Anyone know someone who had the ESG procedure more than 2 years ago?
hope4momof4 replied to SammieKay's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
That is around my current weight now, mountaingal. I’m about at 190 but a bit shorter than you 5’5”. I’m stuck at this weight. I have been stuck here for almost two weeks. I’m very depressed because my ESG was only a month ago and I know the majority of your weight loss occurs in the beginning. I’m concerned that I spent all this $ (out of pocket) for a procedure that only gave me a 12 pound weight loss so far. I’m trying to keep positive and sticking to the plan but I’m not seeing results. I exercise 4-5 times a week at the gym doing 40-45 minutes of cardio. My meals are as follows: green smoothie for breakfast— 275 calories and 25g of protein lunch— unjury chicken broth— 90 calories and 21g of protein dinner— baked salmon with soft veggies or chicken breast strips cooked stir fry with soft veggies or eggs with broccoli and onions— each one has at least another 20 g of protein and no more than 400 Calories snacks— bone broth only 50 calories and 10g of protein, protein water— 90 calories and 20 g protein, a sugar free fudgesicle or popsicle, a serving of sugar free jell-o, or nonfat Greek yogurt. I’ve even upped my water intake to 8-10 cups a day. Where am I going wrong? -

My questions were not directed to make you feel bad. You ask VERY important questions and need information but you give very little information about yourself, your surgery, your diet. How far out you are from surgery. So it's like asking us to have a crystal ball to give you very specific advice. The first part of my response to you was a reminder. Not a shaming statement. Someone makes it to me to remind me and I find it super helpful! The ONLY way I know that I'm not eating too much right now, is because I use the exact volume or weight given by my surgeon for this time in my diet. Do I want more? Oh sure!!! I do. LOL. I am not yet able to feel satiety. And, you don't mention your diet, but I can guarantee you that if I'm eating high carb foods, or drinking while eating, I will be hungry less than 2 hours later! Fo' shizzle. But if I only eat my protein, and maybe a bite (tiny bite) of a very well cooked veg, and a tiny bit of healthy fat, I am cool for about 3 hours. And that's only eating 1/4c of food per meal! LOL. Protein drinks do give me satiety. But for many, they do not! You know? Yogurt barely gives me satiety, but if I add low fat cottage cheese, then it keeps me for 3 hours, even at less than 1/2 c total volume. (I can have up to 1/2c of yogurt at this point.) So, THAT's why I responded as I did. To get more information from you, so we can possibly even stab at giving you AWESOME helpful advice. It was never meant to shame you! Sorry. And hope you stick around and keep fighting to win your surgery! If I eat slider foods, which I assure you even at 2 weeks I "could" theoretically do, they will wizz right past my new anatomy and go directly to my hips without passing go! -

So, not that I have the answers, but this is what I was doing. Maybe it will help? 1Brekky - decaff coffee and 9-10oz Premier Protein as creamer (23g P) 2nd Brekky - 1 egg softboiled (6g P) MS - Egg Salad (6g P) L - Egg Salad (6g P) AS - Yogurt/Cottage Cheese/Applesauce (15g P) D - 1.5oz dense protein of some kind (9g P) BS - Yogurt/Cottage Cheese/WF Blueberry Syrup (10g P) 75g P for the day! Voila!!! It's a lot of meals, but in the beginning we're only supposed to eat 1/4c of food max. As our volume increases, meals decrease. And you're only taking in 23g of P from protein drinks even only 2-3 weeks out? Hope that helps. Just word: MAKE SURE your poop chute is cleaned out from all the stuck-in crap from surgery or you will have constipation/blockages like nobody's beeswax!!! -
8 days post op. This is TMI but I managed to poop today for the first time after surgery! I am so relieved. It was firm but it wasn't hard to pass. I don't even know how I managed to do so when all I've been having is broth, herbal tea, fat free greek yogurt, and water. I am not hydrating as well as I should though, I think I get in 30-35 oz of water a day. My doctor recommended 65 oz at least. I am hoping other liquids count.

I do 1000-1200 calories per day. I get at least 60g of Protein. I eat a lot of veggies and fruit. I don't eat any refined high glycemic index carbs. (or a very tiny amount...never more than 75 calories in a day) I do eat low glycemic carbs like whole grains, beans, oatmeal, etc. And lots of very lean protein. Yogurt is another favorite. Stalls are just gonna happen. Your body has years of evolutionary defense mechanisms in place to help keep you from starving to death during famines and challenging years. It will do all sorts of nasty tricks to try to get you to return to your bad eating habits, and it will grind weight loss to a stop. Eventually, though....something has to give. You will lose weight. Be patient. Be consistent.

Would,it help any if you could cut it with some sugar free pudding or Greek yogurt, kinda make it a mousse texture? Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

When does the hunger return?
sillykitty replied to sillykitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How far out are you? I never felt any real restrictions with liquid-y foods, like yogurt or soup. I could keep eating, I just had to make myself stop when I felt satisfied. Solid foods like chicken though, yep, definitely feel the restriction after 1-2 oz, or even less sometimes. -
Has anyone taken this journey alone? Tips?
sillykitty replied to NYCNomad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm confused by this too. My mom picked me up, but I seriously considered calling a Lyft. I don't think my hospital would have had an issue with that. We were going through the discharge process before my mom picked me up, and never asked how I was getting home. I've basically done this alone. I have friends and family nearby, but I just never needed anything. I got my meds a week before my surgery. I stocked the house with water, protein shakes, yogurt etc. If I had needed anything there are plenty of delivery services available. I've been fine and not once have I wished I had some help. -
When does the hunger return?
TakingABreak replied to sillykitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone's restriction is different. I am almost 7 weeks post op. I remember when I took my bariatric class the nutritionist told us that everyone's pouch size would be different. Some would be 4 ounces, some would be 8 ounces. Plus as the swelling goes down, you will be able to eat more. Also it HIGHLY depends on what you are eating. Yogurt is very filling for me. -

March 5th 2018 is my date!
Polymorphing replied to survive.sleeve.slay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@frust8 I've been doing really well! Today is day 7 post-op, and only today did my incision stop hurting with every little movement, now it only hurts with very specific movements. I was able to spring clean my make up collection, and get back to my skincare routine. I lost 14 pounds so far, and I am feeling great! I remember 14 pounds taking me two months of strict calorie counting, using the scale, and meal prep... I am definitely getting into the hype of WLS right now lol! I am regaining my energy a little bit at a time. But the hunger has been real. It could be my stomach acid but each morning I wake up with this gnawing hunger. Liquids, tea, broth, and yogurt help me keep it down by a lot. I am on the full liquids phase (can't have even blended soup! Just strained broth) till Sunday. My NUT is so strict but I think that's for the better. All the patients end up not vomiting even once. I simply can't wait to have my thai butternut squash soup, and sweet potato curry soup, mmmmm! -
Late-Feb sleevers
SleevedSoulSistah replied to bronzemeatloaf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 2/28 too. Still on clear liquids and shakes until I have my follow up appointment on 3/8 when I’ll be able to switch over to full liquids to include creamy soups and yogurt. Thankfully I haven’t been hungry yet been hitting my protein goals much easier than my water goals. That’s cause I’ve made protein jello and protein popsicles. The Road 2 A Better Me -
I’m on week two post op and I was told for the next 3 weeks all I can have is two protein shakes a day, one item as a meal ( SF Jell-O or pudding, vegetable soup with no pasta or rice blended, plain Greek yogurt, farina and mashed potato made with chicken broth )48 to 96 ounces of water, one sugar-free ice pop – because I begged for a snack. I’m feeling this

I met with the nutritionist at my surgeon's office and she told me for the first month of my insurance-mandated three month pre-op diet to limit carbs to just the morning and cut out carbonated drinks. Since I'd tried Aktins/Keto before I figured I'd just go with that. I met with her again five weeks later, having lost 13lb and based on my success she told me not to change a thing for month two. As for my routine: For work days I found the Kirkland (Costco) brand protein bars and have one for breakfast, then a hard boiled egg and/or string cheese for a morning snack. Lunch is spinach salad with carb free dressing, a chunk of some kind of lean meat (often leftover from the previous night's dinner), and some raw broccoli. Afternoon snack is a low carb yogurt and/or another string cheese. If I want a snack when I get home I'll have a chunk of cheddar or some pork rinds. I also bought some Carb-Quik baking mix on Amazon, it's like Bisquick but 95% fiber so very low net carbs and I'll have one or two biscuits made from that a day with butter to satisfy my bread craving. Dinner is more spinach salad, another chunk of meat/fish or a low-carb recipe like sausage and cream cheese stuffed jalapenos and a vegetable. Weekends are similar but I'll have eggs and a biscuit for breakfast instead of the protein bar and I also bought the 5lb drum of Cookies and Cream protein shake mix from Costco which I prefer to make with unsweetened almond milk instead of water. However, twice since I began I felt I ate too much the previous day so I did a full day of nothing but the protein drinks all day and a smaller dinner. Very important of course is getting the 64oz of water a day. I found boxes of 8 packets of Hawaiian Punch fruit punch and Wyler's lemonade for $1 each at a local discount store and stocked up big time to ensure I don't get tired of plain water. I'm also fortunate that my surgeon said I do not need to do a pre-op liquid diet as many surgeons recommend.

Any other April 2018 Sleevers?
Swedez716 replied to mitchjoann132010's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine is not necessarily a liquid diet, which surprised me. It is broken down into 5 small meals/snacks a day for two weeks- 1 meal consists of 4 oz of lean protein, 3 serving non-starchy vegetables, and two servings of fat. The other 4 meals/ snacks are either a protein shake of some sort, protein bar, or Greek yogurt/cottage cheese. -
I had surgery 2/28 so I'm 5 days out. I was hungry leaving the hospital and have been hungry since! LOL I not only have the hunger pain, but I sometimes have pain on my right side after I swallow anything. In the beginning it was excruciating, but it has lessened. I am able to hold down everything I'm allowed: water, sf popsicles, broth, yogurt, thin cream soups, sf pudding, and my protein shakes. The first two days home I had trouble reaching my water goals for SURE. I only got in about 16 to 20 oz. But by day 3, I finally hit 32 oz. Today, I hit 40 oz. So I'm definitely making progress. I'm getting all my protein from the protein shakes (with skim milk), Premier Protein Clear and yogurt which probably puts me right about 65-70 grams of protein a day. I'm relying on the shakes for my vitamins as well. NUT said to begin vitamin supplements on 3/7. I'm looking into getting some of the vitamin patches here on Bariatric Pal because it'd be one less thing to think about putting in my mouth! Today was my first day back at work and I was a little weak but I have a desk job. I wonder if the weakness is from a drastic calorie drop. I'm probably getting about 300 to 500 calories a day. (I also use Propel with electrolytes for my water goals, so I'm hoping my body appreciates that too.) I've been sleeping on my back which sucks because I'm a side sleeper but I don't want to mess my incisions up. They are a tad sore, but I have to really twist or hit a bump in the road to feel pain. They look good so far. I'm hoping the glue doesn't wear off too soon because I feel like I need the reinforcement for a good while! My one week post op is Thursday and hopefully I get a thumbs up from my doc. Oh, and I'm down 7 pounds since the surgery.

I have a nectar Protein Shake mixed with milk, Unjury chicken Soup, Premier Protein drinks and today I tried Okios triple zero vanilla yoghurt. Adding the yogurt (half a serving) boosted my calories to 650. No solid food or puréed food yet. Not feeling hungry at all.

Congrats on your date!! I'm April 10th! I have a hard time with the protein shakes I'm not a fan of thick drinks but my nutritionist gave me some ideas to work with. I don't do cottage e cheese either, so I figured during the pureed stage I'll mostly stick with eggs and triple zero yogurt. I guess we'll find out when we get to that point what agrees with our bodies.

February 2018 Success Stories
Batcap replied to kakatlady612's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had Gastric Bypass on 2/8 & will be celebrating 4 weeks on Thursday. So far I've lost 37 pounds & off of 2 of my 3 diabetes medications, one of them being insulin so I'm extremely happy about that. I'm back to work but still feeling weak only have enough gas in the tank til about 3 in the afternoon but pushing ahead. I'm living off of soup, cottage cheese & yogurt. I don't think that I'd be sane if it wasn't for Sugar Free Popsicles. Hitting my first stall during the last couple days I was losing a pound to pound & a half a day, knew the stall was going to come but still al little bitter that the scale hasn't moved in two days. Also during the last couple days a new phenomenon has come up, just THINKING about a protein shake makes my mouth break into that warm pre vomit feeling, not good. Going to try and mix in some scrambled or hard boiled eggs. So weird not being physically hungry I try to explain it but nobody believes it, but I know you guys do. Hope everyone is well, prayers for your recoveries! -
Cholesterol Increased After Surgery
LisaE19 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Historically, I have always had low cholesterol (it had to be genetics!). The highest its ever been is 190 and the lowest was 160. 2 months prior to surgery, my CHOL was 170, TRIG = 51, HDL = 72 and LDL = 133. I am 5 months post op and had my labs done today by my PCP and my cholesterol is the highest ever - 221 with elevated HDL and LDL. I was SHOCKED. I am strict with my diet, I have had no sugar and carbs are at about 24 grams per day. I basically eat meat, veggies and low fat cheese and yogurt. I work out 7 days a week - swimming 2 miles a day, 3x per week and work out at least 30 minutes the other 4 days a week. I had better cholesterol levels when I ate crap! I have an appointment with my surgeon in April (I believe this is the visit where he will also draw labs for my 6 month check up). Has anyone else experienced increased Lipid results after surgery? -
13th for me 😁😁😁.. anyone know once you start the 9 day diet if your allowed to drink more than 64 oz In a day??? I’m mostly on a liquid diet, except one yogurt at dinner... 3 protein shakes and ..8oz of milk... the dietitian said 1000 calories a day... but If that’s all I’m allowed to eat... that’s less than 700 calories... any ideas??!! Please and thank you 😊

ESG Progress Updates For Accountability
hope4momof4 replied to hope4momof4's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hey there TexSlim! You may think it's weird but I felt like you were my big brother when I asked how to add the ticker. That's the kind of thing I'd ask my older brothers about when I can't figure out how to work something. Anyway, I digress, I have figured it out and it is actually really cool how you can choose the icon and marker!! I wanted to ask you another question or more like I'm asking you for some wisdom, big brother, lol, I need help getting through a stall again and I'm not sure how to work through it. The last time Amy Alexis reminded me to up more water intake which I did and I got through it. Now, however I'm stalled again and it's getting frustrating!!! What am I doing wrong? Here's what my day looks like now, more or less, remember I'm still on puree or soft foods. Breakfast--- green smoothie (protein shake with green veggies and berries added in with water and some almond milk) Lunch-- 3-4 egg whites with broccoli Dinner-- one of the following--- lentil soup, 4 oz, baked salmon, chicken strips with veggies stir fried, chili, or a small portion of the dinner my family had--- has to be soft because I'm still in the puree stage Snacks throughout the day--- nonfat greek yogurt, sugar free jell-o, sugar free popsicle, bone broth, sugar free fudgesicle, occasionally sugar free pudding but not often because it sets off my sweet tooth I only drink Protein premier clear protein drink, water, sometimes crystal light. I do cardio exercise 3-4 times a week for about 35-40 minutes each time. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks for all the help and support you've provided me so far! -

WOW!! That weight loss is amazing!! So inspirational Luv LIfe!! Your meals are small and healthy which our tool helps with but the rest is all YOU!!! Your exercise regimen is impressive and that is what I believe has helped you lose even more. You really did get the best out of this procedure and I hope that your success continues. Have you had any stalls? I'm stalled at the moment. Tomorrow it will be 4 weeks for me post op and I've only lost 12 pounds. I did have a stall before and upping my water intake helped me break through it. I'm going to try that again. If you have any tips for me it would be much appreciated on how to get past the stall. Here's my daily routine and food plan more or less, please help me tweak it to get better results: Breakfast--- green smoothie (protein shake with green veggies and berries added in with water and some almond milk) Lunch-- 3-4 egg whites with broccoli Dinner-- one of the following--- lentil soup, 4 oz, baked salmon, chicken strips with veggies stir fried, chili, or a small portion of the dinner my family had--- has to be soft because I'm still in the puree stage Snacks throughout the day--- nonfat greek yogurt, sugar free jell-o, sugar free popsicle, bone broth, sugar free fudgesicle, occasionally sugar free pudding but not often because it sets off my sweet tooth I only drink Protein premier clear protein drink, water, sometimes crystal light. I do cardio exercise 3-4 times a week for about 35-40 minutes each time. I cheated once with some vanilla creme filled cookies and man did I pay the price for that!! Horrible gas pains, heartburn, and then the dumping came which actually provided relief but I threw out the rest of the box in case I got crazy again. Any suggestions? With love and support always!!! -
Be strong and steady. I was very hangry [emoji6] it gets easier!! Keep your eye on the prize. I froze Greek yogurt for a treat and used unflavored protein in a lot of things to make sure I got my protein. If I got really hungry, I gulped a big cup of water and went walking. Surgery for me is tomorrow. You can do it!!! HW 303 SW 278 CW 280 GW 150 Sleeve 3/6/18
