Before I was banded on the 13th, I was drinking the Protein shakes, eating yogurt, etc. I had no issues with "sweet" tasting stuff, but was not a big sweet eater. Since the band, I cannot stomach anything sweet and the majority of the stuff on the liquid phase is sweet. Ever since the banding the Protein Shakes cause me major pain. After my morning shake yesterday I stayed away from the protein shakes and/or protein waters. Today I tried a protein Water and again major pain. I think it possibly has something to do with artificial sweetners. Right now I can't even stand the smell of anything sweet  Has anyone else had this problem? I go to the doctor on Wednesday and I'm hoping he will say I can start mushies cuz I am not finding anything to agree with me on liquids (except egg drop soup).

First Night Home From Hospital.i Need Help
Jlo77 replied to Jlo77's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
This afternoon was better, had cup of soup cream chicken a little bit, had Greek yogurt with 1/2 scoop whey protein. Breakfast was milk with whey protein. I keep everything down ate very small amounts and very slow. Don't feel hungry at all. Stomach seems settled down after prilocec. -
I have been thinking alot about this too lately...Am I eatting too much at one time?......I dont measure my food.. I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing....but I eat until I feel full and then I throw out or wrap up what ever is left over. Then again, thinking back to what I could eat pre banded days makes me sick~ I am typically not hungry...I stay full for hours...My restriction level is awesome....I get some things stuck, but my fault....I dont chew well, or I take HUGE bites of something. I work on that every day to make that better...that has ALWAYS been my downfall since getting this band...and I have done the toddler forks and stuff, but somehow....someway.....Old habits are hard to break I guess. Typically what I eat is Breakfast: Yogurt and cup of coffee w/Equal and FF Amaretto Cream Lunch: Sometimes a protein shake or left overs from dinner (meat and veggie) Dinner: Sesame Chicken with a veggie I drink all day long....water or other sugar free liquid or coffee I may snack on a second yogurt or some cheese and crackers or nuts or FF pudding.. Once in a very very very blue moon I may have some ice cream with my son I am going to try and log everything I eat for a week....just because now I am curious. I haven't been very sucessful at doing this before only because I get busy and forget to write things down....but I am really gonna try cause I have been thinking alot, probably too much, about the possiblity of streaching out my pouch~~ Parinoid delusions more than likely.....

Grape nuts cereal is good mixed in yogurt too. I eat Kashi go lean crunch, or wheat chex once a week or so for something crunchy in the morning.

I'm entering into my 3rd week of being sleeved and have done so well so far. I practically feel as 'normal' as I did the week before surgery. First week I was on clear Fluids, 2nd week, full fluids. The doctor said that in the third week, I should start experimenting...see what kinds of things I can tolerate..."even try mexican if you like mexican". Ironically the first day of my 3rd week, I felt HUNGRY like no other. It was like a fire that couldn't be smothered. So since the Doc said to experience, i figured that was my cue to do just that. Breakfast was a hot bowl of whole wheat cream of wheat. Tasted pretty good and it left me oh so satisfied, quelching that ravenous hunger that was growing inside me. So far so good. For lunch I decided to try a "cheese steak soup" from Whole foods. It has chunks of steak along w/ green peppers and onion. I chewed on little pieces of steak which didn't go down as well as I would have liked, but they went down. Overall I ate about a half a cup before I couldn't do it anymore. Success. Dinner was a whole 'nother story. For some reason I decided to accompany my fiance on a McD's run and ended up ordering a chicken nugget kids meal w/ fries. I got down about 4 fries and two chicken nuggets (although quite uncomfortably). But it went down and I thought to myself, " I would have never thought I would ever be full off of TWO chicken nuggets!" Then, on to bed.. So the next day. Breakfast again was a nice "soupy" cream of wheat. Delicous. Lunch was a kid's pack of greek yogurt. But then the inevitable happened. Leftovers from a meeting in the break room. They were mini deli sandwhiches, so I picked off the cheese and ham and munched on that. Then I tried for the rest of the day to get in my crystal light. Fastworward to after work. Fiance decided to cook some steak and chicken in the slow cooker. We both thought the meat woud be tender enough for my tiny stomach to handle so I had a little bite. Next, I thought about those left over chicken nuggets in the fridge. Tore off the batter and got that down w/ no problem. So what did I do next? Decided to take my left over cheese steak soup and warm that up and have a spoonful of that as well. Do you see where this is going? *gurgle gurgle* Oh no...the feeling in my stomach and in my esophagus was not pretty. I looked at my fiance and bubbled my cheeks as the universal sign that "I'm about to blow chunks" and raced to the bathroom. It all came back out..and oh ever so violently. Hovered over the toilet bowl, one eath shattering heave after another, every peice of whatever i put in my belly today came back out. Inside I'm saying "why meeeeee!" So, I guess i've learned the first very important lesson: Take it slow and easy. The ONLY thing I want to eat again for a while is that cream of wheat! I don't know why but somehow I thought that vomiting woudn't happen to me. I've been feeling so good, I couldn't possibly comprehend that my normal behavior from a month ago, cannot be my normal behavior now. What an eye opening experience. Maybe somehow deep down inside, i really needed confirmation that the sleeve was real. And it wasn't really real until I threw up like the many sleevers that have gone before me. I'm so NOT going to ever do that again lol! I swear!

I was allowed no-sugar added peaches and pears, and banana when I started soft foods. I still try to have at least one serving of those a day in addition to the fruit in my yogurt. My NUT encourages vegetables and fruit.

Thanks for the site! I had no idea milk and yogurt had potassium in it. I would definetly be ok with adding yogurt as a snack since it has good protein in it

As Mis says stomach growling does not = hunger. Mine growls all the time. Yogurt and almonds are slider foods they will not sustain you for very long. You also say that you are so tight that you are having a hard time getting anything down. I think that you may be too tight and may need some Fluid taken out. That might sound counterproductive but then you would probably be able to eat more satisfying foods such as chicken and meat that should sustain you for longer. Contrary to popular belief tight is not the best way for a band to be.

Restriction changes from meal to meal
Ms. Vicki replied to wannabelean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Boy are these threads hitting a "home run" with me. I've only had one fill and keep thinking I need to go for another. Most days I can eat anything I want, just have to chew a bazillion times. However, on Easter Sunday, we went to a BBQ and I add some venison sausage, brisket and a couple of deviled eggs. Finished it off with a bite (really) of the desserts my family ate. Yesterday, I felt queasy all day and didn't want to eat anything, but managed a boiled egg, some yogurt and a few goldfish (crackers). Last night I ate some Pbutter saltine crackers and drank a big glass of peach tea. This morning I still feel like I have something "stuck in my throat", and have no desire to eat anything. Could this be caused by the band? I've not felt "queasy" since I was banded on 2/20/06. I don't know if I'm fighting a virus or if the band is to blame. Any thoughts? Thanks -
Not hungry, but had to start on full liquids today, so I made a yogurt shake w/protein powder and skim milk; managed to down 1 cup. Still not hungry. Largely off the Loratab but the other drugs are a must and they make me quite dizzy. Unfortunately, the nutritionist neglected to tell me how often to eat(every 2, 3, 4 hours? When hungry?) and how much? All I got was, "take in 1000 calories and 65 grams protein a day". Still trying to figure out how I'm going to manage to get the right balance of fruits & veggies in when I'm on real food.

Just wondering how everyone is doing 8 months post-op. I had a good 6 month follow up with doc who said I am on track. I got a FitBit for my bday and it is pretty awesome at tracking my fitness, sleep patterns, hydration and caloric intake/burn. I highly recommend it just because it really gives a great visual of what you are doing! Doc says to aim for 25 more lbs by 1st anniversary. I was plateauing every 10 lbs, lose the 10 fast then plateau again. It seems the plateaus are longer now, but my clothes are getting too big for me still, so although the scale doesn't show it, I know my body is still changing and maybe it's turning fat into muscle. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Highest was 261, pre surgery 241, current 173. I was walking 3 miles twice a week and last week walked at least 2 miles each day for 7 days! I was on vacation though. Now that it's back to reality and work, I am going to aim for 3-4 times a week, adding hills for the cardio portion.I have found many nodules, pea sized to marble sized on my outer thighs, neck, and calves which I assume are lipomas, but have an appt with regular MD to look into this. Anyone else have these? The are a little painful with pressure. I still can only eat a few bites...of anything. My doc wants me to just eat 3 meals a day, but I think I'd die. I wouldn't get enough nutrients with as little as I eat. I personally think eating 5 times a day is fine, especially because I am eating healthy. I still have trouble with meat of any kind. I used to love Water, it's all I drank, but post surgery it has a funny taste to me and is not as satisfying as it used to be...weird huh? Anyone else? I know tastes and preferences change post surgery, but water?! I feel like my stomach will never be the same again and I have just gotten used to the new feelings/limits. I love fruits, nuts, vegetables, yogurt. I take Vitamin B12 daily and should take multi-vites daily but I often forget that one. I have a really bad case of reflux...worse since surgery and oh my is it painful sometimes. I would like to hear how everyone is doing, if you are having the same issues, or any info you want to share about how you are managing your activity, diet, etc. Have any of you looked into the skin removal step? I am on the fence as to whether I will do that or not. Any thoughts? Hope all of you July sleevers are doing well. -PZ

My surgeon says yes to grits and oatmeal. He even says toast(not brave enough for that yet) I know that grits aren't very nutritious but I was thinking of whipping them up with scoops of unflavored Protein powder just for something different. I couldn't stomach jellos or puddings before surgery and even after its hard to to get one down . Im already down to shakes, popsicles, and yogurt so it'd be nice to have a different texture at least once a week. It's never too late, until its too late

It has been 5 weeks post op and so far I am feeling OK. I see lots of folks who say they now have tons of energy and feel great. I feel OK but my energy level is still low with a few periods of a little more energy during the day. I just need to know am I being too hard on myself? I am not sure. I get between 60 to 70 grams of protein a day and on most days I do get 64oz of water. Yet, I still feel that I do not have enough energy. I am still on protein shakes and have started on yogurt, swiss cheese, scrambled eggs (once in a while not everyday). I have been avoiding vegtables and fruits and I have been told not to heat any bread or ceral. I am taking all my vitamins that have been given to me by my nutritionist. Is there anyone else having the same issues? I am trying to wene myself off of protein shakes but maybe it is still too soon. Does anyone have any thoughts that could help me? Thank you

Curious...what Could You Eat Before Compared To After The Lapband?
Jenn1214 replied to alex77709's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thinking about what I ate before the lap band actually makes me ill. For breakfast I would eat two huge bowls of sugary cereal. Lunch was a fast food meal, complete with a huge greasy burger or chicken sandwich, fries, and soda. Dinner was usually similar, except I would wash it down with ice cream or candy. Add to this loads of unhealthy snacks like candy, chips, doughnuts, cookies etc. No wonder I weighed 251 pounds at my highest! I was probably eating at least 5000 calories a day. Now breakfast usually consists of oatmeal or a greek yogurt with some sliced almonds. Lunch is often a Boca Chik'n patty and steamed veggies, and dinner is a lean protein with veggies. I do snack but I try to keep it healthy, like almonds. I'm not perfect, but WAY better than I used to be. -
Looking For Someone To Talk To About Lap Band
jellibean replied to shellcampbell84's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Way to go Erin! I have a problem with sugar too. I love the app because I can see what areas I need to improve in. For Snacks I buy power bars, yogurt, cheese sticks, and Protein shakes. I like buying the Atkins shakes for on the go and use the powder shakes at home. I have even made sugar free pudding and Jello in single serving sizes to help with my sweet tooth. Not sure if what I eat for snacks is completely right but, I hope it gives you some ideas. Sent from my iPad using LapBandTalk -
Curious...what Could You Eat Before Compared To After The Lapband?
babycakes86 replied to alex77709's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i cud have binged all day... every day.. and be comfortable... after being banded.. i think it honestly depends on what i eat.. um like if i eat yogurt.. imma be hungry in 2 hrs.. ( and by yogurt i mean 6 oz) if i eat 6 oz of beef.. i would more than likely be full for a good 6 or 7 hrs. my meals are pretty much abt 6 to 8 oz of anything on any given day. -

Lavender Gooms replied to Lavender Gooms's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks Valentina! Day 4 also has gone well so far, expect for my thoughts of going to buy burgers and pizza. I have maintained for today by just having a yogurt with my three Protein shakes and Water. I just want the 25th to hurry up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My diet plan is 2 shakes a day has to be below 25 carbs, 2 cups of milk a day 2% or Skim, 1 cup of fruit juice, 3 dairy products a day to include( Light Yogurt, sugar free pudding, 1/2 cup cottage cheese) 2 fruits a day ( a small fruit or 1/2 cup canned), 2 fudge sycles (no sugar added) 2 cups of veggies a day ( can use italian dressing on these) all the soup broth i want and all the popsycles, crystal light i want. I know ppl keeps having issues with this diet and i know i am only on the 2 day but for me its been pretty easy. The worse part is the shakes only found one i really like alot. But the rest of the day i am eating eating eating and feel good. I hope this helped.

wonder if they sell it in Fla. sounds like a good snack..I like most of the greek yogurts but some don't have the calorie/protein ratio I need. and some have a good amt of sugar which I try to avoid.. My nutritionist says I need to stay 5 gms or less..

I love the buffalo chicken too, I use chicken (sometimes chicken breasts, rotisserie chicken, or sometimes canned) and add the hot sauce/wing sauce, plain greek yogurt, and a little bleu cheese dressing. I also love rotisserie chicken or smoked chicken with hidden valley ranch dip mix made with greek yogurt or the hidden valley ranch fiesta dip mix.
