  1. Hi everyone, I am 5 weeks, almost 6 weeks since my gastric bypass. I did have an IUD put in on day 9 and haven't stopped bleeding. That might be TMI but it might help explain some things. After week 2, I got down to 261lbs. I was 283 in the hospital after surgery. I did really well. Now I'm up to 266.5. Some daily info on me is my BMR is 1962.85, I use about 2,777 calories a day, I take in about 60 to 70 oz of water, and I eat about 800 calories a day. Why am I gaining weight? I've been around this weight for the last 3 weeks. I've heard of stalls, but a 3 week stall right out of the gate? Am I failing at weight loss surgery? As far as exercise, I haven't been released to do anything besides walk, and I could be better at that. I will get on that actually, going to try to hit the gym tomorrow and get back on track with that. My food looks like this: Morning: Protein shake with 20g protein, 9 carbs, 7g fiber, 2g sugar (I have to use plant based for it to not come back up) I add 8oz of almond milk and decaf coffee. I use very low fat low sugar almond milk with 30 calories. Lunch: either 2 pieces of sliced turkey with 2 pieces of thin sliced cheese or Tuna or Greek Yogurt and a baby bel Snack: light baby bel Dinner: Usually the same as lunch, however, I haven't been tolerating much for dinner very well so I have had two night of cherrios and almond milk for a total of 130 calories. I was released to eat cold cereals as long as they have less than 3g of sugar. I will take any advice, any dinner advice, any work out advice. Please help a momma out!!! Thanks
  2. Okay, TMI Alert. I made it down to 150.9 just a few days ago. A weight I know I haven't been in a zillion years. Then, I get my cycle and I know there's going to be a little weight there, but I'm freaking out that I'm doing something wrong. It's up to 153.1 this morning. I'm hoping that that's all it is, is because of my cycle and it should be. It's taken me oh, so long to get back to this weight, that I'm just worried. I feel like I'm doing great with my food restriction. And I'm being honest that I did treat myself to two Cookies yesterday, but how many ladies would not eat something we're not supposed to at 'that time of the month'? I'm drinking a lot of water/liquid, but had to slack off on the exercise due to a leg/foot injury. I am doing what I can without doing legs. Ladies, I'm interested how you handle things/what happens to you, when you're on your cycles. Does the same weight thing happen to you and how long does it take to drop back off? I'm hoping in a couple days, that the scale starts back down again.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

Well TMI, but I hadn't gone potty in a few days. Maybe there was just a lot to come out. It was too nasty for words.
  4. Hey all! So I started my journey back in June of 2015 - slacked a little bit - and am getting back on track as I know this is going to be the only thing to help me. I have done most of my appointments (have my last heart clearance next week) and then I just need my final appointment with my surgeon and all the insurance junk! I have 3 kids (7,3 and 9 months) with little to no support from my hubby when it comes to the surgery. Terrified of what is to come, but excited nonetheless. Anybody interested in an easygoing buddy with a sense of humor that isn't afraid of all the weird TMI stuff that needs to be talked about? Good luck to all
  5. I was sleeved 10/15 also. I had liquid bowel movement a little last night but a lot today....I am drinking lots of fluid. Was up to 52ozs yesterday will make 64oz today with no problem.. Nothing is TMI anymore!!!!!!
  6. Liquid BM but that is to be expected right? liquids in liquids out? It's was once last night and once this morning. I am getting in about 44oz of Water adding more G2 today just in case this is diarreha I don't want to get dehydrated. I'm hoping it is just my body's way of getting my small and large intestines back in the grove of things....moving!! I am eating no solids and plan to only follow my Doc's lead to avoid long term problems. Thanks! Pre surgery weight: 236 Day of surgery: 224 5 days post op: 223.4 and still bloated

    Think Oprah has given up?

Well there are many people who have thought that it was the yo yoing of weight that was the most unhealthy part anyway. Dieting and having weight go down and back up again and dieting and down and up and up and down is very bad for you. If you find a way not to do that and it works for you fine. Not everyone can. You can even read here where people have gained weight after the band so it's not a perfect solution either. Health and size is very individual also. One person can be 200 lbs and be much healthier than a person who is 125 lbs and have less body fat. You can't make blanket statements about fat. We have fat on our bodies for a reason. You are told that fat is unhealthy and that is why you're able to have the surgery performed and covered by insurance but most people are having it done for esthetic reasons and I was one of them so don't play that it's only to be healthier card that's a load of bs in my HO. Like I said I don't expect most people to agree with me as I'm stating a different point of view. I also became unhealthier after the surgery so that's a possibility too. High cholesterol, high blood pressure and my type 2 diabetes became much worse, acid reflux. I suppose I can include constipation and hemorrhoids if you don't consider that TMI but I'm sure it's all coincidental. Oprah is not going to tell people to have surgery when she herself does not have it. That would be crazy! Nanook:smile:

    Skin shrinkage

To post in the vets forum it's a combination of a year out and a certain number of posts on the board (100 I think). As for skin... I have no knowledge except what I have read here and elsewhere and what my docs have said. I am at (below) goal and intend to wait a year out to see where that leaves me. I am surprised actually... I am 45 and have been heavy my whole life and obese at least 16 years and my skin is still shrinking. It still needs help, but is still making progress. For a TMI example---my boobs are now the lump in a hanging sock variety...BUT in the last two months my nipples have gone from pointing downwards to pointing back forwards! Honestly never thought I would see that!
  9. Sorry in advance for TMI, but I got my sleeve done Sept 15th. Didn't have a BM for one week. After a week I needed an enema. Then for the next 3 days unexpected explosive diarrhea. Then constipated again. Two days ago severe diarrhea and now I am so constipated things are stuck. Any suggestions? I'm afraid to take a stool softener because of the diarrhea.

    Cold Medicine?

Hey All- I'm here w/ yet another medicine question for you all. Calling the doctor tomorrow- but I really need to take something. I'm a year post-op & this is the first time I am sick! I appear to have a nasty cold. Stuffy yet running nose & I'm hacking colors of the rainbow out of my lungs...yeah sorry probably TMI. Can we take things like Day-Quil or Nigh-quil? I'm dying here! Worse part- my port area is tender from my coughing so much & so hard, that has me alittle nervous. :smile2: Any input is greatly appreciated!

    Side pain...looking for input

My side pain took a turn for the worst last night. I went to bed with the left side pain. The pain started to get intense and before I knew what hit me it had radiated all around my abdomen! It was across my abdomen below my chest and all the way around my back. I slimmed like a faucet! (sorry tmi). The pain subsided and the slimming stopped so I went back to bed. 5 min later this whole episode repeated itself only the pain was worst than the first time. I woke my husband up who kept asking me to explain what was going on. I couldn't talk, it hurt to talk. Again it subsided and I went back to bed. I told my husband if it happened again to call an ambulance that I couldn't tolerate another episode. We just laid there waiting.... I woke up this morning and haven't had another episode but the left pain is still here. I called today and Iam going in at 1pm. I will let you know what they say!! Iam scared. I don't want anything to be wrong with my band. THIS SUCKS.
  12. to those of you post op who had sleep apnea and cpap/bipap machines….. Did your sleep apnea improve? How long/how much weight before it did? Did you stop using your machine/when? i am down about 50 lbs already since my in lab sleep titration test (70+ since my at home sleep study) and I was severe and needing bipap. (tmi but i was having issues with hypoxic morning migraines and sleep paralysis) I hate my machine but like not getting hypoxic at night so I still wear it. Just went to sleep dr and they were not really helpful with the question. said I would need to loose “significant” weight before I would need retesting or come off the machine, kinda discounting my loss so far… said if i had a “miraculous” weight loss over the next few months to call, otherwise they would see me in a year. Just wanted to hear experiences from everyone, but especially high bmi peeps thanks!!
  13. I want to feel my dgt wrap her arms around my waist and hug me tight for the first time in her 6 yrs. I want to ride a rollercoaster again! I want to get married and not have to wear a girdle under my dress, and on my honeymoon I want my husband to carry me over the threshold, strip we down, LOVE what he sees,(my guy and I are waiting until we get maried to make love. He's never seen me naked!) and make love to me standing up...ok TMI! LOL! I just want to to be the young woman that I am, and be here to enjoy getting old with my beautiful child, and the man who loves me! By God's grace I know this will happen!

Sick in so many ways, need a female's advice.

Thank you JBooze, I've been googling myself to death looking for reasons for my malady. I searched gallbladder attacks and gallstones, I don't think I fall into any of those categories. But thanks for caring! I was told to have a colonoscopy by my PCP-OB/GYN. I go for them every two years, as colon cancer runs in my family. But I stopped having them done in 06. I had to boss my med team around (something I am NOT accustomed to!) to get me a colonoscopy ASAP, the Gods weren't having it. I booked with two different gastroenterologist's, just to see who could see me first. I now have an appt for an office visit in mid April, and an an appt for the test on April 19 (I think ) with my fave gastro...! Not looking forward to it, but I was told to do it, I should have been doing it all along and I want to know the results. The test isn't so bad, but the prep is not fun at all! IDK, my problems shift, sort of. My abdomen still hurts and is still bloated most of the time, my stools are inconsistent (TMI?) and my back pain has broadened and the pain is through the roof! If it weren't for the Lortabs I'm on, I'd not make it through my easy, pt work day, or very mild housework! I'm so disillusioned and wondering if I've lost my mind. I never get sick, not even colds...but this? Wow.

Good luck to Feb 1 Surgeries!!

Hi ladies. I am feeling a lot better today. The difference from Friday is amazing. I am not going back to work yet since I still need a couple days. I lay on the couch and then get up and do laps around the house. Most of my gas is right in my chest. Have you guys been able to eat? I only had water on Fri, water and maybe 8oz of skim milk yesterday and today I had some water, green tea, and 2 oz of soup. Even though my stomach is growling, I feel so bloated that I don't feel like eating. I am forcing myself to have more soup later. Are you guys getting your 64oz of water in? I can't get anywhere near that right now. By the way, I've never been so happy to need to pass gas! Ok here comes the major tmi, have you ladies had a BM? I haven't and starting to wonder if I should start taking something like MOM - I just don't want worse gas cramps. Let me know and good luck to the ladies going tomorrow!!!! WE CAN DO THIS!
  17. Haven't seen a list quite like this, so I hope it is helpful for someone. All of these are available on Amazon. While I'm obese and now just after post op, I've used a toilet tissue holder to get back all the way to clean. It looks like a giant kitchen utensil, but it was recommended to me after ankle surgery last year. A similar item on Amazon is called a long reach comfort wipe. Another helpful item is a reacher. It's like a claw with a trigger. It's helpful for getting dressed post-op and to pick up items from the floor. One more indispensable item is a portable pole. On Amazon search for a mobility pole. I have the standers security pole and grab bar installed temporarily next to our toilet. Molly (10/2/13)

    Sushi

@@sarahbethemails Rice was not on my plan. Carbs were limited until I lost 75% of my weight.. I'm in maintenance. Rice seems to bloat me up. (TMI) I love California rolls. In a food processor i mixed crab meat, carrot cucumber and cilantro. To a chunky consistency, I mixed olive oil mayo to create a salad. I stuff it in a small avocado. its not shashimi. but I love sushi.
  19. I, too, had several gallbladder attacks and after the third painful one over the course of a year, I finally relented and scheduled a cholecystectomy. Prior to the surgery, I noticed tan/beige colored oily stools (sorry if TMI). I contacted my surgeon who had me come right in. He indicated that was a symptom of pancreatitis. After a 9-day hospital stay with acute pancreatitis, it finally resolved and I was able to have my gallblader removed. After the surgery, I was still experiencing pain in my right side and it radiated to my back as well. I talked to the surgeon and he said that some patients experience "ghost" pain for up to a year after surgery that could be caused by nerve endings that were damaged during surgery. Luckily, for me, he was right and the pain went away. Related to the surgery, I've heard that some experience back pain that could also be caused by a partially blocked bile duct. Other non-gallbladder related causes should be ruled out as well. Good luck.
  20. I am glad you are feeling better and that the Pea protein is working for you. As far as having the runs in the hospital.. girl let me tell you. The morning of my last day I was able to relieve gas for the first time since surgery and I was happy because I thought it would let me get rid of the gas pain... and it did. But boy I was NOT prepared for what was to come. Sorry for the TMI but the first time I was going to make a bowel movement I was embarrassed because I didn't want these nurses that I had gotten to know to walk into the bathroom and see it (they put measured bowls in the toilet) and it was in thy moment that I had to decided whether I was gonna sh*t my pants or in the bowl. I physically had to get over that worry because the rest of my last day was ALL that. I couldn't wait to be discharged so I could do it in my own home LOL! My point is, is that you will be fine! Just keep listening to your body [emoji23][emoji1]

  22. Hey kids, I'm 4 days post op. I have had severe pain in my left side since waking in recovery. Everyday it get's a little better, but it is always there. It's a bit swollen, and the incision indents~ I have been walking with difficulty. Drinking, and taking in calories just fine. I have had some gas, a few times, nothing major. I have had no vomiting and very little nausea. But man my abdomen HURTS! I have to sleep sitting up, I still need help getting up if the furniture is too low, or I got too comfy. I can't bend over, I can barley (TMI WARNING) wipe myself after tinkling! Will this go away soon?? I do still have the JP drain in, but its in the middle of my tummy, not on the left side where I hurt so much. Did anyone else go through this kind of pain, or is it everyone and no one really talks about it? lol... I haven't seen much about it anywhere. Thanks!
  23. Yes I did take it easy.... The day after surgery, I tried to get up for a couple of hours and mingle with the family but I didn't feel too well. I think I was trying to do to much to soon. So I laid back down and slept till about 6pm, and then went for a walk around the block, and as soon as I got back. (get ready for TMI) I had my frist bowel movement, and I felt like I was going to die. I broke out in a hot sweat, and wanted to run from the toilet area. But I took it like a champ and it was smooth sailing. I finally passed some gas and was able to lie down and go back to sleep. Now on my third day, I went to the hospital and visited with my sister in law, and now back in the bed. But there is something thats bothering me. Yesterday, my mom told me to, "get up right now and go walking and stop laying around." Well when I walked in from going to visit my sister in law she said, ""Moving around any better today?" , and mocked how I had been walking around. So I had to at that point give her a piece of my mind. I was appalled, because she has had her share of surgeries and I was there for her like no other. For three days post surgery, I think I am doing pretty damn good! Just had to rant!
  24. I got sleeved last thursday, 3/29. I started my period on saturday night. It's not typical that my 'time of the month' is ever on time, so I was suprised when it came because I wasn't expecting it for a week or two. I do suffer from PSOC (polycystic ovarian syndrome). So I have been in a lot of pain also with the pain of recovering from the surgery. My main concern is the ammount that I'm bleeding & the big clots that I'm having. I usually get lighter by the 3rd day & am done with it on the 4th. But I'm having no such luck. It's just as bad as when it started. Any suggestions why? or any need to call my doctor? Thanks =)
  25. Yep, it's been a while... a crazy month but here I am... almost a month since my last post and a full week post-op! So, I'm going to try to give the short version of my month because I'll be up typing all night if I don't (it's currently midnight!). In my last blog, I believe everything had just been submitted... I got denied twice! Yep you read it right... twice! I guess those idiots didn't know who they were saying no to! They tried to tell me that I wasn't sick enough and that I didn't do my nutrition... blah blah blah... at one point I actually cited Maryland law which requires them to cover the procedure based on my issues . I am known as the queen of arguing but they didn't know that... neither did the chic from my doc's office that kept givin me the run around til I emailed her boss LOL. Long story short... I was sleeved on the 16th even with two denials! So... after my approval... I tried to do my pre-op diet... really I did, but I had less than two weeks between approval and surgery and I seriously worked over 80 hours a week to make sure everything I was responsible for was done before I went out and the stress of that combined with no food caused major migraines so I ate. I ate significantly less, but I ate. One week to the day before surgery, I had a miscarriage... I didn't know I was pregnant until I lost it (I have an IUD so this was not supposed to happen)... I also didn't know you could mourn a child you didn't know you were pregnant with (I learned several things that week)... A visit to the ER explained that my IUD slipped out (it's in but out so not providing protection which is how I got pregnant) and I have a major fibroid . The miscarriage only caused minor problems with my sugery (the anesthesiologist refused to move forward due to my positive preg test from the week prior even after I explained the miscarriage - the staff OB/GYN cleared me for surgery and we moved on). I was terribly stressed prior to surgery due to some of the things people have posted on here... I cried all through pre-surg prep b/c of this. Apparently my surgery was text book despite my having failed miserably at the pre-op diet... do not use this as your idicator though... I believe I got lucky (God feeling I've had a bad enough month)... I did not get a pain pump post-op and the first nurse was being stingy with drugs. Also, my body does not like to pee after anesthesia so I could not go without pushing which was not fun... especially with limited pain meds. I also kept getting horrible hiccups that made me want to die but I survived the night. I didn't sleep much yet the time passed. I left the hospital the next day around 3 p.m. My post-op diet involved 2 days of clears and now I'm on full liquids. I've been healing well so I'm tolerating shakes, yogurt, soups, and I'm hungry pretty quick. From posting and reading, I know this is normal but that doesn't make it suck any less . As for the TMI section of this... farting post op was really hard to do! It really helped to walk to move the gas and to get on all fours if it wouldn't pass (sounds weird but I found this on google when it was hurting bad and it worked LOL). I'm a week out and I still haven't done anything beyond pee in the toilet... tonight I drank a laxative tea and am hoping it works... I know I'm putting stuff in there but I'm wondering what's happening to it . Last thing and I'm signing off... It's 12:20 now so I'm doing awesome! I know I've lost weight... I've weighed myself and I've already seen one physical change. I have my first official post op appointment tomorrow though so I'm going to wait until then to update my weight on here so stay tuned. I'm also hoping to get to move on to mushies early tomorrow since I'm starving and tolerating things so well (he said it was a possibility before the sugery). Good night fellow sleevers and those lurking as I once was .
