Gradycat had it spot on; everyone really has a different weight loss and at different times. My first two weeks I was still gaining weight after having gained over 10 lbs from the surgery because of complications and some serious swelling. My first Dr appt, the scale didn't show so much but honestly, I was just so happy by the fourth week to have lost the amazing pregnant stomach and lbs gained that it was a win. I'm 50 and have lost a significant amount since the surgery but it also combined a pre-surgery weight loss of 36 lbs on the program. I didn't exercise for 6 or 7 weeks because of my complications and incisions still re-opening but I did notice I lose weight differently then I ever did before. When I went to see my Dr, they don't go so much by the lbs lost as much as the fat lost and the actual bmi. I'm finding I wear at least a size smaller then I did for my weight previously on diets and my shape is much different then ever before; it could be the age but the Dr did say that the loss will be different in general. I'm 11 weeks now and have lost a total of 86 lbs; almost 50 since the surgery. However, the one thing I've noticed is that my daughter and I are now sharing clothes and she's just under 170 while I'm 40 lbs heavier. I'm actually wearing about a size 16/18 and an 18 in jeans even though I'm still a few lbs off from onederland. My surgeon said that also is normal. We had a sort of 'argument' about my goal weight as they said my bone loss would be significant due to my age and that my size would not be the same. They capped it at 160 at the minimum goal weight while I wanted lower but now I see they were right. Things that never shrunk before; particularly at 200 lbs, are shrinking and I am much healthier. In the end that's what the goal has to be. You are still very close to your surgery; you have to give it time. Two lbs a week is ideal and a good weight loss rate. I am now at around 1 lb a week and really ok with that. Some weeks are even less and I'm ok with that too. When you start feeling better, you will notice a big change in your health and quality of life. Just focus on that and knowing you're going down at the rate your body needs. Sometimes, it's better to be pretty steady and slower for skin control, etc. Exercise will catch up in around 3 weeks to a month for the loss and firmness showing but make sure you stay with your Dr and moderate that so you can continue to lose. I made the mistake previously of exercising too much and lost quick at first then nothing. My trainer said it needs to be gradual for the metabolism to continue to respond. Congrats on your weight loss that you're having-you are really doing great. Hope what I wrote in detail can help out for now.

Surgery postponed due to Covid
STLoser replied to shannels's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That happened to me to. They called me on July 10 to tell me I was scheduled for July 23rd and I had to start my preop diet July 11th. It was a whirlwind! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
What % of excess weight have you lost & in how long?
Nicki100 replied to Kam-R's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My GB was 10/2/19. If you include the fasting prior to surgery, I’ve lost 90 lbs. My DH says the fasting doesn’t count but I told him it did count. I had to lose the pre-op weight to qualify for the surgery, per my insurance co! I’ll take any victory! It was hard to fast! -
Timing of multivitamin
Acooper8577 replied to GivinItMyALL's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Your vitamins should be liquid or chewable not capsules or tablets 10 year post op here believe me I have been deficient many times over the years from taking capsules. Now I use good brands of gummies and chewables no issues. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
rate of weight loss
California Guy replied to dal101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 22 lbs. in my surgery month of May 2020. Months following produced 18, 10, then 5 lbs. I have averaged just over 2 lbs. per week since the beginning of the year. Two pounds per week is a healthy, steady rate for weight loss. There are so many other factors to consider such as weight loss before surgery, your excess body weight, and your nutrition plan. -
I'm resurrecting this thread- I was wondering about this and a quick search shows you guys have had this discussion before. I have been wearing size 11ee, but lately, my feet seem to slide around a bit in my shoes. I went back to a pair that was normal width and they seem to fit better. For years, I was a 10 1/2 D and I am wondering if I'll go back to that. I think I still have some in my closet.

Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
TrueNorth1 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you have the mini? Did your bariatric team prescribe you meds for reflux? I was given a 90 day supply of reflux meds during the healing stage. Are you measuring small amounts of liquid (the size of a shot glass) and just drinking that amount every 20 minutes. Start with tiny then slowly increase once you can manage 1oz every 10-15 minutes. -
July 2020 Surgery anyone?
Solo4ever replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you're doing that bad! Those 100 pound reports are the exceptions really, not the norm. I am 5 months post op and am down 70. It does matter where you started remember that. I lose 1 to 2 pounds a week. About one week every month I still for a week. Then lose 3, then back to 1 or 2 pounds per week. Inhave never lost 10 pounds in a week, thats not reasonable. And if it was true its mostly water- not comparable. Sure the first couple weeks of surgery i lost 4 pounds a week. And stalled forever. Lol I log my weight every Wednesday morning. I do weigh every day cuz I'm a little obsessive- and sometimes that really messes with my head. By logging my weight only weekly though when I get frustrated and feel like I haven't lost anything- I look at the log. And realize oh, ok, I lost 2 pounds! We get so caught up in what we weighed just yesterday we don't see the real number. I still lose 8- 10 pounds a month ..and I'm happy with slow and steady than the big losses with long stalls! I just started losing my hair also, thankfully I have alot of hair so I think ill be the only one who really notices- but it does stress me a little. Hang in there and look at the bigger picture. Stick to your diet and don't overwork yourself- sometimes too much activity and not enough calories can really slow your loss. I tend to stall all week while I'm working, and actually lose my couple pounds each week over the weekend when I'm relaxing and less active. -
July 2020 Surgery anyone?
IWantTheDream replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear ya! I also am only 65 LB total loss. I feel like I’m loosing so much slower then every one else. I did get off my BP med last month but I was only on a half pill a day. I did have blood work done only because I have been having really bad Charlie horses I wake up every morning at 4:45 am with then it’s crazy but all my levels are good so who knows why I’m getting them. I also am loosing my hair like crazy now. I have to unclog the drain catcher after every shower. I feel like at this rate I will be bold by Christmas. My hair was thin to begin with. I envy everyone who is like oh I lost 10 lbs this week because I hardly loose anything and have more stall weeks then anything. I fear that my weight is not going to come all the way off and I will have gone through all of this for nothing and be totally disappointed because everyone else seems to post that they lost like 100lb by six months. And after six months it’s supposed to be harder to loose. I don’t know. My doctor has given me weight ranges I should be at every visit and I have not made one . So I am right there with you. Not all of us are feeling like we are doing great. But we are all in this for better or worse till the end. Just know you are not alone! -
Just made this. It serves 8-10 2-3 oz servings. Has sat well on my stomach in the pureed phase. 1 lb. soft tofu 1 bag of cauliflower stir fry rice with edamame and carrots Marinade 3 TBspoon soy 1 Tbspoon hoisin sauce 1-2 Tbspoon sriracha sauce 2 dashes of soybean oil Tsp spring roll sweet and sour Squeeze excess liquid from tofu by putting on a plate and laying 2-3 plates on top about 20 minutes. Dump excess liquid. Put tofu and marinade in zip bag for overnight. Put bag of cauliflower rice in microwave for 2 mins Drain tofu of excess marinade. Stir fry on med hi with a little soybean oil. It will look like scrambled egg that goes in stir fry rice. Add cauli rice and stir up to heat through. Slotted spoon to serve. No this is not restaurant stir fried rice. But it is also not carb heavy or calorie heavy. 1/3 cup is 68 cal, 2 fat grams, 7 protein grams, 6 gr carb.

Hi all- I'm at 3 months post op from bypass. I don't have any problems with being tempted by anything and I've learned now that if there's something I can like to try, to eat a bite and spit it out. No problems. However, I'm stumped with Thanksgiving. My kids are 19 and 23. This year we have all started working, my son and I both graduate college next semester and my son is about to leave our home. I think this will be our last Thanksgiving together as a family here at the house. I'm hitting pre-empty nest panic fast. I can't have turkey and the kids don't care so much about exactly how traditional it is. My daughter also has lost weight and is watching what she eats. I want to have it somewhat traditional but maybe have things all of us can eat without gorging. I also am just now starting to learn what foods I can and can't eat and there aren't many I can eat but I can eat a bit of potato. Would love to hear plans of others here (pre or post op) and how they're incorporating their diet with their families and traditions.

When I first got my surgery done, I actually had gained over 10 lbs from swelling and the first week kept gaining. But the third week I started losing super fast and I had gotten into the habit of weighing myself every morning in panic first and then in massive relief. Up until a couple weeks ago, it was every morning. I can honestly weigh myself every morning and watch the scale move or not move without problems; I am pretty happy with what i've already lost and gotten to and now just in it for losing at a slow or steady rate but becoming healthier and eating properly. Now, I'm close to 3 months out and maybe once a week. As long as I know I'm eating the right way (just started this stage as before it was just trying to get things down and nutrients met), I'll sort of check it every Fri. When I started the program back in Feb, my daughter (19 yo) also started trying to lose weight and exercise. We are each other's support; she's lost 52 lbs and is 167 now. We made a chart for the both of us with a square per lb lost; it helped her tons. Now we both have our weigh-ins on Friday morning together.

Oh gracious! I missed a couple of days & I came back to lots of beauty. greentealael you look gorgeous. That dress is fabulous on you. I call bell sleeves ‘so sorry I can’t help with the washing up’ sleeves. Tee hee. Jake, I bet you were the centre of attention at your reunion. You look so hot ( & so does your girlfriend). I love your jacket Wishmesmaller beautiful colour too. And congrats on your size 10 jeans. Woo hoo! You had me at wine & cocktails too bayougirlmrss. Sophie, your soft pink tree is beautiful. Love your roses too. I think the pants are a bit loose because they are a stretch fabric & have given a bit. I’m hoping they’ll return to their true size when washed. Fingers crossed. I don’t think I’ve seen size 4 (US0) clothing in Aust so I hope I don’t need to drop down to that size. I have a dress & a pair of pants I’m going to have taken in. Straight seams so they should be simple jobs. The dress will have to have the side zip removed but the neckline is big enough to go on without needing too unzip. A few of the pieces I bought last summer are too big but they seem to be the easiest to alter. Sigh. Mmmm. Looks like I have to lock up my Witchery tops otherwise we’ll start seeing pxts of Sophie & ms.sss in my blouses. I like Witchery too daisyJayne. They’re the best for pretty tops & blouses that are just that bit different & they go down to size 6 & xxs. Woo hoo.

Who has had the band? Pros? Cons? Successful? Complications?
LIna_g replied to HMA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my a band done in June of 2019, the only weight I lost was when I had to prep before the surgery and restrictions after the surgery total weight loss was 33 lbs, up to date I gained back 22 lbs and that after so many tights. I east the same portions I ate before, never threw up from overeating, can drink right before during and after the meal. I am not sure if my band surgery was successful. My doctor says I have to diet. So why did I have a surgery then? Does anyone have the same issues? -
Nov 2020 Post Op Thread
GivinItMyALL replied to Shalaura1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 19 days out, and doing better each day! Had a rough start. Down nearly 18 lbs post surgery, but about 37 since October. I am starting to eat more and more things, and it is tolerated well, but still can't eat very much. I am okay with that! My surgeon wanted me to start my multi at 7 days out instead of 14, since I had some complications. I started the B12 and calcium at 14. -
Well, I had a different surgery than you so my required protein intake is different. My surgery has the highest protein requirement and I was told to always get at least 80g-100g of protein a day on average (though for men I believe it's 100g-120g). I usually get around 90g-95g though at two months out I was barely scraping by with 80g. I drink one 30g protein drink a day and then get a minimum of 50g of protein on my own. I'm almost 10 months out right now and it's not quite 3pm here right now and I've had my protein drink as well as an additional 54g of protein so I've already met my goal and haven't even eaten dinner yet. I take into account everything I put into my mouth since my protein goal would be impossible without doing so. And I ALWAYS have a protein shake. A lot of people try and attempt to do without, but it would stress me the hell out if I even tried so I always have a protein shake either in the morning or afternoon. I never actually tested it, but there is a theory that if you drink a protein shake first thing in the morning it curbs most of your hunger through the day. Like I said, I haven't tested it, but I've had a few people I work with give me this advice. My problem is that I have to take my thyroid meds in the morning and can't have calcium or vitamins within 4 hours of taking the pill so depending on when I wake up I can't drink the shake until 4 hours have passed. Sometimes I wake up at 5am and sometimes I wake up at 9am so it just depends. I woke up at 7am this morning so my protein shake was in the afternoon today. So yeah, I personally, can't test the theory as I've eaten before I drink the shake.

Its done but oh my GOD
Deb9386 replied to mocha2871@yahoo.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It's miserable at first after the bypass. I didn't have a bowel movement in the hospital, but I did pass gas. The walking really helps with the gas, so you need to walk as much as you possibly can. It sounds as if it's starting to get better as you can keep some pureed food down. I wasn't allowed purees until 10 days after the op; it was just liquids. Hope you start feeling better soon. -
Hubby and I Carnivore back last Winter and we're doing it again now with great success. I eat mostly protein anyway so it wasn't so hard to avoid carbs as I was used to them in small quantity only anyway. We really like it. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks and he's lost 10 lbs and I've lost maybe 4-5 lbs. He doesn't do it to lose weight. It really regulates his blood sugar (he's diabetic). We eat bacon and pepperoni chips for snacks.

I am 5'9 about 180 meters. I weigh 258lbs about 117 kilos. I first ate about 400-500 calories post op but they told me to increase as I needed to intake 90 grams of protein per day and around 40 of fat and max 30 grams of carbs. I am now between 800-900 calories per day. Mostly from protein shakes or yogurt (80-90%) of my calorie intake. I work out every morning for 45 minutes (10 -15 minutes on the treadmill 2x a week) then weights or pilates. I also alternating treadmill which is high intensity running or jogging with cycling or cross trainer. My nutritionist says everything is as expected but the numbers are not going down at all.

Surgery postponed due to Covid
Jaelzion replied to shannels's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry, that's got to be seriously disappointing. I had my knee replaced in August and I was worried I might get postponed but I was right in that little lull period for COVID-19. I hope they are able to get you in sooner rather than later. -
Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
TrueNorth1 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I felt the same yesterday. Not really with pain...I just have aches, and not in the surgery area. It is the air/gas trapped inside. I’m feeling great today. I heated up my chocolate protein shake and have been sipping 30ml every 10 minutes. Whatever it takes. I think the first 4 weeks -8 weeks will be the most challenging. Figuring out what works and how much. I’m walking around a lot. Even put in laundry!! Now I will relax. -
One last try. Has anyone used the insurance approval time as one last college try?
FireEMT710 replied to MeTooToo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I first started this process in September of 2019, I was on the fence as far as if insurance would pay for it or not. My BMI was very close to the cut off of needing comorbidities, which I had none. So they told me not to lose weight. When my surgery was derailed due to covid, I gained 20 lbs. I didn't have a scale, so I didn't know this, until I went to my PCP for unrelated issues. I was shocked! I didn't change anything, but of course wasn't as active due to nothing to do. However, if I had tried to lose weight I was afraid that insurance wouldn't pay anymore. -
How long did you deal with head hunger post op?
summerset replied to Horseshowmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Head hunger as in "appetite and could eat something"? Well... my first WLS was March 6th 2001 so since 19 years, 8 months and 15 days. 😂 Head hunger is normal, everyone has it (yes, even the "skinnies"). Accept it and get used to it. -
Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
FireEMT710 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had COVID test today(NEGATIVE), phone pre-op, and found out my arrival time is 830am MONDAY!! OMG I can't believe it's almost here! The pre-op diet sucks... I haven't lost near as much as I thought I would, only about 10 lbs so far. My period started, but that shouldn't have much of an impact on it, or I wouldn't think so anyway. I've been so nervous that they would call it off for one reason or another. Now, the only reason I can see that they would call it off would be if they called off elective surgeries, but it doesn't sound like they will.
