What do you “EAT”
RickM replied to Excitedforthesleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein drinks are the staple early out; I would avoid that Genepro stuff as it neatly fits into the "too good to be true" miracle supplement scam category (and nobody really knows what it is.) Whey protein, preferably whey isolate, is the well accepted, best absorbed form. I also had greek yogurt, eggs, and some sloppy tuna salad, though those may not be permitted on some diets the first week or two - check with your program directions. -
Good morning, my surgery is Tuesday and the stress is hitting. What did everyone “eat” the first week? I know it is all about the protein but what did you use? Has anyone used Genepro?

The Good The Bad & The Nasty
shedo82773 replied to KristyAB's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Be aware!! I got jumped on like dirt on a shirt for singing the praises of GENEPRO> Got called an idiot because I said that it had 30grams of protein. I was told that there is no way that 1 tablespoon of it could have 30grams. Oh well, love it and every one of my bloodwork for the last 4 years has been great!! In fact, my B vitamins are slightly too high. LOL Just a warning if you get in trouble just roll with it like I did. LOL -

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

My Nutritionist said they were great!!! So of course, I ran down to Kmart and looked for them, They were the slimest gross tasting yucky thick something that I couldn't put in my mouth again!! My nurse told me about this unflavored Protein. It was called PROTOX or something like that (it was 4 years ago) I paid $19.95 for 1, Of course, I bought 2. They were so slimy I couldn't even get 1 TBS down. I am so glad I found unflavored GENEPRO!!! It has saved my life I have it in my Espresso every day. This is a great way to find out what is good or not!! -

How many calories do you eat per day?
Missy161 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Coffee with half and half and real sugar in the morning (my splurge ) Protein shake around 9am Small lunch like a couple of cheese sticks or a laughing cow wedge a little fruit at lunch- I also like chicken salad with a couple of crackers ( rice or pita crackers) Maybe a protein bar late afternoon. Dinner I might have some grilled chicken, zucchinni noodles, cheese or tuna. I don't plan well enough so sometimes I'll just grab another laughing cow wedge and roll it up in turkey. Yesterday I wanted another cup of coffee so I added genepro to it- 30 grams of protein in my coffee. I also had a Powerade zero. I do r hold a great routine so I at least try to keep cheese sticks, protein shakes and cottage cheese around for a quick meal. I'm not a great example of how to do it, but it's working for me. Eggface on Pinterest is an awesome vsg diet resource! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 179.8 GW 135 -
I agree with SGIRL35. I'm sure they're being cautious to allow healing inside as well. My Dr. is conservative as well. I had one week clear liquids, but 2 weeks full liquids. I will be going to Pureed at week 3. So being on the liquids is getting old, I understand that - but what has encouraged me is remembering I DO NOT WANT TO RISK COMPLICATIONS! I read a horror story about someone that had leaks and multiple complications. But I get what you're saying, you just have the desire. I'm sticking to the list of approved stages & liquids/foods on those stages. As far as your protein, what has worked for me is GenePro (one Tablespoon in Crystal light is how I take it) unflavored, disolves great. 30 gm per serving. So I do that twice a day, and with the yogurt it gives you the 70gm goal. My Dr. recommended 60 - 70gm goal. I found the GenePro at GNC. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app

September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
mikala3672 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For all you September Sleevers just like me on FB look for September Sleevers 2017... it's a place you can share your thoughts, concerns, and be supportive with each other. I was sleeved on 9/15 everything was smooth for me no meds after the hospital for me. I am able to write my elliptical and on purée foods I started 218 and at 203 right now. The only problem I had was I couldn't stand my shakes so I ended up buying genepro from GNC it literally has no taste and 30 grams on protein per scoop. You can add it to your water, soup, broth basically anything... Good Luck Sleevers! We got this!![emoji3] -
I like the Premier but I have to stay away from milk products as much as possible. I am using Genepro that I order from amazon and coconut yogurt. Pretty darn good. 30g of protein.
-
I'm 2 weeks out from Lapband revision with Gastric bypass surgery and I also do well with the GenePro. Because it's 30gm protein per serving, I take it with a cup of crystal light in the morning & early evening. With approved low fat Greek yogurt, it meets my protein goal. Can't stand the taste of a few others that seemed tolerable prior to surgery. I found the GenePro at GNC. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm ok with Premier. Chocolate and Vanilla... not so much the caramel, strawberry etc. they also make organic versions if that's your thing. Didn't like GenePro powder at all. -
What you eating 9-12 months post op?
Original Poster replied to breprih's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 months out and here's a typical day for me: Bfast: Premier protein shake 9am: Greek yogurt with couple of grapes Lunch: half an Atkins meal PM Snack: cup of coffee Dinner: 2-3 oz mahi and asparagus If I'm low on protein I'll supplement with a little genepro. I always get in at least 125 oz (about a gallon) of water each day. I'm still not hungry most of the time so I have to make myself hit the daily goals. I'm currently down 95.5 lb and am losing 5-7 lb/ month. I have 30 lb to goal weight. Stats: Height 5'11" female SW 295.5 11/14/16 CW 200.0 (almost there!!) GW 170 -
Why do protein drinks taste awful?
shedo82773 replied to Véronique's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The sad sad story of Protein Drinks At first it is so hard to drink it fast but as I went along I got to where I could do them like a shot. LOL I would hate to know how much $$ I have wasted trying to find one that I could do. Now I am 4 years out and I have tried pretty much all of them. ISOPURE was one that whoever can drink it I commend. Premuir gave me te " back door trots" I used them for Preop for 2 weeks and 4 weeks Postop. GROSS I kind of went thru a phase of Muscle Milk Protein, I mixed the gramcracker protein with Bananna Kind of tasted like a bananna Pudding. But I couldn't find the gramcracker so I gave up on that one. I use GENEPRO everyday. Now I'm not telling you to run out and buy it, you need to check with your DR first. I don't want to stir you wrong. But I LOVE IT!!! I use it in my Espresso everyday. It has no taste, even makes my espresso taste creamy. I have to get a warm amount of water to temper it before I add it to my coffee. No lumps and no taste. It does have a small odor. I jus don't smell it. LOL Since my surgery I have a very good smeller. LOL Have a wonderful Friday. -
I added peanut butter powder from the beginning no problem. Also try unflavored protein powder. I used genepro. Add it to some milk to get in extra protein. The cran grape protein beverage powder isn't very sweet. You may also want to try that. You can order on Amazon or the bariatric pal store. Get the powder. I found the liquid concentrate to be sweeter. You can also add some spices...i used cinnamon to flavor my shakes. If your doctor allows coffee or tea you can also mix with protein shake or unflavored protein powder. I felt weak and tired for the first couple of weeks too. You are not alone. Adventures with Unjury Unflavored
shedo82773 replied to expectopatronum's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use GENEPRO everyday in my Espresso. I love it. I have tried others but I couldn't do it. I was on Premuir protein drinks for 2 weeks Preop and then 4 weeks Postop. I had exploisive "Back door trots". Finally, he said that I was Lactose Intolerant. Sure wish I had known that little tid bit. LOL I would really hate to see how much money I have spent for the last 4 years on different Protein. It was good thing that my nephew drinks protein for his health!! Thats what he told his Teenage son. LOL GENEPRO is all I have used for 2 years. I only use it for my breakfast or lunch. Then I eat a meal at dinner. This has worked the best for me. The thing is each and everyone of us have to find our nitch and do what we have to do to be successful in our Journey. Have an AWESOME Thursday!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON. -
I totally get what you are saying. There was a time (not to far back) that I expressed my love of GENEPRO!!! I had quite a few people jump all over me!! That I was being misled all over the place and that GENEPRO was lying about how much protein they had in it. Now I am ok with peole disagreeing, like was said NOT everyone has the same ideas as me. But...I have seen different ones on here. Not so much the ones that were here when I first started out. In a group like this we will all come accross someone that doesn't agree with us. There is a better way of saying it as how I was talked too. I was basically called a moron!! When I stated that it was sold here on BARIATRICPAL store. I was told it was just the money making that our leaders were into. There has to be a few in ever group. I try the old saying from one of my Favorite Disney shows. Thumper (I do love me some Thumper) His mom told him. If you can't say something nice, don't say NOTHING at all. Let's all agre to be better to each other. Everyone needs this site for support. I hope you all have a great THRUSDAY!!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

Adventures with Unjury Unflavored
expectopatronum replied to expectopatronum's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I bought some of the GENEPRO but I've read mixed reviews on it so I've been hesitant to open it up and try it. I had no idea that the hardest part of this so far would be drinking a silly protein shake! -
Adventures with Unjury Unflavored
coyote replied to expectopatronum's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Have you tried Genepro protein? It definitely has a taste but I can easily mask it with other flavors. I also love Fairlife milk and it will be the only brand I'll drink from here on. I too loved Premier while pre-op but can't stand it now. Tonight for "dessert' I'm making my own protein smoothie with Fage yogurt, Fairlife milk, sugar free syrup, and a little bit of spices. Will see how it turns out! -
I really think it is a learning curve for sure. My taste and smell changed so much. The drinks I liked (kind of LOL) Preop I hated afterwards. I only wish I had found the un-favored GENEPRO. I love it but I wouldn't tel anyone else to use it. Always check with you tam. here are some people on here that don't like it. But for myself it is the one that doesn't have a after taste BTW Welcome you wil get a ton of informatin on here. Just take what you need and leave the rest. Congratulations on starting your amazing journey.

How are you getting your protein in?
Monkeyfulbrighter replied to Hopefull2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the beginning I put Genepro protein into miso soup and got a fair amount in that way -
Genepro has been great for me.. I mix it with Powerade Zero, sugar free pudding & tea . Use a shaker bottle for the liquids and shake a lot for it to dissolve a lot

Just cannot eat
Ready4theday replied to PrayingForWeightLoss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can you have avocados? Nut butter? Greek yogurt? I've also been having luck with Genepro - it's such a small amount of powder for 30g of protein. It mixes well with nearly everything and has very little taste. -
Best of luck to you! I'll be one week post-op tomorrow, and if you're like me, you're in for a tough weekend! But you'll get through it!! Within a few hours of getting to my room (post-op), I was up walking. It's not bad because you still have anesthesia on board. I walked four times that evening. The next morning, I walked four times before noon. I was able to keep down 30ml, then 60ml, then 90ml, then 120ml and I thought, "I'm killing this!" And then I went home. And the anesthesia wore off. Ugh. The pain and nausea were pretty bad. I couldn't get out of bed by myself it hurt so bad. I felt sick to my stomach any time I put anything in it (ice, water, watered-down apple juice, milk, protein shake, etc.) All despite taking an anti-nausea med 3x/day. Eventually I got thirsty enough that I was able to drink water and very, very diluted apple juice. I thought I'd never make my protein goal which was only 60 grams in the first few days. I might have made 30g. I was wondering if I had really made a mistake, if I could really do this. Was I going to be tired and weak forever? Until yesterday. For breakfast, I blended a few pieces of banana with 4 oz Fairlife milk and protein powder and made myself drink it until it was gone. I felt better once it was in my system. I continue to drink and eventually got up the nerve to take my multivitamins. I got the Bariatric Advantage crystallized kind that you mix with water. It tasted awful, but I got it down. Ever since I have felt so much better. Been able to get my protein in (thanks to Genepro) and stay hydrated. Took vits again today and still feel pretty good. Hope this continues! You'll do great! Just know there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's not far away! HW 280 CW 267 SW 274 (8/24/17) GW 150

Any August 2017 Sleevers?
tlkmry59 replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had gastric sleeve on 08/24. Experienced severe nausea and vomiting (even with all the meds given before/during surgery). Had to stay in hospital an extra day but situation was resolved. Doctors and hospital staff were excellent. Now 6 days post-op. A little sore but have not needed pain meds at all. I'm in the full liquid stage. Am able to get most of my water and protein in. Energy level is getting better everyday. Even though I can't eat much I'm still trying to figure out when I'm full and remember to sip and not gulp (it hurts). For those using GenePro do you count a serving at 30g of protein?
