to get in sooner... worried that a revision to bypass might be in my future. Be sure and let your doc know everything that is going on and the severity of your situation. I hope you find an answer and that you feel better soon.
  7. I’m 4 weeks post surgery and I’m still not up to 2 oz per meal. If I eat over 1 oz (of solid food) it hurts. I feel like I have to throw up and my mid section hurts. Sitting, standing it’s just uncomfortable. Eating yogurt and other super soft foods is ok but if I attempt anything remotely solid it feels like it gets stuck. I have a doc appointment in two weeks but didn’t know if I should get in sooner? Anyone else experience this?
  8. Hi everyone! (Month before shakes 354, pre surgery 309, current weight is 254) So last few days I’ve been doing 400-800 calories, 60+ protein and 40 or less carbs and my full 8 glasses of water a day, I’ve lost 10 pounds in 5 days, which is awesome because I’ve been stalled for a bit, I was 309 prior to surgery and now I’m 354, I wanna get down to 199. I’m 8 months out of surgery, is it possible to lose it by June? I just feel like it’s not gonna come off how it should now because I’ve stalled and haven’t lost as much as I should. I’m just scared and worried it won’t be off before summer because that’s my goal. I’m doing chicken, fish, meat for protein, veggies (made cabbage soup too), cheese, and yogurt (no sugar and I add stevia) i just still feel discouraged. I’m 24 if that also helps. Will the weight still come off quick even though I’m 8 months out?

    Nausea question, please help [emoji30]

Antibiotics are really bad to wipe out your gut microbiota, so there could be some merit to their playing a role. Try eating yogurt, probiotics, etc. You really should contact your doctor and discuss this ASAP.

    Does your stomach feel normal?

No feeling in my actual stomach other than my volume is way down. First couple days after getting out of hospital it gurgled but that has stopped. My program recommends 1/4 cup servings to start. Still on that except for yogurt, where I can eat more. My incisions, at 4 weeks out, are itching like crazy. yesterday no. Today OMG. I found a dose of children's benadryl helps me to sleep without waking up itching.

    Hungry

Are you supposed to be on liquids for another week? Week 2 I could do yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans, very thin soup, jello, sf pudding, sf popsicles.

    Hunger managment

I agree with @alexmcintyre. Eating small, frequent, protein-packed meals is excellent. Protein helps fill you. Also, limit your carbs throughout the day. Some carbs tend to not satisfy your hunger and some carbs can also lead to wanting more carbs. If you have break-through hunger in-between your meals, then it is good to keep healthy snacks on hand: proteins such as cheese, some yogurts, etc... or even might want to keep some fresh cut veggies on hand, such as red peppers, cucumbers, carrots, snap peas. Yum! As for the eating, and then the food coming back up, that could be acid reflux. I am dealing with it right now at 15 months out. If it continues to bother you, do mention it to your doctor.

    Flavorless Protein?

I use Isopure unflavored protein powder. Love it. You can mix it in many things: yogurt, cottage cheese, soup, powerade zero, decaf iced or hot tea, decaf or reg coffee, refried beans, mashed sweet potatoes, oatmeal Congrats on the weight loss.

How to get my energy back?

Protein, vitamins, fluids and if you want to add some carbs do so in the form of more complex ones like thinned cream of wheat/oatmeal or no sugar added dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese and even milk have plenty of naturally occurring lactose which is sugar). The refined sugars or even the fructose in fruit juices might not be the best idea this early out:

The best on-plan thing I have eaten lately is...

Most on plan I am is when I have mid day protein powder mixed into plain full fat Greek yogurt. (I add a bit of coconut water to have it mixable since it gets too thick). Then I see at the end of the day that I had enough protein. It always helps. Even if my breakfast and dinner are good, it all works better when I make sure to have this tasteless protein “snack.”
  16. I'm struggling with the same thing right now. I have trouble until evening. I can get stuff down in the morning but it hard to get yogurt or even a protein shake down. It actually hurts and feels like it just sits in my chest. I as well don't think I am too tight because I can eat a large portion in the evening. I just had a feel last week so I'm trying to tough it out and see how it goes.

    Day 6 post op mood

I definitely know what you mean! I’m 5 days out from my sleeve and it’s so weird not being hungry. Of course I would love to chow down on a ribeye and loaded potato but obviously that’s mental hunger. It is kind of weirding me out. Today was my first day back to work and all I’ve had is a protein shake, a half a portion of broccoli cream soup, a popsicle, and a half a single container of yogurt. And I’ve still got to get 10 more grams of protein and almost 15 ounces of fluid before I go to sleep. It’s a weird feeling to physically not be able to eat anymore when we are so used to eating way too much with ease. Good luck and let me know if you come up with any tricks! Haha

    January 2018 Sleevers HERE

Hang in there! My surgeon reminded me at my 3 week postop appointment that it won't always be a straight bee-line down on the scale. Told me it was fine to weigh myself as long as it's not anxiety inducing. Are there other things you can eat, other than what the surgeon provided? Dannon light and fit yogurt has been one of my go-tos. And I mixed some low-fat ricotta with splenda (or stevia), vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg -- that's gone down quite well. I remember one of my leaders from weight watchers reminding those who weren't eating all their points and not losing - you do have to eat to lose weight. Your body will tell you. Good luck!

    Vegan protein?

I'm sorry you're dealing with the nut allergy! That's sooo frustrating. Definitely glad to hear that your NUT is open to a plant-based diet! For whole food concentrated protein, like you said, beans are definitely the way to go. You can eat hummus or refried beans as well, they are a bit smoother/less filling so you might be able to eat more that way. Another good option is soy, particular soy milk. Make a smoothie with soy milk or add it to your oatmeal and that's 8-12g of protein just from the milk depending on how much you use. (Most other plant milks are low in protein.) In terms of non-concentrated protein, you can get it from literally any whole food. Whole grain pasta has a pretty good amount, about 4 grams in half a serving (1 oz dry). Most plant foods will have 1-3g in a serving and throughout the day that adds up. For plant-based protein that's more processed, like a supplemental protein (which you will definitely need this early post-op) there are some really tasty protein bars I've found called Nugo which are vegan and made from soy protein. I believe many of the flavors do not contain nuts, but you'd have to check to be sure. You can buy them on Amazon or in the protein bar aisle at Whole Foods. (And maybe other places!) You can also look for protein powders made from pea protein, brown rice protein, etc. as well. Orgain is one common brand. I just found some ready-made vegan shakes (like premier protein) at Target that I believe are Evolve brand, but I haven't tried them yet. Hopefully they taste all right! Probiotics... well that's a whole other discussion LOL (basically if you're not eating animal products you likely don't have a big need for probiotics as the plants help your gut bacteria stay happy on their own) but to answer your direct question, there are some fermented plant options! Sauerkraut if you like it, and kombucha tea are two good places to start. You can also make yogurt and kefir from soy milk, although I haven't done it myself (yet!) so I can't give you specific guidance. Good luck!!
  22. Chobani hint of yogurts! I am in love! The only flavor I dont like is blueberry SW 350 (11/15) BSW 260 (10/17/17) CW 213.6 (2/16/18) RGW 199 GW 175

    February bypass buddies?

If you are five days post op you probably should not be eating or drinking bananas and yogurt if you are sleeved.

    February bypass buddies?

Jennifer.... it will get better my first couple of days I regretted everything, but then looked in the future. I am post op 15 days and I have good and bad days. The pain is liking gas pain. Gas X chewables are wonderful to have and help so much. Also, burping hurts so bad feels like a heart attack. Congrats on surgery and I am sorry everything hurts just keep trying.... I promise it will get better. Focus on liquid intake because dehydration is the worst and very painful. Protein is going to come from your liquid intake at this point. Are you a coffee drinker? If so, decaf mixed with caramel protein premier is delightful and 30g of protein per premade drink. Or what kind of drinks do you like? Protein premier makes a clear water that tastes really good... it is too sweet for me so I split it in half and add half water and it helps get in 10g to 20g of protein. Do you like yogurt? Dannon light smoothies are delicious with 9g of protein. Are you a milk drinker? Fairlife is great with 13g of protein per serving. Get creative and don’t be afraid to try stuff. You will either like it or not. You could make your own protein popsicles as well. I had to get really creative and still am. I am doing my purée phase and Power Pudding is my life saver for days I just can’t eat anything. Let me know if I can help you with anything.
  25. Hello Mel 👋🏻👋🏻. It’s so wonderful to hear from you. I am down now 9 pounds. I’m trying not to be discouraged by the number on the scale. You were absolutely right that the greatest advantage of having this procedure is the amazing energy I have now. I can complete what I need to for the day(chores, housecleaning, etc.), get in a workout at the gym, make a nice dinner for my family and not feel overwhelmed or stressed out. I love this feeling! Tex, you were right about the cravings, I am floored by the fact that a few nights ago we ordered pizza for the kids and I did not even feel the urge to have a slice. Yes I know I am only 12 days postop so pizza is a definite no-no but I just didn’t want any. 😱😱😱 You remember how concerned I was about this preop? I drink my protein shakes, my bone broth, my Greek yogurt and I’m full and happy as can be. If you guys remember an esg poster a while back named Alcerik. I believe he posted in detail about his experience with this procedure, he was very successful and advised the rest of us to stay on the full liquid phase as long as you can which I plan to do. As long as I’m not struggling I am going to stick with this stage. I have energy and I’m not cranky or irritable or hungry yet. I know this won’t last forever but I’m riding it out as long as I can. I’ve read about others losing more but you know what I’m happy with my slow and steady progress. I’m in no rush and the energy and confidence this has given me has just been priceless guys. Once again thanks for allowing me to share and for all of your love and support. One more thing for the post ESGers, can you tell me what else you can recommend for me in the full liquid stage? I want to be proactive in case I get bored of — protein shakes, bone broth, Greek yogurt, and sugar free jello and pudding. Thank you all!!!!
