    2 Day Post Op!

Daren, You are very lucky that 2 days post-op the pain is gone. It took about 10 days for my pain to stop. 31 pounds lost on pre-op is awesome. Your off to a great start. As far as the upset stomach goes you should contact your surgeon to see what you can take. Congratulations on beginning your new healthy life. Banded 4/17/09 10cc band w/.08 cc saline First fill 5/30/09 1.6 cc
  2. It all depends where they are in the pills when they cut them usually 50-10 pieces at at time that way sizes very even with the same brand and when the sew it the could put a little deeper seam which makes it smaller so just take a few different sizes are even same sizes cause everyone could be a little different
  3. So I was banded 3/2/10 and on my one week post op I lost 16 lbs.. I do not own a scale and my next Dr appt is on 4/14 so I will not know my progress till then. So items of clothing are becoming loose but I dont feel like Im making too much progress. I know I am not a bunch out but I feel I could be doing better. This being overweight is killing me, my son is gonna be 2 in April and just right before I had him I was only 120 lbs (here are some old pictures of me in my profile) I just want to get back there and fit into my older clothes, when I was only 1 week post op I was down to 194 and I was so happy to be under 200lbs I just dont know what had happened to me. I feel gross and ugly and FAT especially. I dont like the clothes that I fit into I dont like a lot of things about myself. I was on anti-depressants and just this past wednesday the doctor decided to not continue these meds. He feels as I continue to lose weight and everything my depression will lighten and finally go away. I keep thinking to myself... what if that doesnt happen? I dont want to wait until next summer to hopefully have lost a good amount of weight to look decent in any clothing. I just dont know. =(

As long as it doesnt have more than 10 calories or contain caffeine. That's what my doc told me.
  5. Hi all, I am having my lapband removed after 11 years for acid re-flux issues while sleeping, my GI and my Bariatric Doc both recommend Gastric Bypass because of the sleeve issues with reflux but I am so afraid of dumping and the side effects. My mom had bypass over 10 years ago and still has to go to the bathroom for LONG periods of time after almost every meal. After being on lapband and experiencing the purge, I don't ever want to deal with ANOTHER embarrassing side effect, and my reflux issues now are exacerbated by my lapband so once that is out, I am hoping the reflux will not get worse. I am at 195lbs and still want to lose 30 lbs or so. How bad is dumping for regular people? How bad is the reflux for those on the sleeve, I really need to decide, all thoughts are appreciated.

I'm in Yorktown, VA, if ya don't like the weather here, wait 10 minutes it will change, LOL. Welcome to Virginia.
  7. After the Prilosec last PM I still had a wicked cough while trying to sleep BUT no heartburn at all today. I spoke w/ the NP at my lap band center and she suggested I take the Prilosec daily for 7-10 days and that I go to full liquids for a few days as well as avoid caffeine, spicy foods and alcohol. Joan

Off to the hospital again... :(

Well here is the latest........Had a 5th Cat Scan and they found the abscess was empty..But because it still hurt they decided to keep me in the hospital and run more tests..... I am clogged up and they qare trying to open the dam....lol And now the surgeon has found that the sleeve has an ulcer and that there is a hole in it. So the fluid runs into my mouth and down my sleeve and into the intestine..Also the intestine that vis part of my sleeve. So They gave me another Cat scan yeaterday and when they did the dye. I was on my side and it puddled in my mouth....yuck! So the surgeon also did a scope and that is where he found the ulcer. So even though the abscess does n0ot have anything in it. If I drink or eat it goes into it and fills up....So he decided to put a bigger drain in and put me on some heavy meds to heal the ulcer and clean this mess up...The reason it hurts so much is because I have the drain under my Diaphram, And the drain touches the lung and spleen. Nerve endings scream when they are touched so everytime I move they scream and so do I. Now I have to keep the drain in for 10 or more weeks. So they have to give me good meds so that I can handle the pain. So this is where I am now....... One cool thing though is that he said that when he did the scope my sleeve was in great shape. It had not stretched or moved or has been damaged in any way...Yes me!!!!!! 19 months out and doing great in the sleeve department as far as it changing over time. Now I have an ulcer that is on my sleeve. A tiny one and it is open and so what I eat or drinks leaves it and goes out of the ulcer and goes into the abscess. Then from there it goes in the drain. They havegiven me powerful antibiotics for this and soon great pain pills... Here is to hoping I go home soon..And contrinue my life... Thank you all for the well wishes

    Calcium Citrate

Thanks everyone my nut also insist on citrate, it is harder to find and they are more exspensive for the ones ive seen I would have to take 3 day and they would only last about 10 days for 15 to 20 dollars
  13. im up for my first fill in a week. i have an empty 10 cc band and am wondering in general, how many cc's do they put in for the first fill. id rather not have to go back 4-5 times at 1 cc at a time. id rather them be a bit more aggressive than to nickel and dime me to death. i have to drive a long way for a fill and there 250 each. could add up fast.

2 months post op & struggling

  15. I have had three fills, I have 7cc in a 10cc band. I have trouble with breads, some rice, and chx breast, basically all of the normal problem foods. I PB, slime, etc. I am not seeing consistent weight loss, but part of that may be weighing on two seperate scales (my dr is 3 hours away) and I don't think my home digital scale is all that accurate... seems accurate for my dh and kids but is 10-15 lighter than the scale in dialysis at work. Ugh. I am using my BodyBugg so I know what I am eating/burning on a daily basis. My nurse is coming into town next week to do fills, do I get a little fill or leave well enough alone?
  16. Yes, I went to a seminar but I didn't know anything then. They talked about "restriction" and said you would feel full on less food. I hadn't done all this reading at that time and didn't know what to ask. Then why not just use willpower and not get the band? Sorry, but yeah I do. That's not a leap I'm willing to take. The more I read the more this is sounding like snake oil. I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars on something that is only going to provide a placebo effect to make me feel full longer and give me all kinds of bad side effects as well. The fact that many many people say they cannot eat meat and raw veggies is enough to give me considerable pause. I thought those were the things we are supposed to eat to be healthy. And when someone says they have no restriction and can eat anything they say they don't simply because of will power. Maybe I should save my money and just get hypnotized. I don't know. This is very early in my process. I haven't had my 1st real appt. yet. I'm sure going to bombard them at that 1st appt. and it will only be the nutritionist so I'm not sure how much she can actually tell me about how it works. She should be able to though I would think. I'm just hoping this is not something that is going to be real popular for a while then, after people have had it for 10 years plus down the road we will be seeing those lawyer commercials saying "Has someone you love been harmed or killed by the Lap Band? Call us and we will get you money."

    Questions on hospital stay

Pittguy, here is a breakdown of my stay in the hospital. With the exception of being fat im in overall good health. each persons stay will vary. 1. was in 3 days 2. private room ( standard practice for my surgeon) 3. tests-only had the leak test. and blood drawn once. 4. they check vitals ever 4 hours or so. the try to time it just before you nod off then only wake you once. 5. after the first two walks they left me alone. i was walking the halls on my own since i wanted out and i was somewhat hyper 6. nurse who gave all of my belly shots was skilled never felt them. 7. staff would pop their heads in every hour just to ask if i needed anything. besides that the gave me my privacy. to read watch tv etc. 8. not sure of the sleep over policy 9. very good with pain management. always responded within a minute or so. 10. Support...The Bryn Mawr Bariactric center was like have your own cheering section ...everyone in that center addressed me by my first name and encouraged me through every step. 11. they answered every question completly. 12. gave me a special pillow to use to bear down and support my mid section when getting up and down or rolling over. 13. meal trays were always on time! if you have ANY questions please ask i would be glad to tell you what ever i can about my experience. Hope this helps . im sure you will be fine.. What is your date? RJ

    Vacation after sleeve

I got on my treadmill as soon as I got home from surgery--I did the hospital shuffle at 0.5 miles/hour--but I did 10 minutes every 2 hours during the day and added some time and some speed as I was able each day. By week 3 I could do 2 or 2.5 miles/hour for 30-60 minutes at a time. It did that twice a day--the main goal was to rebuild my stamina because at week 4, I was on a grueling 6 week trip to 6 different countries (12 flights, 10 cities, and two 10-hour car rides) for a business trip. I was on my feet all day most of the work days and hiking/site-seeing the other days. You're doing this to get healthy and to be able to do more things with your family. I would say to plan for it and work for it to make it happen! Just get your fluids and your Protein and walk, walk, walk. I can't believe how good I have felt --since 4 days post op--don't hold the 1st 4 days against me! :-)

    Work Stress

Thanks people. And I am in therapy. I was banded 02/10/09 and lost 50 lbs so far.
  20. So excited! 10 more days!! How are you 26ers doing with your pre op diet?
  21. Am hoping to kick up my weight loss with this challenge over the next 6 weeks. I am aiming for at least 20 pounds. It's guided interval training/ cardio classes. I hope I can do it. I was sleeved 10 weeks ago and have lost 36 pounds. It is slowing down a lot already. I have 59 more to go. I hope this will work!
  22. Spoon full of peanut butter, Hummus, BUTTER yes BUTTER forget that margarine crap! IF you're gonna eat fat might as well eat the real deal LOL, Full fat sour cream, Cream cheese, Yogurt (low sugar variety) full fat cheese. DO NOT FEAR THE FAT!!! You're eating tiny quantities of food, The total fat you're going to consume is going to be tiny too. so long as you're not gorging yourself on frozen custard sundaes nightly you'll be fine! I haven't eaten dinner yes and I've already consumed 31 grams of fat today (ate some fatty fish at lunch YUM) I expect dinner will add another 10-15 grams to my daily total, I am totally and completely fine with that. Especially because a stomach bug swept through our house yesterday and I didn't keep much of anything down LOL. I eat 4-6x's per day. 3 "meals" and 1-2 Snacks...sometimes I eat 3 snacks just depends on the day and how I'm feeling.

    Hello all1

Hello, My name is Ann and I am considering Lap-band. I work in the healthcare industry and have seen a lot of patients that have gone though with bypass surgery. I have seen the great successes and the not so successful. In my department alone, there have been over 10 people that have had the surgery. And in other areas as well. I ran into a nurse that I see often and she had te lap band. It really turned me on o the alternative. I think this may just be the fit for me. I am a full time worker as a radiology technologist, wife and mother of two beautiful girls Emma and Grace. I just want so much to be able to keep up with them and be a part of their life. I am tired of shooping in what I call the fat girl section only to come home empty handed because noth fit or looked right. I have tried time and time again with Weight watchers, whch I have had minor success with, but after having Emma...I weigh more now than I did before I gave birth to her. UGH!! I have taken up Zumba and love it. I know I can do it, I just have to make up my mind and go for it. I hope to find support and answers to questions on this site and forums. I look forward to "meeting" many of you. Thanks for reading. Take care. BTW - I am 5'3, and 265 lbs...
  24. I just had the sleeve done on Dec. 23, 2019, so I am in week-2. I'm going to track my calories later like "Fluffychix".

    Do I have a leak?!

Have your doc try again. It might be that he made a mistake and didn't really get into the port. Yes, the 10 cm holds 4 ccs. I dunno if Inamed will pay for the surgery - I kind of doubt it. It's a known risk. jayme
