15 in the first month. 10 the second month and many months after that. I didn't lose tons of weight in any one month, but it just kept going and going... Be patient, the pounds lost will add up quickly!

    November 2020 sleevers

Nov. 5 sleeve surgery: Have had great success so far, but 2 issues. Began pre-op diet 2 weeks before of protein shakes 2-3 and one hi protein meal. Final day before surgery, only shakes. 2 days after surgery was clear liquids only. Protein shakes (2-3 daily), broths and water since then. Since 10/22 pre op kick off I have lost 31.5 lbs. Gout flared up in my ankle on Wednesday, just as tramadol came to an end. Late last night had a good round of dry heaves. I think from air in shakes from blender, so I will stick with premade ones. How are others progressing? Doc appointment on 11/20 to go on soft food two week transition. How are you folks progressing?
  3. Hello! Im in the “considering” phase for WLS. Not sure if I am a good candidate or if I am giving up on my own sheer determination too soon. I have a child who is about a year out of sleeve surgery at age 22 and doing great. It’s inspiring, and I long for similar success. I have battled my weight my whole life. A little background: According to height and weight charts, I have never ever been within healthy range. At age 14, I weighed 181. As an active teen I averaged 165, and I have not seen that weight since. As an adult, I usually hovered between 195-270 and everything in between as I had children and went through the decades of my life. (Highest weight was 270 from 1999-2003) In the last 10 years, I have felt pretty good and seemed to settle into the 185-210 range, always fluctuating. I am 5’9” so I carry my weight well. This last two years I have gained 37 lbs pushing me from 193 to 230. (20 if it is definitely covid stress related) I had gestational diabetes with all three pregnancies, requiring insulin. My father was a diabetic and had every complication of it (stroke, blindness, foot infections) including kidney failure which ultimately contributed to his death. Other than genetics, my current health issues are heart palpitations, knee pain, back pain. My BMI is currently 34.5. Even if I struggle to lose 30 lbs, at 199 I will still be around 29 BMI. Even maintaining “overweight” status is a constant uphill battle for me and has gotten worse in my 40’s. I am tired of this being so difficult. I live in fear of inheriting my fathers health problems. Sorry so long. Wondering if I’m giving up my willpower too soon. The constant flip flopping from “I can do this on my own” and “it’s time to take this to another level before it’s too late” is giving me terrible anxiety. Any thoughts, experience, or advice is welcome.

    50 Pounds Gone

I am so happy today! 50 pounds gone! It has taken 3.5 months, which is longer than I thought it would take, but it's 50 pounds gone which is more than I've ever lost before regaining! I lost 25 pounds the first month and have been averaging 10 pounds for the last 2.5. I had to resign myself to NOT getting to goal by the holidays, but I have felt amazing, never deprived and my skin and hair look great! Slow and steady wins the race! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

    December 2020

Got my official preop paperwork today. I have a lot of homework. I’m going to have to take a day off to get this all done. New ECG, CXR, labs, weigh in, preop at hospital. Then another weigh in 2-3 days before surgery. All while on a liquid diet. He only asked me to lose 5-10 pounds. I already feel like I’m going to lose 20 on this diet.....feeling a little dramatic tonight.

    Cold all the time?

Hi there - had my sleeve December 2, 2019 - I’m now 5lbs away from goal weight! One thing I noticed early on is that I’m ALWAYS cold. I know losing the fat no longer insulates you, but I’m always freezing! I take enough iron, so I can’t say that’s it. Anyone else experience being cold all the time?
  8. Update. Surgery was on 11/03/2020 (Election Day)! Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy + hiatal hernia repair. I spent two nights in the hospital. As expected, the pain was mostly tolerable; gas pressure was the worst part. The only IV narcotic I needed was in the PACU immediately after surgery; one oral dose of Dilaudid, IV Toradol and Gas X was all I needed for pain control. Cold liquids caused painful spasms, so I opted for warm-to-room temperature fluids. I’m 10 days post-op and tolerating a soft diet (scrambled eggs, finely diced chicken/tuna/egg salad) well. After my last post, I decided not worry about whether my insurance would deny surgery if I lost too much weight before surgery. I eliminated nearly all carbs and exercised like a mad woman. By day of surgery, I’d dropped my BMI to 28. My surgeon said this was the lowest BMI he’d ever performed VSG; even though I’d lost close to 50 lbs with diet and exercise, my chance of increasing then maintaining that weight loss was only about 5%. Given my own and family medical histories, we both agreed to proceed with surgery. And my insurance covered it!

13 years later and - I Love my band

This sounds like me. I'm a longhauler, too, 10 cc with 5.0 cc fill. I can eat pretty much everything, just smaller bites and much slower. No one likes to go to lunch with me because I take so long to finish my food! But still....love that my weight is stable and I had a tummy tuck last year to complete the transformation. Both procedures totally worth it...it is quite freeing to live in a body that I'm not ashamed of.
  10. Was sleeved on 11/10, and got to come home yesterday (11/12). I’m feeling great and working on getting in my liquids and protein, but I’m hurting in one incision. The largest incision that my doctor told me he pulled the excess stomach from is giving me a fit. I can’t even bend over to pull on a pair of leggings or socks. It gives me a sharp, shooting, burning pain all through that area. I know he had to cut muscle to get the excess out, but how long will it hurt like that? Like, it’s about to be cold here in TN y’all. 🤪 Also, gas pain. I’ve been walking and walking, but I still feel like I have gas trapped in my upper chest and I can’t burp! Like, I’ve even tried to gulp air to make myself burp and it isn’t working. No problems with the other end, but any advice with upper chest gas pockets?

    New beginning

I use workout videos on YouTube. You can do them at home for free. Someone here recommended Leslie Sansone Walk at Home, and she has a lot of free videos on YouTube. I think they're great for beginners because they're pretty simple, most don't require any equipment, and you can start with short ones (10-15 minutes) and work your way up to longer ones.

    Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction

I was diagnosed 4 years ago with SOD. I had an ERCP where a sphincterotomy was done. That cleared my pain for 3 years. Then, my pain started up again. But, it came and went. I had actually forgotten I had SOD. I had my gastric sleeve done in June, then had my annual physical in July. My blood work came back with elevated liver enzymes. That’s when I finally realized my SOD had come back. I’m scheduled for another ERCP in about 10 days. It seems that the pain is getting worse as time goes by. It’s definitely worse since my gastric sleeve surgery.
  15. On my surgery date I weighed 196. Today I weighed 190.5. Anyone else get off to such a slow start????

    Revision due to GERD

Hello! I was sleeved in 2012 and lost 105! My acid reflux started getting worse. Especially at night too woke up w sore throat from the acid and tried diff medications. I got the bypass for acid reflux AND weight loss. More the acid I just want it gone. I’m 1.5 weeks post op. Had my bypass 11/2. I’ve lost 10 pounds so far in the week I’ve been home lol I’m feeling great. I will say the pain for this revision was horrible. My friend had bypass and didn’t have this much pain. Today I’m able to get around a lot and even house clean. I’m on protonix for 3 months but I was thinking I would not need it hmmm not sure but I do feel acid if I have Gatorade zero. Hopefullly it’s just because it’s so soon after surgery. But you will lose. Well I think so, I am. SW230, 2 week 1,000 cal diet low carb=216, after surgery 216. 10 days later I’m at 206. Goal 170. good luck!

    November 2020 sleevers

My wife and I were sleeved today. My pain has been fairly manageable. My wife is in a bit more pain. We lost 18 and 19 lbs on the 2 week preop diet. Happy healing to the rest of the sleeves for this month. The biotene dry mouth spray is amazing after surgery.

    November 2020 sleevers

I’m officially sleeved! The pain and nausea were pretty bad yesterday, and I threw up liquid pain meds once. 0/10, do not recommend. Feeling a bit better today. I’m trying to drink a protein shake right now, just still really hesitant because of the pain in my stomach. I’ve had a lot of burps and they make me feel so much better. I feel like it’s like burping a baby. Passed the swallow test this am so hopefully things are looking up!

    Anyone for October 2020?

My surgery was 3 weeks tomorrow and one of my incisions hasn't healed yet either. It was bleeding and oozing on my 10 day check-up and Doctor re-dressed & said don't worry. But it was still bleeding after some days so I went to my GP surgery (family doctor) and the nurse there is now "packing" it & re-dressing it twice a week. The "packing" involves sticking something into the unhealed wound which will help it heal apparently. Maybe get your family doctor or nurse to take a look at it?

    6 weeks out - Expectations

trust me on this and us Vets around here will back me on this This F$#$ckin surgery has major head game issues once you get them in line you will love the journey. It takes time and really focus on something else besides this journey. We all get caught up in the reward but for example i made taco Tuesday for 20 plus college kids today did it look down and say woof down 19 of them like the old days? No i had a few over 4 hours, I am a chef but still after getting over the addition to food can still cook. I also got a dog since surgery to focus on something else, Once i lost 80 pounds my kids got me a lab puppy he has allowed me a new challenge to my new lifestyle; Gets me away from the head games.. If you are old like me DO not get a dang puppy lot of freakin work Not going to be easy and we all understand but once you get you head off your old lifestyle stuff changes. Reach out anytime to any of us who has been there, In closing The surgery was a tool and it is up to you to get the workshop in order to use the tool the best of its benifits. Get healthy, Happy and enjoy the new life!
  24. I live in NC, and finished up everything the Dr. required so we could submit to insurance for approval. I was so excited. The nurse and staff informed me at check out that it can take up to 2 weeks for a decision. Well, today is Nov 10 and just shy of 2 days of the approx. 2 weeks for a decision from insurance, so I called my Dr office just to check the status to only be told " that my information hasn't even been submitted to insurance yet because they're 9 people ahead of me?" OK. Understood, but why wasn't I informed that on the day that everything was complete, instead of the wait time now of 9 more people ahead of me. I guess I'm just curious if this has happened to anyone else? We work so hard to get to the surgery day to be told we have to wait again. IDK... just upset. Thanks for listening and letting me get this out.
  25. Hi! I’m new here. I had my RNY on 10/21/20 and I’m doing okay for the most part however, there are quite a few vitamins that I have to take that are chewable/sublingual ONLY for the first 3 months. I’ve developed a conditioned response to chewables and sublinguals over the years and I can’t get them down or if I do, they’re coming right back up. I’m concerned about getting the nutrients I need if I continue to throw them up. Any suggestions on how I can overcome this? I don’t want to mess this up. Thank you.
