  1. I cant believe that tomorrow I will be 5 weeks post op. Half the time when I eat a meal, when I'm half way through it, my stomach is like "I don't like thos anymore". I havent started tracking yet. To me it seems hard because If I don't eat all of it, how do I know what the calories are or the protein? I'm still not getting enough protein. Or fluid still. What is everyone doing at this point of their post op? I see the dietician April 5th. I'm hoping she can give me some meal options. I want to start meal prepping. What is everyone's favorite meals at the soft solid stage? Anybody experience foods that they used to like, no longer like now? There's a lot I don't like now.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

Just got word. I'm having my lap band removed April 10. Then the plan is to do a gastric sleeve in three months. Just no success with band after 9 years. Plus my esphagus is in a snake figure and they had to remove most of the fluid from the balloon and Ive gained back 20+ pounds in a year.

Sleeve Surgery Date is 22 March

I had surgery on 3/23. All went well and I have had minimal pain unless I sneeze. The only real pain is from the big incision where they took my stomach out. It's been surprisingly easy to drink and eat. I was on clear liquids (phase 1) the next day (Friday) after my swallow test showed no leaks, but was on full liquids (phase 2) on Saturday so right now I'm existing on protein shakes, yogurt, pudding with protein powder, jello, popsickles and flavored water. Gotta stay on full liquids for 2 weeks, then 2.5 months of pureed/soft food (phase 3). I'll be able to eat real food for the first time on 6/24/23, the day I get married.
  5. Hello All, A brief on my endoscopy sleeve gastroplasty journey. I had my ESG in REGO PARK by Dr.Batash. Dr. Batash is very charming and a great provider. When I first met him for my consult I was concerned about ulcer erosions I've had from previous stomach ulcers, as well as IBS and GERD. He was very informative and open to many questions. The ESG procedure is not covered by insurance, but Dr.Batash is not selling it to you. Which I truly appreciated. My procedure was 2 weeks ago. My biggest struggle is the after-procedure diet. Week 1 - Liquids, Week 2 Purees. I am a picky picky girl.. week 1 was ok, being that I was healing and my appetite was off a bit. I did have Gatorade Zero, Lipton Broth, Jello, and Water. The water felt harsh... so a friend said, to drink alkaline water. I'm on week 2, purees ... what a headache. I can't fathom blending chicken and sweet potatoes, or greens at that. I bought baby food, which 4 OZ was filling. I'll stick to my broth until I can actually chew something, and protein shake provided by the office as well. I did meet with the Wellness Coach provided for 1 year or is part of the package. Lots of info on portion size and what to eat. Only wish they could email me the conversation as opposed to me writing it down. I've tried to walk the 30 minutes daily. So if you have any tips on how to make this smoothy or want information from me... Just let me know.

    VSG Surgery 4/14!! Twins?

Congrats! I’m starting my 2 week liquid diet Friday! The 14th will be here before we know it!
  7. True! The yogurt is pretty smooth. I think I could have finished the container, but after 30 or so minutes I was scared I might stretch my new tummy. I think that’s my biggest fear while trying to “feel” my way through the last two weeks. Thank you for your thoughts!
  8. I think it’s fine, I eat them all the time. I’m 4 weeks out. I can eat 5-6oz in a meal w/out issue.
  9. Mine is April 5. I'm also excited. Do you only have to follow one week of pre-op diet or have you already done a week and have one week left? Veggie-wise, I've been having a lot of salad greens, mushrooms and some canned green beans. My biggest struggle has been with the headaches, fatigue and fogginess from the low carb diet. I'm having a hard time working.

I gave up the disgusting shakes once I was on purées. Found a high protein yoghurt (20g) & yoghurt drink (25-30g - you can make your own drink by blending yoghurt & milk). So much more tolerable to eat/drink. Still eat the yoghurt a couple of times a week if I’m a bit low on protein. Oh yeah, forget your PPI/antacid & you know it.
  12. two months is long for a stall - you may have thrown yourself in maintenance. Have you tried cutting back on overall calories? EDITED TO ADD: If you were under 200 lbs - (you're 5'10", so pretty tall), I'd guess that it was probably because you're close to your new set point. But if your current weight on your profile is correct, you could still potentially drop quite a few lbs. I'd cut back on calories and see if that does anything.
  13. I can totally relate. I've been on an extended stall for almost 3 months now. The weight loss is minimal to none at all. But I read somewhere that the rate of weight loss will decrease as you get closer to target. I noticed that I've started to lose weight again after I started fasting since last week. I hope it is not just water loss. I'm targeting to come out at least 5 kg less after the end of the fasting month. It can be frustrating but our bodies have their own way to adjust. Have you noticed any changes on the sizes? My measurements have gone down despite not losing weight.
  14. I have been using this hack - after I eat I go for a 30 minute walk then come back and start sipping again - takes care of the 30 minutes and gives me three walks too
  15. If you can finish, you absolutely should for the nutrition. Hit that protein goal! You're eating so few calories it doesn't matter! That's my opinion anyway! I'm almost 6 weeks out from bypass.
  16. My HH was large and had to wait an additional 6 months for all the meds to heal up the GERD sores and they kept checking for cancer. In the end I waited 8 months for healing before the double surgery of HH repair and RNY. If they had had a better picture, my surgeon said he would have separated it. The HH was up into my larynx. My recovery time seemed to be longer. I stayed in the liquid and all stages 3-4 weeks each due to the throat soreness. My surgery time total was 7 hours. And I accept that it’s not perfect. There’s still 1cm HH and some light GERD but I’m so grateful for being able to sing again. I stay on top of it with Omeprazole. I used the long wait to have surgery as a super weight loss time that RNY “locked” into place. That 73 initial loss isn’t coming back!
  17. I’m 2 weeks post op today and smack in the middle of the purées stage. Trying to get my protein is a struggle without shakes, but working on it. Tried an Oikos Triple Zero smooth yogurt today. They are 5.2oz. Is that too much at this stage? I ate about 4oz in 30 mins, feel fine. Do any of you finish the 5oz?
  18. I am 3 weeks out, and this is the hardest- I am so used to “washing” my mouth out with water after a meal. I think im going to have to wean myself off this habit— or maybe brush my teeth, or attempt rinse and spit situation. I just like feeling like my teeth are at least rinsed off…
  19. Three weeks past surgery date— I was able to put a ring on that I haven’t been able to wear in 5 years. The inflammation in my joints is finally calming down! YAY!
  20. We all go through them and yes they are frustrating! I keep trying new things, tracking, more veggies, less exercise, heavier weights. My last stall busted because I started higher iron supplements. Another stall busted because I needed more sleep. One stall busted when I went to Great Wolf lodge and had fish and went swimming. Only you can crack the code. It takes patience and weight loss is a massive head game. Just keep tracking and doing what your center says. A quarter cup of dry cheerios to snack set me back. Keep measuring and moving, you will get there. You’ve moved past the honeymoon stage and it’s hard work, but weigh loss still happens up to 2 years out!
  21. I know stalls are normal, but man I am getting pissed at this point. I hit 7 months on March 17th, but I have been in a stall for almost 2 months. I have tried eating carbs then going back to no carbs. I tried upping the calories. I upped my exercise(and gained 2 lbs). I have no idea what else to do. So what other things have worked for people to get over a long term stall. 🤬

    Smoking

It depends on how regularly you smoke, how much you smoke and for how long. It's also true it lives in fat cells so the more fat you have on your body, the longer it will take. IF your surgeon's office will drug test, you need to stop ASAP, drink lots of fluids, and get a stack of over the counter tests to find out if you're still popping positive in a couple weeks.

I tried something like 15 different brands of protein shakes and my top three are Fairlife Chocolate or Strawberry Banana, Ensure Max Nutrition in Vanilla and Premier Protein Chocolate blended with 1oz banana and a scoop of PBFit. I really loved the Fairlife Vanilla (has the taste of melted DQ), but my taste buds shifted after surgery and now I have a hard time with it. *shrug* this process is pure sorcery. 🪄

Do you guys have suggestions besides premiere Protein shakes. I stocked up on them then found out they make me sick as a dog 3 weeks out. I hear fairlife is a good option but don't want to find out the hard way.
  25. Yeah I think it causing me issues. I've cut out dairy mostly anyway out of my life before surgery. Still a shake or cheese here and there but nothing wild. Now 3 weeks post op takes me over and hr I get a headache and feel like I'm gonna barf. Then the cramping. I hate it. I hear fairlife is a good alternative. What do people think? I don't wanna stock up and then find out it sucks like premiere. Also I must thank you for providing solutions I brought this concern to my team and it was it will suck but you'll get through it.
