    Greek Yogurt

Every Greek yogurt I found is loaded with sugars. Even the light ones. How or where can I find any with low sugar and high protein?

    Protein help

I was drinking isopure but it was making me sick then my NUT told me to dilute it with water.... Much better ! Also okios Greek yogurt triple zero has a lot of protein- lived on the Vanella - still do. Another tip is Iso 100 protein powder - very high protein low sugar and carbs mixed with 25 calorie almond milk...delish I get it at the vitamin shop.

    Why yogurt????

    Finally approved!

Congrats on the approval. I am a firm believer in the protein shakes for pre-op weight loss. I had 2 shakes per day and a very small meal and had no problem losing the required weight. Just be sure to use the low carb protein shakes, not the muscle building ones. I prefer the chocolate whey powder from Walmart, mixed with skim milk and if needed, add some fit anf lite Dannon yogurt before blending. I was banded the end of August and still have the shakes on a daily basis.
  6. oh yah they are smokers that is for sure. Yes Italy has the food market cornered in my opinion. So Preop food plan was 3 weeks out 1 meal of replacement shake and 2 meals of meat and green vegetable. then on 2 weeks out it was 2 Meal Replacements and 1 meal of meat and green vegetables. 1 week out 3 Meal Replacement shakes a day. i am 5'6" and weighed 212, my surgeon wanted my weight down by 8 pounds and my liver healthy. that is his practice for everyone and i did lose the weight. he had no issues with my liver and was able to work around it very easy. my post op was similiar to yours, liquids 1 week, mushies 1 week, reasonable solids (ground beef, fish, etc) 3 weeks. mushies were hard for me because I like hot cereals and those pack the pounds on me, so i went for cottage cheese, thick veggie Soups, yogurts, ricotta cheese with some seasoned stewed tomatoes and garlic, you get the pic. if you look on the right side of this web page right below the search window, it says, "Members Area." click the "messages" link and it will take you to the PM and you just type in the users name and it will send your message to that user only. i am with you, i don't wrangle these websites too often but you will get the hang of it. I have learned that my doctor's words of advice have been right on the money everytime, i have followed his directions to a tee and i feel really good and have not had any "issues." if you would like to visit their website it is Western Bariatric Institute :: Home This website is a wealth of info but if you would like to see my surgeons info packet, I would be happy to mail it to you. just let me know. g2s

    Why yogurt????

I have the same problem with yogurt, especially greek yogurt. When I was first banded I ate it and didn't have any trouble but now that I have restriction it gets stuck. Its strange because I can eat most things as long as I'm careful and it's later in the day but not yogurt! Bums me out cause I love it!

    Why yogurt????

Maybe it's just a consistency thing? I eat pudding all the time but if I try even a bite of yogurt I'll gag. There's just something about the consistency of it that I can't deal with.

    this is support?!

I really like the Mayo Clinic diet. Mason jar salads are my go-to for work lunches: https://www.buzzfeed.com/carolynkylstra/mason-jar-salads?utm_term=.ouMPZYqa0d#.buyv0YWnG7 One way hubby and I compromise on junk food...he is only allowed to bring things into the house that I genuinely don't like. LOL. All other junk had to be consumed at work. (Rumor has it, he has ice cream for lunch a lot) I'm not a fan of certain types of cookies and treats he likes...so those are the ones I'll pick up for him....ones I kinda...hate. Apples are wonderful things. With peanut butter, they're even better. If you have a fridge at work, keep cheese sticks, baby bellas, yogurt, single serving cottage cheese. Also keep low sugar oatmeal packets, sugar free pudding, and anything else you can find that's either low glycemic or high protein. Fruit and veggies are good food. Rediscover hard boiled eggs. Switch your bread to low gycemic options...pumpernickel, whole grain, sourdough...and cut your bread in half if you can. Try high protein wraps. Experiment with chia seed pudding, avacado toast, and homemade protein packs with nuts and cheese and dried fruit. Try several different protien shakes and bars....try for low sugar and high protein. See if you can get a metabolic test to get a true idea of your body fat and set a reasonable calorie goal. if you shoot too low, you'll cheat. Don't cheat...start working on a forever diet you can live with:)
  11. I tried early on to blend protein powder with greek yogurt and that was noooo bueno! =/ Now I blend with very cold water and ice cubes which helps to thicken it, as well as frozen banana and a little SF torani syrup makes them taste all coffee shop special =)

    10 weeks out diet?

I eat mostly yogurt, protein drinks, lean meats, cheese, chili, raw veggies
  13. Thanks Ann! I had a check up one month post op....everything was fine. I think chewing is one of my problems. Baby food consistency is fine like yogurts, mash...I thought about flying back if it doesn't get better. Tonight I had meatballs soup and was much better. Solids are my enemies for now.
  14. Sleeved 4/23 -and I'm taking in 3 (8 ounce) Protein Shakes a day for a total of at least 68 gm protein, homemade chicken broth, carb master yogurt, thinned cr of wheat, thinned mashed potatoes, and Water. I can eat 6 to 8 ounces of broth or a 6 oz yogurt at one time. cr of wheat or potatoes are about 1/4 cup. I spread all of this out from 10a to 1a. Yesterday I took a teeny bite of a roasted potato, chewed it, and spit it out. Then I had a teeny piece of chicken and chewed it to nothing. My daughter had brought food home from a party and I couldn't resist. Just that little teeny bit was satisfying, so it worked for me. I totally understand licking the food!
  15. so the idea is the protein that's it ! i don;t get the 60 per day i now can't handle shakes or even yogurt with high protein i also don't eat Breakfast i only eat once a day i don't want to eat more i even can't handle more than once i so pissed of since the surgery which was on the 27th of july i lost 37 pounds i am so mad of myself don't know what to do You can't possibly do well post-op if you only eat once a day. That is a recipe for disaster. You have to eat breakfast. Even if you don't want to eat you just have to do it. The way I understand my surgeon's instructions, you should consume no more than 20-25 grams of protein at a time. So for me, that means I need to eat at least four to five times a day to reach 100 grams. That can be 3 meals and 2 Snacks.
  16. Don't worry too much about the bm, as long as you are passing gas and not feeling constipated or bloated. For protein, I really like the whey protein 'Body Fortress' from Wal-Mart add skim milk and its like 30 grams per serving. You can also get benefiber (odorless, tasteless) it adds 6gms to anything, soup, yogurt, protein drinks, etc.

    Pre-Op Diet

I was about 100 lbs overweight and my doctor also put me on the pre-op liquid diet. I asked at his office why they don't do everyone, and they said it is determined during the examination by the surgeon. I think if he/she thinks the liver is fatty and they want to shrink it to make surgery easier they do it. I had Atkins Advantage (ready to drink) and EAS Advantage (powder to mix with skim milk), purchased at Target. I found Worldwide Protein shakes (ready to drink) at Trader Joe's in vanilla and chocolate. It comes in 21g and 35g of protein, and to me tastes better than Atkins. I discovered recently that GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe carry Worldwide, and it also comes in banana cream, Cookies and cream, and strawberry. I found them online so I don't know what the stores carry. They only had 35g online. At Trader Joes the 21s cost $1.69 and the 35s cost about $2.29. There is also a website called unjury and they sell powdered protein to mix with skim milk or Crystal Light(the strawberry flavor only for Crystal Light). Comes in strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, chicken Soup (kind of like chicken broth), and unflavored. I found a cookbook link to livingafterwls.com and bought the cookbook, recipes all by wls patients. One is super easy: make up a package of sugar/fat free Jello pudding, adding a scoop of unflavored Unjury. This bumps up the protein content of the pudding. On the full liquid diet I could have broth, tea, coffee, cream Soups, sugar/fat free popsicles and pudding, yogurt, V8 juice, fruit juice (diluted 50% with Water to reduce carbs) and Protein drinks. To ease me into the liquids, the dietician said I could have a small amount of lean protein, so at night when I would tend to overeat the most, I grilled two unbreaded chicken breast tenders and put salt and pepper on them, or I had two hard boiled eggs with salt and pepper. Four days before surgery strictly liquids. I lost around 35 pounds before surgery. I was a little hungry during the day, but I expected that, and work is so busy I didn't have time to dwell on it. So far I have lost 65 pounds. I was banded 3/25/08.

    What did i do?

I had surgery the same date, and while I haven't tried Pasta, I have had a couple of bites of Beans, and about a quarter of a piece of chicken breast. The liquid stage that my doctor has me on is so long, and I see so many other sleeve diet plans that allow gradual progressions of foods after only two weeks. Today so far I have had yogurt, chicken broth, and four spoon full of refried beans with cheese. The beans are not supposed to be for another five days, but so far so good.
  20. I was sleeved on 11/8 and had to spend one week on Clear liquids. I have now moved to Full Liquids. My diet consist of the following: Milk, soy milk or rice milk fruit juice Soup (blended into full liquid) frozen yogurt or sorbet (fat free) pudding or custard (sugar free) vegetable juice Cream of Wheat Yogurt Then my documents it says daily recommeneded intake is 60-70grams of Protein per day. Does this just apply to when I get the soft foods stage? If I am only suppose to eat 3 meals a day and drink 12 cups of water/liquid per day I am confused. My plan for this week was to eat the following: Breakfast: Cream of Wheat Lunch: Yogurt Dinner: Jello Drink: 1 cup of apple juice and 1 cup of almond milk (not on my list but I think it will fall under the milk) during day plus 10 cups of Water If hungry: Add in a either beef broth or tomato soup if I need salty or a sugar free pudding if I need sweet like or if for any reason I need to mix up one the above items. Exercise: 30 minute walk per day So my questions are: 1. Do I have to worry about the protein intake at this stage? 2. Does the meal plan I have look reasonable for Week 2? 3. How much is a serving of Yogurt (2 ozs)? 4. How much is a serving of Cream of Wheat (2 ozs)? (Today I was able to eat about 5-6 teaspoons full for Breakfast before I felt full) 5. At this stage do I have to worry about getting "enough" calories? If so what should be the goal?

  22. So I start my 3rd week post op this Thursday, we are leaving to go camping for the weekend on Friday. I know I can bring yogurts, cans of tuna and applesauce, etc. I can cook eggs also.. Any other easy ideas anyone can give me? I will bring my personal blender too lol, just need a few more ideas without it getting into too many ingredients or time spent on meals. My post op instructions had a few ideas but not many.. I really can't wait to cook for my family again, but I don't want to make big dinners just to have to puree them for myself. I think I will wait a couple more weeks then be able to make healthy high Protein meals for dinner.
  23. I'm just under two weeks post-op. I was operated on here in the states and my post-op diet is as follows. Day of surgery, we're allowed NOTHING at all. No Water, nothing. That sucked. Stage 1: just water (this was the day after surgery) We could only sip no more than 1oz over 1 hour. Stage 2: Clear liquids, sipping no more than 3oz over 1 hour. Then we were sent home on day 3. Stage 3: sugar free & low fat full liquids, sipping no more than 8oz over 1 hour. We're supposed to get in 48oz liquids a day plus 60 grams of Protein. During this stage the doctor approved water, crystal light, coffe/tea, broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, sugar free juice, tomato or V-8 juice, yogurt Stage 4: pureed/soft foods. This is where we can introduce things like fish, tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad, imitation seafood, cheese, cottage cheese ricotta cheese, eggs, baked chicken/turkey. So, I go see my doctor in two days for my 2 weeks post op appointment and this is where he'll advance me to stage 4-pureed foods. Personally, I cannot wait. I'm so sick of drinking and can't wait to taste food again, even though it'll look like baby food. LOL I guess I could get to my question now. Once I start eating again whether it's during the pureed food stage or once I start to actually eat normally again, how long does it take for you to know if what you're eating is going to agree with you? Is this something that you feel immediate or does it take time for your stomach to say, 'NOPE' this ain't happening?
  24. @Rogofulm Thanks for the tip. I have always had a very hard time getting liquids in. Before surgery I would have a cup of coffee in the morning and one in the evening. That was it for the entire day. I just don't enjoy drinking. In the pre-op period I worked to get the Water in and immediately post-op I was determined. Just the thought of dehydration and IV fluids had me drinking! And I found it pretty easy between the Protein shakes, yogurt, and water to get the 64 oz. I didn't think of it until I read your post but the hunger came back when I started solids and my Fluid intake went way down. Not sure if that is a coincidence or not. I will diligently try to get the fluid in and see what happens!
