    November 2020 sleevers

I’m officially sleeved! The pain and nausea were pretty bad yesterday, and I threw up liquid pain meds once. 0/10, do not recommend. Feeling a bit better today. I’m trying to drink a protein shake right now, just still really hesitant because of the pain in my stomach. I’ve had a lot of burps and they make me feel so much better. I feel like it’s like burping a baby. Passed the swallow test this am so hopefully things are looking up!

    Anyone for October 2020?

My surgery was 3 weeks tomorrow and one of my incisions hasn't healed yet either. It was bleeding and oozing on my 10 day check-up and Doctor re-dressed & said don't worry. But it was still bleeding after some days so I went to my GP surgery (family doctor) and the nurse there is now "packing" it & re-dressing it twice a week. The "packing" involves sticking something into the unhealed wound which will help it heal apparently. Maybe get your family doctor or nurse to take a look at it?

    6 weeks out - Expectations

trust me on this and us Vets around here will back me on this This F$#$ckin surgery has major head game issues once you get them in line you will love the journey. It takes time and really focus on something else besides this journey. We all get caught up in the reward but for example i made taco Tuesday for 20 plus college kids today did it look down and say woof down 19 of them like the old days? No i had a few over 4 hours, I am a chef but still after getting over the addition to food can still cook. I also got a dog since surgery to focus on something else, Once i lost 80 pounds my kids got me a lab puppy he has allowed me a new challenge to my new lifestyle; Gets me away from the head games.. If you are old like me DO not get a dang puppy lot of freakin work Not going to be easy and we all understand but once you get you head off your old lifestyle stuff changes. Reach out anytime to any of us who has been there, In closing The surgery was a tool and it is up to you to get the workshop in order to use the tool the best of its benifits. Get healthy, Happy and enjoy the new life!
  7. I live in NC, and finished up everything the Dr. required so we could submit to insurance for approval. I was so excited. The nurse and staff informed me at check out that it can take up to 2 weeks for a decision. Well, today is Nov 10 and just shy of 2 days of the approx. 2 weeks for a decision from insurance, so I called my Dr office just to check the status to only be told " that my information hasn't even been submitted to insurance yet because they're 9 people ahead of me?" OK. Understood, but why wasn't I informed that on the day that everything was complete, instead of the wait time now of 9 more people ahead of me. I guess I'm just curious if this has happened to anyone else? We work so hard to get to the surgery day to be told we have to wait again. IDK... just upset. Thanks for listening and letting me get this out.
  8. Hi! I’m new here. I had my RNY on 10/21/20 and I’m doing okay for the most part however, there are quite a few vitamins that I have to take that are chewable/sublingual ONLY for the first 3 months. I’ve developed a conditioned response to chewables and sublinguals over the years and I can’t get them down or if I do, they’re coming right back up. I’m concerned about getting the nutrients I need if I continue to throw them up. Any suggestions on how I can overcome this? I don’t want to mess this up. Thank you.

    Sleeve to Bypass & hungry?

Yeah the restriction is different. I’ve been eating 1/2 cup of yogurt and then stopping trying to see how I feel like am I full idk? Then I hiccup and I’m like okay I’m sure I’m full. I think it’s good we aren’t feeling it. Means we aren’t filling out stomach up yay! 7-10 days I do liquids. Tomorrow i can have soft foods and I cannot wait I just want an egg! I think with regular food we will feel it. For now I’ll just use measuring cup and only eat that. When you hear gurgling or hiccup stop? Who knows lol I’m glad I did this though.

    Feeling weak/rubber legs

I agree it's your H2O. I use EnduroPacks Liquid Electrolytes spray in my H2O. I was getting bad leg cramps at night when I was first out of surgery. This knocked them out. It's a small bottle and you put 10 squirts in your water. Good stuff. You can get it on Amazon.
  11. I had ESG on 9/25/2020. I'm just over 6 weeks. I lost 10 pounds the first two weeks (I was very ill the first two weeks), but only 10 in the next four weeks. So, 20 pounds in 6 weeks. I expected to lose the weight faster than I am. Were my expectations unrealistic. My starting weight was 205, BMI 31 or 33. I'm 5'5".

    Constantly ill

Kdella, I'm sorry you are feeling so discouraged. I also had a bleeding ulcer and blood clots in my legs. It's hard to keep your spirits up when there are complications. But the reality is that you are doing great. 55 pounds in 4 months is actually very good. Nearly everyone stalls around the 4 month mark, so what you are experiencing is normal. There are so many psychological changes that occur after WLS. As you know, it is a lot more than just a physical process. The joy of food will return, but it will be different. The fact that you are a cook and a baker is wonderful, because you have the knowledge to adapt recipes and come up with innovations that will probably help others, as well. Do not get your surgery reversed! You just need to heal and keep following the plan. The weight will come off, and a year from now your body and your outlook will be completely different. You just have to hang in there. As you have discovered, the crutch of comfort food has been taken away, so now you will learn new ways to cope - ways that are healthier and more positive for your life. You have made one of the biggest decisions of your life in getting surgery. It will most likely turn out to be one of the best decisions you have made, but you have to reframe your thoughts to start focusing on what you have instead of what you don't have. You are over half way to your goal weight! That is great! A lot of folks are not that far along in just 4 months - really! You have passed some major hurdles - the first few months are the hardest for everyone, and you had the added complication, but... that is behind you now. It only gets better. Start reworking your favorite meals to see what kind of tasty dishes you can come up with! I discovered a severe gluten intolerance about 10 years ago, and am STILL finding new gluten free recipes that are even better than the originals. (I found an amazing green bean casserole, complete with onion topping that is more delicious than the standard one that everyone brings to potlucks. And I just learned how to back incredible GF bread.) It's a learning adventure that keeps on going..... Learning how to appreciate and prepare healthier foods is like that, too. You start building a catalog of recipes that you and your family like, and it just gets better and better. HANG IN THERE! You are not alone.

Yes, in the late afternoon on the 2nd. My surgeon told me, pre-op, that a lot of his patients start on softs in a few days. 😳 Yeah, with all the complications I had, I am starting when my nutritionist says (7-10 days). My softs may be different than others', though. Reading through the packet from my nut, it seems like applesauce, eggs, smooth peanut butter, cream of wheat, and the like.

    Unflavored Protein Powder

I have used Genepro and Root Vitality Collagen powder. I bought the Collagen powder for my skin and nails (before I even considered WLS) but it does have 10 grams of protein and stirs EASILY into my hot coffee. I use Genepro (30 grams of protein) with things like protein bites, protein jello shots (not as much fun as the ones I had in college) and stirred into refried beans and other cooked items that are not boiling.
  16.   Hi there obviously i am a newbie. My weight loss battle has been going on like too far. up and down good then awful like 2 times  first was  320 lbs now this one at 285 lbs. I've had it.  i'm so tired of being visible and invisible.. loved for my thinny, and deplored by my fatty.  So over a year ago i began classes for the nutrition phase of my journey to bariatric sleeve surgery.  that took 6 months, then  Covid 19 hit and postponed all of my pre surgery goals.  my good friend, and i started together she was like 2 week set go before i got refferal; not to far off each other but after we finished classes i still had 1 month to go before i had to go thru all the medical clearences she was right on track and had most of them done then Covid 19 hit, and she pulled right thru and i got stopped. She now had to wait for the surgery part to re-open in may and she and another gal i know got there gastric sleeve with in a month of each other. but here i was left in the dark ages for a over due period of time. then i got a  first visit with my surgeon, and lo and behold; a child in my classroom and his family caught Covid 19!!! so the 2 weeks i was on quarantine it was when i had my initial visit. "postponed again"!!! so finally about 18 months after the first  start of my bariatric journey on November 4th 2020 I got my date.  The hoops up until my surgery was another wild ride. Talking about the offices RE:gastric offices and my primary "get it together"........ I was doing catch up up until the day before surgery.  Kinda was trippin me out.  My bariatric surgeons office didn't tell me to begin my 2 week shake fast before my pre-op; so they were looking at each other, and said you should be fine just start now. i did it but i did have to have a salad 1 time a day. i cheated on Halloween and had a lot of candy and 2 double cheese burgers but went back to the salad shake diet. the week before i went to pre op i was 285, but just a week later i was 273 12 lbs in 1 week just on 3-4 shakes and a salad.   November 4th arrives I am super terrified. like " oh my god what have i done Mo" here come the needles and naked and nervous comedy hour, and getting ready to be put down in a very vulnerable  position being strapped down and a needle coming at me..... time for one last joke and bam!!!!!!! im waking up, and **** just got real.  I'm afraid to move (i got a pee) no i don't gotta pee. can i stand up???? ahhhhhh no my fat belly just had surgery.  All i can think is what did I do to my self. Why did I do this? my first nurse was ok but I didn't have to deal with her much cuz i was in and out. the second nurse was kinda like a super doushe.. i might look cool and all but I don't use drugs, and please stop telling me about being a drug seeker. I just had surgery on my guts bro. it's not like i'm coming off the street with a false reason to grab a quick fix. yes i told him in several different ways. This fool had me swallow full pills they wont go down he said have more water. Ok i'm in fear of my tummy not absorbing these well i've barely eaten at this point. not only that he keeps on telling me if i don't poop i wont be able too go home . ( that was false) So I asked him for some pain killers again and he began again with the drug seeking yar yar... He came back with a needle from "Planet Gigantar" wielding it like a sword and told me it will have to go in intra muscular, and he assured me that he was a great shot. I'm like"way way way way wait" isnt there some thing else?????  Yes he said i have Toradol. it is a non narcotic...  ok put that away and give me Toradol.. Will it work?  He said we shall see.  the Toradol worked better then the Norco.  the Norco made me feel awful.  even though i begged and pleaded for Torodol to follow me home ; they don't have it in liquid or pill form only for use in IV.  I just really wanted to be out of the hospital. My kids are with my friend so my surgeon calls and said i will be going home soon i also asked him about the poop thing and if i can get a go home of Toradol not the norco. He told me the same thing ****** bag did . Ive been at  the hospital all dang day, and all the nurses tired of me whining hearing me nagging about going home.. all of a sudden a very Sheikish/Mangoish doctor comes in all man Sassy, and very appalled at the incompetent staff he has to work with hee hee, and informs me that they had dropped the ball.. he had an order in for me for the morning to get my upper gi and that he needed that so he could release me this afternoon, but Nooooo, and he apologized for the inconveniences due to the staff at the nurses desk.  He also told me that if radiology dosen't get to me soon i will have to stay. POOF...... He was gone like a genie in a bottle.  So they wheel me down to radiology.. the to radiologists were low key bickering as to who needs to do who's job. " stay in your own like man". lol ok back to me .. I was tripping because i was just there a few days before doing the pre-op fluoroscopy  i had to drink a lot of contrast.  I told the East Indian guy that i just had surgery he said oooh.. it will be ok..  I aid no its not the nurse back there said no NPO that means nothing by mouth right? he leaves comes back with this contrast takes 2 containers, and he is mixing and the lil fat dude with meat/ onion breath very heavy and lingering is telling me if i don't take the contrast I probably wont be going home tonight. The faster you do this the faster we can get you home... Ok i did it  now i know how much my tummy can possibly tolerate. Also when we got back to the room about 20 min later i did my first lil poopy, and signed my discharge papers. everything is done. I am cordially wheeled to the lobby, and my bestie lovingly waiting for me in her lovely Toyota Siennia...  Also if you think that you will be on a vacation and getting your rest on at the hospital?  No you will not .. hey if the phlebotomist comes by more then 1 time a day say  Oooh nah nah.. I had my blood 4 hours after surgery then at 4 am the next morning. Then a crazy lady came thru about 5 hours later with her lil box a vials  i go wait i just got my blood drawn.. She says are you sure? im like Ooooh here we go again..  Yes i am sure. she looks at her paper work.. Are you sure whats your name? Birth date? do you have a room mate?  Bing, Bing ,and No.  Shes like let me check your file ill be back. She comes back, and says; your right i should'a checked.  So it may seem like i'm very demanding... I have to question everything because some of the things they do there are real unnecessary. while you try to rest and relax they will wake you or disturb you every hour every 45 min every hour  every hour and a half. its either them or the IV beeper or you got to use the bathroom or your surgery site is hurting, and you cant sleep because of the pain an some ****** nurse wants to play games..

  17. Hey all had the sleeve on 10/14, just got put on pureed and I am struggling to get it down. The food keeps getting stuck. Making me nauseous. Do I need to puree it longer? I switch to soft foods on Thursday and I am not sure I will be able to eat anything. I feel like I will live on cream soup for the rest of my life lol. Sent from my SM-N981U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. My surgery is tomorrow, it doesn't seem real. I did the liquid diet for two weeks no problem, no cravings, lost 26lbs. The only part of the post-op diet that bothers me is pureed. The thought of chicken or meat in a blender makes me ill, not doing it. I will live on applesauce and cottage cheese. If anyone has other suggestions, I'll take them. I am not telling anyone about my surgery outside of two extremely close friends and family. I was hired work from home in April, the camera in my laptop doesn't work (Alleluia!) so no one at work has ever seen me, my manager hired me without an interview. So they do not know how huge I am and they certainly aren't going to know about this. Too much fat prejudice out there and not their business anyway. To the hospital I am taking the clothes on my back, my phone and charger, insurance/debit cards, toothbrush, comb and warm robe. I am praying for a smooth recovery with no complications. I am only taking off 4 days from work. I don't feel comfortable with more since this is a new job and I am a contractor hoping to be hired full time. I'm open to advice, etc. Thanks to everyone who has posted about their surgeries and for all the advice given here! Hopefully I will be able to put diabetes in remission after 15 years and an amputated toe, as well as kick high blood pressure.

    Revision not enough weight loss.

Yes, I did go through the stages again. I was losing a good amount in the beginning. I dropped 60 lbs with the revision. Ive just put a little back on since 8 months ago. I put back on 10 of those. Ive been told it could be from me having 2 more surgeries since then, but am worried so trying to make sure i stay on track. I went through the stages however, i want to say not to get discouraged for there isnt huge changes like there was with the first one. It also took a bit more of a toll on me for i have gotten older since the last one. One great thing this time was no drain hoses. Dont know if you experienced those , but they are terrible.

    Anyone November 2020

I am scheduled for a revision surgery on 11/19/20, I am on my 14 day pre-diet. I dont have to do the liquid diet but just a low carb, high protein diet. I am mentally ready to get this over with in order to feel better. I have started prepping for my pureed diet once I get home from the hospital. I am freezing pureed food so that I can be ready to have meals on hand. Its been 7 yrs since my sleeve so I have to get my mind wrapped around how it was when i got home from the hospital. Good look to everyone on this journey

    November 2020 sleevers

Ran out of the OR room! Hi everyone! I’m new here. My sleeve date was 11/6/20 however I’m not sleeved. I was/am excited, terrified, anxious, nervous... now I’m stuck. Here’s what happened.. I showed up at 5:30am I was taken back , given an IV in my hand and a shot in my stomach... then the nurse put an extra something something in my IV.. I was told it was Ritalin. Well after 10 mins I began feeling 🥵 hot, suffocated, itchy, and terrified! I began looking around to see if it was only me and as everyone else looked fine I quickly realized it was something they gave me. I called the nurse over to me and politely asked her to remove the IV I was leaving. I was calm on the outside but freaking out on the inside!! I couldn’t tell them what I was feeling I just wanted to 🏃🏽‍♀️ run!! I needed fresh air and fast!! Whatever they gave me magnified my fears 1000% ! But now I’m at a loss 🤦🏽‍♀️ and a little depressed about the entire ordeal. I don’t what to do now. Has this happened to anyone? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Weight loss post op

9 pounds in less than two weeks is good. I lost 10 pounds in the first two weeks so I was about the same and I was well over 300 pounds. Trust me, you're doing good! But, try not to set unrealistic expectations. It's not healthy to expect to drop 30+ pounds every month. Some months you'll lose less than others. The first six months you'll lose the most, but your weight loss WILL slow down. I'm 9 months out. Last month I lost 4 pounds, but this month we're only 9 days in and I've already lost 5 pounds. And stalls WILL happen! You can't avoid them. But when they happen I just look at my weight loss since surgery and it stresses me out less. I've lost 109 pounds since my surgery. I'm probably losing slower than most due to thyroid issues and not being able to exercise like a normal person, but it's still coming off even if it's slow. Try not to stress through your first stall when it happens. It'll pass.

Hi and welcome. I had surgery 5 days ago and I’ll be honest, these first days have been rough. I definitely have pain and vomiting. And terrible nausea from the gases they pump into you during surgery. My medical team say this is totally normal and by day 10-14 all of this should pass but I wish I had been more prepared for this part beforehand. I don’t tell you this to scare you just to let you know it is major surgery and the recovery is substantial. But in the positive side I’m already down 10 pounds! I do think once this initial period of recovery has passed it will be smooth sailing. Flying is scary right now! But keep your mask on and maybe wear gloves. I know you will be fine. Best of luck!
  25. The co-morbidity factors (high blood and cpap) is what made up my mind. I’m same height and weight as you. I just didn’t feel comfortable anymore, clothes didn’t fit, and I had zero energy. I was very athletic when younger, but as my weight increased my activity decreased. I yo-yo dieted for the last 10 years and decided I needed help with portion control so I opted for VSG. I’m down 36lbs (Surgery 10/19/20) with a goal of 200. With working out, this is a health weight for me I think. Please know, this is life altering in many ways. You will lose weight if you follow instructions. You will not be able to eat like before without causing harm to yourself. I never realized how strong a food addiction I had until after surgery.
