2-week Post Op what to drink?
ChaosUnlimited replied to judy09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What type are you using? If you haven't tried a pre-mixed drink like Premier protein shakes, give that a try. Or maybe use an unflavored protein in some unsweetened applesauce or yogurt if you have progressed to puree. Usually the nausea will get better over time. -
Interesting... I was given *no* caloric guidelines. The 1200 calories was a SWAG, I haven't been counting. It's just that I've had very little problems getting soft foods (liquids, yogurt) down. Well, I'm seeing the nutritionist on Friday, so we'll see what she says I should do. Thanks for the info!

dragonfly2u replied to alyjuhl07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I baked 4 split chicken breast today. Topped with garlic and pepper. After dividing into 3 ounce portions. I have twelve meals. I froze some for next week. One 3 ounce portion filled me up. Hopefully, the next two weeks will fly by. I have my chicken, green vegetable, Greek yogurt, hard boiled eggs and protein shakes all on hand. I'm taking my vitamins and my juice plus chewables that my surgeon wants me to take. -
Frustrated by lack of information/resources from dr
Sweettoothless replied to Tamzab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a lot of protein at first. I rely on tasteless protein powder that I can mix into fair life milk (lower sugar, higher protein) or mix into cottage cheese or yogurt. My diet started at 1/4 cup of food 3 x a day. And then the portion went up over time. And no snacking at all in between. Our rule is no drinking 15 mins before and 1 hour after eating. -
Made this before being sleeved and in going through my meal planning the other day, I realized it is a perfectly low-carb meal - perfect for the cold weather! So we are off to watch a friend in a gymnastics meet and this is in the crockpot and will be ready for dinner when we get home. Good thing DD7 LOVES spicy! Calculated in MFP for a total of 8 servings, per serving nutrition information: 128 calories, 6 carbs, 2 grams fat, 27 grams protein! (If you add a little cheese or sour cream/greek yogurt as a topping, that will of course add to the calories etc.) Tomatillo chicken Soup Prep Time: 30 minutes | Cook Time: 6 to 7 hours (low ) or 3 to 3 1/2 hours (high) | Servings: | Difficulty: Medium 6 tomatillos, husks removed and rinsed 1-1/2 lb. chicken breast halves 32-oz. chicken broth 1 sweet pepper, chopped 1/2 cup chopped red onion 1 stalk celery, chopped 1 4-oz. can diced green chiles 2 Tbsp. snipped fresh cilantro 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced* 1 T. ground cumin 1 T. lime juice 2 t. chili powder 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 t. salt 1tsp. ground black pepper Chop three tomatillos. Place remaining tomatillos in blender. Cover; blend until smooth. In a 3-1/2- or 4-quart slow cooker combine pureed and chopped tomatillos, chicken, broth, sweet pepper, onion, celery, chiles, cilantro, jalapeño, cumin, lime juice, chili powder, garlic, and 1 tsp. each salt and pepper. Cover; cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or high for 3 to 3-1/2 hours. Remove chicken; let stand until cool enough to handle. Shred chicken; return to soup. If desired, top with sour cream, additional chopped red sweet pepper or jalapeño peppers, snipped cilantro, and/or tortilla chips. Makes 4 to 6 servings. I was banded on the east coast and I have been provided with a plan from my nutritionist. Stage 1 - Full Liquid: fruit juices (dilute 1/2 with water), pre-made yogurt drinks, cow's milk, soy milk, Lactaid milk, tomato or V8 juice. hot cereals made very runny - oatmeal, cream of wheat or grits. Soups, broth, strained cream Soup, tomato soup, thicker soups would have to be put into the blender to make them smooth. Protein drinks, EAS Advantage, Atkins Advantage, Permalean, nectar, Designer whey, Any Whey, Isopure. I drink Isopure.....it comes in a 20 oz bottle, but I feel like I am over stretching my stomach when I drink the entire bottle to get the 40g of protein. Jello, popsicles, pudding - sugar free yogurt - dannon light and carb countdown Phase 2 - pureed diet - weeks 3 & 4 consistency of smooth applesauce, baby food Applesauce, instant mashed potatoes, saltines or oyster crackers, soft scrambled egg or soft boiled egg, low fat cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, sliced cheese, creamy Peanut Butter, mashed cooked Beans or refried beans, creamy tuna (use chuck light in water) or egg salad. During stage 2, eat only 1/4 cup at a time, every 4 hours. And no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. Phase 3 - after week 4 cut up foods into small pieces and use good judgement. I hope this helps! I still don't know how many ounces of liquid to take in at a time during the first phase. I think I over did it last night with drinking 10 oz of hot cider and then about 30 minutes later, 6 spoons of cream soup. I was not comfortable!

Hello all - new poster. 11 days post op for my gastric sleeve, spent the first seven days post op on liquids only and have been on a pre-select soft food diet for the past 5 days (oh what fun). Coming up with more and more odd combinations of refried bean, greek yogurt, egg white, sugar free pudding, and cottage cheese. Sad what passes for an "omelet" at the moment. Something odd I noted almost immediately upon arriving home was my sense of smell, particularly with regard to how foods smell, seem particularly altered. Have a household that has always enjoyed cooking and have done so several times for my lady as a thank you for how well she has been nursing me and the aroma of the foods is just nowhere near as full as pre op. Is this common? At least one other full bypass patient at my 1 week check in mentioned a similar change. Is it permanent or something that changes over time? Thanks all - and best of luck to all those on or getting ready for the same journey.

I Found a Non-Pill Cure for Post Op Constipation
kpay10 replied to unbesleevable1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I LOVE chia seeds and eat them almost every day. A simple idea is to add a tablespoon to yogurt or your protein shake. Both are yummy! There are tons of Chia recipes online, too! -

2 days post op and I'm STARVING

June 12 is my birthday and I can have soft food. I am going to a nice place that has grilled fish. I eat sugar free tapioca and drink EAS choco shakes. I like banana muscle milk and all yogurts. Can't have fruit yet. I saw a buffalo chicken purée recipe on this forum I want to try. I don't mind soupy oat meal. -
Welcome! You should start a thread and introduce yourself to everyone. Those steriods are bad for putting weight on, I have confidence you will get this regain off now that you are well. In general, I have been really healthy too. I thought maybe I had caught a mild cold until it became obvious I could no longer ignore the chills and fever and body aches. So this is always an interesting question. I am much better today but I had basically 3 days of overeating (compared to my normal) and then yesterday I was hardly hungry - almost like a balancing out day. Today, so far, I feel normal. I think my body really did want more food. I felt AWFUL and could not even muster the energy to do my easy go to foods. After eating the greek yogurt in the house I found myself eating the old easy carby foods. You know, a little cold Cereal by the handful. There was some disgusting microwavable mac and cheese thing I buy for the boys that I even ate (Easy Mac or something). That was absolutely atrocious and I will never buy that for them again now that I have sampled it. My son brought home a pizza and cheesy bread. Because I was feeling so bad, I wasn't making proper meals. I think this can be a good reminder for me how important it is to "eat right" because once you start wandering down a grazing, haphazard way of eating - anything can happen. Good news is that now that the fever is broke and I am just left with a cough, low energy and a stuffed up nose, I am back to eating my normal way and feel no desire to eat that crappy good. I really think alot of it was just that grazing/never quite satiated/don't feel good enough to address it properly thing.

Here's what my nutritionist wrote when I asked why the liquid diet was necessary and not just a low glycemic diet: "You are to follow the pre-op meal plan that was given to you. I know it's hard because it doesn't consist of a lot of substance, but it is a requirement from Dr. --- in order to have surgery. Every person whom is overweight or obese has an enlarged liver. The liquid diet helps shrink the size of the liver, fat around the abdomen and helps Dr. -- perform the surgery in record time and prevents him from poking your fatty liver with his surgical tools. If your liver is fatty and it gets poked it will bleed and therefore the operation will take longer. Please follow the guidelines and don't have anything that isn't already listed on the pre-op diet. Dr. -- has been known to put his camera in the belly, look at the liver and if it's still too large, a funny color from eating solid foods or if he feels that you cheated, he will cancel your surgery on that very day! So please take full advantage of 2 Protein shakes a day and 3 servings of cottage cheese, milk or yogurt to help fill you up as much as possible. The previous items include protein for satiety! " Guess that puts the fear of God (and Dr.--) in ME! I want my liver the right color, whatever that is!!

I don't cook. Eat lots of sliced low sodium chicken, yogurt, cottage cheese, apple sauce, quest bars, nuts, etc.

5 days post op rny & I think I already screwed up. My husband and I came to the local store just to get a few items, and I suddenly felt hungry, along w/ some lightheadedness, a bit of a weird cold sweat and tiredness (is the random dizziness normal?). My stomach growled, and my airhead brain forgot to pack some pudding or something else in case I got hungry. So feeling kind of shitty, I desperately made it to the yogurt isle and grabbed one of those Oiko yogurts (first time having dairy since surgery. I was told to have some non fat yogurt at this phase, so I thought this would be ok). I thought it seemed safe for me to take according to the nutrition facts. It took care of the growls, but it did not settle nicely. I’m currently experiencing bubble guts, and feel like I need to be near the restroom. Is this what dumping is? I’ve had my required protein and water so far & the yogi seemed ok to take. I’ll show the pic of the yogurt in the comments. Update: Omg it got 5x worse after I wrote the above paragraph. I was in horrible pain a while ago; abdominal diarrhea-like cramping and nausea. It finally eased down a bit after like an hour and a half. What the hell was that?? Could it be too much carbs? Am I lactose intolerant suddenly? [emoji85]

What's your post-op liquid diet? Are you hungry?
portia1972 replied to RedheadGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did, and a little bit of faintness at the end of my 2d week. But that went away as soon as I started on pureed foods. I had too many milk-protein shakes and had a bout of constipation, which was very painful, so keep that possibility in mind. I enjoyed low sodium V8, yogurt, V8 fusion, milk. -

what post opt diet to follow?
magpie30 replied to ssarose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each doctor goes by what they think will give you the best chance to heal with out extra complications. However, just like everybody's body is different some people can tolerate soft pureed foods sooner, while others cannot. You doctor recommends what he/she thinks is the best way to go about it. For me, i was only on clear liquids while in the hospital. as soon as i was home i was allowed full liquids which included things like yogurt and cottage cheese. At the 3 week mark i was allowed soft solids like eggs, tuna, canned chicken, cheese etc. I think you could be just fine with full liquids at this point. but be sure to take it slow. you don't want to cause a leak! -
What signs should I look for to know I'm full?
uberbuffaloegal replied to numeby2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi numby2017, I am just a bit ahead of you at 5 weeks today. At 10 days I was able to get alot of liquids, Soup and yogurt in. I thought the surgery was a fail. Now on soft food, I feel a pressure, that's when I know to stop or the food will come up. I rarely can eat more than a couple ounces of food and liquids are even going down slowly now. Surgery was a complete success, although, I have wicked head hunger. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
3+ Year "Vet" Willing to Help!
care bear replied to livvsmum's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on your success. I would appreciate some mentoring. I am one year out and it is getting a little tougher. I have a chronic immune issue that makes exercise a tad difficult to maintain. I have gained 5 pounds, and I still need to lose my final 10 (for me)/20 (for my surgeon). Going back to the basics, because I got hooked on yogurt pretzels. That's been my biggest sin so far. K. Aubrie: My doctor recommended that I have FF yogurt, or a piece of fruit, or something like that at about 4 o'clock because I told him I was so hungry by the time I got home I'd eat the butt off a dog. He said that it's not good to wait too many hours between eating. Try having a healthy snack and it should help you stay on plan. Congratulations on your loss and exercise habits. Sue

I did not like baby food. I pureed: Soup, chicken salad, egg salad, Wendy's chili. I also had yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, hummus. I still drank 1 Protein shake a day to help make sure I got in my Protein.

List Of "mushy Foods" Please Let There Be Salmon On That List.
honk replied to lassie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First week of mushies I could have yogurt, ricotta and cottage cheese. Week two added egg whites and canned chicken or tuna. I supposed you could do canned salmon. Salad is not a mushy it's a solid. I used Low fat Laughing Cow cheese to mix in the chicken/tuna (instead of mayo a lot less cals and fat) and on the egg whites. -

Thanks, Wikimikebceo! <tm one stop band info> Hmm. I think that, because of my high BMI, I probably have the higher profile port. Now I'm imagining losing weight and having my port look like a yogurt container sticking up under my skin...
