Plain protein powder
nikkimapr replied to nikkimapr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for feedback! I ordered the Genepro protein powder today after your suggestions and looking at difference -
Which do you prefer post-surgery? I'm still pre surgery going in on May 10. I've been test driving some different Protein powders and while I don't want to overly stock up in case my tastes change I know I need to have something on hand. I tried unjury today in some chicken broth and found it to be totally fine. It made the broth a little creamy tasting which took some getting used to but I definitely didn't find it to be offensive. However, there was a lot of powder to stir into my two cups of broth (I was using a pre measured packet). The GENEPRO is appealing because of the smaller quantity and the high amount of protein. If you've tried both can you tell me how they compare in terms of taste? I have a small supply of flavored Protein drinks that I've sampled and liked. I'm looking for suggestions on unflavored to mix with broth or juice. Thanks.

Has anyone tried the new Genepro, 3rd generation, sold in the orange canister? I was disappointed the old one (sold in white bags) is gone, as it was the only unflavored protein powder I couldn’t taste nor smell. Others make me nauseous. I read bad reviews of the new formula on Amazon so wanted to see if anyone here has experience with it. Thanks! Edit: upon reading the fine print, the new version has a larger scoop and only a third of the protein of the old version. Not just bad volume wise, but also nutritionally and pricewise. Looks like I will need to find the old version or use a different brand from now on.

I put my genepro in all my soups and I do 3 premier protein shakes( breakfast lunch and dinner) until I move to puréed and soft phase. I know how important the protein is so I make sure when I make jello- genepro is in it. Pudding, genepro. Lol

GENEPRO GEN 2 PROTEIN COUNT EXPLAINED ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Soon2bFit21 replied to getoverit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Nice spam post and complete and utter garbage. This is why Genepro has been sued over this bogus claim. The only reason this was thrown out of court is the shady way this business is run and the wrong “owner” was named. -
GENEPRO GEN 2 PROTEIN COUNT EXPLAINED ONCE AND FOR ALL!
getoverit replied to getoverit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Not a shill at all and thats a promise on all 5 of my grandchildren! I just got tired of hearing all the misinfo being spread around and look at what your respected member "TOMO" replied in this posting and TOMO has been around here and is in no way a "shill". TOMO said replied: "Genepro is endorsed and recommended by many medical facilities, including UCLA School of Medicine to all their bariatric patients. The science is sound but people believe whatever they want to believe. http://surgery.ucla.edu/workfiles/bariatrics/healthy-eating/UCLA-Post-Op-Diet-Updated-2021.pdf" -
GENEPRO GEN 2 PROTEIN COUNT EXPLAINED ONCE AND FOR ALL!
getoverit posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
So ive read over and over and over how Genepro protein powder is lieing about having 30 grams of protein per serving and how it cant have 30 grams of protein in it if it only has 58 calories in it cuz protein has 4 calories per gram and on and on and on and yadda yadda yadda! UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU READ!!!!!! They are saying that their serving size gives you THE EQUIVALENT AMOUNT OF PROTEIN THAT WILL BE ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY AS IN A 30 GRAM SCOOP OF WHEY PROTEIN!!!!!!!!!! 1 tblspn of Genepro 2 will give you the same protein blood level (actual absorbed protein into your body/blood) count as a 30 gram scoop of whey protein because whey protein has a very low rate of absorption by the human body!!!!!! I agree the label can be a bit tough to understand unless you read what it says EXACTLY! You will see the 30 gram statement followed by ** and when you go down to what ** means/relates too, its the clinical study that showed just what ive stated above...that 1 tablespoon of Genepro 2 will give your body the same amount of ABSORBED PROTEIN AS 30 GRAMS OF WHEY PROTEIN! Whey protein has a very low rate of absorption...approx 30-45% MAX absorption rate with most being around the 30-35% which means a scoop of whey protein that contains 30 grams of protein gives you about 10-12 grams of protein that is actually absorbed by the body. 1 tablespoon of GENEPRO 2 gives you approx 10-12 grams of protein absorbed by the body! Clinical study proved that 1 Tablespoon of GENEPRO 2 would give you the same amount of ABSORBED PROTEIN as a scoop of whey protein containing 30 grams of protein! GOT IT???? LOL! Thats laymens terms of course but i think thats what is need here and it needed to be repeated a few times for normal folks to grasp! LOL! AGAIN...BOTTOM LINE LAYMENS TERMS...1 TABLESPOON OF GENEPRO2 GIVES YOU THE SAME AMOUNT OF PROTEIN ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY AS A SCOOP OF WHEY PROTEIN CONTAINING 30 GRAMS OF PROTEIN. Genepro2 has a very high absorption rate...so consider a scoop of Genepro2 will get you approx 10-15 grams of protein absorbed by your body! ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY IS THE IMPORTANT FACT/NUMBER ETC AS WHATS NOT ABSORBED DOESNT DO YOU ANY GOOD! Some vitamins are the same way, examples being D, magnesium and others...to get 50 mgs ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY YOU HAVE TO TAKE 5 TIMES MORE/250 MGS SINCE ABSORPTION RATE IS SO POOR. I hope this helps and remember that 1 serving of the GENEPRO2 will get you about 10-15 grams of protein absorbed by the body. If you need to get an extra 75 grams of protein above what you will eat in your food then you will need to take 5-7 scoops/serving sizes. FOR BEST RESULTS AS FAR AS TASTE OR CHEMICAL SMELL GOES...DO NOT HEAT UP PROTEIN AT ALL! MIX IT COLD WITH SOMETHING AND POUND IT DOWN QUICKLY! I have always lifted weights and worked out seriously and have learned over the years how much my body can absorb of any given protein product. Your body will only absorb its max amount of protein and then it will come out your rear end! We have always tought other people that were lifting weights and taking supplements to gain lean muscle mass to find that max point with which ever protein product you are using and then back down from there. Work your way up to max rate when your body will get rid of excess and then slowly back down servings until you hit that happy point. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL! -
Suggested Protein Powders Please

I use Genepro and its tasteless... I put it in water with crystal light... it’s very good that way and I get the best of both worlds -
I am in no way a vendor or affiliated with the GENEPRO company. I do agree with you about all the reviews not only for this product but others as well. But I took a chance with Genepro, I must say I was very impressed. I 3 vendors took the bag to my ARNPC who is my program coordinator. We sit and looked up each ingredient she was impressed with it as well. Her only concern was one of the ingredients is used to treat anarexia. She advised just to be vigilant about watching your weight and not using it as your soul source of Protein. I first tried it in just plain Water to test the no taste and no smell. I mixed on scoop with 16 Oz of water. It doesn't dissolve real quickly but it does. It looks like water downed milk in the water. But for me there was no smell and no real taste in the water. But you do have to keep it stirred up cuz if not then it might be a little gritty but still no taste. The $38 is a little pricy but average price for a decent Protein powder. So anyways that's my opinion of it and I currently use I scoop a day. Again I have nothing to do with the company and this is just on own personal review.

Any actual stats or research on Genepro protein?
ready2bmenow replied to Mrs_O's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I mix my Genepro with water and crystal light twice a day, it makes it cloudy but doesn't alter the texture or flavor...my favorite by far. I will probably be devastated if my protein level is not high enough and I have to switch. -

where can you order it I got my sample directly through the GENEPRO website, but that was back when I first had my surgery over a year ago. I believe it was also available on Amazon at that time. -

very interested in the low "dosage" of just 1 tablespoon of the genepro protein powder but it really does sound too good to be true. i have not found any stats or research on it other than listed from the company so i was wondering if anyone has any actual third party info on it? anyone have good protein levels while on it? i know it will not be my only source of protein but i don't want to waste time and money if it is bogus. it just seems like mixing a tablespoon in something would be much easier than your standard size 1/4 cup serving/dosage. thanks in advance!!! -

Try genepro. Mix it with crystal light, water or whatever liquid you’re allowed to have. If you mix it with warm broth, mix it first with cold water and add slowly to broth. Odorless and tasteless. I still use it

I have used Aldi's Elevation. A scoop of chocolate + 1 T instant coffee, YUM. the price is right...I am having some challenges with sugar so I found another GENEPRO II. Micronized medical protein. 30 g. protein, 0 sugars, 50 calories, about 1 T in volume. A little over $1.25 a serving. I wished I'd known about this product 3 years ago!!! Look around online, many sale prices. I have had good luck with EBay.

Icky Protein Drinks!
wannaBthinsoon replied to dmaddox1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Syntrax nectar is far superior to these. GENEPRO unflavored, as well. However, Not sure if you can buy these locally. I had to purchase online. -
This is when it really hits home. You are going through food withdrawals. I just had a revision from band to sleeve and I’m 14 days post and feeling the same thing, just not as intense as the first time around. Just don’t push it, please. Let the internal incision heal. I also just had my 2 week dr visit today and 6 more days until mushy to semi solids. You can do this. You’ll make it through and look back and be glad you did. Protein helps keep you full. I hate shakes and put unflavored GenePro in my broth. It’s a little scoop that has 30 grams and it really keeps you from feeling hungry. I hope this helps!

I started adding Genepro to my yogurt (Oikos Triple Zero) and I love that you can't taste it at all!

Genepro- 30 grams of protein/serving untrue?
Debbieduck4 replied to Bluesea71's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've been using GENEPRO for several months now and absolutely love it! The package does say 30 gr Protein per scoop which is equivalent to one tablespoon. I also have heard some folks say this may be a physical impossibility as well. Here's what I do because the powder is literally tasteless and mixes into anything hot or cold. I mix a little scoop into my coffee in the morning, then one more into each meal during the day. Now if I were getting the full 30 gr of protein technically I would be eating 120 gr of protein each day. But often I cannot finish a cup of coffee or a meal... and I do think about the claim that it may not really be a full 30 gr of protein... so in the end of the day I estimate I probably eat around 60-90 gr of protein which is exactly where my doctor wants me. This is in addition to any other protein sources I might get during a day which isn't a lot because I am a vegetarian. I just had my 6 month follow-up visit yesterday and all my lab-work came back awesome, I feel great, My dr and nut are on board with my eating plan... so I will keep going. Good luck everyone! -
Hi everyone. I'm 14 months post-op at goal and looking for ways to increase my Protein intake to increase my muscle weight as I exercise. I came across recommendations for GENEPRO on this website but the claims of one scoop having 30 grams of protein seemed too good to be true. After a bit of research on Amazon reviews and searching here it seems others have caught on too. It seems the label is possibly misleading and never states what a serving size is. one scoop may only have 15 grams of protein. I don't have the product so I'm hoping someone out in Bariatric land can confirm the facts and let me know! Can someone also tell me how many calories are in a scoop? http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/330098-Genepro-Users-check-this-out%2E/page__view__findpost__p__3730842

Protein shakes... yuck.
theantichick replied to wren3273's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't done it with coffee yet, but found that it worked OK for broths and Soups if I used my blender and mixed the unflavored Protein (GENEPRO and others both work this way for me) with a small amount of lukewarm Water or milk, then mixed that with the hot liquid. I also find that while the taste doesn't change, the texture definitely does. I cannot stand the protein powders mixed with pudding/yogurt/drinks but it works OK in soups/broths for me. -
Gastric Bypass peeps, how did you deal with these ingredients post op?
Elidh replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had no problems with those foods, either. I did not try almond milk or Isopure (I did Genepro occasionally for a few months, mixed into refried beans, etc.). -

I just want to say that I ordered this Genepro (NUT okayed it) and I did not care for it. It changed the consistency of my food and was very gritty. -

Genepro!!! I can't say enough good about this. It's tasteless, mixes in anything and has 30g of protein. It's the best thing ever, especially when you are sick of other protein drinks
