    Weird Rash

I can relate to these posts. When I had my first band placed, a day or two out of the hospital and I was at home, I discovered itchy little bumps filled with Fluid. Wouldn't you know it was a Saturday. I thought I would go insane with the itching. I also took Benydryl. Nothing I took made a difference. It was on a Sunday when it was really getting bad so I called my dermatologist, internist, and bariatric surgeon. Do not take a hot or overly warm shower. It made it worse! I would put the shower on my chest but it just pounded with pain. I was bent on going to the ER with it but my dermatologist told me to come in the following morning. I seemed to make it barely through the night without going to the ER. She treated me for the rash. I think she put my anti-biotics and a rash cream. To this day, I do not know what caused it. My doctors came up with all kinds of reasons. In my heart of hearts, I really thought I was allergic to the band! It was a foreign object and plastic that maybe my body was rejecting. I was thinking some pretty strange things. After the rash left, my internist said it could have been from being put under (the drugs they used) or the pain medication in the hospital. I took no pain medication after my surgery so that could not have been it. I have had four prior surgeries on my knees and I never had a reaction like that before. It really freaked me out. My dermatologist is the one who treated me. I went around and around on the phone with my internist. They thought maybe I caught something in the hospital. It finally went away but I will never forget that itching. I was so miserable! I would suggest if its driving absolutely mad, to go to the ER otherwise hang in there until your doctor can look at it. Good luck! Please post again to tell us how you are doing.
  3. Hello Everyone, I'm very happy to have found this forum & look forward to reading & learning from everyone's own experience. I am Susan from Upstate NY. I have just earlier this month started my journey. I have Health Republic of NY insurance and they require 6 months of nutritional education before considering approval for Bariatric Surgery. That takes me into December before my Dr. can submit me for approval. Kind of disappointed, was hoping I wouldn't have to wait so long. Does anybody else have Health Republic of NY insurance? Was wondering how long it took for others with this insurance to get their answer after they were submitted by their Dr. ?

ER trip to rule out blood clot

I added magnesium citrate to my supplements. I had no idea that there were so many forms of magnesium. https://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/types-of-magnesium/ Despite, what is said in this article, when it comes to the bariatric community, the form that works best for us is magnesium citrate. Take magnesium with calcium for better absorption. My cramp hasn't improved yet, btw. I hope the magnesium helps soon if that's the cause for my pain.
  5. Does anyone from the Boise area have any idea if the St Lukes Bariatric doctors have certain days they do surgeries and certain days they are in clinic? I am wondering if Dr Valentine has a schedule. I will be having surgery the end of May and was hoping that I could have it on a Monday or Tuesday, but someone told me that certain doctors have certain days they schedule surgeries on and that my doctor usually does them on Thursdays and Fridays
  6. I had DS surgery June 12 and felt slight soreness, nothing unusual, felt ready to 24 hours laterPOD 1...then it hit with a ton of bricks, POD 2, excruciating pain, high heart rate and inability to walk.. had a cat scan it was negative for leak... POD3my surgeon wasn’t convinced and Wanted too keep me to see how I was feeling wasn’t quite up to par but pain controlled still walking, every 3 hours slow but steady..POD4 woke up with fever103.9 and heart in 120’s. Plan was exploratory lap 2 hours later, came out of OR with 3 drains and a NGT to decompress stomach and a PCA..for pain control, he found a teeny tiny leak, restitched it and covered with muscle. Washed the cavity hence the drains. Now on antibiotics and fluids...And another week here in the hospital. The upside I have a great team of nurses and docs at a nationally accredited metabolic and Bariatric center... I’m getting awesome care. I read so much research studies and articles prior to the DS I knew the switch has more complications but greater results! The benefits outweigh the risks .... peace and live my bench buddies !

    Am I being unrealistic?

After I lost 100 lbs. from a stomach stapling, I too looked at obese people with some contempt. All of a sudden I was queen of health and told people that I'll never be fat again. Well fast forward a couple decades and now I'm looking at bariatric surgery again. Unfortunately for me eating crow is not my cup of tea.

    Vitamin Suggestions

I have been taking the Bariatric Advantage ones. I do like the Viactiv Calcium, so maybe I'll try their multis as well...the liquids didn't do well with me either! I'm usually not bad with these kinds of things, but I find that I'm avoiding taking them and I don't want to do that!

    Vitamin Suggestions

I am taking the bariatric advantage as well. They are grainy, but since I'm still on a liquid diet, it gives me something to chew! One thing I would say to all you Viactiv women. Viactiv is Calcium carbonate. Calcium citrate is better absorbed and better for us. BA has a chocolate tab that is Calcium Citrate. Now, I talked with my dietician about this and she didn't think it was a problem, but everything I read and the bariatric nurse that works with my dr. all agree that the Citrate is better, so I'm sticking with it. Especially since I'm hitting 50 soon.

    Post op vitamins

I got Celebrate chewables and they taste horrible and the Calcium vit. were huge however I was stuck with them because I didn't want to waste them. They were not expensive and I think they were like a 60 and 90 day supply. Before I even had my surgery my nutritionist and the bariatric nurse were telling us that for some people the liquid vitmans worked best. So once I was out of my 1st supply I got the liquid multi and calcium Vitamin and I have been using that every since and its by welless. Now celebrate also has these like candy chewable Vitamins and the caramel and chocolate tatse just like candy. Hope this helps.
  13. I agree the bariatric advantage gave me terrible gas and diarrhea and the unjury I thought were gross and too sweet. It took me a long time to find the right fit!

    Overeating issues!

You'll do better when you get your next fill....that first one usually doesn't do much for anybody. The thing that helped me at that point (and still does) is using a really good Protein drink that I like....now I would just as soon have a good Protein Delight or Matrix shake as a Dairy Queen milkshake. It satisfies the sweet craving as well as the actual hunger. But makes sure you are using one that is designed for bariatric patients (lo carb, hi protein), not the kind designed for athletes, body builders. (bariatriceating.com carries good stuff).
  15. Thanks so much HeatherO, Travelinsnorkel, and Lellow!!! You have renewed my hope and I will call my doctor's office today to see how soon they can see me. I guess I really don't know what true restriction feels like yet so I was a bit apprehensive that I will not ever know what that feels like. I will stay focued and see what happens. Thanks again for all of your insight. :yikes:
  16. This is a quick question, I'm rereading my letter to meet the surgeon and says "initial assessment for bariatric surgery" I'm from the UK so may be different from other places but does anyone know what this means/what I'll have to have done? I'm just so nervous, I feel like I just need to know everything when meeting them.
  17. So I was going to get surgery in mexico last year but had to bail on the idea because of some things that happened within my family. I contacted the Bariatric Hospital MX and had approval for the surgery but I'm not sure if im jumping the gun in the process. Can anyone share with me there experience and how they handled it start to finish as far as what if anything they involved there PCP doc in the process, Work leave, Short term disability. I am an Automotive Shop Foreman for a living and I have this irrational fear of being away from my job for a month +. Trying to figure out how to handle all of this is what is stopping me from moving forward at this point and I need all the help I can get. Thanks.
  18. Definitely file an appeal and also let your surgeon's office know what's going on. They obtained pre-authorization I'm sure, so they probably have documentation that can help. It makes no sense to approve a surgery and then deny the hospital stay associated with it (two days is not an unreasonable stay for bariatric surgery). Also check with the hospital business office and let them know. There may be something wrong with how they submitted the claim. They want to get paid, so it's in their interest to help you sort this out. Sorry this is happening, it's stress you don't need. But there's a good chance that decision can be reversed. Good luck!
  19. So it's that time of year where we get poked a lil harder for that weekly insurance premium because our insurance blows and we have to pay more and more each year. My question is, does anyone know of an individual plan with any insurance company that covers lapband. Sad to say, that is my goal to find an Insurance company that covers it and then I can drop my insurance at work! $62.00 a week for insurance is a little steep for not covering weight loss and after months of emailing back and forth to see if they would add the policy, they say no because it will cause our premiums to go higher....HELLOOOO!?!? Any guidance in the direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Ronda

    pre-op clearances

This is my experience too...I have been busy doing tons of tests, evaluations, and specialist visits, I'm assuming the insurance will cover all of them...since my insurance covers weight loss surgery. I have not even had my consultation with surgeon yet...My understanding is that once your primary gives the referral to bariatric program, that's enough to get the ball rolling...and for these visits & tests, they have only collected my co-pay.
  21. My insurance would have covered 80% of bariatric surgery IF the Dr bills in network. I didn't know they paid nothing for out of network billing. so I paid $3500.00 to the surgeon. I paid $1,400 to the hospital for my percent of Billed in network charges. and I paid about $1,000 more in misc fee's to other dr's , anastelogiost, ect. My fills cost my $350.00 each for now. So having insurance for me was a great help even tho if didn't cover the surgeons fee.
  22. ughhhh...Ladies seek the counsel of your surgeon, bariatric nurse, dietician and psychologist (if applicable) Their experience and advice hopefully will help you. Bingeing is an illness for many on top of obesity and therefore your situation should not be taken lightly. Good luck
  23. Wow, this is just overwhelming.:phanvan You'll survive these next days, taterbugs but you have to really focus. For right now, try liquids & mushees only. Don't irritate the band with anything tough, dry or fibrous/crunchy (not even salad :cry ) Get yourself some Gas-X or any Simethicone-based tablets. Try at least 125 to 200 mg worth of simethicone to keep the slime down. In fact, any kind of Rolaids Maximum Strength-type chewables that have both calcium (to soak up the acid) and Simethicone (to prevent the fluidy sliming will probably give you some real relief fast. You need something to handle the acid heartburn and something to prevent the 'fluids coming up the esophagus' thing. If you follow these steps and don't further irritate your band, this should get you a couple of days of enough relief to keep you out of the ER. Then go immediately when you find someone in South Carolina. My first suggestion - find a Bariatric surgeon that does LapBand in your new area. Immediately - one that's in South Carolina, where you'll be back in a few days. Start making those Long Distance calls now so you'll have someone lined up when you get back home ASAP. Don't bother with the Atlanta surgeons now - you'll probably really need someone who will follow you long-term. When you say you've been "filled & unfilled" - where are you now? And also when you say you were unfilled due to "distended" band - are you saying it was dilitated, expanded, changed position? Can you describe it for us? Check the Phone Directories, check ObesityHelp website, do a Google search but find a LapBand doc in SC as soon as you possibly can.

Looking for info about Dr. Tersigni in Oregon

I live in florence and Coos Bay is just a hop away from here. There is a clinic in Eugene that does the Lap Band, but there is no way I am going there, I have never hear a thing from them, but I have hear things about this clinic in Coos Bay that they are great, and I have seen results. they have a great website Bay Bariatrics - Steve Tersigni, MD - Coos Bay, Oregon Ofcourse I have not made even my first appointment yet, but I did called and they are sending me an information packet. They have a special for December for 10,000. Unfortunally I can't have mine until January, I want the Hollidays to be over, and I am self pay so even if I probably will have it all by then, I am not wanting to deal with the tax part of it until then. But if the price goes up quite a bit more after Christmas, I might decide to pay it and just go for it. I will be making my appointment probably next week to talk to him about all this and meet him. Denise, was wondering how fast does the process from getting ready to the actually surgery goes? I am nervous, I knew I wanted to do this a few months ago, but it has been in the last two months that I finally decided for sure and told my husband,, I been saving since and I will have it I know in one month. I have two little kids with autism, I need to have energy, and this is not on ly for them, but for me  well,, anywho, I said enough lol, for now :faint:
