The question should be "are you happy with your loss?". The weight loss happens so differently for everyone. I don't know how much you have to lose to get to goal so there's no way to calculate percentage of weight lost to give you that number. Pounds lost are so random. I started out heavier so I lost more pounds than you, but we could have the same percentage of weight lost. As for clothes sizes, I didn't drop sizes until I had lost about 50-60lbs.

I hope this is true. But for me it won't matter since the 3 long term care companies have all announced they are no longer accepting new enrollers after 12/31/11. I was holding off applying until the last possible date so my weight would be as low as possible since that was why I was rejected last year. So I called them all and asked after reading this thread and they all said my having had the surgery now "would be reason to deny". And, of course, any company I find next year I won't be able to afford because I will be 55. Glad this thread was posted. It was in the back of my mind but I guess it's just as good I know now.

I asked my Doctor again about anyone losing too much weight. He said it has never happened, but I am still paranoid! I will be 5 months out November 13th, and I am down 68 pounds so far. My doctor's goal is 180. My goal is 160. I am 5'10". I like where I am now at 223! I guess I am going to go to the weight my body wants to go to, but I am still freaking out. I always freak out on those days where I have a lot of restriction. Yesterday was pretty tight! I am only 43 pounds away from my Doctor's goal. That isn't very far away. I could be there by February. I guess I just don't want to be super skinny or sickly skinny. My butt is almost gone, and i had a huge butt!

So I'm happy with my weight loss but my hair is falling out all over the floor! Went to GNC today and they have the 5,000 Biotin capsules. Can I break them apart? Has anyone else done that? I know it won't help my hair loss but I'm hoping it will promote new growth. Thanks for any advice/replies.

makes me sad..

Sounds like an insecurity thing...before you all hid behind the same shadows and probably got the same kind of attention or lack thereof. Now that your body is changing, people are noticing you and commenting and when your friends are standing right there, I'm absolutely sure it makes them feel very self conscious. After all, they're not losing weight right? It's definitely something they need to work through and get over if your friendship is worth it to them. You're not doing anything wrong. Your success has simply changed the dynamic of the relationship because you no longer have the weight struggle in common. Keep being you and extending the olive branch and the rest is up to them! -
I am about a month out. And for the past couple weeks I haven't been losing much (if anything) which completely went to a stop and now I have gained a couple pounds. I am working out and tracking everything, but I wanted to know if anybody had any advice to give on how I could lose weight quicker (or actually at this point lose weight at all!) thanks so much

Hi There. Hoping someone could give me some insight. I am 5 weeks out, lost a ton up front and have stalled for the past 2.5 weeks and actually gained 5-7 lbs back, but this morning I woke up with very swollen ankles! I'm following the plan and so I'm quite frustrated. I have never had a swelling problem except for once for a few days following my third child. I'm also fairly healthy besides my wight issue. So I'm so curious as to what is happening with my body?! I have a Dr. appt tomorrow, so I will hopefully get some answers then too, but I wondered if this has happened to anyone else?

Congratulations on your weight loss! Sorry, I can't help on the other as I haven't gotten my sleeve yet. However, I'd check with your doctor.

I Need A Buddy Or Mentor Really Bad

An accountability partner is someone with whom you share your daily food & exercise plan, how well you've been following the plan, and any events or situations in your life that are affecting your weight loss or management. -

Funny because my bra seems tight too! I was thinking I can't wait to lose weight in my boobs! I wore stretchy pants today-much better! Belly is still tender though and all my bandages are still on. I look like a battered woman with the bruises from the IVs!! I bruise really easily! *Gordana - I use to have a classroom and I can't imagine going back 4 days post op! That's so sweet that the kids are concerned!

So today is one week for me. It's been a horrible week and because I'm struggling with all of the post-op Water gain I had, I am at that point of thinking what did I do to myself? Ugh, I know it'll be better. I just have this one annoying symptom that isn't letting up. Every night around 7pm, I spike a low grade temp. Somewhere between 99.4 and 100.0. Nothing to call the doc about, but enough that I can feel it. Tylenol usually stops it until the very next day around the same time. It's really annoying and it ruins my night. Not to mention that it's killing my sleep. Did anyone else experience this? As a nurse, I keep telling myself it's a result of the inflammation and I'm fine. As a patient, it's a little scary.

I am almost 8 weeks post op and my Dr told me not to worry about calories to just make sure I drank my 64 oz of water a day and make sure I get between 60 and 80 grams of protein a day. Well I have been able to do that but started tracking what I eat on a app on my phone and for the last 2 weeks I average between 700 and 800 calories a day and was wondering if that was either too many or not enough? I know some of you have to count your calories so I was just wondering what your Dr's suggested when it came to this. I am still losing weight although I have had 2 stalls but down almost 35 pounds since surgery.

Well, it is post op day three, and I want to thank everyone who gave me so much encouragement yesterday! I am feeling better today. Still sore, but much better than yesterday morning. I was able to drink an unsweetened ice tea last night at dinner time, and even sipped some apple juice when we got back to our room. I had my procedure done in Tijuana, Mexico, and we choose to stay in San Diego overnight before we flew home. (Have a six hour flight today, with a two hour lay over in Minneapolis, MN, then another hour long flight to Iowa, then a 45 minute drive home, so will be a LONG day.) Am sipping apple juice this morning, and plan to have a Protein drink before we leave for the airport. I am amazed that I haven't felt hungry at all since the surgery. Usually I am ALWAYS staarved. I can't wait to get home to get on a scale and see how much I have lost. I lost 20 pounds on the hated Pre-Op diet. I couldn't believe how the weight dropped off, BUT the diet was horrible. NO carbs. I really missed my potatoes, Pasta, breads, etc. I guess I better get used to it, cause I'm going to have to eat those things in real moderation in the future. I am so excited to get to the mushy foods stage, I can't wait! But today I am just going to concentrate on feeling thankful that I feel so much better today! Thanks again everybody who wrote to encourage me! Kathy [link=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wt7yUNu/] [image noborder]http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wt7yUNu/weight.png[/image]

So basically your 17 pound loss was in a single week? Awesome job! You should be proud of the progress you've already been making. Plus, I wouldn't discount the weight you lost pre-op. My ticker includes it. :-) I think about the weight that we gain from surgery from the IV fluids, and it makes me realize that you really did lose more than 17 pounds in that week since surgery. -

I'm not sure. Up until Wednesday I was being weighed by the hospital or my surgeon's office. I never felt like I had gained anything from the IV's but who knows. I was in the hospital from Friday morning to Saturday night. During that whole time I ate (HA!) broth once. Spent the rest of the time dry-heaving. Anesthesia sucks. Since I have been home I sip liquids and occasionally take in a puree. I tolerate just about all things well except corn. Used to like it. Used to LOVE it. Can't stand it now.... -
Trying To Keep Positive
Purdy in Pink replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, unfortuantly, this is a problem with many ppl who have lost a vast amount of weight, there are variables in how much your skin will go back to normal, age can play a factor, how long you've been overweight?, and how much weight you have lost. Althought excersize is awesome for you, and keep doing it, you need excersize to keep your bones strong as you lose the fat that's supporting your bones now. Sometimes the only alternative may be surgery to get rid of the excess skin. All depends on how you feel about it, and if you're embarrassed by the excess skin to a point of not wanting to expose those area's that are now sagging. I know surgery can be expensive.......and that's a choice only you can make...... my opinion, If I've done all I can do via excersize, and it's just not working....I'd go the extra $$ to give me the complete look I'm trying to acheive, and to feel confident in my looks when I m out in public. besides.....YOU DESERVE IT! YOU HAVE WORKED HARD FOR THIS! -
This Is Making Me Crazy

Accelerator, it is part of the whole biolean system (alot of natural weight loss herbs) my doctor uses it for all his non surgical patients, i tried just the biolean pills before we decided to do the band, but it made me feel like i was on diet pills to jittery and bitchy, taking just accelerator i feel no different .. we will see -
I'm being kicked off my insurance because it's my mothers (I'm currently unemployed) and I'm turning 23 August 7th since I am turning 23 the age where insurance no longer covers (which we didnt know until yesterday) On December 31st I will be taken off. Before we were told as long as my mother could have me on her taxes and I lived with her there would be no problem but there is. So today I called the insurance and talked to the lady I always talked to, she said if we had the doctor's office fax all my past history that I had and weight loss to them that they could possibly shorten my 6 month diet to where it wasn't so close and down to the wire in December. Well they faxed the information and She called back said within a week I should know if it can be shortened. I sure hope it can I don't want to get this far and have to end this whole journey. Wish me luck. I sure hope something works out.

7 months out...57lbs down..
reverie replied to Nicole74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I doubt it'll fix itself. Once the skin is stretched it's not going to go back perfectly or become "flat" no matter how much exercise you do. Try ab exercises and overall continue to lose weight, but I doubt your skin is gonna go back. I started at 245lbs, at 19, and mine hasn't budged so I'm all saved up for a tummy tuck. Good luck and congrats on your loss! -
What Do You Do For Energy?
PdxMan replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same issue. I spoke to my NUT and she told me to increase my carbs. I added cooked veggies and basically stopped worrying about my carb intake. It TOTALLY worked for me. About 2 days later I felt like I was *back*. We had 85% of our stomach removed. We will lose weight. Add some carbs back and see how your energy levels change. Can't hurt to try. -
First, and most importantly ... you are NOT, let me repeat that NOT ... a failure!!! You are less than two months out and you haven't had a fill so you are the same as you were before surgery (provided your doc did not put Fluid in during surgery, did he?). So, stop it, stop it now! You are healing. Give yourself a break, ok? This is a difficult time of year to start a "weight loss" anything. Seriously, as it has been written on the forum (and is so true), even thin people eat a lot during this season! But, I digress. Please remember that the band is a "tool" and at this moment your "tool" isn't even turned on. LOL While it is a really good idea to make efforts to change your eating habits before you reach proper restriction, not everyone is good at it. But, you should keep trying. When you miss the mark and fall down, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again. You are not expected to be perfect, but for your own sake you should try your best. Do more reading about the band and how it works. Did someone really tell you that you wouldn't be hungry anymore right after surgery, without a fill? Hmmmm, not true for most (but for a rare few, yes). Apparently, you -and I - are in that "not true for most" group. Remember, when you don't do what is best for YOU, you only let yourself down. No one else matters when it comes to weight loss. It's your health, it's your life, it's your future. Take a breath and give yourself credit for having lost 11 lbs without a fill. There is a wealth of information on this forum. Take what you can use and leave the rest. You can do this!!! All the best to you on your journey. ~Fran
