    Any April Surgery Dates?

    Hello, New to this group. I got my surgery date last week, I go in on April 12. Will be starting my pre-op liquid diet on 3/29.

    Pureed food

    Is Reser’s seafood salad acceptable during the purée stage? I’m 2.5 weeks post op and my doc has me on purée. I’ve done homemade refried beans and can tolerate it some, scrambled eggs, broths, yogurts. I’m burnt on protein shakes and I’m trying to work on getting protein from food as much as I can even though it’s quite difficult at this stage. I’m wondering if the seafood salad would help me at all or if I should avoid it at all cost
  3. I had really bad diarrhea the first couple weeks, it did eventually solid up. It was B.A.D. As in, it would come on and if I wasn't in the bathroom when I felt it coming on I'd have to be in the shower and doing laundry. My doctor did tell me that if it lasted any longer they'd want me to call them, just in case something was up. Definitely reach out to your team to check with them.

    Had Gastric Bypass 3/8- still on 2nd week liquids. The first 3-4 days the hardest… you got this!!!!

    Sharp, crampy pain on the left side of my torso

    Me too...this has been so horrible, i've missed almost two weeks of work because of this and am only just now starting to be able to actually eat again (I've felt like I'm starving to death, no joke. I've been eating spoonfuls of peanut butter because my capacity is so small it was about the only way to get any nutrition in me!).

    Food Scale...at work

    No, I just weigh it before I pack it and/or bring portion controlled, single-serving items (I am very guilty of eating Lunchables and leaving the crackers behind in a pinch LOL). I actually pack both my breakfast AND lunch AND snacks when I go into the office, a 10 hr day that starts at 6:30 AM once a week. The way I figure it I need to take care of Future Me's needs so I don't feel tempted to go poking around in the vending machine. My lunch usually looks like this (I am 18m post op and am in maintenance, but my calories are low because I am a small person): Breakfast: Zero sugar Chobani, 1/4 oz of chopped walnuts or pecans, Super Coffee protein shake as a mid morning snack. (all in, about 200 calories and 25g of protein) Lunch: Veggies, some kind of dip (if you aren't making dips with greek yogurt what are you doing with your life?), usually a couple of "lunchmeat roll ups" that are each one slice of deli meat and half a slice of cheese, another 1/4 oz of nuts (usually pistachios this time), a couple pickle slices (usually somewhere around 250-ish calories and another 25g of protein) Snacks: Options include Babybel light and a couple triscuits, Campbell's Well Yes sippable soups, protein shakes, or half a protein bar (I usually end up with leftovers)(any of these would give another 10g or so of protein). I eat dinner at home with my husband on these days and it's usually something protein-heavy

    Update: I had a really stubborn case of pneumonia and the pressure of my swollen lung was pressing on my stomach AND heart (it was in the lower left lobe of one lung). I've been on heavy-duty antibiotics for a week and I'm slooooowly starting to be able to eat again and have actually gained back 4 of the pounds I lost (that I DID NOT want to nor was I trying to lose).
  8. Hello apologies for the unsavory topic! I'm waiting to hear back from my surgical advice but wanted to ask here because people are so helpful, I'll be 3 weeks post op this sunday and every day since the surgery I've had bad diarrhea (as in complete liquid and orange) apologies tmi I know Has anyone else had this? I'm struggling because it makes me feel nauseous all day nearly and I know it's only a matter of time before I need to go and sit on the throne again, I lie down after and about 20 minutes later I dont feel so awful Surgery advice said they would expect it to be dumping syndrome but I haven't had sugars because they taste foul at the minute and I'm hardly eating or drinking either and it's been every flipping day now! I know it must clear up but it's making it so all I'm doing is lying down and feeling like I made a stupid decision Thanks in advance! Sam

    Vaginal bleeding after surgery?

    as others have said, screwed up menstrual cycles are common the first few weeks or months after surgery due to the hormone surge. Some women report hormone-related emotional weirdnesses, too. It should all stabilize once your rate of weight loss slows down.

    Should I get surgery

    Yes, you are definitely working yourself up lol If you know it's the right thing for you, don't psych yourself out. I am one of the very unlucky ones that has to have a revision. I never had gerd or reflux before my surgery, so I chose the sleeve. I have LOVED my sleeve. Unfortunately, it caused horrible gerd that also caused gastritis and esophagitis, so I was put on 80mg of Nexium. I've been on it for 7 months now, and it caused polyps all through my stomach. I've had 2 surgeries to remove them, and now nodules all through my duodenum, which also have to be removed. Once they are, I'll be cleared to have my revision to bypass. I'm told that should take care of the gerd, which will allow me to get off the Nexium, which will stop the formation of polyps and nodules. I still don't regret my sleeve. I've lost over 110 pounds, gotten off all 3 of my diabetes meds, gotten off my blood pressure med, my mobility is way way better, I work out 5 days per week, all my labs have come back normal repeatedly, I can honestly say it's still the best thing I've ever done, even with the complications.

    3 weeks post op

    I pretty much eat the same exact things. I had miso soup today and a 3oz piece of grilled chicken plus protein shakes, yogurt and decaf tea. At 3 weeks post I feel like I can eat. I also have not lost anymore weight this week. Thinking I should try and stick to liquids only for another week.
  12. Firstly hi all, I'm new here. My name is Helena. Just a little backdrop - I'm 37 years old, from the UK. I'm 5'9 and weigh 270lbs/20 stone. I talked to my local doctor recently about getting weight loss surgery and then I few weeks later I suddenly get a letter through telling me that an appointment has been booked with a bariatric surgeon in a few months time! If I'm approved I will be getting the surgery done on the NHS which means I essentially don't have to pay for it. That sounds like a blessing. But of course now I'm freaking out, being the massive coward I am I have been binge watching vlogs and from everything I'm hearing - whilst the end result is great - I don't know if I want to or even if I CAN go through the operation. For many reasons. Firstly I have never been operated on. I've never had children so don't know what childbirth or a c section feels like. I've been pretty blessed, aside from a herniated disc I had a few years ago, I've managed to live a pretty pain free life. The second thing might sound a little bit selfish but in my 30s I grew to accept myself as a bigger person. Whilst I hate the size that I am I feel like I don't really care about getting down to my ideal bmi and that I would be perfectly happy being 220lbs or if I'm really lucky 200lbs (I told you, thats gonna sound selfish). I can live with a heavier me. Ideally I just want to lose some weight. But by some I don't mean 10lbs, enough so that I can lose a few dress sizes. Many years ago I lost just one dress size and felt amazing, so much more confident. But that was in my 20s and achieved from pretty much a starvation diet (about 700-800 calories a day, only lasted a few weeks and of course eventually put it all back on). I won't be able to do a starvation diet in my 30s, don't have the willpower now. So I want to keep the surgery option as my last, last, LAST option (without sounding ungrateful) but so far all the success stories I've heard of people who have lost roughly 50lbs-70lbs or more is that it was achieved through some sort of surgery. Do you honestly think its achievable to lose the weight naturally within a year (I need to lose it within a year) or do you think I should just prepare myself for the surgery?? Sorry if you think its a stupid question, I'm just kinda lonely with no one else to really turn to so I kinda need to get this off my chest. If you think it can be achieved naturally could you tell me what diet/weight loss plan I should opt for? Thank you for listening x

    3 weeks post op

    I am 3 weeks out today too! I’m still on liquids for another week, that’s just my Dr. it’s hard seeing others at same place eating soft foods! Today though I’ve been “grazing” all day. Since I have no issue with liquids, nothing is really filling me up. I’ve had a protein shake, soup, sugar free pudding with almond milk, more soup, yogurt, and jello. Not really hungry, but totally not satisfied.

I have an Etekcity bathroom scales that charts weight, BMI, etc. I weight every morning, I feel it gives me an immediate insight as to things I did or didn't do appropriately: such as, did I have too much salt, did I drink enough water, did I get enough protein, what was my calorie count, and after surgery bathroom visits change a lot. I have had stalls, and increases, of course, but I think just being mindful works for me. Best wishes to everyone!

    March 23 buddies yet?

    The liquid diet i had while in the hospital wasn't bad. I know everyones bodies respond different. I slept. Other then when i got up to walk, shower & eat. I slept a lot. Im traveling home & eating is a struggle traveling. They packed me food to bring on my plane rides. They packed: water, jello, gatorades, apple juices & chicken broth to bring with me. I have not ate meat in over three years. The chicken broth was my best protein so I ate it. bothered me a little. but choose your battles. ill be home soon health is #1 priority.
  16. Hi all, So my guidance from dieticians say to just use a small tea plate for food now and stop eating after 20mins. Very vague to me as some meals I can clean the plate but others I get full quickly. Mostly I've been fine with this and feel full before it's finished but today I had two small tortilla wraps with chicken & veg inside ... Before surgery I'd have six or more! I'm just over 7 weeks out, is two wraps too much? I felt no pain and took my time, I just don't want to stretch the stomach unknowingly. I assumed it was fine as if I took the wraps apart it wouldn't fill a tea plate. Just looking for some reassurance! P.s.     March VSG 2023

    I had my VSG & hiatal hernia repair March 7th. I had no gas pain, brief nausea on day 1 coming off anesethia, and have been doing well. My first week I didn't have much hunger (I was very weak and tired, and also on my cycle). About day 4/5 post-op, I started feeling hungry; liquids don't offer a lot of satiety. At my 1 week follow-up, my surgeon approved me to move onto soft foods, to take vitamins, and to not have to crush pills. Their goal is between 700-800 calories, and today (so far) I have met 700. Soft foods are tolerated great, though eggs sit a little heavier in my stomach. I'm surprised at myself. I didn't think I'd be able to eat or drink this much (50oz water today; average 8 - 10 cups). I'm down 22 pounds, but I feel a little worried that I'm doing too well. I'm scared of eating too much and stalling weight loss. :( I feel conflicted, like I should be happy and energized, but I'm mostly anxious.
  18. I also experienced a two week stall right after surgery. It’s heartbreaking, I had many doubts, I constantly wonder if I was doing something wrong. Mostly I was concerned about experiencing constipation pre op I was always regular but now I was having a movement every 3 days. That was hard and concerning for me. I tried taking more fiber in any way possible. Finally at the start of my fourth week post op things were moving along easier. Once that happen I started to see my weight move as well. I’m a little more relief now I do focus on my water, fiber, protein and getting more steps in. That seems to have help with my two issues. I am not losing weight not as fast as others but I’m ok, just trying to focus on the process.

    I’m a week out post-op now and starting protein shakes today. Despite my 20 lbs. drop, reality hit me like a brick yesterday and have been feeling overwhelmed with buyer’s remorse.

    Weight gain

    This week I had two consecutive lunches that were very, very salty. I gained a pound each day. In my case its just water. It will slowly disappear. You will get used to these little fluctuations. I log all my foods and know my calories and protein every day. I therefore know I am always in a calorie deficit. It really helps
  21. My first stall began at 2 weeks post op and lasted nearly a month. Hang in there, it'll break eventually.
  22. Hello, As of Feb 18th, I was 4 years out from surgery. Surgery went well, except for about 2 weeks after surgery I had sever GERD. The doctors weren't sure what was causing it other than I went from the Lap Band to Sleeve. It lasted about 2 weeks and then there after never had a issue until just recently. I was taking 1 Prilosec a day and now bumped it to 2x a day. Since that was not really working, I tried Pepcid and that has not worked that I can tell. I do have an appointment next week with my bariatric doctor and Im thinking they are going to order a upper GI. Im just wondering if anyone has experience this being this far out from surgery. I thought with being 4 years out that I wouldn't have this issue. Im scared to death that they won't figure it out and they will try to transition me to full bypass. Thank you,

    February 2023 surgery dates!

    That will definitely help! I started doing 30 min of stationary bike on week 3 - just be really careful about how much you're exerting and make sure you're well hydrated. Prior to sx I was in the gym 2-3 times a week and definitely miss being able to guzzle half a bottle of water when I start feeling too hot. 29 lbs as of this morning - 4 weeks and 3 days postop! It feels really good and I'm actually starting to notice some differences in clothes. 30% to my goal!
  24. Is it okay to drink vitamin water? I tried the sonic water flavor packets that way and it taste much better. You should definitely try it this summer 🙂 I dont either. Its so hard. But I know right? The my ounces went up by 7 ounces. Frustrating! Maybe not eat my last meal so late. Probably my issue as well. I have a weight watchers scale. I can't wait to start going to the gym! I plan on starting at week 5. I have a friend who agreed to go with me 3 times a week. Things should hopefully move better right? I'm only going to start with walking and the bike. Then each week increase the time by 10 minutes. Once I get cleared to do other exercises, I plan on 30 minutes of cardio then whole body workouts on the machines. Eventually increase cardio up to 45 minutes then whatever time it takes to do the other workouts. I have a fitbit watch that I should start using too. Yay! That's awesome! How much are you down so far since surgery?

    February 2023 surgery dates!

    Oooh no I've never tried it that way! I'll have to remember that in the summer time. I know some people do better with avoiding the scale, but I do not 😩. I weigh myself at the same time everyday and every little 0.1lb movement is encouraging to keep going. My scale doesn't list ounces, but it does go to the 1/10th pound, so I do track it like that. I have a garmin scale so everytime I weigh it syncs to my app so I have all my activity tracking from my watch and my weight progress in the same spot. After a week of very little scale movement, it dropped 2 lbs this morning so I think I'm over the stall! I'm cleared for working out so I've just started back in the gym last week and I added some jogging in yesterday as well so I think that will help keep things moving more than just walking or biking.
