What to do with drunk drivers?

When I received my ABO card in Louisiana they made it very clear to me that you shouldn't serve someone who was obviously drunk. I was more speaking of people who serve or purchase alcohol for someone under 21. But now that you bring it up, bars should do more to encourage designated drivers. Like free cokes, Water, juice whatever. Being the DD sucks so bars that don't should really consider at least doing that for them.
2. Dub, good lessons being learned. I am with you, I pretty much do not eat out in a normal way anymore, just not worth it. When I do eat out, I just order an appetizer. Now that my weight loss "fast" time is done, I know that weight gain is possible... so being very vigliant about my eating and exercise. I had a major shoulder injury four months ago, but that is better and am able to start swimming again this Monday. On eating fast -- I was always an inhaler... very fast and very big servings. The stomach will not allow big servings so even with the small serving, I was still eating way too fast. At 5 months, began in earnest to change that habit. Set an old fashioned timer (the one with the avocado green dial and a big ringer) for 20 minutes, and the divided all of my food into thirds, to be eaten at 6-7 minute intervals. Sometimes I would space out and forget, and all of a sudden the food was gone. Finally, now at 10 months, I have my slow going on.... 98% of the time. Whew. Same thing on drinking Water with meals. Big bad habit. Now, never drink 25 before or 30 after, it is finally habit... Still trying to figure alcohol out. At 10 months, had my first beer last night, actually 1/2 beer, sipped. A 1/4 cup of wine sipped over 30 minutes is my normal. It goes right to my head.

Regained

You can eat around a lap band, you can eat around gastric bypass. It happens. Slider foods, sugary drinks, too many carbs and alcohol are just come of the things that can contribute to regaining weight. I assume since you are here posting, you don't like what's happen and want to fix it. So my questions are, when was the last time you went to the doctor and got a fill? How full are you and what size band? If you haven't been to the doctor in the past six months, GO. Fluid levels in bands can decrease slightly over time; bands can sometimes leak. Get it all checked out, get a fill ... and get to work.

Anyone Have Flare Up Of Gout?

My husband (and his family) have gout really badly. I can tell you if he touches red sauce, beef, grapefruit or alcohol he is in serious pain. I also know that his dad has a prescription from his doctor that seems to keep the gout at bay. Maybe that will help you? SoccerMamma73 is right about gout though... Water, water... and then more water is the best way to feel better fast. I hope you feel better soon!

Addiction Transfer - It might be real!

I have always loved to shop and now that I have lost weight and have had a face lift and have inherited money it became even more fun but I believe that I am finally hitting the wall with this particular recreation. I have recently been finding that although I still enjoy looking I am not too interested in buying anymore. :faint: Finally!!! :whoo:This is because I like the stuff I already have as much as or better than any of the stuff that I am seeing in the stores. My mate and I went out for lunch and a little recreational shopping yesterday - he likes to shop, too - and all I came home with was an arm load of books which were on sale. This was after looking at clothes, boots, bags, belts, etc. My husband bought himself some dark chocolate. We actually found ourselves whining to each other that everything looked the same and that there was nothing new to buy! :phanvan Dealing with alcohol has always been an issue for me. I am a depressive and we do tend to want to self-medicate whenever we are feeling lousy. :help:

Addiction Transfer - It might be real!

I agree, I have a friend who became an alcoholic after her rny. I think that is one of the many reasons why my doc stresses walking (or some other type of work out) daily. Wouldn't it be great if it was just as easy to focus that energy on something positive?

Cross addiction post op?

That's a lot of wine. The recommended amount of alcohol for women is 2 drinks or less per day (a 6 oz glass of wine would be an example of a drink). Lots of empty calories, too. A 6-oz glass is about 120 calories, so 3 glasses add up, plus there's zero nutritional value to those calories. I say, post-sleeve would be a great time to cut down on alcohol. You can't drink for a while after the surgery - this is surgeon-dependent, but I've seen guidelines that range from 1 month to 6 months of abstinence from alcohol - so it'd be a good time to kick the habit. You can have alcohol once you're all healed up. I've never been much of a drinker, so I can only speak to being able to have 1 drink without consequences. I usually have mixed drinks - I never liked wine much before, but now it makes me very nauseous after just 2-3 sips.

Acid stomach after drinking alcohol...

It is more likely that your body cranked out insulin in response to your eating and drinking the other night, triggering your body to want you to eat for the insulin to have "something to do". If you drop back to a high Protein, vegetables, no simple carbs, no alcohol, no fruit way of eating for a few days your hunger perception and cravings for more food will most likely disappear.

Divorce

My gastric sleeve was 11/7/16 and I wish nobody gets divorce after this surgery. I thought I would be one of the Lucky ones that wouldn't. That I had a supportive husband who loved me and would never do anything to jepordize Our relationship. After 5 years of being married luckily with no kids I'm on the verge of a divorce. Maybe you get more courage while losing weight and you value yourself more . But I realized that I can't let my husband treat me Any way he wants. He got drunk tonight on New Year's Eve and after 5 hours of spending time with his brother and niece I told him let's go to bed tell them good night ( at 5 am). It got him so mad that he brought up things from 6 years ago while we were dating and called me a whore. I got mad and called him an alcoholic like his dad who abandoned him and he got even more mad. I threatened him with divorce and he was about to leave then I realized I didn't want to throw everything away for him being drunk and begged him to stay. He pushed me against the wall, slapped me and would keep pushing me off. His strength beat me and he finally left and went with his drunk brother to his moms house. No matter what I realized I can't let any man treat me this way and even before he left I told him he would regret this.' But no matter what I can't forgive him. My mom has always told me never to let any man put his hands on me so no matter what I can't forgive him. I'm glad I have the confidence to know that I don't deserve this but it sucks that I'm a stastistic about to be divorced. Again it sucks and I hope nobody ever goes through this. But just know that this surgery can make a lot of things change and only God knows what's best for us and why things happen

My surgeon and dietician have both told me I need to stay away from alcohol. You have too remember the carbonation will expand your stomache.

Drinking to much

I'm sure you didn't stretch your stomach but I'm guessing you're referring to alcohol at 10 days out? All drs are different but did yours not give you guidelines for alcohol?

Religious Freedom vs Rights of the Public?

Another thought... are there that many people leaving the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport with crateloads of alcohol? That's my kind of airport!

Religious Freedom vs Rights of the Public?

I've been thinking about this issue for awhile and I have come to believe that it is more complicated than it may initially appear. Certainly Christians want to be assured of certain personal rights which have to do with their freedom to worship their God and those of us who are atheists are anxious that all civil rights be left free and clear of any infringement by any type of religious belief. In theory the answer should be simple: devout folks practice their beliefs privately when amongst themselves. Public places, such as schools, are left neutral; prayer, for example, is an activity that can be contained to church and home, as indeed can all references to God. Nevertheless, civilized western countries like to think that they are operating on rational and generous principles and that there is room for many different voices. I initially found the Muslim cabbies to be hypocritical in their stand on transporting passengers carrying alcohol. This was not because they were refusing the booze but because they were refusing to have their cabs carry some sort of identifying insignia - the different top light in this case - which would indicate to potential clients that their cars were dry cars. I still think that the logic in their reply to this suggestion is bizarre, and am surprised that the public's reaction to this tidy idea was negative. The only reason I can see for these cabbies being wary of being identifiable is that there is anti-Muslim sentiment which pervades much of Europe and America. Why buy further trouble, eh? What I would advise doing in this situation is kinda simple: Most of us call it lying. Repeat after Green: No sir, I do not carry alcohol with me.

Sticks and Stones...

I agree with that and I’ve been saying it for years that the overweight are pretty much the only group of people it’s still seen as acceptable to hate. Alcoholics, smokers, drug users, mentally ill and even more recently, bullies, are all accepted and given a free pass in some way but the minute being overweight is mentioned, suddenly you’re the worst person alive and it doesn’t matter what reasons you have for it, it isn’t viable. My brother is pretty thin but eats loads of unhealthy food and no one ever says anything to him about it. But put us side by side with a slice of pizza each and people would give me the disgusted looks. I’ve seen it many times before. That’s why I don’t buy into the “we’re only concerened about your health” line people come out with. It’s just an excuse most of the time.
18. Every insurance is different, and perhaps you have other co-morbitities that you haven't mentioned here, but usually if your BMI is under 40 they are expecting two or more other comorbidities (Non-Alcohol Fatty Liver Disease, Hypertension, Diabetes, Hyper Lipedimia, Sleep apnea, etc...)
19. I’m a 5 foot 11 inch tall 25 year old male who is scheduled for the gastric sleeve surgery on July 23rd. I had my consultation with the surgeon on February 22nd and he stated I do not need to lose any weight before surgery. My dietitian said the same thing and to continue the diet I have been on since December. I have lost 20 pounds in the last 3 months by changing my diet to much cleaner foods and walking my dog for roughly 30 minutes a day. I was 278lbs December 19th 2017 and now on April 2nd I weigh in at 258lbs. I cut out almost all carbs and artificial sweets in the morning and replaced them when egg white omelets with cut up vegetables and half a cup of oatmeal with honey and raisins. Lunch & dinner consist of vegetables, high protein beans/rice/lentils & lean meats. I try to stay away from sandwiches due to the bread and their favorite sidekick, chips. I have also cut down my dairy intake by about 90% and avoid pastas. I don’t have a sweet tooth so candy and soda consumption have never been an issue for me. I’m more of a greasy burger and cheesesteak with fry’s and ketchup kind of guy. My general practitioner believes this surgery is a bit extreme and unwarranted due to my age and state of health. I do not have diabetes, show signs of pre-diabetes, sleep apnea (never been tested), or constant high blood pressure for it to be an issue. My family background does consist of type 2 diabetes on my mother’s side as recent as my aunt. High blood pressure and cholesterol is evident on my father’s side as well but no diabetes. I have recently graduated from college and am no longer in that unhealthy atmosphere of drinking alcohol and poor eating choices. I want to cement a solid foundation from here on out to live a healthy and happy life and am looking for any advice on my situation with this surgery choice and/or any questions for me that I may have not asked myself. I appreciate your time reading this and hope to hear from anyone out there in regards to their thoughts or recommendations for me.
20. I know it is frustrating for me as well. It is difficult because i am pretty far away from my doctor so I have only been able to have 2 fills. I am going in for my 3rd but i am still not satisfied with restriction and want to be loosing weight more quickly. Sometimes I get really full and then other times not at all it is very inconsistent with me. Hopefully he will give me the answer this time but he said once you get to the spot where your fill is correct you should loose about a pound a week. SO you are on the right track with one pound a week! Keep going stick in there. My problem that I struggle with is drinking alcohol because I am 25 years old and it is such a social thing and I love drinking. But it is a waste of calories so I am going to try and allow myself once a month. We'll see how it goes!

23. Good lord I love this thread. I am a binge eater and a secret eater. If I picked up food for work or home, I always had something "extra" to eat in the car on the way back. If I had to stop at the drugstore, I got a candy bar and ate it before I got home. I'd sit in my car and eat lunch after driving through somewhere bc I didn't want anyone to see how much I ate. And when I'd get donuts on the way to work, I pretended that some of them were for my coworkers, but they were really all for me. It's such painful behavior and it's both humiliating and liberating to admit it. My BFF and I (both with troubled childhoods and difficult mothers) "joke" about our addiction by saying, "Well, lets just go eat a hug." I've always HATED myself for having no willpower and feeling powerless over food. I'm about 3 months out from surgery and my appetite is returning to a certain degree. It terrifies me. To date, I have not "cheated". I'm proud of myself for choosing well so far and I have an amazing DH and circle of friends cheering me on. I know I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm trying hard to deal with my addiction to food and it is like dancing with the devil. I come my a family of addicts and worry every day that I can't do this. I told my DH, "It's like telling an alcoholic, 'I know you can't handle alcohol, but you'll have to drink it every day of your life and it's up to you to make sure that you drink only this certain type of alcohol and only in moderation.'" It seems almost impossible! .

Alcohol during 2 week pre-op diet??

Just wondering what the rules are on alcohol during my 2 week pre-op diet are. I am going to a cookout and didn't know if it was ok to have a "drink". Any feedback would be GREAT!!

What happens after 46th

After the sleeve, I found that my tastes had changed. Basically, you stick to the rules your NUT gave you: Eat Protein first, then veggies. IF you have more room, it's OK to have carbs. Don't drink within an hour before or after a meal. Not a good idea to drink alcohol.
