Shake recommendations please! (everything is tooooo sweet now)
Cruzntx replied to GottaLearnToSlowDown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I bought some protein soups at the Bariatric Pal store. The cream of chicken is my favorite. I was sooo tired of the sweet tastes too. -
Here's Dr. Matthew Weiner's take on weight gain and stretching out your tool. It's a common issue. And newbies defend their position to the death: that "everything in moderation" is ok. Dr. Weiner calls it the myth of restriction and malabsorption. Love it! This isn't magic bean surgery. They operate on our tummies not our heads. So we have to do everything we can to address the head issues that contributed to our disease while maximizing the advantage that WLS provides. It doesn't just "magically" end being a tool at the end of our honeymoon periods (anything equal to or <2 years). You still have your tool. But you have to exercise it. I too highly recommend how healthy counseling is for us. Get a referral to your RD for post op loss care and also to a bariatric counselor. All of our surgeons wish that their patients come back to them when they are only at the 10lb regain stage rather than the 50 or 60 or 100lb regain stage. 10lbs in 3 months really needs to be quickly evaluated. It could be your choices, but it could also be hormonal of some nature and you need to have a complete work-up and evaluation. BTW, you should stick around here and get support and provide support. Your journey will help others just like you/us!!!! Here's Dr. Weiner on the subject.

8 months post-op and Preggo, fun times-ish....
BlueBongo posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I was on vacation in Hawaii.. mid-trip felt a bit weird and took a test. Definitely put a spin on the rest of my trip! lol I have/had pseudotumor cerebri with papilledema, which is why I had RNY surgery in the first place. I was down a total of 120 pounds (with 30 more to go) when I got the big news that I didn't anticipate. So I immediately contacted and OBGYN and began figuring out what I needed to do for myself to make sure this would be a healthy pregnancy. I was glad to learn that many of the vitamins I was already taking post-op sort of mimic pre-natals, but I found a great liquid pre-natal and changed my vitamins around a bit. Went back to my nutritionist and am still figuring out my diet, but I log everything and make sure I meet my daily goals. So far everything looks good, baby has a healthy heartbeat at 6 weeks. The doctor said if I follow what I've been doing I will only likely gain 15 pounds or so... hopefully. Just wondering what anyone else's experience with this might be? I've read lots of posts about finding out about being pregnant, but not too much on the journey or how things wound up afterwards for post-bariatric patients. Bad enough my family is scarring me for life thinking about how most babies in my family were no less than 10 pounds at birth..... gotta love family! -
Understood. Thanks. A little positivity goes a long way. Clearly you didn't hit a bump in the road. I was asking for help not ridicule. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App You're 3 weeks out. Are you supposed to be having anything crunchy? And you're not having "crunchy" if you're just sucking on them anyway? And where's the Protein? And DON'T tell me I'm not being 'positive'. You just had major bariatric surgery and have a post surgery diet you're supposed to be following. Grow the hell up.

How long did it take to get your PASSPORT CARD ?
slvrsax replied to Italiancurves's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I just had my passport updated to reflect my married name. From the time I mailed it off it took 19 days to get my actual passport booklet back. The passport card came in a seperate mailing about a week later. A month earlier I sent in my bosses' passport for renewal. He used the expedited service and got it back within 10 days. Expedited service is 60 dollars. Does your state offer an enhanced drivers license? Washington does. I don't know about other states. As another poster stated, I believe this mini govt shutdown had an impact on passport services. -

Meal planning and living alone
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to adrinanna's topic in Singles Forum
The others have written so much about meal planning that I'll just add that there are several cookbooks geared to bariatric patients. The one that I bought six-ish years ago (and never used) is Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery. I mention the title only because I recall that it broke recipes out for the different surgical procedures. So many "regular" recipes are well-suited. Sitting in a restaurant or ordering out is great. Then there is my belief that planning and cooking for myself and occasional guests says that I'm a capable, competent adult. Seeing my refrigerator blooming with produce and other good things tells me that a real person lives here; a fridge with little more than condiments on the door shelves is sad to me. I'm a fan of leftovers when I make a batch of favorite dishes. I'm a fan of a one-time meal of something I've tossed in the oven or broiler or pan. My cooking ranges from life-long dishes to improvisation to either following closely or loosely a recipe for more exotic fare, such as South Asian or North African. Cooking is a creative endeavor; some of the improvisations are merely edible, thus, never repeated. Only once did an improv prove to be fodder for the garbage can. It's an adventure. Above all, cooking is a component of my reigning over my program. -
These are great! YES to going sleeveless, accepting compliments, wearing heels pain-free, feeling less conspicuous because of size, and not feeling like an obstacle in the path -- and that driver's license stat honesty! I need to renew mine too - just seeing the old picture on it makes me startle now.

Weight Gain Stats-Surgery Vs. Diet. Short & Long Term
PonyUp posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In summary from reading these and other articles (my conclusion—please draw your own, I am not an expert and still awaiting to be sleeved!). I am having a bit of pre-surgery jitters, so re-researching to be clear I am making the right choice for me, for the right reasons and my expectations of self and surgery are realistic. The long term percentage rate of dieters regaining most or all weight back does seem to be much higher (up to 95%) than those that actually have bariatric surgery . HOWEVER, WITH THAT SAID, SOME STUDIES SAY UP TO 5% OF BARIATRIC PATIENTS GAIN IT ALL BACK. 2-3 years after surgery 80% of patients regain 5-10 pounds and approximately another 20% keep creeping up (unclear how much and if you look at other stats it appears most of them most get a handle on it). I am having pre-surgery (April 10, 2012) jitters and was having moments of wanting to back out but the stats seem to favor using the tool of surgery, but it is obvious bariatric surgery is no magic wand and one still has to ; PORTION CONTROL (YOU WILL EVENTUALLY BE ABLE TO EAT ENOUGH TO REGAIN WEIGHT—IF NOT CAREFUL!) I take daily: 2 c chewable (1000 mg) from costco ( orange flavor) 3 multi with Iron from Celebrate 1 krill ( used to take 2 huge Omega 3 gel caps, glad I replaced with 1 small krill) 2 citalopram ( not sure I need any more, but need to figure out how to get off it) 2 b12 under the tongue 1 energy blend from Gnc 1 d at 5000 iu ( used to take 3 so glad I found a 5000 iu ) 1-2 Prilosec 2 b-50 capsules from celebrate 2 Calcium chew from Bariatric Advantage ( actually take 6 a day spread out) I am not keen to remember to take them all unless done together in the morning. The exception is the calcium chews which I take 2 hours apart from the multi with iron in the morning and remainder 4 at other 2 meals. The calcium chews are about the once Vitamin supplement I can stomach from Bariatric Advantage. Don't get me started on the BA multi tablets. Those are long gone.

As many of you know I'm very new to this and already it has been super frustrating! Monday I had a doctor refer me to the center that was not very professional and the surgeon had many bad review on many different sites! ( I'm so glad I research EVERYTHING before I commit to anything!) Since then I have been calling many centers, looking up many surgeons and finally called one and set up an appointment for the 17th of May. I'm super happy especially since I was getting very discouraged! How long did it take you to find your Bariatrics center? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

12 Month Medically Supervised Weight Loss Requirement?!?!?!?
Allison4283 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I am new and SO glad I found this site! I have already gained so much knowledge reading through the forums. So. I got really excited because the company I work for added the bariatric surgery benefit to my coverage this year. However, they require a TWELVE MONTH supervised preoperative weight loss program. I have been overweight since elementary school. I have tried almost every diet known to man. I lose weight, then gain it all back-PLUS MORE! I have been researching bariatric surgery for years, so I expected a 3 to 6 month required diet. I just wasn't expecting a year. Has anyone else had this as a requirement and somehow got the time frame shortened? My BMI is in the 60's and I have comorbidities of sleep apnea, and I am borderline diabetic. My medical records show a steady increase of weight over the past 11 years. Help!- 7 replies

Pregnant almost 3 months out
Codedsub replied to Israh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was ill worded Shareen. You can disagree, but it does not change that it was rude. It is not advised to get pregnant within 2 Years of bariatric surgery, however, it does happen and it is simply recommended to get to the doctor and that you will need to follow strict guidelines to ensure health for both mother and child. There is also a higher risk of miscarriage. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Who should submit the prior authorization? Me, primary physician, or surgeon? My insurance policy does not include bariatric coverage, so I was going to appeal the expected denial but I need a denial first. Has anyone ever had experience or heard of anyone getting coverage when their policy excludes it? Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Save me a call to the Dr. please. Calcium carbonate vs: Calcium citrate
Holly5.3 replied to newat52's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure if this is "scientific evidence" but I accidentally bought calcium carbonate via on-line bariatric surgery website. After enjoying the scruptious chocolate covered caramel chews (3X a day) for about a month, I noticed my hip bones starting to give me trouble (I'm not a spring chicken -- 52, but now I'm the new 32 after my sleeve! But my bones are still 52!) I checked the ingredients to see if maybe they were the "wrong" calcium supplements-- lo and behold they were not calcium citrate! Boo hoo! I am now taking 12 Citricell minis a day (4 with each meal). They are smaller so go down easy, but boy I miss those caramel chews! (They also had 30 calories each, so I think they contributed to my "stall" at that time as well! My hip bone no longer aches, so I think that the calcium absorption may have been affected as well.) Hope this helps!
