    What's grandma's secret?

They sell skin brighteners at drug stores. My mom has something that is to brighten skin from sun damage and age spots. She got it at sephora I think. Maybe try there or Clinique? Or you could go with Michael Jackson's method of skin bleaching. I know this may be tmi but people get their anus bleached. Maybe talk to a salon. ??
  2. I had to do 2 weeks Pre-Op diet of mostly liquids and staying below 500-700 calories each day. Yesterday and today I have had to be on clear liquids, sop that only gets me to around 80 calories each day since I can't have sugar, carbs, fat, etc. Tonight I get to do the awesome cleanse (TMI I know as well), but not sure what it will accomplish since I haven't had anything but liquids. lol.
  3. Well, I finally called my PA and told her that I've been having a problem for the last 10 days. So now I have to go in tomorrow and get an unfill. I'm sorta bummed, but I know it's the right thing to do. I ate some scrambled eggs 10 days ago, and they got really stuck -- so bad that I vomited them up (sorry TMI). This is the first time that has happened. And it happened so fast, it was scary! So, the next day I stayed on liquids and soft foods like yogurt, but since then, I can barely eat anything without it getting stuck. Everything hurts. And, my acid reflux, which had gone away (after 15 years of misery), has come back, which is no fun.:w00t: And the irony of it all is that I was just starting to feel restriction that kept me full between meals. Bummer. Now I'm going to go back to the hunger. But, I guess better that than pain. *sigh* And Sarahbellzz, I have you to thank, because if you had not gone through something similar (though much more extreme!!) I would have been less likely to call the doctor. Thanks, everyone, for letting me vent.
  4. I am 10 weeks post op. Today actually! TMI- I was straining to have a BM. And I felt a slight "pop" feeling. Freaked me out. I have a tender spot on my "stomach" area if I touch it. Being 10 weeks- I and THINKING it was just an internal dissolvable stitch I may have popped. Hoping it was already on its way out. I feel fine. I'm just having this image of I've ruined everything. My pouch is ripped at some point. Surely 10 weeks it has healed but I know the dissolvable stitches can take months. Any insight??? :))
  5. Sorry if TMI. I'm having the period from hell. I'm surprised that I'm not anemic. Last night I had to eat another small meal - or felt like I really needed it. I forgot to take my Iron that day. I will take them all today. Has anybody else had this happen?

    Diarrhea and work

Thanks @FluffyChix, I'm hoping its not an infection but i don't want to be lactose intolerant either! I've got about 3 dozen different types of protein shakes that are all dairy based and i just love milk, that would be heartbreaking! We'll see what happens, whatever it is, I'm just going to have to deal with it. I'll definitely go get the raw sauerkraut or kefir, hopefully something will help it as yesterday was probably the worst day for the big D, i was literally in the restroom a few times an hour. I'm keeping hydrated tho so thats good but my bum is so sore, the medicated wipes do help. TMI! Thanks for the advice!!!

    meat feels stuck

Same here I have tried tuna fish, salmon, and chicken all very moist and flaky but I can't tolerate it at this point. A little TMI but yesterday I tossed my cookies after trying to eat some chicken and broccoli. I think I may just give up on meat in general for now. It really is not a good feeling.

  10. Ride a bike without feeling like a circus act. Better sex
  11. I started my list and then lost it, dang it! Here goes again....in no particular order. 10. Perform personal hygiene without being a contortionist (TMI I know, sorry) 9. Going to get-togethers and not being embarrassed in front of my daughter's in-laws. 8. Getting off my blood pressure meds. 7. Climbing into bed without having to hook up to the CPAP machine. 6. Climbing stairs without getting out of breath. 5. Going up and down stairs and walking in general without knee pain (hopefully). 4. Not isolating myself in my apartment anymore. 3. Wearing normal sized, cute clothing. 2. Shopping without having to sit down. 1. Maybe dating again?
  12. Anyone else having issues with this? I just had my surgery in November and can't go without a laxative (sorry probably TMI). Does anyone have suggestions other than laxatives?
  13. Hi Jackie, I really don't know how it eroded and never even heard of a lap band erosion. I lived in California and moved to Knoxville, Tn. I didn't realize that if a doctor did not do your procedure, he will not give you any fills. So no doctor in this area would even consider me. After a couple of years and 25lbs weight gain later I found a doctor in New Orleans which is actually from TJ that flies in every three months to give fills to their patients. I drove all the way to New Orleans all excited to get a fill and on my way of losing some weight! I have the 10cc Inamed band. He said okay you are going to feel some pressure as he is filling my band to the full 10cc and got no restriction and that is when I found out it was eroded. Went locally and had an Endoscopy to confirm it. I would use my credit card if it was not maxed out! I had a great job. It was only a 2 year temporarily project and after the 2 years was up it was the worst time to get a job during recession. Which forced me to start my own business that is doing great but I have everything invested into it. I will be able to have the band removed in a year but I was hoping sooner than later! I do have some good days when I say I can live with this a bit longer but on my bad days when I have a lot of pain I want it removed yesterday! I guess i gave tmi but that is my story and it feels good to let it all out! I'm glad to see you are doing good with your lap band and I wish you lots of luck and will power to make it to your goal weight!
  14. Hi I'm new here and 21 days post-op. I've started to hate eating because it just makes me sick. I do not overeat, yet I find that sometimes after eating I get ill. But it's not in the way I've heard anyone else talk about. Instead of throwing up I go back and forth to the bathroom dealing with the other end. I know this is TMI but I really need to know if this is something anyone else goes through! I do suffer from anxiety disorder and I spent weeks before surgery convincing myself I'd be one of the people who are perfectly fine 3 wks out, unfortunately I'm not. I'm so anxious about everything I can't eat and when I'm sick it's awful. Anyone else have this issue?

    Getting Hit On After Surgery

Hmm. What an interesting topic! I think that you should ask him when you go out (if you do). "So, what made you ask me out after you have known me all this time..." Maybe leave the weight out of it and see what he says. I think that there have been great points above about this topic. I also have not dated men that are morbidly obese. I know it is a double standard and I don't know maybe if I really liked the person I would have gone out with him. Married now and my hubby has a bit of a belly but great arms and butt;). TMI I know. Gotta have some muscle though, you know? I don't think you should hold this against him. Go out and see what happens if you have a mind to. Like it was brought up before, maybe you are smiling more. Maybe you are putting yourself out there now in a way you were not before. Best of luck and go rock that sleeve;). Dee

4 days post op and confused

@ sleeveisa... that's how I feel like every time liquid goes down it hurts. I was sleeved on dec 5 and at first it was downright pain, now it's still uncomfortable but about a 4/10 pain. I was saying to myself the doc told you that the swelling plus the extremely smal diameter of your new stomach will be uncomfortable so just relax Diana.. it will get better. But I feel every liquid going down and then I feel an ache. With the weight, I have lost 9 lbs since day of surgery( 6 days ago). I feel like I wanna have a BM and nothing happens so I need to call doc to ask about miralax . I am urinating normal again. at first , sorry if this is TMI, my urine was golden and it was very loud ( odor wise).Nurse at hospital said it's because I was dehydrated and the more I'm able to drink , the more diluted my urine will become and so far she didn't lie. It is now straw yellow and there is no smell . But our body is adjusting and I know it's gonna get better for us all. My abdomen is still very sore especially my larger incision. I feel really tired also. Okay, I'm done whining, lol. On the positive side, I am drinking every 15 min 1 oz Fluid, I'm walking daily and remaining positive and no nausea as of yet. We are all gonna work this sleeve out.

    5 month update

That is awesome! I'm so happy for you. I too have a problem with taking my vitamins religiously and feel the same way. I'm 29 days post op and have lost a total of 30 lbs. and am now at a stall. It's very frusterating and I'm trying not to get on the scale everyday...lol. I've been good as far as how much I've been eating. Thank God I have not thrown up (hate it)! I've got to that "too full" feeling but that was it. I also am similar in the way that I view myself. I don't really see that 30 lbs. lost anywhere. I look in the mirror and am disgusted. I've been with my husband for almost 20 years and he has NEVER seen me naked...maybe a bit tmi but I feel like were similar in a few ways and you would understand. :-) Overall I know I made the right decision and it's going to take time and support from family, friends, and places like this.... Lynda

    Rant:Doctors and Nurses

Well I wish whoever I had to thank was in RnR. :heh: I had a spider bite once and sat in the ER throbbing in pain and my leg swelling by the minute...which turned into approximately 300 minutes to be exact...and I am sure the ER doc would not have dug into my leg nearly as far as he had to if I did not have to wait. (I know TMI). And to make matters worse they sent me the "tell us all about your visit" survey. It was none to nice. :help:
  20. Almost everything has been easier than expected. My post-surgery recovery, eating and drinking (I was hitting my protein and fluid goals before I left the hospital, and haven't thrown up or experienced nausea since surgery), keeping on plan, having regular bathroom habits (TMI but this is an issue for a lot of people on that high protein, post-WLS diet!). I did take a little longer to get my energy back than I had expected. Also, about four days post-op, I had a tiny meltdown/pity party because I thought I didn't want to be OCD about planning my meals, weighing my food, and tracking everything for the rest of my life. I just wanted to be able to eat what I want, when I want, without having to document it five ways from Sunday and consider how it would help me reach my nutritional goals. That lasted about 10 minutes and I moved on. Seriously, just about everything has been super-easy -- even the rough patches, if that makes sense. It's nothing I can't deal with.
  21. First thing I want to say is, the surgery is not for the faint of heart. I've had 2 c-sections, and gallbladder removal surgery so I kind of knew what I was getting in to. If you've never had surgery just be prepared, there is quite a bit of pain in your abdomen, and the worst is geting up out of the bed every time you go to the restroom, which is very frequently since they are giving you fluids through an IV. So, put on your Brave face and tackle it head on, you can do this!! I arrived at the hospital Wednesday at 5:30am and things started happening very quickly. I got called back, changed into gown, and people started coming in, anesthesia team, nurses, and surgeon. They started my IV and gave me fluids and tylenol through IV. I vaguely remember being wheeled to the operating room, I remember one of the doctors asking if I'd like some chapstick on, and I said yes, and he rubbed some onto my lips with gauze, I thought that was very thoughtful. Next thing I knew I was barely waking up in recovery and in pain! I remember moaning and saying "it hurts, it hurts" and the nurse said they were starting in on my Dilautid drip, and I said "will it get better the more I have because it still hurts!" and she said yes. I vaguely remember being wheeled to my room, where my husband was waiting for me, and I pretty much slept the rest of the day. My mouth was dry as cotten and the nurse said usually no ice chips, but she'd call the dr. to see if I could have some. I had a few ice chips after that and a few more before bedtime. My husband left to go home for the night. I woke up at 2am puking my guts up, then dry heaving. Let me tell you, It hurts to vomit and dry heave with a stomach that was just cut open! I frantically called the nurse and they came in and gave me some phenegren, then changed the sheets, and my gown, wiped my neck and hair down (yes it had gotten everywhere!) I know you're thinking what was there in your stomach to even throw up? Well, it was bile, the dark brown stuff. *sorry if TMI* The next day went better, started me on Clear liquids, could hardly sip anything. By the end of the day I had eaten a few bites of chicken broth, and a sugar free popsicle, and a few sips of crystal light. Nurses kept me on zophran for nausea during the day and dilautid pump for pain. I pushed the pump every 10minutes to keep my pain under control. I started running a low grade fever that evening 100.5. the doctor did not want to treat it, said it was normal due to the surgery and it would go away on its own. He was right, it steadily went down every couple hours, the next morning it was 99.9 then midday, it was 98.5, so it went away by itself. That night was uneventful, I could pretty much get out of bed (without using my abs) on my own and go to the restroom. Just warnig you, you will be peeing A LOT!! from the iv fluids they give you. The next morning was Friday and by then I could walk around the floor with very little problems, still pumping the dilautid drip every 10 minutes. It was wonderful that I had a friend there doing the same surgery so we'd visit each others room, and walk laps together, truly truly a blessing to have her there, and we just met at pre-op visit! The doctor made his rounds at about 12:30pm and we got the ball rolling on discharging me. We left the hospital at about 2pm. By the way, they took me off the dilauted around 12:30 and gave me liquid Lortab (vicodin) and it made me loopy! I felt drunk the rest of the day. I am still taking it though, and do not feel that "drunk" feeling anymore. Today is Saturday, I am in great spirits, sipping VERY slowly on Atkins drinks and crystal light lemonade. and walking laps around my living room. The main thing I want people to know (who haven't had the surgery yet) is to be BRAVE, COURAGEOUS and put on your fighting face, because you CAN do this, YES, you will have pain, but it is so very worth it! I wouldn't take it back for a second! Thanks for listening, so if it was too long
  22. I've been taking measurements...and my 60" tape wasn't quite long enough to measure my hips (gulp) ...but today, THE TAPE FLIPPIN' TOUCHES!!!!!! (TMI perhaps...but that includes the 'apron')

    Loose skin???!!?!?!?!

Forgive me, but you are hilarious, I love the humor. When I lost 100 pounds 5 years ago by starving (i lost it in about a year) i toned up alot by circuit training at this place called shapes (like a curves, ugh, I used to work there, they so money-hungry). And I had no loose skin at all. (Although I did gain that weight back, and then some, it was cause i did it wrong, duh, I was all about image, doing whatever it took to be accepted, when I was thin, I still wasn't!) Now I'm older, wiser and much happier, working on losing weight for health, to live for my family. (Such a foriegn idea back then). So I think, "skin happens", is a good outlook, I just hope I o not look like the saggy baggy elephant this time around! ( you remember him?!?) After having a baby, I was shocked to see I had a lower belly that stuck out farther than my butt, eek, TMI, I know! And if it kills me enough that I want to pay about $10,000 for a tummy tuck instead of buying a house, or something really awesome for my family...well, forget it, I wouldn't o that anyways.
  24. You had said you aren't getting the required liquids (64 I think you said). I stall quickly if I don't drink enough. I carry a 2L jug around everywhere ( yes it's big lol) and I know I need to finish that each day. The cheese is good, but it sometimes makes me constipated ( sorry if tmi) making me seem to stall.
  25. I've had the Mirena for about 3 years now -- had bypass surgery 4+ months ago. What I can tell you re my experience w/the Mirena is that is has been a life-changing positive experience for me!! I had EXTREMELY heavy periods for about 5 years during peri-menopause, probably starting in my early 50's (now 59). I mean, and sorry if TMI, passing HUGE clots, soaking thru super-tampons and multiple pads, etc. Finally found an OB-GYN who understood and with my weight (highest was 390), she was concerned I might have uterine or ovarian cancer. Biopsies later, thank goodness, did not, but she highly recommended the Mirena for controlling my periods even though I didn't need it for b/c. It literally changed my life for the better! After a few weeks, during which I had slight spotting here and there, my periods just stopped. To go from "afraid to go anywhere because when I stand up I pass clots" to "normal" was amazing. Before my bypass surgery, I did ask if losing weight would possibly make it come "loose", which might sound silly, but I was a bit concerned, and was told no. This doesn't exactly answer your questions, but since you mentioned Mirena, I wanted to let you know what a positive thing it has been for me. Best of luck!
