For Those at Least 8 Weeks Out - How Much Food is Your Sleeve Holding?
stacyrg1 replied to Pea523's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 20 months out now so my capacity is greater. However looking back at my food logs at 8 weeks I was eating 90% protein. Protein shakes, 2 oz beef, 2-2.5 oz chicken, 3 oz fish or shrimp, Greek yogurt (the majority of a 5.3 oz container), beans, etc. on the rare occasion I had room, I would add in some softer veggies like broccoli or cauliflower. At that point for breakfast I was eating protein shakes and lunches were usually egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, etc. 2-2.5 oz. Hope that helps -

Pushing It?
Chelle68 replied to lisa.mccroskey@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did stick with the plan but I did have a few bites of mac salad and added parmesan cheese to my greek yogurt. Nothing major but now in my 5th week can't even take in more than 1/4 cup of mushies at a time. Guessing from other posts that the more you heal the more you feel the restriction. -
Pushing It?
Threetimesacharm replied to lisa.mccroskey@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think at this point you should still be on full liquids, don't push it take it easy you are in this for the long haul. Protein shakes yogurt thinned creamy soups strained sf pudding sf jello soupy cream of wheat You will have the rest of your life to eat, let your stomach heal and be good to it. -
I work 7a-7p now as a travel nurse. But I've worked 7p-7a before also. I would wake up at 5pm and get ready and head to work by 5:30....drink a protein shake on the way. I like premier protein, it has 30grams and comes in handy pre made boxes. I then eat about every 3 hours. A Greek yogurt, cheese stick, protein shake. I drink a protein shake on my way home from work. It ends up being around 500-600 calories. Then sleep. But I'm one of those weird people who has no hunger ever. I keep a water bottle wherever I'm chatting and can get two-three down in a shift. I'll drink another before I fall asleep once I get home. Hope this helps

I eat yogurt daily and it regulates my bowel movement. If I'm feeling constipated, I double my daily yogurt intake. I remembered I was constipated on the first week though. The doctor advised me to buy Dulcolax. It does get better though.

I'm a little irritated with Kroger - I need help
Oregondaisy replied to Pinky Green's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt has 80 calories and 8 grams of carbs There is a yoplait one that is 100 calories and 9 carbs By the way, Aspertame turns into formaldahydye. People should google why it's bad stuff -
Have to start using protein powder a couple times a day by drinking or adding to yogurt. Does anyone have any favorites? That can be purchased at a store not on line.

here is something I like that my mom makes... * Marinate chicken cubes in some yogurt, curry powder (I actually use garam masala.. but curry powder is a good substitute), salt (and some lime juice if you like) for about 20 minutes.. (my mom marinates a batch and freezes it..) * the marinade will have to cover the chicken fully.. * saute some chopped onions (1 part onions for 2 parts chicken) with a little oil (or a pam greased pan).. (you can also add some green peppers if you like them) * once the onions are translucent.. add the chicken, and cover the pan over a medium/low flame.. with an ocational stir.. and chicken should be ccooked in about 15 minutes.. * I add some green peas once the chicken is almost cooked.. let me know if you like it.. i can note down more from my mom.. edit... the marinade also needs some ginger and garlic paste..

For Those at Least 8 Weeks Out - How Much Food is Your Sleeve Holding?
cbrr replied to Pea523's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 weeks out and I'm eating a Protein shake with a banana blended in for breakfast, about a 1/3cup of some kind of protein for lunch, and the same for dinner. I'll usually have an 80 cal yogurt for a snack or maybe some pieces of cheese. I've just started trying to get in some veggies like green Beans or broccoli. I also put some cheese on top of my chicken or whatever to add more protein. I have some low fat swiss that's carb free and only 50 cals. Something else I've been doing is broth with powdered Gelatin in it. That's 10 more grams of protein and 50cals. What I'm wondering is....how many calories were people consuming at this point out? I average about 780/day. I also am not losing weight. I went up a pound last week then finally lost that today but it's been stalled at 243 for about 1 1/2 week. Argggh! Also, sorry to post this in here but I haven't figured out how to start a thread and ask these questions. -

It's the chewing slowly that's killing me. I fight w myself. I give myself a good cussing out to stick to this new habit. 😲 I'm dedicated & it's really a mental adjustment. So for everyone who's gone through this and just starting .... good luck!! I'm right behind y'all (fingers crossed) Any suggestions on CHEWABLE VITAMINS? Pre & Post. -
Soft food ideas

Just be careful. I LOVED liver cheese pre-op. Post-op it is a bit fatty for me. I don't specifically limit fatty foods but have found that foods with a higher fat content are not as appetizing as they once were and can make me a little woozie. Just go slow and see how well you handle it.If I recall, livercheese is by Oscar Mayer, right? Square piece with white fat around the edge? What I purchased is nothing like that. These are the ingredients: Ingredients: beef, beef liver, beef kidneys, beef heart, Water, sea salt, onion powder, white pepper, coriander, marjoram, all spice beefliverwurst12406.jpg With that being said, I absolutely plan on taking it slow, my new stomach may or may not like it. Was just excited to realize there is something else I can try during that stage that is healthy. Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App That isn't a lot of protein. You may want to try to find things with a bigger protein punch. I lived on/live on Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. -
Beware.....scolding in progress. Here's the thing, you just had major surgery on your stomach. No matter how bad the head hunger is, do you really think eating chocolate at all is wise a few days after surgery? I am guessing your answer is no or you would not be on here in scared mode. Honestly you should be scared. You should pick up the phone and immediately call your therapist. Having WLS is 90% head, 10% if that surgery. You can eat around your surgery from day one. and if you do, why bother going through all the pre work and pain? That is called self destruction and you need to get a handle on it now. For me, sugars cravings have never gone away. I have had to learn to deal with this. Sometimes you give in and have something but never ever just when you get home from the hospital. Lastly I would say that baby food does not have the nutrition that homemade prepared purees have. Not to mention they taste like crap unless you are eating all the fruits which have carbs in them. Why not simply make some of your own purees, eat greek yogurt, cottage cheese, Protein shakes, ricotta bake. There are a ton of bariatric friendly pureed stage options available on pinterest. I really wish you the best but you are definately going to need some help to get your head hunger under control. When those cravings come up the best thing you can do is try to get your mind off of it. Firstly, you cannot possibly be feeling real hunger at this stage. Dehydration mimics hunger for us. So if you feel it keep sipping your approved liquids until that feeling goes away. If you have met your liquid goals and still feel that way, you are likely feeling some reflux if you are a sleeve patient. If not those two things it is definately head hunger and you need some coping mechanisms. I use distraction techniques....go wash dishes, do some laundry, take a shower, do something with your hands like crafts - knitting, crocheting....etc. get your mind off of food. Lastly do NOT watch food porn shows or commercials, they can make head hunger terrible. Go see a therapist they will provide lost of techniques and get at the bottom of why you are already self sabotaging.

Congrats on moving up! Rule is protein first, veggies, etc. if you have room. And this early, they're really not worried about the quantities of stuff, they just want your stomach to get used to the new textures to see if you can handle them. Most of your nourishment should still be coming from liquids/yogurt, etc.

Protein shake, can't stand it!

I've been loving my Unjury protein. I found the best price at Amazon.com I like the chocolate mixed with skim milk or plain yogurt. I also am adding the unflavored to most everything. Try it, it's good. -
4 Days After Surgery And I Feel Like I'm Starving To Death!
Katie713 replied to ginajet77's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
As a Kaiser patient the surgeon and nutritionist had me on clears for 3 days only and then onto full liquids for the next 12 days, then transitioned to pureed/soft diet. Full liquids include thinned hot cereals, creamy soup, yogurt, sugar free puddings and regular protein shakes. This helps ALOT. Perhaps this might be an option for you...many of us use this time line with no ill effects. Good Luck! -
I couldn't finish muscle milk til 5 days post op & it still took hours. They are very think. I have a fridge full of different varieties but I'm so protein shaked out. I need something else. I'm gonna try making my own with the powder, yogurt& fruit& see what happens.

Help with crushing meds into food/liquid
smiley922 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having to crush three pills, one antibiotic, hctz and amlodipine and add to food/drink. tried yogurt, not gonna work, tried crystal light, equally nauseating. Any suggestions? At this point I am at a loss and would rather just not take them. -
@@dlappjr, Nutritionally, you can speed muscle recovery and glycogen (fuel) replenishment if you take in some nutrients within 15 to 60 minutes after finishing your workout. The goal is 4 grams of carbs for every gram of Protein. If it’s just a snack, you can aim for about 10 grams of protein plus 40 grams of carbs. For a meal, you can go for about 80 grams of carbs and 20 grams of protein. You could have Peanut Butter and whole grain toast, or whole grain cereal/oatmeal with milk, or a shake with Protein powder and fruit, or a sweet potato and Greek yogurt… As for the actual workouts: if you’re super sore, it could mean you worked super hard. Soreness peaks at 48 hours (2 days) post workout, so if you’re aiming to work the same muscles two days later, you’re probably still going to be sore. What you could do is switch up the muscle groups and workouts, so you’re not hitting the same muscles as hard until they’ve recovered more. You could also do cardio on your off days to get the blood flowing (and burn calories). Another thought is that you could be overtraining. If you’re really that sore, maybe your body just isn’t used to those kinds of workouts yet. That would mean either be patient until your body gets used to them (like take the extra day of recovery if you need it), or scale back on the workouts until your body is ready to hit it that hard without needing so much recovery. Anyway, good for you for working so hard! You will see great results if you keep it up!

Hi,maybe just change what you eat a bit.A liitle less cottage cheese,a bit of greek yogurt, some nice liquidized soup.just like with any diet variety is really neccessary. And just maybe add a day or 2 with more complex carbs...just to shake it up more..keep it up though.Doing the right thing will be rewarded with weight loss

How Many People Eat How Their Nutritionists Want?
Newfoundlove replied to pandabear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with gmanbat - I've never heard of a NUT that is against Protein shakes! That being said, pre-op, she didn't want me doing Protein shakes, instead I was on a very low-carb diet (no more than 40 grams a day). So, I didn't eat yogurt or fruit because of the carb content. My NUT didn't care about calories, only carbs. But, I did eat lots of salads, meats, and cheeses. Stayed away from rice, potatoes, etc. My pre-op diet was for two weeks, but I did three and I lost 14 pounds during that three weeks. Now, post-op, I do eat fruit. In fact, once I was cleared for it, I added apples, etc., because I was having constipation which was no fun. I also added in some oatmeal occasionally for breakfast as that helped the stopped up problem as well. -
Not feeling full or even hungry

Thanks for the jello suggestion. I'll try a little Fage yogurt today. -
Fuzzy navel is my favorite, followed by double stuffed cookie and roadside lemonade. The cookie one I mix with 1/2 milk 1/2 Water or add the mix straight to pudding or Greek yogurt, mixed with mild and blenderize with ice cubes it is much like Cookies n cream ice cream. I have fuzzy navel almost daily at work, pour over crushed ice and sip all day. I did NOT like the lemon tea....the color and texture just totally grossed me out, I couldn't finish the bottle :/. Roadside eom add I add crystal light lemonade and extra water, helps mask the proteiny taste a bit. Good luck, hope you like em!! Been a lifesaver for me!!!! wonder if they sell it in Fla. sounds like a good snack..I like most of the greek yogurts but some don't have the calorie/protein ratio I need. and some have a good amt of sugar which I try to avoid.. My nutritionist says I need to stay 5 gms or less..
