  5. Hi VST family & friends. I haven't been on the boards here in quite awhile. I took a break to concentrate on my schoolwork which turned into a schoolwork/ we're buying a house start packing break! So, yes, I am moving. My bf & I close on our first owned home in about 4 weeks. On 5/27 was my 6 month surgiversary & I am proud to say that I am down 101 lbs! Woohoo! I can't believe what a difference 6 months can make. I'll have to get new pics up at some point. I know how everyone here loves pics! LOL I have gone through so many changes mentally & physically that I can't even believe it. So many wonderful things. Obviously the 101 lbs gone is nice, but so many more NSV that I'll need a whole other thread. I'm afraid it will be manifesto like in length! I just wanted to say, "Hi. I'm back & better than ever!". I look forward to catching up with some old timers & making new connections. New pics & manifesto to come...probably within a week.

    Non-scale victories (NSV)

Prior to surgery I made a list of my non scale victories (NSV) on my iPhone but somehow erased them. So I decided to make a new list. I'll be adding to this as I come up with new ones. Buy clothes from a non-plus size store Purchase bra/panty from Victoria Secret Get a makeover Take boudior photos for my honey Maybe wear a pair of heels Ride a roller coaster Walk/run in a marathon Not be considered obese Not be afraid to wear a bathing suit Fit comfortably in a booth at a restaurant Own and ride a bike (especially long distance) Go zip-lining Always use the stairs Go cart racing Dance in public Sit at a regular desk (in school) Finish my degree Go to law school Volunteer work Plant a garden/landscape yard Attend Zumba regularly Incorporate clean eating in my new lifestyle Stand on my feet longer than 30 minutes

    NSV & update

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone. The encouragement is so appreciated!! I wanted to add this: another NSV for me is that I am healthy. I'm off my bp meds (well, I have been since the week before surgery, but it's due to the weight loss!) and haven't had any complications. I see so many posts from recent sleevers that are having issues, or having weakness with their food, and I really just can't help but be so glad it's not me. I realize that may sound selfish, but my journey is about me after all! What I've learned through this process is that my body - it's an amazing thing. The fact that I've lived this long being super obese and ONLY had high blood pressure for the past year is a miracle in and of itself. Add in that I just had major surgery less than a month ago and you'd never know it from looking at me, I realize I'm blessed. My body is healing well. My body is getting stronger. As much abuse as I've put this body through, it keeps on going... for me, this journey, even though I'm not at the end, has really taught me to LOVE MYSELF in a way I never did before. To love this perfectly imperfect body - and not just because it's the only one I'll ever have - because IT IS RESILIENT! It really brings a happy tear to my eye to know that I have more respect for myself now, and I'm not even close to the finish line. I'll get there... I'll (try to) be patient... but for now - this feels pretty great, too. Thanks again everyone! <3

Have a great day
  13. While I was driving my daughter to school today, she was being a bit weird and became silent. I asked her what was wrong and she said, " Ok, I am just gonna say it. You look weird to me". I asked her what she meant by that and she replied, "I am used to seeing my big, fat, old, cheery mom and not this skinnier old cheery mom." So, I instantly retorted that I was not old, just old-ER than her. I also thanked her for the compliment on my weight loss and reminded her that I was still the same cheery person. She said it was gonna take some time to get used to seeing me shrink. HAHAHA! That made my day and I hope it lasts all week.

    January 2013 Post Op

I love seeing everyones progress and pictures. You keep me inspired and motivated. I still feel funny taking them myself so I always end up deleting them before I post them here. Still pretty self conscious I guess. It seems like the 4th month is a hard one, especially when you add hair loss on top of it. Ugh :[ Im thankful I keep losing weight most weeks, even if its just .2 lbs. It comes off slow but sometimes I get a nice surprise and see a loss of up to 2.5 a week, just depends. I love the "full" feeling, even though it sometimes annoys me because I want to eat more. Nice having that extra guard in place as a reminder if I pick too big of a serving. I strained my knee so I'm having difficulty exercising-which I hate. I made it worse after a 4 mile hike with my family while camping this weekend. I thought going up hill would be hardest, that was pretty easy-it was staying upright while going downhill that had my knee screaming. Was a great feeling though to be able to take all those hills and keep up with my teenagers! Couldn't have done it last year that's for sure. NSV and we took pics (sweaty betty's) to preserve the memory :] Does anyone else get bored shopping? I used to love it, now it's just like, "ugh, whatever" most times. I do love finding out I went down a size and enjoy being able to shop in whatever store or section I want, it just doesn't hold all the luster right now for some reason. Maybe it's my energy level-I know I could use more Protein but the powder I bought last was nasty, need to see if I can exchange it or just buy a new one. More shopping....fun fun! Lol

    NSV & update

I'll start with the update. I'm currently 389, which is 70lbs GONE FOREVER from my highest weight at the end of 2012. It's so exciting... it somehow seems less daunting to lose the weight since I got out of the 400s. I'm so happy and grateful for my progress so far! My weight loss isn't really showing IMO, and by that, I mean I don't think others are noticing it. I certainly am, but all my usual clothes still fit, there are some that are bigger than others, but some that were snug before and now just fit like they are supposed to. I can see that the clothes are looser, though - just not quite enough that it's time to start looking for smaller clothes. That will come soon enough, and I'm not looking forward to it! I don't have many clothes in smaller sizes, so that means I'm gonna have to start shopping! My NSV is: I HAVE BONES, Y'ALL. Bones in my hands! Collarbones! Bones in my feet! I saw my reflection when I was walking to the parking garage at work today, and I happened to see my bones in my feet as I was walking. I was shocked! It's been so long since I saw those bones!! Soon enough I'LL HAVE ANKLES! *gasp* As I write this, I have a ring on my finger that I used to wear as a left hand pinky ring and it's now fitting on my right hand ring finger. Whaaaat??? I can't remember what size this ring is, but I think it's a size 7 - I used to wear a 9 on my right hand ring finger (well 8 1/2 would probably fit, but 9 just felt better). I can see the change in my body and I know that with all this fat sliding off in those places that it's just a matter of time before it starts coming off my belly/hip/thighs. I'm starting to feel like a lady again, and it's wonderful!
  21. What a great NSV! Proud of you Donna. Makes all the struggles worthwhile.
  22. ProudGrammy

    Bought my first "Large"

Wls4me isn't it funny how "other" people might fit into a size "large" all of a sudden and say, "OMG, no way - oh no!!!" whereas us more "full figured" people get thrilled with large ahhhhh - clothes shopping - one of the greatest NSV's of our new lives!!!! keep up the great job kathy BunnyK attn attn if you are reading this - yell, yes kathy here i am if you are not reading this - yell, nope kathy, not here OMG!!!! is that really you??? i almost didn't recognize you!!!! 71 lbs down!!!! WOW terrific doing and looking great!!! even though i'm seeing "less and less" of you btw - that was you dancing ??? when's your next lesson??? only kidding bud!!!! happy dance is free style kathy congrats
  23. 199.8 this morning. LOL scales definitely aren't "flying" downward like I hear with some new sleevers, but that's (mostly) ok. I think we all want to lose weight as quickly as possible, even when it's not realistic. If I weren't still trying to stick to full liquids/puree (essentially the same thing with my docs office), I wouldn't feel like I had a sleeve at all. No difficulty drinking, haven't had trouble with anything that I've tried, no nausea, soreness, etc. I'm hungry, too, but I'm hoping that will change once I start eating solids. On the NSV side of things, my pants have definitely gotten looser! I worked a big bike race yesterday and although it sucked to be in full police uniform directing traffic for 12 hrs, it was nice to have loose pants while doing it. No complaints (so far and knock on wood!) about the sleeve! I didn't weigh at home before going to MX, but I'm guessing I've lost 12-15 lbs since surgery (2 weeks ago). I've NEVER lost an average of 6 lbs in one week before and now, the scales will be going back in the closet! LOL I'll weigh again in 2 weeks, maybe a month, or, if I can stand it , 6 weeks. Until then, I'll try to make the best choices I can with soft foods (start those tomorrow) and keeping the calories down, but emotionally, I do better without those scale numbers. Cindy

    Holy crap......

Congrats on your NSV! Please post pics as proof!
  25. LOL, thats great Donna! I think that even though I don't need any new clothes, I should go into stores and just try things on, just because I can and it does make you feel good. I remember the days of having to try things on and not wanting to, knowing you were just going to leave in tears. Get NSV! Keep it up!
