  1. I am two weeks post op today! I feel like October 3rd was a second birthday for me. On that day a new way of life was launched! Physically, I have been really fortunate I think, regarding healing. Surgery was uncomplicated, and recovery has gone fine. Not much pain. The only pain I have had regularly is in my deepest incision site. But that is finally almost gone! I didn't have much gas, and not a lot of nausea post-op. I am still on full liquids and trying to be creative so I don't go crazy. I have my protien shakes (which are begining to make me nauseaus), non fat sugar free yogurt, and strained soups- tomato basil is fantastic! I really needed something non-sweet tasting with protien so I took a carton of non-fat cottage cheese and I put it in the blender till it was thinned out to the consistancy of yogurt. Sounds disgusting right? It works for me, I eat 1/4 cup or less at a time and it helps the cravings for savory. I have had a couple days of extreme weakness. As in having to lay down for hours. I realized that it was not drinking enough of the Protein. Emotionally, it's been harder. I realize now I was a food addict. So, so many aspects of my life revolved around food (bad ones), pre-surgery. Now post surgery, I find that I have hours of time that I have to fill with new, healthy activites and hobbies. The biggest eye-opener for me 2 weeks out is how much time and mental attention that I used to give bad food. It was my life! So....reinventing now. So, this is my experience two weeks out! I see the surgeon and NUT Wednesday. I am hopeful to graduate to pureed or soft foods! Stats: HW: 239 9/23/16 SW: 219 10/3/16 CW: 211 10/17/16

    What is everybody eating?

If you cant eat you are too tight. You will not lose weight. You have to be able to eat to lose weight its that simple. Breakfast: Protein shake with berries cause my band is a little tight in the morning for food but that happens lunch at least 4 oz of some kind of meat and veggies snack yogurt or sugarfree pudding or cottage cheese dinner beef as much as I can tolerate maybe 3 oz because beef wil make you lose weight quicker but everyone can not eat beef Sometimes I eat salad with meat and its a healthy salad You got to get that band loosened or your setting yourself up for failure Excersise is a must if you want results. If your doctor is a real doctor he would have told you the band is slow but steady anyone even on a diet is going to hit a plateu I did for 5 months got a fill 2cc's it was enough I have lost 70lbs with no fill now only 2cc's you dont want to be tight its not healthy and if your hair is falling out its because you are lacking protein because you cant eat it. Relearn your eating habits. Being tight is not going to make you lose weight at all its only going to make you miserable.

    Carb withdrawals

Thanks guys! I have been so hungry. I am about one week post op and am on clear liquids. Milk, cream soups, yogurt and sugar free pudding sound so good to me right now. I know I can get through this. It's not forever. I have a friend who is my biggest supports. She got the band last year and has lost 85lbs. At least I am losing. 10lbs since surgery. Not too bad. I swear I love this site, whatever I am thinking/feeling there is always someone on here having similar issues. Thanks, Rachael

Oh goodness. I thought I was the only one that was hungry. I have been terrified that I am screwing something up, I had surgery on 3/29 and I had to move to at least something substantial once a day. I couldn't do Clear liquids. I was needing to have that all day long. Like 6 or 7 times a day and never was satisfied. I had to move right away to food once a day. Usually something like pinto Beans, butter beans. I even had some Pasta....shame I know. I only eat about 1/2 cup and then I start feeling full, so I quit. I can however eat the 6oz cup of yogurt. I thought something was wrong with me. I am so happy to know someone else out there is feeling my pain. Whew! Ronda

Post Op Foods - Returning to Work

It depends on your plan post-op. Each plan is different. Mine was full liquids (yogurts, soups, shakes) the two weeks, then purees, then soft foods, then full meals all at 2 week intervals. So by 8 weeks out I was eating "normal" food. I have two teen daughters and a husband and I am a planner too. Generally before shopping each week I plan the protein for each night so I'm not scrambling with the what to cook or make with this issue when I get home. I just kept up my normal routine for them. During my first 2 weeks, I ate lots of greek yogurt and soup. Sometimes the eggface ricotta bake. I fed my family the usual stuff we would eat. In purees, if I made them meatloaf, I'd just mash mine up more - same with chili. By the third phase - it was lots of chicken and fish. For work, I don't have access to a fridge, so I pretty much pack the same thing on my office days. (I work from home a few days a week.) Chicken salad, romaine lettuce, yogurt and a cheese snack. Sometimes an apple (but I'm 1+ year out.) I didn't freeze stuff before surgery and I'm glad I didn't - my taste buds were off for a few weeks after surgery.
  7. I'm only 5 days post op but some things are on my full liquids that are probably more like soft foods. This morning i had oatmeal for the first time. I used 1 T of oatmeal and made it watery. I feel like I ate a whole pie, very full. I think I'm going to try a yogurt for lunch. Was never a fan of it but I'm hoping my taste has changed.

I don't get a fill until Dec 16 but I am looking forward to that.

    I Actually.....

I probably don't eat as I should, but I eat a way that works for me....every morning I have a slice of peanut butter toast...at around 10 AM I have a Nature Valley protein bar (yum)...12:30 is half a PB&J sandwich....maybe at 3 I'll have a piece of string cheese or an orange....I have whatever I fix my family for supper......and in the evenings I usually always have a TCBY frozen yogurt bar and I always always have my 2.5 cups of white cheddar popcorn. I get around 1200 - 1400 calories a day, but I lack protein (usually getting around 50-60 grams). I eat whatever I want but ALWAYS count my calories on Myfitnesspal.com (which I love). On the weekends I still stay within my calorie range but I'll include a trip to DQ (mini blizzards are great) or whatever treat we're indulging in....but again, I always count the calories.

    Am I Too Tight?!

I have this from time to time. I think it's because you really have to chew. I have a harder time in mornings.. I eat a lot of yogurt..

    Am I Too Tight?!

Sometimes I can't eat yogurt either and it is more In the morning That's my worse time and one of the important times I so have to slow down when I eat and I have to chew chew chew. I was always a fast eater. And after a while all my bad habits show their nasty head again Now I have to stop and pay attention Even almost at six years I still have issues. Old habits don't die that's for sure. You have to keep trying and trying ugh

    Superbowl!

    1. Deviled eggs, if your sleeve likes eggs. 2. Cucumber slices (instead of crackers) with chicken salad, hummus, or tuna salad for dipping. 3. Chili!! 4. Roasted nuts--just take some nuts, a little olive oil, whatever herbs or spices sound good, mix, and put on a cookie sheet in a 400 degree oven until they're lightly toasted--watch carefully, as they can burn. 5. Mozzarella and cherry tomato skewers with pesto to dip. 6. If your local store carries "Beanitos," some of those with bean dip or cheese dip or other high-protein dip. 7. Veggie sticks with ranch-style Greek yogurt dip. 8. Cold shrimp with cocktail or remoulade sauce--yum!

    Chicken Salad without Mayo

I use fat free ranch or lite vidalia onion sometimes. It's pretty good, but not as good as mayo in my opinion. I've also done low-fat plain yogurt with a chutney of some kind like mango. That's yummy!

    Chicken Salad without Mayo

I replace all mayo based recipes with plain yogurt or sour cream. Sometimes if its really hot and I have a craving for chicken salad I will use fresh lemon and lime.

Dietting And Exercise Before Surgery! Help!

I'm on a low carb, low fat diet. I drink water and sugar free drinks. For exercise I walk. I do not eat meals after 6pm, only snacks such as yogurt or jello.
  16. I had my surgery 11/25/09 I have had 2 fills and now have 4.5cc's in my 10cc band. I eat very small amounts of good healthy food, I have never thrown up. I have gotten food "stuck" from eating too big of a bite or too fast, but the food does stay down. Sounds like shes got too much in her band AND/OR she is not chewing tiny bites like she should. Cherry Cheesecake as her daily food intake is a disaster....she should eat 3 meals a day. Here is my typical day for an example for you.... Breakfast: A cup of fat free yogurt Snack: A high protein drink Lunch: A piece of protein like grilled salmon, steak or turkey. Snack:Cheese& cracker Dinner: Another peice of protein (about 4oz) fish, chicke, pork, etc. A green veggie like spinnnich or broccoli & maybe a few bites of potato or pasta. Desert: no fat jello pudding or a fat free fudge bar. All good healthy foods. She needs to eat and take a daily vitamin so she does not become mal nurished...best of luck, you came to a great place for help.

1 Week Out Gastric Sleeve Plication Surgery

You know it was funny, I did mine relatively fast, maybe 60 days tops. I feel pretty good about the choice I made for the GST. I LOVE food. I do, but now I will love it in small quantities. I will miss the booze. I did enjoy having a cocktail to relax. I know that I might be able to drink again, but the smell of it still makes me sick. Talk about aversion therapy! Giving up soda has not been any hardship. I am suprised at how little I eat, just a few bites and that is all. My soft food include mini raviolis from the can (I can eat 3 and that fills me up) cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes (blah), soup, and I had a bit or cheesy rice the other day. So far no issues, or heartburn. I am taking my vitamins (liquid) each day, making sure I get all my nutrients.

    Dehydrated?

That's great Anna. There are a lot of liquids you can have at this point. Drink them slowly. You can have drinkable yogurt, Soy Slender is soy milk that's really good and low carb. It's not in the fridge section. If you like your Protein drinks, that's really great. There's also K20 protein Water. Just try to sip something a little at a time all day long.
  21. I start my pre-op diet on Monday and thought it would be nice for us to have a tread where we can talk about our pre-ops if we have them. I have to do 4 Protein shakes a day. 64oz Fluid and unlimited non starchy veggies. I can also choose 6 of the following - v8, oatmeal/cream of wheat, low fat yogurt with no fruit, no sugar added applesauce and sugar free pudding. My plan is to make a huge pot of veggie Soup tomorrow to eat as lunch/dinner, also planning salads, sauteed veggies and fresh veggies in a plain greek yogurt dip (hidden valley ranch). I figure the oatmeal and cream of wheat will do me for Breakfast along with a Protein shake when I get up. I love sugar free Popsicles and can see myself eating lots of them! I am worried about doing it for 2 weeks, worried about coming up with different ideas and such, but am thankful my pre-op does have some variety available!! How about anyone else?
  22. Yes we have all felt the need to "eat/chew" something. Totally normal. As mentioned previously however just because you can does not mean should. I recommend spacing out your allowed foods. When I was on mushies I was allowed 8 oz of tomato soup (or sweet red pepper whatever but vegetable, smooth and low fat/cal); I'd wait an hour and then have the yogurt of cottage cheese. If I ate everything in one setting I would be both head and body hungry in an hour. If you are hungry eat more of the foods you are allowed. Don't eat pizza or fries. A bit of a lecture. If pizza, fries and chicken fingers are bad for you they are bad for your children. Feed your kids versions of what you are eating. They literally won't starve. If they are hungry enough they will eat it.

    aug 12 sleevers

Hi Ladie - I'm not an August 12 but I am hear to tell you the liquids are kind of rough. The problems I am having are it takes all day to get my fluids in and I am very worn out from lack of calories. I can have yogurt without fruit and my protein also but they sit very heavy.
  24. Ahh, good insight! But for the indvidul shakes can you mix all of the fruit/protein/milk/yogurt to get rid of the grit? I tried the nectar with water yesterday and thought I was going to puke..
  25. I think the thing is people get frustrated. You're right, if you really could control your eating you wouldnt have needed the surgery. But if surgery and the possiblility of mucking it up isnt enough to keep you on the straight and narrow, I really dont know what anyone can say to you. Everyone goes through it, true, but really, how committed were you? Were you ready for this? That's not judgemental but for heaven's sake, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on the program. Support is not going to come in the guise of people validating what you're doing. That does you absolutely not good. Support comes from people suggesting what you can do to make this easier. Just becuase you're on liquids is no reason you have to starve. Liquids can be calorific, contain fat and Protein and keep your body going. Make yourself some Soup with real meat and some Pasta in it, for example, blend it up really well, thin it out with broth to a consistency you can handle now, and have as much of it as you can handle at a time, as often as you need not to be hungry. Make a real smoothie with real fruit, yogurt and milk rather than a Protein shake, get some fibre into yourself to feel some satisfaction. You can even blend up family dinners with broth to get the flavour or real food - NO food is off limits, just in solid form! There. There is no reason to go hungry. And as for "wanting to chew something" as so many people say, you just have to suck it up. Its only a couple of weeks.
