April 17th revision from sleeve to bypass
  3. So excited. Put my stats into a BMI calculator and realised I'm no longer overweight. Yay. Still got a bit more to lose as my middle is still too thick to be healthy but being in the healthy weight range again feels amazing!
  4. Me, I'm a few days over four months (Oct 16). I speak in kilos so I'll try and translate: Before pre-op diet I was 134 kg / 295 lbs Surgery date: 127.5 / 281 lbs Today: 105.1 / 231 lbs That's just shy of 30 kilos or 64 lbs which I'm thrilled with, especially coz mine was revision surgery. (My pre-lapband highest weight was 153.5 kgs / 338 lbs). Boy do I feel different these days! Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Smooth Sailing for Anyone?

I had two trouble free surgeries. I think you’ll be just fine but everyone does adjust differently. The first time, i had the sleeve and i was totally fine. Ready to go back to work by day 5. I wouldn’t say i was in much pain or anything. I just felt a lot of gas pressure sitting on my chest. But that naturally went away by walking a ton the first few days. I had bad reflux so they did a revision 2 yrs later and honestly that felt like a nap. Except now i can eat like anyone else who has never had surgery. You can’t control how much weight you lose. I was fine with being a size 8. I accidentally made it down to a 4 and i’m still constantly losing weight. I’m sure your dr and nutritionist team gave you dietary guidelines or phases to follow. Stick to that and find exercises you like that you can stick to and you’ll literally be just fine. I would say if you’re fortunate enough to not have any complications or other health issues, then your surgery won’t be a big deal. Just remember it is a tool, so it all depends on how you use it. Good luck. I’m sure you will be fine. Also, fyi- the reason why you don’t see tons of complication free success stories is because we’re to busy enjoying our new lives to post all the time.
  7. I am so so excited to get my Endoscopy done..for a revision or gastric bypass. There has been so many things that I have over came in the last 2 years. My weight is the last thing that I am ready to loose and over come. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Overstitch Procedure 3/20

Hi i saw this post and wanted to see how you were doing one year out. My revision of my RNY (2002) is scheduled for 3/21/19. I hope you’re doing well. I’m nervous about this and am hoping to find someone who has had success. thanks!
  9. Don’t know yet! I got my date. Revision will be on 04/18.
  10. I am looking into revision/ gastric bypass because I have the gastric sleeve. What was your experience? Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I had the sleeve in 2015 and am now scheduled for revision due to reflux. My surgeon said they are doing revisions every day because the reflux after sleeve is such a big problem. He also said that they are now doing swallow tests before doing the sleeve. Damage in the esophagus leads to cell changes which can then cause cancer. I asked what the chances are of this not getting better and was told that there is no chance of 5he reflux getting better. The damage to the valve that goes into the stomach will not get better on its own. I've heard really good things about the RnY revision stopping the reflux immediately. I wish I'd have done this to begin with. Not sure about a procedure as new as the one above. Not enough info on long term side effects or success. 12. Sacramento here. Revision scheduled for March 12th because of severe GERD. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T377A using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Bypass- better weight loss. Better long term success. One operation which seems everyone is being revised to RNY anyway! Malabsorption to help absorb less calories!!

    March Bypass Buddies

My surgery is March 11. Mine is not quite a revision. I had lap band 2009, had it removed Oct 2018. Now I'm going for bypass. I know some people are successful on sleeve, but in my mind it's a physical variation of the lap band. No thanks.
  15. Okay I've been doing research for months now everything I've read points to RNY BYPASS. 1. Reflux is better 2. Higher percentage weight loss in first year 3. Helps fix more co morbidities. 4. Malabsorption helps lose weight by absorb less calories. 5. So many people revised from sleeve to bypass. 6. Smaller pouch less food. 7. Hunger hormone is better with bypass so full quicker. 8. Some people are fixed of diabetes type2 very quick after surgery due to better metabolism. There's so much information available via Google but the bypass is proved to be better long term success and if you've got 100lbs or more to lose. You only want to have one operation not two even if sleeve do become bypass it's not the same as a Virgin bypass! Goodluck!!

    March Bypass Buddies

I've seen quite a few people in this forum who are having sleeve to bypass revision. I was sort of on the fence about which to get, and I went with bypass. It seems now that was probably the right decision. (My surgeon called it the "gold standard" of bariatric surgery.) Ellf, is there some reason to believe that they might not be able to do bypass safely?
  19. There is no point now trying to second guess what you should have done, you can’t turn back time, work with what you have. Think yourself lucky you didn’t choose a band. They have discovered that they are not as successful as first thought and whilst they may be reversible they do a lot of damage. Most bandsters end up having their bands removed and revising to another for. of surgery.
  20. I’ve seen Way too many sleeve to bypass revisions. I went for the bypass

    SLEEVE HELP regarding hunger hormones

I know two people who had the sleeve and then the revision to bypass because of acid relux, damage to esophagus and one had gallstones. Sent from my LG-LS777 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. What are you chasing? Are you chasing a sensation that stops you eating? A band is not about restriction in that way it is supposed to make you satisfied on smaller portions of healthy food, the tighter you are the less likely you are to be able to eat those healthy foods and the more likely you are to eat high calorie non satisfying sliders. The other thing is that bands after a while seem to become ineffective. It may be that your band has come to the end of its useful lifespan and you may need to consider a revision

    I just wanna eat

It's so hard. I do think maybe you are doing activity too soon - mine says no sooner than 6 weeks. I know they are all different, but you are still on so little food. I think finding a therapist is really important and it's on my list of to-dos! I must do this next week because when I had my sleeve surgery, I could have done with it. I have just had a revision and I still need one. In the meantime, I just bought a book that looks good called Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery by Cynthia L Alexander. It has great reviews and I'm hopeful it'll help while I am looking for someone. I am actually kind of cross with the Bariatric Industry... I think that a therapist specialising in food addiction should come with the surgery. This isn't just about our bodies, it's more about our minds. We can feel so desperately alone after surgery and turn to all kinds of things to replace this addiction. We also go through loss and grief. Please, look in to finding a therapist. You can look online for one in your area that specialises in addiction. Don't let it slip away from you like I did where you have to end up having a revision surgery.

    Throwing up

My advice would be to find a bariatric doctor who has done removals and get it removed and discuss revision surgery if that is what you want. Vomiting is a bad sign. I had my band removed a couple of weeks ago after having it for 10 years. Hated it every day. Should have gotten it removed sooner. Even if you have to travel find an experienced bariatric doctor. Look online and Google reviews. Good luck.
