Ann_Marie replied to Ann_Marie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My post surgery diet is clear liquids day 1 & 2. And day 3 &4 full liquids. So today I am on full liquids. I took my painmeds this morning with my Protein drink this morning. yesterday was the day I ate crackers. I didn't have any problems. I chewed them until they were mush. Since I am now on full liquids I can eat yogurt, pudding, oatmeal..... Why does it sound like everyone has a longer clear liquid diet??? -
Post-Op Protein Question
sophiamckenna replied to alexd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like to add more water to mine. I try to stay away from the yogurts because of sugar content. Try the nectar brand of protein. U can call 1866 333 7403 for a sample pack from them. I low them because they r not think and u can add as much water to taste. Hope this helps. -

Help, 4 Days Out And Hungry! Voices Of Experience Needed Please!
jenni_867 replied to Believinginlisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep head hunger. Eat sf popsicles. It will help with your fluid intake, but yet you'll feel like you're eating something. BTW, i can't believe you can even eat anything other than clears! I know all doctors have different diets, but my tummy wouldn't even allow me to hardly try jello. If i would've tried greek yogurt, i know it wouldn't have stayed down. Don't force yourself to eat if you can't. Concentrate on your fluids right now. -
Restriction Question
elcee replied to justinsmami91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is normal. Some foods are difficult to eat and will fill you up really quickly e.g solid Protein such as meat/chicken. Other foods go down really easily so it takes lots to fill you up. They are called slider foods and you should try to avaoid them. They include crisps, chocolate, icecream, Desserts etc. Some sliders are OK in small quantities as they provide imprtant nutrients e.g yogurt. I am not surprised you got stuck on a hard boiled egg. I have always found them dry and really difficult to eat even preband. The thing is to always eat slowly, small bites and chew really well. If you do get stuck stop eating and don't try to drink as it makes it worse. I generally try to burp or cough the stuck item up as when it comes up you get relief. Some people guzzle a fizzy drink really quickly. Apparently this unblocks you and brings iit up really fast so only do it near a toilet or sink!Others swear by papaya enzymes but for me they do nothing. In time you will figure out what works for you. Also the optimum level of fill to achieve restriction is different for everyone. Some people have 10 cc bands with only 1 or 2cc and they are restricted. Others have overfilled bands. As for the scale............ I still jump on it EVERY morning! -
1 Day Of Mushies = 1.5 Lbs Gained :(
honk replied to diamante's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree you probably didn't gain 1 1/2 pounds of fat. However potato is a bad choice. My doctor said to choose high protein mushies low fat cottage or ricotta cheese, greek yogurt (use splendra to taste as it is very sour). Week two I could have canned chicken and tuna mixed with low fat laughing cow cheese. -
I had surgery the same date, and while I haven't tried Pasta, I have had a couple of bites of Beans, and about a quarter of a piece of chicken breast. The liquid stage that my doctor has me on is so long, and I see so many other sleeve diet plans that allow gradual progressions of foods after only two weeks. Today so far I have had yogurt, chicken broth, and four spoon full of refried beans with cheese. The beans are not supposed to be for another five days, but so far so good.

Regret to REJOICE! Newbies listen up :-)
Texasmeg replied to BabySheldon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan is so different. I can only have liquids, pudding, yogurt, soup broth, oatmeal or malt-o-meal until 5 weeks an 3 days. After that - anything with introducing is slowly and chewing a lot. I am on week 3 and sick of liquids. Nice to know things can go so well, though! -
Everything tastes gross! Help!
notmyname replied to HoneyBeBrave's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc says that of something doesn't work for you, try it again in a couple of months. I wouldn't force yourself to eat stuff you can't stand. Some things that have worked for me: Ricotta bake (google eggface's ricotta bake). Pureed black beans with a bit of cheese Lentils Homemade cocoa (1c fairlife fat free milk, 1TBL unsweetened cocoa, 1 packet stevia) eggs white fish yogurt - no sugar added (maybe try different flavors to cut up the monotony) - I like Oikos tripple zero and Chobani Good luck - I'm sorry you're going through this. -
Im glad you had a treat. You should be able to have a treat occasionally. My friends who are naturally thin eaters do this and remain thin. The principal I have developed for myself is if I really crave it try a small serving, then observe the consequences. If a small serving satisfies the craving I put it in my rare treat category. But if I notice that the next day or so I'm really craving starchy sugary foods then I know it's not for me. For example I tried adding a little granola to my greek yogurt a few times and my cravings went through the roof. For me granola is a gateway carb. But a high quality dark chocolate truffle or 2 will hold me a month or more till the craving crops up again so I allow myself those once a month. We are all different, but I find variety and staying away from deprivation important for long term success. I'm just really grateful you feel up to eating a pop tart!!! Take care!

"Change Your Relationship With Food" ..but how!?!
Bobby46 replied to MrsMurky721's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're right...you have to eat to live. Changing your relationship with food just means to not "use" it. I used "comfort" foods for that purpose...comfort. I would rush to food every time I felt sad or overwhelmed....now I sit down and breath and find something else to do. It is a process. Of course I whined at first because I didn't have my go-to for comfort. But now I realize it was just a crutch. I take walks now or I do something with my hands...like crochet. Or I read or clean or call a friend. You have to change your food choices as part of that "relationship with food" thing. You have to choose healthy foods first and always. Period. You need healthy food to live....you don't need processed foods and Cookies. I actually crave vegetables now. I crave yogurt and fruit. Amazing! I have a house full of cookies and candy right now for Christmas....even have brownies!....my favorite!!!! But I can easily say no to them. My food tastes have changed. I'm stronger now. You will get there. It will take time, but it will come. -

1 Weak Out - Dehydrated, Getting Hardly Any Protein And Starving
Memily replied to PinkBubble's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Split pea soup with some chicken Unjury is good blended to liquefy, Vanilla whey I added to fruit sugar free jello and puddings. I also got frozen greek yogurt bars to have a sweet treat of protein. You will get there, I wake up drinking a half a serving of Powerade Zero and then carry a water bottle with me literally everywhere. You can do it! -
What are your favorite Quest Nutrition products?
ls27 replied to foreversleeved08's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just bought the vanilla Quest Protein powder and it's amazing. I hate vanilla ! I wanted something to mix my fruits with. This is it. I've tried ever brand. 1 scoop quest vanilla Decaf coffee 6 oz Ice Torani sf vanilla cinnamon Tastes better than any frap! Quest bars. I have like 1/4 - 1/2 every night. I cut them into 8 pieces and bake them on 350 for 6-8 minutes. I like them crunchy like a cookie. And then I put some nuts n more brand pb on top. Amazing protein snack! I recently tried the b-up brand Protein Bars. They are more expensive than quest. I got sugar cookie and cinnamon bun. Amazing!!!!! It's a great snack to satisfy a sweet tooth which I do have. I had 1/4 of a bar mixed with key lime greek yogurt. Awesome!!!!! -
Your stomach is still numb from having had nerves cut. Even though yogurt is soft, you don't want to irritate things by going too quickly. Try to eat half the yogurt, then eat the other half a couple hours later. The v8 should be fine since it is a liquid. Going slow and easy now will pay dividends later.

Advice please. Today was my first day home, after 2 nights in hospital, it's bedtime here now. Today I have managed quite a lot of water, a cup of tea, quarter cup of tomato soup and a yogurt. Am I pushing it too much? I'm on full liquids for 2-4 weeks. I feel rubbish but I think that's a combination of migraine, sore incisions and gas. What should I be doing at this stage? Thanks

Can I increase my protein this way?
OutsideMatchInside replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think there is a limit to how much protein the body can absorb, there is a limit to how much it needs for muscle repair. The rest goes into energy. http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/health-fitness/healthy-eating/know-your-nutrients/how-much-protein-can-the-body-absorb @@reachbree - I still mix some unflavored in my flavored mix. That is just personal taste. I also add a little unflavored to my yogurt. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery website says... Q: Can I take all of the protein in one dose? A: Protein should be taken in multiple doses, across multiple meals or healthy Snacks. The body cannot absorb more than approximately 30 grams at once. Also, protein is a nutrient that helps us feel fuller, longer. If we try to include Proteins in each of our meals or healthy snacks, we’re less likely to feel hungry when it’s not time to eat. https://asmbs.org/patients/life-after-bariatric-surgery My Dr made very clear that the body can only absorb so much at one time. There is a reason we take Vitamins apart, not just because some of them interact badly with each other. -
I'm a fan of Unjury, but I don't think I'd try to put it in Crystal Light. I tried the jello recipe on the Unjury site and it's tolerable, but I don't think I'd stand in line for it. Unflavored Unjury is best when mixed with milk-based products. I put a tablespoon or so in my greek yogurt to get an extra protein kick. If you're looking for something clear, Premier Protein makes clear protein supplement drinks. I haven't tried them, but others on this site speak highly of them. I bought the Isopure from GNC but they leave a weird dry-feeling in my mouth that I just can't tolerate. For me, if I'm tired of milk based protein supplements, I keep Unjury Chicken flavored on hand. I like it because it's a nice change from the sweetness of most protein shakes and it is warm/soothing. Warning: it is high in sodium.

Meal guidance sought from those non-newbies
emjay replied to MollyRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on getting your band! As far as a daily diet - it goes something like this. Morning - Protein shake (210 calories, skim milk with scoop of choc. unjury powder) lunch - 3-4 oz cottage cheese, 1/2 sandwich (toasted) or 3-4 oz of meat/chicken/fish with or w/o cheese Mid-afternoon snack - 6 oz yogurt w/homemade granola (Kashi Cereal, choc. chips, brickle bits, peanuts, pecans) Supper - 4 oz fish or chicken or red meat, pc of fruit or veggies (3 oz), piece of cheese (my vice) Evening - Protein Shake (unflavored Unjury with Crystal Light lemonade) I'm not big on fruits and especially not veggies (at least the green ones), but I try and get some in when I can. This is a good day for me. I usually aim for around 1500 calories a day and exercise 5-6x/week for at least 30 minutes. I concentrate on getting enough protein, watching my fat intake and avoid refined carbs if I can. However, if I do want a snack I keep flavored rice cakes, or the 100 calorie snack packs or 100 calories popcorn bags in the house so at least I won't go apesh*t and grab the ice cream! -

I come to you for advice/suggestions ...
MaineJackie replied to Phranp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI, I totally get what you mean about not being able to eat at breakast......I usually have a Protein shake....primarily because I don't have a lot of time. My days are long and quite variable. Some times unpredictable too. I wonder if your calories are too low? Each person is different and you might have to mix it up a bit. I aim for 900/day....some days are less, some days are more....but pretty much never above 1200. I have a Protein Shake for Breakfast, a greek yogurt mid morning, a protein packed lunch (my favorite right now---perdue chicken short custs, a cheese stick cut up into pieces, grape tomatoes cut in half and some low calorie honey mustard dressing), I have a mid afternoon snack (depending on the day it may be a Kashi bar or a serving of almonds) then a protein packed dinner. If I am hungry, I try to get my fruit in as an evening snack. Jackie -
It depends on my mood....usually, I don't eat after my bedtime protein shake, but tonight, I was snacky, so I had 5 Low Fat Ritz crackers with tuna...I am 2.5 months out, and that fills me up! Tuna is a great source of protein, and a yummy snack. You could also try, clementines, sugar free pudding/jello, ff cottage cheese, string cheese,or yogurt.

Confused, Scared, Anxious & Nervous
Anniepie10 replied to susie77453's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The first thing to do is find a surgeon and talk to him/her. I was sleeed 9 April 2012. I am so very happy with the result. I have lost 33 pounds. True, you can't eat a lot at a time, but if you follow the rules-protein and water first- then you will be fine. I have to remember to eat. I drink water all the time. I am not eating everything yet-see my surgeon next week and then will step up a notch. But I am presently very content with soft foods. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. A lot of things didn't taste right, but this is normal. I loved chicken before surgery and when they said I could have it again, I didn't like it.But now I like the taste. I don't crave anything. I am determined to make this work. The sleeve is safer than gastric bypass and you have been through the lap band. I was back to work after 5 weeks. I did 1/2 days the 6th week, but now I am full speed ahead.I have had to cut my blood pressure meds in half and don't need my CPAP any more. It is amazing. The sleeve is self-restricting. You eat small amounts and you are full. At least for me. Four-six ounces of yogurt is all I can eat at a time. But I try to eat a little every couple hours.. The way I look now makes me smile and I follow the rules as it make me happy. My clothes don't hurt! I didn't tell many people. More know now, but I have kept it pretty quiet. Some people tell everyone. It is a very personal thing. Get to a surgeon and talk this out. You will find your way. Good luck! -
9 days out from surgery, energy level at rock bottom!
Kris replied to Kris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Cinderella, I think you are right that I wasn't getting enough Protein. I had my husband pick up a container of pho (vietnamese soup) broth for me yesterday and drank it all, and today when I woke up I was feeling better. Tomorrow I go on full liquids which includes Protein Drinks made with milk/soy milk and I think that will help too -- I have unjury chocolate splendor and vanilla to try out. Also trying yogurt starting tomorrow, so my protein grams are going to go way up compared to what they have been.
