    November 2020 sleevers

Have my sleeve done November 10. Kind of struggling with this 2 week diet before.
  2. As you are all very much aware, I am sure, that a few major holidays are quickly coming upon us AND during a pandemic. So, what are you all planning or trying to do for these holidays? For me, it will be working at my job in Food Retail when I am scheduled and with Christmas Day off for EVERYONE; trying to see if I can use the Gift Card my employer gives us annually in November that can be used between November and February for a 10 - 14 pound Jennie - O Turkey can be used to buy groceries since that is way too much turkey for just two people that don't really eat that much because sometimes the corporate office forgets to on their end fix the Gift Cards to only allow the purchase of a turkey and I have been able to purchase some groceries with it; try to come up with some meal plans for two people that won't get me in trouble with my Sleeve or anything. Well, whatever your plans may be for the rest of 2020 I hope that you remember to Vote on November 3, 2020 and have a very safe and Happy Holidays.

Profile: Bariathlete. Body fat: 17.2%, down from pre-surgery measure of 59.4%. Starting weight: 292lbs. Surgery weight: 242lbs. Weight 21 weeks post-op: 151lbs. Weight 54 weeks post-op: 105lbs. Diet: 100% plant-based whole food diet. I eat all kinds of veggies both raw and cooked including starchy veg like potatoes and sweet potatoes, sprouts, herbs, all kinds of fruits usually raw, all beans and legumes, tofu and tempeh, seitan, whole heritage grains (such as sprouted brown rice, bulgur wheat, buckwheat, farro, barley, millet, quinoa, flaxseed, hempseed, chia seeds, cracked oats), nuts and seeds as well as nut and seed milks and butters, hummus, 100% stone ground whole wheat and rye bread, coffee and tea (limited. Limited processed foods such as stevia and pea milk. I don't count calories or carb-protein-fat ratios closely, but when actively training I have to eat for fuel and aim for 4,000 kcal/day @ roughly 65% carbohydrate, 13% protein, and 22% fat. The way I accomplish this is by eating 6-10 small meals per day. Pre-surgery workout (started 12 months pre-op): Worked up to 30-45 mins daily cardio. Light weight training 2-3x per week. When I first started, I could only walk 2-3 blocks before needing to rest and catch my breath. Post-surgery workout (started 8 weeks post-op): 1.5-2hrs daily cardio (running, swimming, cycling, rowing). Weight training 4 days per week. Post-surgery, I completed my first full marathon (solo due to 2020 covid-19 pandemic) in 4:48:02 and three sprint triathlons. Currently training toward competing in the next full Ironman, which will hopefully be held in 2021.

  7. I think I’m one of the unusual ones as I eat a lot now & eat all day but my metabolism is seriously working over time. Some days I have to make myself eat cause I’m just not hungry so I try to be very routine in what & when I eat. I can lose 500g if I miss a meal or snack over two days. It took me a few months slowly adding food until I where I am now. My doctors have been wanting me to put on a couple of kgs since January but I haven’t been able to. I’ve actually lost about another 4.5kg in that time. (Told to eat more again by doctor last week - don’t know how I can physically do so.) And I don’t exercise - can’t afford to burn the calories. 8:30 - 1 sachet rolled oats + about 200ml lactose free milk + 15 blueberries (10g protein) 11:30 - 300ml green tea + 6 vita weat multigrain crackers with liverwurst (eat over 60-90 mins) (5g protein) 1:30 - string cheese (5g protein) 3pm - 2 cups salad - combination of lettuce, cucumber, pickled onion, 50g chicken or 100g prawns + dressing (eat over an hour) (10-15g protein) 5pm - 160g tub yo pro yogurt 15g protein) 6:30 - about 80g meat (beef, lamb, pork, seafood) & half cup vegetables (mix of beans, sugar snap peas, asparagus, broccolini or cauliflower). (15g protein) 8pm - fruit (rockmelon, grapes, red paw paw) or 1/3 cup chia pudding (made on milk, milk powder & vanilla extract) or protein bar (10g protein) Seems a crazy amount I know but one day my metabolism will slow again & I’ll have to drop the snacks. Hey Jaelzion how are you getting in that much protein with what you eat? I only get in about 60g.

    I'm Hungry are You?

Good to hear the hunger got better for you! I'm also on Day 5 and still hungry but towing the line! Someone on this forum commented to another person who was struggling that 'we all went through it and you can too!' I keep that encouragement in mind. I have chronic migraines and have had one since Day 1. Fortunately I had already given up my much loved Coke Zero and gotten through that or it may be worse. I'm so grateful that I only have 10 days to get through !! My surgery is November 4th so almost there!😃 Wishing you much success!

I had my 10/26 too. How's it going for you? So far I've completely dodged the gas pains.

    November 2020 sleevers

I'm allowed food on my 10 day, but probably not what I had tonight. Dang it, I wanted to eat with my family ON MY BIRTHDAY. I'm still at under 600 calories for the whole day, so I didn't blow it too bad. My family was having chicken with G Hughes sugar free BBQ Sauce, bacon, and cheese, with au gratin potatoes. I passed on the potatoes, had 4 oz chicken with a spoonful of the sauce, maybe 1/4 slice of bacon, and reduced fat cheese. Came out to 270 calories. They had more, obviously... it was really nice to eat with them (other than the potatoes), though [emoji3531] I hope everyone is doing well... I had my covid test earlier today. Hope everything is good there. Anyone else have to record their temperature for 10 days before?
  11. How are you guys doing so far? We are almost at a year and I want to see your progress and how your journey has been. A year out and we made it!!

    Anyone for October 2020?

Hey everyone- I had my VSG on 10/14 so I'm about 2ish+ weeks out from surgery. It's been good, overall. My pros are: not too much pain, clean and healing incisions, able to walk and move around, and able to (virtual) work. My cons are: lots of air getting caught in my chest (can be painful, but more annoying than anything else), no appetite/desire to drink, and it's been hard to drink water specifically. The only lasting annoyance has been the air in chest. I have never naturally burped (never learned or weird anatomy) so it's been hard to get the air out through burping. I've been taking Prilosec and Pepto to help because it's interfering with eating and drinking.
  13. The holiday season always comes up faster than expected. That is even true this year when so many other things have been different. It is time to start thinking about gifts for the people you love. If they include bariatric surgery patients who are pre or post-op, we have the perfect gifts for you. First up are something your loved one is sure to love: favorite desserts. If they are missing creamy, starchy, sugary foods, you can be the one to give them their faves without guilt. Here are just a few favorite desserts you can gift this year! Gingerbread Cake Mix Nothing says, “Happy Holidays!” like gingerbread, but can your bariatric surgery friend really afford to be eating gingerbread this year? Yes, she certainly can if you give her a high-protein, low-carb version such as BariatricPal Gingerbread Mug Cake Mix. It has 130 calories, 12 grams of protein, and 1 gram of sugar. Even better than giving ready-made gingerbread cake or cookies, giving Gingerbread Cake Mix lets the recipient make it herself, which means the delicious smell of cinnamon and ginger can waft through the house. It is easy to make just by mixing a packet with water and microwaving it. Each box contains 7 packets. Creamy Cheesecake Cheesecake is not the standard choice for a smart dieter, but BariatricPal High Protein Creamy Cheesecake is no standard cheesecake. It has about half the calories, saturated fat, and sugar as the same size serving of regular cheesecake, along with 12 grams of protein to make it more filling. If cheesecake isn’t cheesecake without the graham cracker crust, you can easily make your own without adding the 20 grams of carbs per serving that a traditional one has. Just crush sugar-free Catalina Crunch Keto Cereal - Honey Graham instead of graham crackers to use in the crust. Each serving has 10 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber. You can make an entire cheesecake using 7 servings of Creamy Cheesecake mix, or make your cheesecake in muffin cups for single servings. Each box has 7 servings. Pumpkin Spice Blondie A bariatric surgery patient could feel a little down after an entire autumn of passing up pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin lattes, and pumpkin muffins. How about giving a gift of a pumpkin dessert that comes without guilt? Eat Me Guilt Free Pumpkin Spice Blondie knocks the socks off the competition in taste and nutrition. The entire blondie has only 170 calories and 4 grams of sugar, or 90% less sugar than a slice of pumpkin bread from a bakery-cafe. With 22 grams of protein, it has as much protein as chicken and can be eaten for a meal, snack, or dessert. They come in single and 3, 6, and 12-packs. There is no shortage of desserts that are suitable gifts for bariatric patients and anyone else who is on a weight loss journey. By the way, remember that your favorite bariatric surgery patient can be...yourself! Go right ahead and give yourself the gift of weight loss and pleasure all in one with your favorite low-carb desserts!

  15. Good to know I'm not the only one! I rarely eat a real meal either. I eat mini-meals throughout the day. It generally looks something like this: 1. 6 AM: Morning latte (made with Kitu Super Coffee, no sugar) 2. 8 AM: 1 scrambled egg 3. 10 AM: Yogurt 4. 12 PM: 1 Chicken thigh 5. 3 PM: Sugar-free pudding 6. 7 PM: handful of almonds 8. Nighttime snack: Cheese stick It usually amounts to about 800-900 calories and 60-75g of protein. In order to hit my protein goal, everything I eat practically has protein in it. I don't restrict calories, but I do try to keep carbs low.
  16. I had lap band surgery about 10 years ago and I posted everything. Long story short band slipped twice and had to be removed a year ago. i have opted for gastric bypass for a number of reasons but I have let very few people know this time and haven’t posted anything on social media. This is why. when I had my first surgery I was thrilled, it worked, I worked hard and lost about 100 pounds. Everyone wanted to talk about it. And then my band slipped and I gained every pound back. And then I had the band repaired and I dropped 100 again. And then it slipped again and I did nothing about it until my weight crept back to my original weight over a 4 year period. I was not prepared to have to explain my story over and over including my failures. I also found that even though I was not in a huge body anymore, I still felt every bit as fat as I had when I weighed the most. I needed to process not being a fat girl anymore and I found I didn’t share the same excitement as everyone else. I never got any bullying or negative comments, even after I failed and people who love you will be over the moon at your progress. For me, it’s a choice to not have the super personal conversations over and over with people that aren’t in my inner circle. And to be honest, I am my own worst critic and every goal I don’t accomplish doesn’t need explanation to people I went to high school with. But that’s just me. I’m more selective about what I share now than I was 12 years ago. this time I started an art journal as part of the Brooklyn art project. It goes to a library I. New York anonymously. I can get my story out on my own terms.

Day 7/10 of the pre-op diet, and I'm cranky af. I have no idea why my mood has deteriorated this much, but... I should not be around humans. I hope tomorrow isn't like this, too.

    Any October Sleevers?

I had my surgery on 10/27/20. Spent the night in the hospital and came home yesterday afternoon. Other that being stiff and sore there hasn't been much pain. Tylenol is plenty. They sent me home with oxycodone but I am super sensitive to narcotics and prefer not to take them unless it is "have to" situation. Many have caused vomiting and who has time for that kind of nonsense? Dr. Hu said my surgery went well with no complications. But let me tell you what, folks, post op nausea in NO JOKE. I never did throw up but lawd I wanted to so bad! They were rotating through 3 different anti-emetics plus I had a scopolamine patch behind my ear and the nausea wouldn't let up. Once they got that under control it's been so much better. They sent me home with Zofran and Reglan but I haven't needed them so far. It is surprising how long it takes to drink 4oz of liquid! And you have to be careful because you're going along, sip, sip, sip, and then BAM! You feel like you're going to vomit. Then about 15-20 minutes later you can resume...sip, sip, sip. I hope everyone is well. Sending all kinds of good vibes your way!
  20. My surgery was scheduled for 10/27. The day before, I was notified that my pre-op physical disclosed a left bundle branch defect in my heart and, though I had an echocardiogram that seemed encouraging, they wanted to cancel until I complete a cardiac stress test. I was devastated as I was all ready to go within about 18 hours. I can't complete my stress test until 11/9 and now COVID-19 threatens to cancel elective surgeries again. I'm feeling pretty defeated. Anyone else have similar postponement or cancelations? Did it work out for you or are you still on the path? Did you give up?
  21. Hi all, I'm scheduled for sleeve on 11/18. I'm 5'6" and now 213lbs before my pre op diet in the next 2 weeks. I was 231 starting in May. If I loose 10 lbs on pre op liquid diet I'll be 203. I figure 50 more lbs may be doable on my own. Is this just nerves or is it not enuf lbs to have surgery! Help
