Wont front the revision surgery kicked my ass, but two weeks later i'm thinking it was the right thing to do

    LOSING TOO FAST?

800 kcal per day is a very typical number and consistent with good weight loss. Our loss tends to be heavily forward loaded with a lot of water weight loss early on - your loss rate should be slowing right about now (do a search for the "three week stall") as your body pauses to catch up. As a reference, I lost 32lb the first month, and then 15 each of the next two months, so things do slow down. (What is happening is that your body, when it goes into a big caloric deficit as it does immediately after your WLS, starts drawing of your body's glycogen reserves - basically stored carbohydrate - which takes a lot of water to stay in solution. So your body is throwing off a lot of water as it burns the glycogen. Then, when that runs out (after 2-3 weeks typically) the body has to start drawing on its stored fat (which is what we want!) but it can take a few days (or weeks for some) for the body to shift gears to do that, so don't panic if your loss suddenly stops for a while. Also, your loss rate will be lower once you start burning your fat reserves, as the fat burns more slowly than the glycogen. The glycogen burn may also be why you are feeling a bit weak and tired, as that is your quick response energy store, and you are running low. Try working in a little more carbohydrate - oat meal, cream of wheat, unsweetened apple sauce are common - to help keep those levels up a bit more. In theory, our body is supposed to burn our excess fat to make glycogen, but that doesn't always happen as quickly as we need it (this is why marathoners will "carb load" with a lot of bread and pasta the day before an event - to make sure their glycogen levels are as high as possible before they go burning it all off the next day - we don't need to go that far, but the same principle applies.) Overall, it looks like your are doing great, and I wouldn't worry about losing too fast until you are within maybe five kilos of your goal weight - if you get there withing six months, then you may need to slow things down so that you don't overshoot the mark too far; otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. (And yes, my doc's RN also told me to cut back the exercise because I was losing too fast - but that was at six months, and about 10 lb from goal weight, and while I wasn't inclined to cut back on what is my normal maintenance level of exercise, I did start ramping up the calories to start slowing things down.)

HW....368 SW.....294 CW.....254 I had my surgery on 8/10/2020. Suffering from nausea but other than that I feel well. My issues are more emotional. I really don’t like the way I look. Still working on that

Only 10 days after surgery my blood tests show that I now am out of the diabetic range on the Hba1c: it's dropped by 11 points already.

    Insurance help!

My version of BCBS does cover WLS, but I called them anyway to confirm. It was a fairly lengthy phone call as they went over all the preop requirements. Then they sent me their coverage info so I could look it up or refer to it on my own. The approval process required 3+ months of various appointments (cardiologist, psychologist, 3 months of nutritional counseling, PCP visit, etc.) so there was plenty of time for the WLS office to work out any kinks (there weren’t any). After I had gone to all the various appointments the WLS office called BCBS to verify final approval and set the surgery date. That took maybe 10 days. I got the impression it probably goes slightly quicker in non-COVID times. With the whole process there really isn’t a possibility that I could have ended up getting expensive surgery without insurance approval, something I was concerned about in the beginning.
  6. I’ve been waiting forever for surgery. Was supposed to go in May, then got put on hold because of COVID. Surgeon wanted a Motility study done by Gastrointerologist and I had that done end of June called their office and said it was completed but could never talk to scheduling. They were taking the easy cases during the summer I was complicated. By the way I live in Colorado and my surgeon is in Phoenix AZ! Our insurance is Banner Health and there are no “Tier 1” hospitals here! I did my seminar in September 2019! I get a call 2 weeks ago saying did you ever do you your Motility test? I was so mad because I called twice about it! They finally go the results. The head surgeon has to handle my case and I have a problem from surgery 2 years ago a surgery to repair a para-esophageal hernia where they did a Nissen. I do not have normal peristalsis- muscle movement to move my food and the sphincter at the bottom of esophagus doesn’t relax! So it’s called a Nutcracker Esophagus! She too my case before the GI conference Foregut to discuss it and they agreed that I’d be better off with the surgery and the issue should normalize. Has anyone had this condition prior to a Gastric Bypass surgery and how are you doing now?
  7. Too late to join in? 10-26 surgery, lost 19 pounds since I got home.
  8. I'm only 10 days post op, so pretty close to you in the process but I've not had any troubles getting liquids down. I never felt full at all with liquids. I started adding yogurt in yesterday and it's the first I've noticed starting to feel a little "full" before finishing the cup. I can tell you I have a LOT of head cravings but no true hunger I don't think. That having been said, I'm frigging sick of liquids. Soo ready to move on to purees Monday. Week of 11/9/2020 surgeries

Hi I am 11/10 the day after you and I would be happy to be a motivator for one another. Maybe we can setup a zoom call weekly or something like that,

    2 weeks post op

I'm 10 days post op. I struggle with fluids when I just do water. I'm still on full liquids so I've been doing a couple of protein drinks a day, broth, and then getting the last little bit with water. That's probably not very helpful, but if you hear better pass it on to me too! Sent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    How do you Cope?

This is awesome. I'm a huge crafter too...I say this while I'm surrounded by 10 unfinished projects lol! They are all pretty big ones, so maybe I need small projects or something I can do in 20 to 30 minutes. I like to make costumes and upcycled art.

    Anyone for October 2020?

You are wise. There are just so many factors affecting small fluctuations in weight day to day so weekly is the wiser choice. I My personal journey has me up and down one to two daily only to lose 4-5 by weeks end. I'm on the week three diet right now and I am curious what will happen when I start introducing food. I dropped 10 during pre-op with a total of 34lb since starting the process. Something else I used to mention to clients back in my personal training days (many, many moons ago obviously if I had a VSG), is to be sure to weigh at the same time every day. People tend to weigh less in the morning, but you can also do evening. It is less about the number on the scale than the differential from one weigh in and the next.
  13. I’m newly sleeved (10/26) and just wondering if feeling nauseated is normal. I am not vomiting but do have a lot of gurgling going around in my stomach and a real sense of nausea. Still in fluid stage and trying to get protein down. Some days better than others. Could it be dehydration? Also, I’m still in some pain/discomfort on the right side incision where they pulled my stomach out. Is this normal? I find it difficult to bend over or twist at all. I thought it would be better 9 days out.

    Anyone for October 2020?

I had my VSG done on 10/29. The first few days were bad with the gas, and me wondering if I made a huge mistake. I got my drain out yesterday and have felt so much better. During my first couple of days of feeling like I made a horrible decision. I Google and found this site, and am so happy I have. Sent from my SM-G781U using BariatricPal mobile app

    6 weeks post Sleeve surgery

Look at it this way, you have lost 25 lbs total. It is most likely fluids. Don't obsess over the scale too much. I am about 10 months out and have had 3 week stalls, i gained 5 lbs one week, then lost 8 lbs and gained 3 the next. Try to keep a mindset that it is a life long journey. We didn't gain this weight overnight and we can't lose 8t overnight either. Work on developing good habits to replace the bad ones that caused us to gain the weight.

    Dont waste your money

I have had it in for a month and it is wonderful. I have had no major problems at all (apart from a bit of nausea in the last few days, which on a scale of one tto 10 would be three). I wish I had done it years ago. I have wasted thousands on other treatments over the years that did not work. This works for me. I have lost 23lbs in a month.
  19. Yes, it did thankfully! I went back for my 10 day check up on Monday 2nd (i.e. after the new lockdown announcement here) and my Consultant told me that they're still going to be carrying on with the private wls operations until they're told to stop. This is at the private wing of a large NHS hospital - so the private ops will be going ahead at the moment. I don't know about the wls ops on the NHS?
  20. I had the lapband procedure done in 11/16/08. Prior to having the surgery, I spent months reviewing every doctor in my state. When I met with the doctorI had chosen based upon his credentials, he told me there were minimal risks and he himself had the band done over 10 years before with no problems. Almost immediately after the surgery, I started having problems. Within a few short months, I began passing out anytime I would stand up. My husband took me back to my doctor and he said there was no way it's the band and sent me home. A few months went by and I became sicker and sicker. I went months and couldn’t even keep down water. During an office visit with the surgeon, I passed out in his office. He still insisted it wasn’t the band. I complained multiple times about having very bad pain on my right side for a few months. I was constantly told I must have the flu. He still proclaimed it wasn't the lapbands fault. After a few months of me not getting better and having to crawl even to the bathroom in order to avoid passing out, my husband forced me to go to the ER. They admitted me with a blood pressure of 80/60. The ER doctor told my husband if he hadn't brought me in when he did I would’ve died with another 18-24 hours. The went to do a scan on my right side and said I needed emergency gall bladder surgery. I was told this was very common in patients with lapbands. I repeatedly told the ER doc that the lap band doctor kept saying there wasn't anything wrong with the band. I spent 10 days in the hospital just to get well enough for them to even do the gallbladder surgery. After the surgery, I started to get a little better for about a week or so. I started passing out again and still couldn’t hold down even water. My husband convinced me to go see another lap band doctor since I was still having really bad stomach pains. The new doctor admitted me to his hospital to do an endoscopy. I was told the lapband had eroded so severely into my stomach that he was not comfortable removing the band himself. He gave me a picture of the band visible from the inside of my stomach. We were told this was extremely rare for someone who only had it less than two years for it to be this severely eroded to the point it was visible inside my stomach I feel my original doctor consistently defended the lapband to the point that he almost killed me. I now have a hole in my stomach and a separate hernia that was caused by him not wanting to admit the band was causing me so many health problems. I suffered during those 20 months so badly that I missed almost a full year of work. I think people should know this thing is not the way to go for weight loss surgery. It can kill you. I want everyone to know how bad these things are.

    Anyone for October 2020?

I put my scale away until my next appt (Nov 17). Anyone else? I know I’m doing everything I am supposed to do and the weight will come off. I started getting frustrated, weighing multiple times a day and I got sick of it, lol! Last time I looked on 10/30 I was 203lbs (down 40 lbs from starting weight and 10 from surgery on 10/19).

    Any October Sleevers?

I haven't experienced the stomach pain but I have heard from others that sometimes the temperature of what you are drinking makes a difference. Maybe try cold if you're drinking hot or vice versa, or maybe even room temp. I hope things are better for you now. Congrats on your surgery. I had VSG on 10/27/20.
  25. Stalls are common...and frustrating! I keep having stalls, some short, some long, but eventually the weight DOES come off! Also, pay attention to how you look and feel. I have found that the changes in appearance seem to be most noticeable when I am not actually losing weight (as strange as that sounds!). I have slowed to about 10 pounds per month after the first month, but I'm half way to goal and as long as it keeps coming off, I am happy! Good luck!!!
