Even when I'd moved on to yogurt and cottage cheese, I still wasn't feeling full. I couldn't feel my stomach at all. I called my clinic worried that maybe there was nerve damage or something. From what I understand, it takes a while for your stomach to come out of the anesthesia and shock and trauma of surgery. I didn't feel what I recognized as "full" until I was eating flakey fish.

Work Lunch ideas?
butpleasedontlosethatbutt replied to Cindy757's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yesss, love this! ^^^ Here's my typical menu at work: Morning commute - this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Protein2o-Low-Calorie-Protein-Infused-16-9-Ounce/dp/B01GQ5HBGI/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1521227525&sr=8-3&keywords=protein%2Bwater&th=1 (Tastes a little like feet, but once you get used to it - it's not horrible.) Breakfast - 0%, 100 Calorie Greek yogurt cup Mid-morning snack - hard boiled egg or this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Oh-Yeah-Birthday-Cake-12/dp/B0171F2HL6/ref=sr_1_3_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1521228100&sr=1-3&keywords=one%2Bbar%2Bbirthday%2Bcake&th=1 *Lunch - 1/4 c. cottage cheese and tuna pouch. The herb & garlic and ranch flavors are delish! (I know it sounds gross together, but this is kinda like a mock-tuna salad and you don't miss the mayo. Add grapes, apples or green onion if you wanna get fancy.) Afternoon snack - hard boiled egg, raw almonds or LF string cheese *Dinner - protein slab (beef filet, fish fillet, chicken) and veggies if there's room *Not sure what options you have at your local grocery store, but mine has pre-made, healthy meals that are actually TWO servings for my new tummy! I'll usually eat half of one of these babies for dinner and then bring the rest to work for lunch, or vice versa. **Be careful with hummus - it's actually not a good source of protein... ***Most important - PLAN AHEAD!!! If you're unprepared, you'll grab the first thing you see; and at the office, that will RARELY be a protein-rich option. You got this! -
I was banded on Wednesday and I'm feeling pretty good. My belly is still tender, but only the incision where the port was inserted. The other incisions are fine. I've had little or no gas pain but i've also been on my feet walking around my house a lot and I've heard that walking helps. Today was my first day out of the house. I went to church and then went to Kroger. I was pretty pooped by the time I got home. The only pain med I have taken is Aleve twice a day. As far as I know, my doctor didn't do any other repair work so maybe that is why you guys are still in pain. Hope you're all feeling better soon. Are you hungry? I wasn't hungry until yesterday. My doctor is allowing me to have creamy soups, yogurt, veggie juices, and diet ice cream plus the Protein shakes. I haven't felt really full but then I'm not sure I know what that feeling is like. That scares me a little because I'm afraid I'll overeat and then throw up and I sure don't want to cause any slippage. Let me know how you all are doing please.

I start my pre-op diet on Monday and thought it would be nice for us to have a tread where we can talk about our pre-ops if we have them. I have to do 4 Protein shakes a day. 64oz Fluid and unlimited non starchy veggies. I can also choose 6 of the following - v8, oatmeal/cream of wheat, low fat yogurt with no fruit, no sugar added applesauce and sugar free pudding. My plan is to make a huge pot of veggie Soup tomorrow to eat as lunch/dinner, also planning salads, sauteed veggies and fresh veggies in a plain greek yogurt dip (hidden valley ranch). I figure the oatmeal and cream of wheat will do me for Breakfast along with a Protein shake when I get up. I love sugar free Popsicles and can see myself eating lots of them! I am worried about doing it for 2 weeks, worried about coming up with different ideas and such, but am thankful my pre-op does have some variety available!! How about anyone else?

I was allowed to have yogurt watered down with a little milk. I also made sure that I varied my protein shakes. I had premier and unjury chocolate, syntrax nectar lemonade and fuzzy navel, and some others. I also had some millie's sipping broths to use as some of my liquid so that I coudl have some savory. sometimes I'd add unflavored protein powder - but I didn't love the taste.

Ask your surgeon of course, but I was allowed blended bean and pea soups, cottage cheese, ricotta and greek yogurt.

How much weight does one generally lose with gastric sleeve surgery?
blondie46 replied to Amjo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat lots of cottage cheese, yogurt, almonds, and do protein shakes. I haven’t exercised except running around like a madman at work 😂 -
On the weight loss slowing, everyone here has already said that's totally normal. But since I'm a total nerd and tracked my weight loss, I can tell you exactly how mine slowed down. I've lost a total of 70 lbs over 23 months. Month 1: 3.5 lbs a week, reached -22 lbs Months 2-4: ~1.5-2 lbs a week, reached -41 lbs Months 5-12: 0.5-1 lbs a week, reached -63 lbs and passed my original goal weight at 11 months out Months 13-20: 0.2 lbs a week, currently at -70 lbs, 12 under my original goal Does this mean that you pretty much never dieted before you got surgery? Or are you comparing now to the first 6 months after surgery, where you didn't care about food much simply because you weren't hungry? After reading these boards for a few years, it seems that the people who have long term success do have to pay some attention to their diet to maintain their weight loss. But that takes a lot of different forms according to the specific issues and goals of different people. You won't necessarily have to pay as much attention to it in the long term as you do right now. Right now you're learning what works for you; later it will become habit. Especially if what you said above means that you never dieted much before - in this case you would be learning about what works for you for the first time. But for everyone, after bariatric surgery, you have to learn what your "new normal" is. Personally, my long term goal has been to maintain without having to calorie count. Before surgery, I was pre-diabetic and low carb was the only thing that ever helped me lose weight. After surgery, carbs are still an issue for me, though much, much less of an issue than before. Rather than limiting/counting carbs every day, I've found that having a 4-5 day period of low-carb every 3-4 weeks keeps my carb cravings in check. I still start my day with a protein powder latte and make sure that I have protein with every meal. Veggies help keep me full. If I feel hungry, I eat a snack, but I usually start with a piece of cheese or a few frozen meatballs (I love these things) before I have anything more junky. I eat sweets some days, but not all. I use things like sugar free ice cream or low sugar yogurt for a bit of a treat on other days.

What foods and ingredients can't you live without?
OutsideMatchInside replied to LadySin's topic in Food and Nutrition
I don't eat yogurt, all of it has too much sugar, the nutritional value doesn't make sense. I will never allow peanut butter back in my house. Too calorie dense, too little nutritional value and too easy to snack on. PB2 is no better it has sugar. I was buying pure peanut butter powder but my local grocery stopped selling it, and I haven't bothered to order more. Coffee ( I live off Coffee) Hot Sauce Penzey's Spices (lots of sugar free high quality spice mixes, most store brands have carbs) Flavor God spices EatMeGuiltFree Brownies (everything else they sell has bad macros I like the blondies) Halo Top Ice, haven't purchased any in about 6 to 9 months but I like it A White fish you like Stevita Stevia in liquid (only sweetener I will use) Water Drops Stevia always keep a protein bar in my purse. -
Can I still lose this weight? How long approx?
LetsDoThisAgain posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! (Month before shakes 354, pre surgery 309, current weight is 254) So last few days I’ve been doing 400-800 calories, 60+ protein and 40 or less carbs and my full 8 glasses of water a day, I’ve lost 10 pounds in 5 days, which is awesome because I’ve been stalled for a bit, I was 309 prior to surgery and now I’m 354, I wanna get down to 199. I’m 8 months out of surgery, is it possible to lose it by June? I just feel like it’s not gonna come off how it should now because I’ve stalled and haven’t lost as much as I should. I’m just scared and worried it won’t be off before summer because that’s my goal. I’m doing chicken, fish, meat for protein, veggies (made cabbage soup too), cheese, and yogurt (no sugar and I add stevia) i just still feel discouraged. I’m 24 if that also helps. Will the weight still come off quick even though I’m 8 months out? -
Hi everyone, It's been a while since I've posted, largely because I've been pretty busy enjoying my new life. But Lately I've been a bit worried that I may be on the edge of losing too much weight! I just stepped on the scale and weighed in at 198. I peaked a few years ago at 380 and my surgery weight was 351 this past May, so eight months ago. That is over 150 pounds lost in eight months! I had been feeling pretty good with good energy. But I had some knee surgery (which I had previously written about in this forum) a couple weeks ago and am now in a pretty poor state of mind. I'm sure it is a combination of painkillers and general post-surgical lethargy and depression from sitting all day, but man do I feel weak. I feel like a bag of bones with a lot of gross saggy skin! Should I be concerned tht I've lost too much too fast? How do I slow this down? I still can't eat anything to speak of. For example today I had a single serve container of Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries for breakfast, a 16 oz. bowl of chicken soup for lunch and two squares of pizza for dinner. I had a snack of three triscuits and a slice of cheese. Most days I also have a protein shake but am out today. I literally can't eat more than this. Anyone else been here? Anyone have any suggestions on how to slow this train down? I can't get out to the dr. until I have this cast removed and am approved to drive, probably another three weeks or so.

Using Warehouse Stores to Manage Food Costs After Weight Loss Surgery
Dr. Adeyeri posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
As you begin the process of weight loss by changing what you eat, you’ll quickly feel better (and lighter). For example, look at the difference in what you now purchase at the grocery store since your operation--you see much more ‘real food’ and far fewer pre-packaged items in the grocery cart now, that's for sure. But fruits, vegetables, protein drinks and lean cuts of meat cost more than pre-packaged junk food, which can be attributed to one of the reasons some lower income people lose the battle with obesity. Since you’ve made a decision to change your life, including what you eat, you’re going to be buying several of these healthier options in bulk, as they will serve as the new staples in your nutrition plan. Your dietitian and bariatric support team will prescribe some foods and drinks that you will consume just about every day so it makes sense to buy these items in volume. I love Facebook. It’s a way I can stay in touch with my patients (and their families) here in New Jersey between office visits and once they are on maintenance after reaching goal weight. I recently posted a query asking my post-op patients what healthy staple items they buy from the big warehouse stores—BJ’s, Costco, Sam’s Club--and I received many helpful responses that I’d like to share with you. Armed with these terrific recommendations below, you’ll eat healthier, save time, money and require fewer trips to the grocery store during your weight loss journey. “What "go-to" items do you purchase from warehouse stores since weight loss surgery?” · Premier protein shakes · Protein bars · Sam’s chicken sausage with mozzarella · Muscle Milk · Liter bottles of water · Optimum Nutrition protein powders · Frozen Mahi Mahi filets · Cranberry almond chicken salad in 4 oz. cups. · Chicken breasts and ground turkey · Baby Bell light cheese · Frozen veggies · Veggie burgers · Salmon fillets · Fresh spinach · Probiotic 10 and Fiber Gummies · Ready-to-eat veggie tray · Gold Standard Whey, Kirkland Fiber Caps, Opti-Fiber, Kirkland Calcium Citrate · Mini cucumbers · Bagged chopped kale salad · Kirkland plain Greek yogurt · Kirkland citrus green tea, Crystal Light · Figgy Pops, Healthy Choice fudge bars · Quinoa · Chia seeds If you are a member of these clubs, take an hour or two and really peruse the aisles in search of healthy products that support your nutrition plan. Keep in mind, many food items can be frozen and thawed when you need it to avoid spoilage. Ask your IWL dietitian for more ideas or bring in a sample of a food or drink you’re not sure of (take a screen shot of the nutrition label before you buy it). If you’d like to friend me on Facebook, I can be found here. -
Gettinmeback, you'll be fine, as long as you stay vigilant! Yogurt is going to go down easier, because it's not exactly a solid, and there is no Fiber in it. Try to add an ounce of granola, and it will make a big difference. I can easily put in 5 oz, sometimes 6, but I stay conscious and continue to weigh my meals. I still track everything. The difference between now and before the sleeve, is that now you are aware of your eating and you are in control! You have the ability to control what goes into your mouth, and how much of it. The sleeve will help you, as long as you work with it.

I am 9mos post op. I eat when I am hungry, which isn't a good thing, considering, I am never hungry. Over the last month, I have become lactose intolerant. I can eat 1 scrambled egg with american cheese and a couple slices of bacon. That takes me a good 45 mins to eat. For lunch, I usually have a half of a turkey sandwich, snack a yogurt or granola bar, and dinner is just whatever I have fixed that night, and only a couple bites of it. At this point, I should be able to eat 8oz at a time according to my NUT, but I'm not even close to that.

I am not allowed to take capsules, only tablets smaller than a dime. I have the chewable ones. They are kinda gross. maybe you can open the capsule and sprinkle it over a spoon of yogurt to swallow. If not set aside the capsules and get chewable for now? -
Feeling pretty miserable
Soulshine76 replied to cda97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start mushy foods in a couple of days, but I've been allowed to start incorporating some over the weekend. I really like the V8 Fusions. I drink a can every morning. I also found some fat free yogurt that is apple turnover flavored and de-lish. My nutritionist has allowed me to put tuna and chicken salad in my Ninja and purée it to pudding like texture. I put a little relish in it first. I also put potato salad in my ninja. I add a little more milk to it, but it's nice to get more flavor than just plain mashed potatoes. My favorite meal that I started this weekend and NUT approved is one Vienna sausage smushed up with a little mustard on it and a Laughing Cow cheese. That cheese is awesome, I make it last forever and it turns into a paste in your mouth. I also like the cinnamon cream of wheat in the mornings. Oh, and I started having a scrambled egg. I can only eat half of it, but it really fills me up. I have been walking/jogging on my treadmill for 40 mins everyday and I typically have one of the more filling selections after I have exercised. I still eat my Soups, applesauces, Jello, etc. I'm just not obsessing (and dreaming!) about food like I was last week. My cravings have changed and I'm not starving all the time. I think my body has finally accepted this new way of eating. -
Everything tastes gross! Help!
notmyname replied to HoneyBeBrave's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc says that of something doesn't work for you, try it again in a couple of months. I wouldn't force yourself to eat stuff you can't stand. Some things that have worked for me: Ricotta bake (google eggface's ricotta bake). Pureed black beans with a bit of cheese Lentils Homemade cocoa (1c fairlife fat free milk, 1TBL unsweetened cocoa, 1 packet stevia) eggs white fish yogurt - no sugar added (maybe try different flavors to cut up the monotony) - I like Oikos tripple zero and Chobani Good luck - I'm sorry you're going through this. -
Breakfast: Plain greek yogurt w/vanilla whey protien, raspberries and splash of lime juice Lunch: Taco salad Dinner: Spaghetti with dreamfields pasta 2c. of coffee 1c. of green tea 64 oz of water with mio

Well....the three spoonfuls of yogurt I had just came back up....and with it....a pill I had taken this morning. I've taken pills since I was filled on friday, cut them up, even one little one I take swallowed whole. Well, this was a time released Wellbutrin (so I didn't want to crush it or cut it) and it's rather small. Now, all day long I was drinking Water, drinking soy chai tea...I didn't eat anything except a piece of fudge (well, it was a holiday! and it melted in my mouth...went down fine) and I had about a quarter cup of chicken broth. I was amazed that the pill didn't go down, and that it was only partially dissolved. The pain is gone now. Guess I just had that pill floating around all day and finally it got stuck in the stoma. Wow. That pill is small...like say...a straw opening....is that too tight a fill??? Perhaps I'm still swollen. But I've lost 8 lbs since friday!

I got a big fat no lol I can add yogurt, but not the fish..it never hurts to ask I guess

If you like yogurt, I mix my protein powder in with my yogurt. I make my own yogurt, so it is tart. Adding the Vanilla protein powder and some pumpkin pie spice makes it taste like holiday cheesecake.

I'm exactly one week out from surgery and everything has been going awesome but I hit a bump in the road...! This morning after taking my meds I got very nauseated and then when I tried to eat yogurt my stomach hurt after a spoon. I decided not to eat and slept off the pain. I was able to drink without problems all day but when it came time to take my meds again the same problem happened. I also had the same stomach pain and ended up throwing up, which I had not done at all until today. Any suggestions as to why this could be happening and what I should do? Please help...! Thanks! What pureed foods are you eating?
CaPoppy replied to May2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Blended Soups, yogurt, refried Beans blended and thinned out with chicken broth, blenderized chicken and veggies thinned with broth, sugar free pudding thinned out, Jello... pretty much anything can be made to work. Just blend it and add broth or milk to thin it out. -
Did anybody here come home with the draining tube from the hospital. I had surgery 12/31 and I came home with mine. I find it hard to get a comfortable sleeping position. Only two more weeks of all liquid diet for me. Mi can’t wait to have Greek yogurt or something more substantial.

Abdominal pain...feeling stupid.
2Bsmaller18 replied to mirmir's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I got sick that second week after surgery (from the flavoring in MOM) I felt like crap fir over 24 hours. I went back to clear liquids only and a little yogurt. By day 2 I was back to the new normal.
