I was 13 weeks post op yesterday and doing just fine. But this morning, that is another story. I decided to have a scrambled egg with cheese and some ham. I have had this before with no problems. I usually have my 32oz of decaf tea with a scoop of unflavored Protein in it but this morning for some reason I wanted food. Well I made it and sat down to eat it and when I had about three bites left I ended up throwing up half of it, sorry if this is TMI. I have not thrown up at all since surgery and I did not like this. I am thinking that it is because I ate to fast rather than the food not agreeing with me? I know better than to eat fast but I guess I wasn't paying attention like I should have been. Now Sherman (my new tummy) feels awful and I am hoping this feeling passes soon. I had to cancel my gym date with my friend for this morning and I hate doing that. When you guys have experienced this do you just wait for it to pass?? Should I drink something or should I wait a it longer?? Right now I am just reading posts on here snuggling with my doggie. I hope everyone's day is going better than mine!

bennigancat posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Today I was in so much pain all day that I couldn't stand straight. I've been trying to go for three days but nothing happens even with a lot of work. Today i took a full dose of MOM, no luck. I ate baby food prunes, no luck. I took a Fleet suppository, no luck. I took a Fleet enema, liquid only, but no luck a moving the block. Has this happened to anyone else? What have you done to fix this? I am miserable! -
After surgery....
Tired_of_being_Tired replied to pw725's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine alone. I was alone during the day and actually was happy about it because the gas gods were not good to me. It sounded like a shooting range in my house, but since I was alone, I didn't worry about it. (and I am happy to report no animals were hurt by the cross fire) Sorry if that was TMI! I had my surgery on a Thursday, was released from the hospital on Saturday, was off 1 full week and back to work on the following Monday, with no problems, and most importantly, no gas heehee! Good luck! You will be just fine -

April Bunnies '09- Let's share: How are you doing?
AngieB2009 replied to Band_Groupie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okay Bunnies - Here is my update. 1. WEIGHT- 246 ya baby! 2. FILLS- I have had 3 fills. With a total of 1.6 in my band. (I have a 4cc band.) 3. RESTRICTION- Good level of restriction. I am eating a cup of food per meal. (unless I have slider foods.) I feel satisfied and have no hunger pains for hours after eating. 4. RULES-I feel like I am doing good with the bandster rules. 5. ANYTHING ELSE- Going to have some lab work done to check my Vitamin levels. Noticing more bruising so I am wondering how my Iron is? I have been taking a liquid multi Vitamin A few times a week, along with calcuim, E, and NeoCell. I have noticed some hair loss, nothing to alarming. TMI alert - I notice I poop less than I use to, and it is often harder. On the verge of to hard. Yikes! Hard to eat Fiber, and I am terrible about adding it in to my diet. Right now I have the powder and think the chewable tablets would be much better for me. (I could count them as a snack...a little humor there!) I drink coffee in the morning and then hit the vitamin Water. 60 oz a day. -
Now this is TMI here. But..... I've noticed a difference 'down there'.... In a good way. Lol. I think it's the diet change and I'm drinking much more than I've ever drank.

Hi Everyone! I am a newbie, 4 days post op. Happy to have my band... All is going as expected, experiencing the gas pain, the fullness upon sipping about 2/3 ozs of broth, drinking my Water all day as possible, sipping not gulping taking my time, making sure to follow the rules of the road to the tee. however... have one problem presenting itself...let me explain... There is one thing that I will do anything to avoid and that is the stormy feeling right before i have to vomit. I will do anything to avoid that feeling, anything including sitting on the floor and crying like the biggest baby in the world! I have avoided crying due to being post op banded, but near it tonite. In case you don't know what I am referring to, it's the extreme salivation, breaking out in a nauseating sweat, getting dizzy as if you may faint, pain in the chest / acid reflux - nasty feeling you may or may not get right before actually vomiting. (it's gross, sorry for TMI). Anyway, this has happened for the past 3 nights, every night when I lean back into my recliner to sleep. it doesn't happen during the day, only during the evening right before bed. I thought it was maybe that I was not giving myself time between my last meal/drink for the evening, but tonight I made sure I didn't have anything for at least 3 hours before bedtime and it still happened like clockwork, the minute I sank back into my recliner and began to get comfortable-wham... My stomach churned, my mouth got all full of saliva, I broke out into a nauseating sweat and auto responded by jumping up and leaning over the porcelain only to not vomit again, just stood and swayed and spit until the feeling passed again- it only happens for about a minute and then I am fine and can rest peacefully the remainder of the night. (A good thing that i don't actually vomit i guess). I am not eating more than 3 0zs of liquid broth 3 times a day, i sip it, i give myself at least 30 seconds to a minute between sips, yes, I count, I am drinking as slow as a tortoise and not on any solids yet, not even mushies. I am so determined to do this the right way and again avoid getting stuck (nothing to actually get stuck on yet) and again, want to avoid this slime stuff as much as possible.. not sure why this is happening or what else I can do for it other than the gas-x strips and anti-nausea meds, I was prescribed post op.. that are evidently not as effective at night?? Suggestions? Thanks for reading,

Things I will not miss...
LessofKat replied to terry1118's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg! This has my laughing and crying at the same time, I never really thought about all the stuff us "fluffy" folks had to go through. So it has got me thinking about all the things I'm not going to miss like... The marks you get in you skin from jeans and when you take off your jeans it hurts and you scratch it until you break the skin!! The fear of breaking chairs because you are so heavy. Having to hoist yourself in and out of a car. Feeling ashamed when I am out to eat and getting all the stares from people and I know they are thinking "tubby should have gotten a salad"!! Turning down social gatherings because you're afraid of being the fat one. Threatening your mother-in-law to take down the fat pics of you from Facebook. Hearing how confident I am for the size I am!! (Really!!!) Telling Lane Bryant to kiss my ass and not have to spend a ton of money just to get a pair of jeans!! (Really excited about this one!!) I'm not going to miss not being able to play with my kids and not planting the flowers they have been begging to do but I'm to fat to do it!! I'm not going to miss the heartburn!! The holes that your thighs rub into your pants. Boring sex with my husband because I am to fat to do more than one position (sorry if tmi). That's all I can think of for now. Thanks for starting this post it has kind of help me put things into perspective and realize how limited I am! -
Pre-Op Liquid Diet In A Business Meeting? Hmmmmm
Nick'sMom replied to az1369's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been thinking about the same thing. I travel locally to my client's offices and we frequently have lunch meetings. I hoping for soup but as a last resort, just maybe eating a little salad with perhaps a slice of turkey - no carbs and keep it very lean. No salad dressing. I was also concerned about something I heard about being on the pre-op diet...um.. to be careful about bathroom breaks. Liquids go in, Liquids come out. Don't wait until the last minute and never (i'm sorry if this is tmi) trust a fart. I am taking this advice to heart because the last thing I want is an issue when I'm in with clients. -
I have some stuff that I already bought but am not ready to wear yet. Here goes some TMI: one is a school girl outfit with 6 inch heels that are pink and then theres the naughty cop outfit with thigh high boots.Husband better watch out cause I have some handcuffs for that outfit

Brief first 7 days description?
gummykandi replied to kaytiebugs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't actually been banded seven days yet but here's what I have so far Thursday 9/11- starving all morning til my surgery at noon, when I was in the recovery room I was in SO much F***ing pain all I could do was cry and point to my stomach (I also Has a huge tumor removed which actually hurt much worse than my band) Finally got the pain under control and was at home at 7:30 pm, drank some Water tokk some drugs slept, woke up crying becasue my drugs wore off, had to wait another hour to take them, this happened twice Friday 9/12- Felt queasy and semi hungry all day, had some liquids took pain meds at appropriate times, walked a little, not too bad a day all said, i just selpt alot, Horrible burping/stomach rumbling, liquid diarrhea (I know TMI) developed cold/allergy upper respiratory thing cough when I lay down, back hurts alot gas pains Saturday 9/13- Felt great, was off the pain meds, ate more that 1000 calories, walked, did not take a nap probably pushed it too hard, slept through the night Sunday 9/14- Felt like crap, nauseated all day long, cursed myself for getting the damn band Monday 9/15- No pain at all, severe aversion to eating, very very itchy incisions Tuesday 9/16- No pain at all, decided that if eating doesn't make me ill, I will force myself to eat I have been getting all of my fluids in though every day that is SUPER important, I have very mixed feelings about a band I thought I would love, probably just emotional stuff... hope this helps. -
I am a month out of vsg and am dealing with very hard, dry bm. Any advice?

I did some research and expected some spotting post op, which i had on post op day 3 and 4. Then about 16 days later i SWORE i ovulated and then a couple weeks after that i had a spontaneous period. the first in over 20 years. i know i had to have ovulated when i thought i did- also the first time without fertility drugs- probably since high school! estrogen is stored in fat so melting off pounds may help to induce normal ovulation and menstruation. I called my OB and got back on birth control pills. I have PCOS and although this first 'natural' cycle is good, it will take many more pounds to shed before my PCOS is affected. tmi- it was a VERY heavy cycle (having been off the pill for 6 wks prior to surgery) and lasted for many days.

Thank you so much! I finally dropped 2 more pounds. And actually (tmi as well) I'm experiencing issues with constipation as well. :/ I am going to try taking something to help. I guess Metamucil. Thanks again for the encouragement. -

Things I will not miss...
futuremrsparker replied to terry1118's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I won't miss so much. Mainly being the "fat girl" in the room. I'm so sick of it. I've been the token fat girl since as far back as I can remember. Ugh! I also won't miss worrying if certain areas of my body are smelly after sitting for so long. As Melissa put it in the show My 600 Pound Life "As a fat woman, no matter how much you wash, how hard you try.. Ya end up smellin"... I am the queen of smelly good stuff and always trying to look and smell nice, but its not always possible with how much I sweat. It's so gross. I also won't miss only being able to have sex for small amounts of time because my hips feel like they're going to give out on me. Sorry if this has been a TMI post. Haha -
I was banded Oct 1, 2008. The complications started the day of surgery when a nurse held my ankles and made me reach above my head, grab the bedrails and pull my butt into the hospital bed. I had a shredding pain spread across my abdomen. No big deal they said, hit the pain pump. The next morning I woke up to an enormous bruise that was about 7" wide by 10" long across my abdomen under my port site sutures. I was scared. . .But was reassured that nothing was wrong with me. Fast forward 10 days, suture removal, the bruising has now spread to my side and down even further my abdomen. The port site suture could not be removed because of swelling. The nurse dug around in one of my lap sites to remove sutures, and she couldn't get them out. YAY. 2 weeks later, I had cottage cheese consistency, old blood spewing from the lap site, it's now the size of a lima bean, and I see all the way to the pink layers of my abdomen, right through the fat. The infection is now tunnelling through my tummy. YAY YAY. They didn't seem too concerned, just keep it clean. Okay, off I go, 6 weeks later, the little hole is now getting smaller, it closes one day, but to my surprise there was something growing behind it. LOVELY. Prescription of Levaquin should resolve that. . . I quit having restriction around Thanksgiving with a total of 2.5cc in my "band", in the tubing really. Was told to just stick to the diet, and to remember I am ahead of the game with 25lbs gone. December rolls around, not restriction, can eat more than I should, trying to be good. Called office about not having restriction, am told that it may take 25+ fills to get restriction and I need to accept it. REALLY? I'll throw out this and it maybe TMI for some. But, our sex life suffered substantially because the port area was so sensitive, sex was sometimes impossible. . . Even though my husband is the most understanding, loving, and supportive husband in the universe, I hated feeling that we could not be intimate because I hurt so badly. Okay, now fast forward end of Jan. Lost 1 pound in 2 months, YAY. I have a lot pain in my port area especially about my monthly cycle. Told surgeon, he looks dumbfounded. Manipulates the port for 15-20 minutes, I get 1cc finally. Thought I had restriction, yeah, not really. February, port pain is becoming more and more noticeable. And when I say pain, I mean pain level 6-8 on a daily basis. I go in for a fill even though they don't want to give me one, and he can't get to the port after 20 minutes of gouging around in my abdomen. It's swelling, bruising... I ask about the bleeding, and they finally agree to test me for R5 factor, reaction to Heparin. I am NEGATIVE. I received 5cc of heparin over a 30 hour hospital stay. Okay, March 3rd, went in for a fill under fluoro, yep port is flipped, he digs on me for another 20 minutes, 5 different sticks, and can't get it under fluoro. I'm devastated. . . I ask him "why do I hurt everyday?" his reply " I honestly don't know ". . . Hmmmm this is not good. 6 days later, I show up for another attempt under fluoro even though they tell me it is to be done the next week. He agrees to try again, I get to radiology, and he says " have I accessed the port since repositioning it?" Ummm I was just here 6 days ago, and NO you haven't repositioned my port. He chuckled and said "oh dear, I've forgotten your chart." The fluoro table is at a 25degree angle, he manipulates the port and is able to give me 1cc, and tells me "see ya in 60 days". . . And off he went. I left feeling like I was just ridden hard and put up wet. It was horrific. . . I called a week later and spoke with his nurse who proceeded to tell me " you haven't been happy since the beginning" I argued and said " No I haven't been happy since I have been ignored, and brushed off, and having complications that are trivialized by you and your husband." I told her I wanted my chart, and it took me driving down there and waiting an hour and a half to get my measley chart. She proceeded to tell me " you should of had gastric bypass like I told you". LOVELY. I am not sure if I would of been successful with the band, but I know that I am so glad that I am getting the revision. The PB, sliming, getting stuck on crystal light was just too much for me to tolerate. I followed the rules, I worked my butt off for that 1lb loss between Thanksgiving and January 22nd. I truly feel like I was set up for failure by my surgeon, and I am so grateful to have the approval that I need to have the band removed and revision to the sleeve in June. I was one of those ecstatic band patients until I had problems. Couple that with lack of concern and aftercare from my surgeon, I don't regret my choice for the band initially, I am sad it took me this long to get the hell away from my original surgeon.

I'm tight in the mornings, so I usually have a protein shake or yogurt for breakfast and I mix in 2 or 3 spoonfuls of Benefiber. If I get stopped up I rely on good ole MOM (milk of magnesia). I'm running to the potty about an hour after that. Pre surgery, I had multiple bm's a day and they were the sudden urge types, now I go once every couple of days or once a day. Maybe TMI, but oh well.

Anyone Banded 6/29/09 I would love to talk to you.
sbackus replied to imaluckydog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Help! I have never done a chat room before so hope someone will talk back. My lapband was done on Monday on an out patient basis in Redwood City, CA. I still have a lot of pain at my waistline incission by belly button. It particularly hurts to reach or roll over. I still am taking 15cc of liguid vicodan every 6 hours, and I thought I was tough! No problem with the liquid foods--no nausua etc. I have a hard lump (size of egg) at waist to left of belly button (from my point of view) and also have not had a bm. I realize that all that has gone in is liquid, but shouldn't someting come out? Is this TMI? Does this format have spell check. Thank you--anyone who answers. Sally -
10 Weeks Post Op Help
FiguringItOut replied to FiguringItOut's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! First I want to start off by saying THANK YOU for this post I needed this, shoot I need people to speak to that may have or is experiencing the same as me. Okay now to answer some of your questions. My starting weight before surgery was 312.8 My day of surgery is 306.4 My BMI the day of surgery was 49.1 Today weight is 380.0 Also yes I do that a lot I comparing my weight loss to others. I am just so ready for it to all be off, this week I am switching up my workout routine and only doing cardio because I was told that I am not even suppose to be lifting weights. Also I am going to change my eating up and cook some of my veggies and do some shrimp. Also it wasn't TMI we are women here, don't be embarrassed about what we have to go through on a daily basis's. Also BIG CONGRATS on reaching your goal! -
I'm about 4 months post op. I still feel tired most of the time and during my time of the month it's a hundred times worse(sorry TMI I know right). I feel better when I excersize, but I'm not consistent with it. The thing you have to remember is you are not getting a ready to use source of energy anymore. All of your sugar has to be broken down from your fat storage. So don't get discouraged it takes time to adjust, but it is so worth it. Make sure to keep up with your vitamins and give yourself time to adjust to your new body.

This is majorly TMI....but seriously, folks....a bulb syringe and some warm soapy water....just a squirt or two...makes a world of difference. No straining, no cramps. Kinda gross for some folks, but I'm a little clinical about these things...and the instant relief without side effects makes it worth it to me.

1 yr post op and very frustrated
bambam31 replied to got2bme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Use that band to only control the hunger. If you're hungry - get a fill. Use your exercise to burn the fat off. Expecting to get anywhere near goal without intense exercise is probably Wizard of Oz stuff. And I'm a firm believer that exercise isn't always sufficient exercise. Your body, over time, will learn to become more efficient and stronger - you'll have to push harder and find new ways to challenge yourself to get the same results consistently. Just walking, in time, isn't going to cut it. And remember that less food is not always better. You need fuel to keep the metabolism fire burning. Keep your meals spread out and get sufficient Protein. I eat at or above 2000 calories a day, well spread out, and all containing sufficient protein. I'm intensly exercising 5+ days a week. I know this stuff comes easier for guys, but the same principle applies to women. Water intake is also a HUGE factor. When my metabolism is cranking it's hard to drink enough water to keep the pee running clear. I can drink near or above a whole gallon of pure water a day (aside from coffee/tea) and still have a yellowish tinge. (TMI I know)....... You have to keep flushing yourself out, not to mention your burning calories as your body is processing the water. Good luck and keep up the fight! Brad -
I have no idea about costs i live in Scotland so got it on the NHS. It does have hormones in it, but at a very very small amount compared to the pill so side effects are lessened. They are also apparantly more effective and safer than the old copper coils, and have the added advantage of lessening periods rather than making them heavier. The strings hang out of your cervic, they dont come down into the vagina, as i say you can feel them but i have to squat and put your fingers up reeally far (sorry, TMI) and they are so small and tiny that they are difficult to feel. My boyfriend cant feel them. Apart from the fact i dont have a period anymore (and checking the strings every few months) i would have no awareness of having the coil in.
