Hi everyone! I'm soooooo excited to have my surgery on Dec 17th! I am a full time college student finishing my degree interning as a student teacher. I graduate on Friday the 14th of December and I get sleeved the following Monday!! However I'm a little concerned about not having enough energy after Xmas break. I am taking over a teaching position right after Xmas break (January 6th) and I'm hoping that ill be recovered enough to handle being on my feet all day in a class FULL of students (we have almost 40 kids) these are 4 th graders and can suck the energy right out of you! When did all of you get your e egret boost I've been hearing so much about. Right now I'm 5'7" and 380 lbs. so it's hard to keep up with. I know it should be easer after I get some of this weight off

Please Read If You Don't Like Your Photo Being Taken.
lozjacko posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I loved this... Someone sent me the email because I don't like my photo being taken! I'm happy they forwarded it onto me. For the last 5 years or so I've put a lot of weight on and for that reason I hate the way that I look. I don't like people taking my photo. I have 2 gorgeous kids and there is only a coupe of photo's of me with them. After reading this I have a few more photo's now. I'm considering lap band surgery and have an appt to see a surgeon in 2 weeks. Fingers crossed my surgeon approves me and I can make up for all the photo's I should have taken. It's definitely worth a read. http://www.ivillage.com.au/the-mum-stays-in-the-picture/154242 -
Surgery is this week and I have lots of questions
terrydumont46 replied to NervousNancy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
#1 ask the anthesiologist to give you antiemetics prior and during surgery and after. this should control vomiting and nausea. #2 if you didnt have digestion problems before you more than likely wont after, if you keep to small meals. chew your food throughly. dont eat fast and don't gulp. #3 you still enjoy all the foods you love you just won't want to eat as much. we are all still on diets. low fat, sugar free and mostly carb free. by having surgery you are confirming that you cannot lose weight on your own. you have tried and cant do it. your weight is a health issue and you should be thinking about a new attitude towards food. if you arent there than perhaps postponing your surgery is the right thing to do. i think most banders on here were looking forward to their surgery. worked hard to have it done. i know i felt like it was my last resort. and i have to tell you that losing weight is a high in itself. wearing clothes again that i haven't been able to wear, to have energy that i haven't had for years. lap band surgery is a blessing. not a curse. good luck to you -
I gained in order to qualify and it was all worth it I lost what I gained just on the pre op liquid diet. Good Luck

I've lost weight and I am afraid
FloraBama Girl replied to HDubSleevery's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awsome. Stop that negative thinking and focus on the positive with your weight loss. If you were a failure you would not be trying to go down this road. Best of luck to you. Stephanie -
My first appointment was mostly just informational. What to expect, what my insurance requirements were, etc. Then I had my first weigh-in and met with my nutritionist to make a plan on how I could start changing my diet and losing weight before the band. I had my first appointment on 6/15 and am scheduled for surgery in 10/22. I tried really hard (80-90%) of the time to follow the nutritionists plan and have lost 30lbs so far. Now hopefully the band will help me with the last 90-100! Lol

Pre surgery (insurance required diet)
Lisa75 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long did you have to be on the diet and how much did you lose? I'm really worried here. I've stayed the exact same for 2 months and have only lost 3 lbs. I'm worried I won't be approved because I haven't lost more weight. I'm following dietician and working on a stationary as well as a bike. Should I be concerned because i haven't dropped more weight than this? Freaking out there. -
So I go for my pre-op nutrition appointment Thursday and my last of 6 monthly weight management class. Don't have a date yet but just curious of how close I am? Do I start the 2 week liquid diet then or what? I guess I should just wait till my appointment but I'm nervous/ anxious/ excited... To sum it all up I can't wait to get on the loser's bench!!

Hey everybody. i got sleeved 2/1/2011. It certaintly wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, being scared to death of surgery. The sleeve was my first ever surgical procedure, stay in a hosptial, etc. It's been 6 days and I have already lost nearly 17 lbs. that is a huge PRO. My blood sugar is 109 so I em elated! My surgeon took me off of my medications, diabetes and high blood pressure, and told me I will probably not need them any more. Blood sugar is consistently normal so my diabetes seems to be gone. My blood pressure has been high normal so that is a little concerning but I have an appointment with my regular Dr. later thsi week. That should go down as I lose weight, I would imagine. I didn't have high blood pressure until I gained all this weight so obviously the two are connected. I started on pureed food yesterday. Ate an egg. Tolerated great, as long as it's only a very little bit. Couldn't eat the whole egg, but no problems with it. I feel more energetic since yesterday, I am assuming because I am consuming some Protein now. Now for some CONS: My acid reflux is really bad. I have to take Omneprazole daily. if I get even the slightest bit worked up, like I did while speaking to my employees over the weekend, acid really burns. I am hoping as my stomach heals this calms down a bit or I might have to change careers. Because of the acid, it is very difficult to tell when I am hungry. My sleeve doesn't growl like my stomach did, so it's difficult to tell what is acid and what is hunger pain. That is the only con so far. My taste buds seem to be very bland as well, but that is a good thing because I am breaking a 43 year old habit of overeating. It is phyisically impossible for me to do that any more. My divorce from food is hard, but I'm getting through it. The pounds melting away is helping a lot with that because I am getting instantaneous results. I think about food all the time, but there is nothing I can do about it, so I am being force to break the cycle. Difficult but necessary and thanks to my sleeve, I will not be drowning any sorrows in food ever again. Thanks for listening!

Hi, New, here,Appointment with surgeon on wednesday!
SueRN posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad to have found this site, so much good info. I've been to the Weight loss seminar offered by the surgical group and have decided to go forward with VGS. RNY and the malabsorption, has always scared me and not too thrilled with the idea of lap band either so was happy to hear of this alternative. I have Med Cost and they have been really quick to approve coworkers some with much less weight to lose. At 5'6 and 240 lbs I'm pretty disgusted with myself for letting this get so out of control, but as a lifelong yo yo dieter am grateful to have this option to finally get healthy once and for all. It's been inspiring to see the success of friends and read everyone's stories here. Even with the relatively easy approval with my insurance there still are a lot of hoops to jump through. I'm hoping for a January surgery date. Is that realistic? Have to see primary care to document weight and do labs, scheduled for tomorrow, Surgical consult on Wednesday But will still have psych eval, NUT, physical fitness eval, , EGD and at least one support group visit. Seems like an overwhelming list, especially for someone who avoids the doctor like the plague. Yeah, I know odd for a nurse. -
An emotional day for this pre-opper

Well done you! Not just for recognising that you have made a big decision that is life changing with far reaching consequences, but for also raising such a great boy. So you should be proud of him and you. It is so hard to explain how life changes post sleeve. Yes, you lose weight. But there's so much more to being sleeved than just that and so much of it will blow away your old life and thoughts. So don't be too hard on yourself just now, you are on the road and you seem determined to succeed. So you will :-)))) Totally get the cleaning thing, I organised the house, the cleaning, the laundry and anything else I felt needed sorted to my head's satisfaction. Four weeks will be here before you know it. Best of luck, will be watching to see how you do... -

A Little Thanksgiving Prayer...
amykins replied to connie3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do it. Keep your eye on the prize. Some surgeons won't do the surgery if you don't lose the required weight while on the pre-op diet. I believe one person here had her surgery postponed because her liver was too fatty. The surgeon didn't feel comfortable doing the surgery and closed her back up. -
Are There Complications Due To Tummy Tuck Prior To Lap Band?
CHEZNOEL replied to Shergirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my tummy tuck 83 pounds ago, and I have had no issues at all. The good news is that the tummy tick keeps your midriff looking good as you lose the weight. -
@@anitavee, I am starting to second guess my decision also. I am scheduled for surgery on the 25th and I'm struggling with the pre op diet. I was also just diagnosed with PCOS, so I'm started to wonder if I may lose a lot of weight just by treating the PCOS and hormone imbalance. I've been asking myself, "do you really need to do it THIS way?", "can't you just try a little harder?". I have no energy with this liquid diet and I'm a bit nauseous. Also, I'm so scared that since this surgery is irreversible that I may be making the biggest mistake of my life! Aaagghhh! I'm torn...

Pre-Op All Liquid Too Much Protein?
laurenlee posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day #5 of my pre-op liquid protein diet. I am keeping a log of what I am drinking, grams of protein, fat, carbs and sugars. Yesterday, I had 198 grams of protein! i think what did it was the physician's weight loss center nuritional supplements that i sip throughout the day that total 36 grams of protein in 24oz. imagine if crystal light had 12 grams of protein in every 8oz. what happens when we consume too much protein? -

I was banded on 9/28/07. I have been on medication for hypertension since I was in my early 20's due to a combination of a hereditary condition and the extra weight. I am now 39. The hereditary condition causes me to have a rapid heartbeat, so I'm on a medication for that as well. So in total I take 3 meds. Since the surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago, my blood pressure has been right at normal...around 120/80. Then last week even though I was taking the medication for my rapid pulse, it was still going too high and racing (over 120 beats per minute). My doctor had switched me before surgery from a capsule to a tablet so it could be broken up and taken now that I'm banded. I still had some of the capsules from before left so I called Dr. Spivak's office and they said since I'm not restricted yet I can still swallow the capsule. I went back to the capsule to regulate my pulse. It worked like a charm. Then suddenly yesterday I started feeling really dizzy and nauseous...so much so that I had to go home from work. I took my blood pressure and it was only 106/69 even though I'd only taken half of my meds for the day. Today it's still really low for no apparent reason after only taking half of my meds and I'm still nauseous. If the nausea would go away I'd feel a LOT better. I know the first thing everyone will say is call the doctor. Which I will be doing, but can't possibly get any time off work to go in for an appointment because we're too short staffed the rest of the week. In fact, I'm the only one in the office for most of today. So anyway my questions is: Has anyone else gone through this? What could be causing this? I know I haven't been getting a lot of Protein. I'm on mushies and meat isn't allowed except fish which I don't like. I drink several bottles of Water a day. I'm eating probably between 800-1000 calories a day (I don't count). An average day's food for me is: Breakfast: 1/2 packet of instant oatmeal or cream of wheat made with 2% milk Lunch: 1/2 of a medium baked potato mushed up with 2 Tbsp of cheddar and 1 Tbsp of sour cream Supper: 1/2 cup of refried Beans with 1 Tbsp of cheese or something similar If I have a snack it's a small low fat pudding or a Danactive yogurt drink (4 oz) I've gained and lost weight over the years and nothing as small as a 14 lb weight loss (that's what I've lost so far) has even affected my blood pressure in the slightest. So I'm puzzled by these symtoms.

It IS possible to defeat the sleeve, just like any other weight loss surgery. But, you're going to classes at Kaiser? I'm assuming yes. They will help you work on your food issues and, if they don't, then I recommend you find a counsellor who will help you work on them. The surgeon sleeves our stomachs, not our heads, so the head work has to be done by us, either before surgery, or afterwards. Good luck!!

I everyone. I am beyond happy that I found this site. Like many of you, I have tried to lose weight for the past 7 years(I'm 25) and I just can't seem to lose it. I lose the weight and gain it right back.. My sister got sleeved on January and OMG she went from a size 18 to a small .. Amazing I know.. So at first, after seeing her have some complications, I said I can't do this, forget it... But just 3 days ago, I was trying to wear something for work and it wouldn't for properly and after trying few other outfits, I said that's it, I will have the surgery regardless what ends up being. Not for nothing, but I have an amazing life, I have a awesome job, I go to school which I graduate next fall, but I'm not happy with my weight. This is where the problem arises, I weight 200... I could of swore I was more but I was too scared to weigh my self. So 2 days ago I wanted to see how much I weighted and I was disappointed lol.. I calculated my BMi and it's 34 Uhg so frustrating.. Now some of you may say well wtf are u doing here, but that's not the case.. I am very self couscous and I don't ever go on dates bc I feel like I am huge (which 200 is not small) I am 5'4 also... I am registered for a seminar for Wednesday 10/2/13... Not sure if I qualify? Would I? I mean I do wear a size 16 so you would think I do? Right? I was always a size 4 until I turned 19.... I know it's wrong but should I gain a little weight? I did have a heart surgery in 2010 and my heart beats more than normal peoples so maybe they can consider that right? Worse comes to worse and my insurance say No, can I do it anyways paying cash? Will they allow me even though my BMi is not 35? I really want to be at least 130 and I have tried almost every single diet on the planet.. I just want some insight since I really want to do it but my family won't really support me since they still think I have a heart condition which I don't anymore.. I have decided I am going to do it even if it costs my life in the end... That's how serious I am .. And I have read so many of your stories and I am inspired.

Hi there, I had a Sleep Study quite a while ago -- I have apnea and now use a CPAP machine. One of my weight loss goals is to not have to have that machine anymore but in a way I love that thing because it helps me get real sleep at night and I'm so much better rested now. People have different experiences but I found the Sleep Study to be fine -- the hospital I went to had a room set up like a hotel. They put all kinds of leads on me and a kind of cap with a pony tail of wires. I was worried about having to get up and go to the bathroom in the night and they had that all figured out. The guy who monitored everything was extremely kind and it was all fine. Good luck to you! And exciting that you are getting nearer your date. Best wishes.....

I had my 2 appt with the nutritious and I haven't lost any weight and he told me not to worry cause I made some good improvement with my eating habits and inches will come off first before weight any one else have these problem.

Preop liquid diet for sale
Mrs.FullerRN replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lost a bunch of weight last year and then got pregnant and gained it all back. I have not even given myself a chance to get the baby weight off as my baby is only 4 months old. I started the preop diet and literally felt like I was going to die. I was shaking and sweating and throwing up. I do not feel that I can be a good mom while feeling that way for weeks upon weeks and lastly removing 80% of a healthy organ is irreversible. I might look into the band. -
Today was the first time since I was 11 years old that I actually went into a store and bought clothes a size smaller (one was actually 2 sizes smaller). I mean, I've lost weight before but I honestly can't remember purposely buying smaller sizes because my clothes are not fitting me good now - with plans that I will get smaller. Its weird! I guess because I haven't lost almost 50 pounds in a long long long while. I always just dealt with my clothes I had because I always knew I'd gain weight back. Now I KNOW I will just get smaller. I am due to have surgery in late May but I am proud of what I've done so far. I know with the sleeve, I will be able to do wonders! So that's my NSV and I am relishing it big time! Can't wait until there are more to come. Of course, a couple of scale victories would be awesome too!
