  1. This has been a crazy week. One of those weeks where I worked every day and had some work event each night. Just exhausting. But...several interesting things happened: 1. A few different NSV's this week. I was able to wear several things from my closet that I haven't worn in a couple of years. That was really good.....I needed them for a couple of dressy events. 2. I totally got checked out by some guy at the gas station. I seriously don't remember the last time that happened. I tend to be oblivious to that stuff....but this was really obvious. 3. A couple people noticed and commented on my weight loss....they are basically the first that have noticed,....which is weird since I haven't lost in about two weeks....but whatever. 4. And the biggie...my first stuck and burping episode. My period came this week, unexpectedly because I have an IUD and haven't had a period in months. When I had surgery I was warned that some people seem a little tighter around that time, but didn't give it much thought because I haven't been having periods. I'm about 5 weeks post op and have no fill, so since starting back on "normal" food I have basically no restriction other than what I am attempting to do...basically just a diet at this point. So, Hubby and I take the kids and go out to dinner at a BBQ place he likes. I order some BBQ beef with roasted veggies. Have had it since surgery a couple of times, no issues. First bite, I guess it was too big or I didn't chew enough or both and BAM! Stuck! Painful, feels like a heart attack stuck. I tried sipping some Water, the water went down, but still stuck and still in pain. I sat for a couple of minutes but was getting increasingly uncomfortable so I quickly headed to the restroom. Then I started with the sliming. Never had it before and it was very unpleasant. Spitting and spitting and that hunk of meat feels like it is stuck in the middle of my chest. I spent about ten minutes in the bathroom, before it finally just went down, I burped and it was basically over. Dinner was over too, I managed to sip a little tea and that was it. Kept with liquids for about 24 hours after. So......my first fill is in just over a week. I suspect that I will have to be more careful than I have been and if my period comes again, super careful at that time once I have the fill added. First fill in a week,,,,can't wait!

    NSV Moment..

Good for you. These NSV continue to make me emotional too. My favorite one has been when the hubby puts his arms completely around me. Who knew a hug was so GREAT!!!

Friday, February 5th NSV roll call!

    Loving all of these NSV's!
  5. Puja - where are you in India? I was in Mumbai, with a short trip to Delhi and Agra. 10 day trip in total. To answer your questions, well, I took some Pure Protein Bars with me, and ate one per day. I also ate eggs for Breakfast. I'm pretty sure that some days I was below my Protein still, because there were a couple of meals at a friend's house that were vegetarian. I ate chickpeas and lentils those meals, but those aren't as protein rich as meat, I think. I tried to focus on protein as much as possible, and ate veggies like cauliflower when it was available. Like I said before, I still had rotis and rice and stuff, but just small helpings to tone down the spiciness. When it was available (it wasn't always served) I used raita to tone down the heat. I'm also pretty sure that my calorie counts were above normal (but apparently not more than I burn, maybe 1500-1700), especially the days I ate Butter chicken (YUM!). But I didn't really have a way to log it, and it was just 10 days, so I just listened to my sleeve about when it was full, and hoped that would be enough. I actually wasn't sure if I would lose weight or just hold steady while I was there, but I ended up losing, so that was great. It was a once-in-a-lifetime vacation, and I love Indian food, so I just decided I wasn't going to worry about it. The only time I really had a moment of regret was when I was eating some fabulous butter chicken, and wanted to eat more, but I just savored it as much as I could and then stopped when I got full. likasulema - good luck on your weight loss! I'm sure you'll be able to fit without a seat extender on your next trip. Its the little NSV's like that that really make a difference.
  6. I am hoping that one day I will be able to eat normal food again just in smaller portions. I don't mean fast food but if I go out with my family to a restaurant I can order pasta but only have a small amount? And what does NSV mean? I've seen in on a lot of threads.

    Gotta Fly-Embarassing Question

Thanks Jill. Tonight I'm actually wearing my sister's old jeans-size 20!!!!!! (a major NSV for me!) I don't think I'm a 20 yet but for some unknown reason I was able to fit into this pair! Do you think I might be able to get away with this without total embarassment?
  8. I had to take some paperwork to my neurosurgeon's office this morning. The last time I was in there, I was 325 pounds. I am now 268. To me I don't look that much different, but she had to do a double take when I walked into her office. I guess I look that much different. I have dropped from a 26 to an 18. It feels good to know all my hard work is paying off.

    18 Month Follow Up

Oh.....NSV for me today. Went to a public pool this afternoon and got in without feeling like I needed a shirt on. First time ever. Gotta love Texas weather .....hotel pool in November. Yes I was showing off the abs. I paid for them, I'm showing them off.
  10. Thought I would give an update here. VSG was done 9/14/2021, today is 11/14/2021. THE GOOD: Down 55 lbs from surgery, 64 lbs from the start of the pre-op diet, and 94 lbs from my heaviest weight. Hypertension and asthma diagnoses were officially withdrawn. Hypogonadism is under review. CPAP average setting went from 16 cm H2O to about 7 cm. Have an appointment soon to see if I need it any more. Depression has almost completely been put in remission. Went from 52/34 to 36/34 in the same cut of jeans, and actually need to go see if they have 34/34 at the outlet. Went from 4XL or even 5XL shirts to L or XL (mostly XL). Went from 15EE boots to 12D; my arch has returned, which shocked my surgeon and my PCP. Running and enjoying it for the first time ever. Way too many NSVs to count THE BAD: Still occasional bouts of constipation which mess up scale results, but then it all, um, resolves and the number on the scale goes WHOOSH. Had to fire my NUT for being a horrible person. Found a new NUT who is amazing and who does the same fitness I do. The extremely restrictive diet (especially under the old NUT's "guidance") caused a massive drop in strength, which did not help at work. It also caused me to stall out. The new NUT increased my intake from 600-800 to 1000-1400 cals a day, and WHOOSH went the scale once again. It actually hurts to sit down because my butt is bony. I'm cold all the freaking time, even when it's objectively-by-any-sane-standard not cold. Needed a chiropractic adjustment because my hips are not used to carrying 25% less of me and were hurting badly. Had to replace expensive work boots because they were giving me blisters. Clothes I can get from the Goodwill and Ross Dress For Less; work boots not so much. THE UGLY: Eating too fast or even one bite too much means spending the next 30 minutes to an hour in great physical discomfort. It takes time for the full signal to arrive in my brain. Eating lettuce salad was, in hindsight, a really, really bad idea. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Some gnarly skin tags as my fat melts away, and the beginnings of some loose skin. Added in a daily dose of collagen peptides to help. One incision is still quite visible, though it's healed over. Starting to notice a little more hairfall, including head, beard, and chest. Still the best thing I've ever done for myself.
  11. Ummm, I know I'm kind of a softy, but this just made me really mist up. It hit me...a year ago the woman whom I have fallen for, would not have given me the time of day romantically. To be fair, a year ago she would have not attracted me either. She is so physically dynamic that we would not have connected. But three months ago we met, and the attraction keeps growing. Yes she's seen me naked, she sees the lose skin, but she feels the muscle underneath it, she runs and bikes with me so she knows I can keep up with her. But what has been important was we moved beyond the physical to the intellectual and emotional intimacy and this is where we have really connected. But it would not have happened apart from the physical transformation. It is important. It's a game changer. It is a huge NSV.

    Still stuck!

It is hard. You have to want to be healthy more than you want fast food. I know you've heard that WLS is just a tool to help you lose weight. You've made a decision to alter your body for the rest of your life for better health. This is the time to use the tool your surgeon gave you and fight against cravings and head hunger. It's hard to do at your stage. He'll, its hard at my stage but it gets easier every day. Now I can turn away from junk because I want this. Yesterday I had a non-scale victory (nsv). A friend called me because she was broke down on the side of the road. I went to help her out. She gets in the car and says she was on her lunch hour and asked if I'd take her to McDonalds to get something. I took her to McDs drive thru, ordered her lunch and only had a fleeting thought about getting something but it passed quickly and I didn't get a single thing. My craving for that crap is gone! I was super thankful. There was a time I couldn't drive past fast food without stopping. Point is: fight your cravings and it will get easier to resist. Good luck!

    NSV

LOL! That's so awesome No NSV's for me this week. However, my company has a fancy suite at Coors Field, home of the Rockies, and on Thursday I was the winner of 2 tickets plus the free parking pass. My husband and I arrive in the suite (which is right behind home base) and there's a TON of food - hotdogs, brats, all the fixings, chips, nachos, fajita bar, beer, you name it. Popcorn, peanuts and crackerjack are in bowls all over the place. I was really proud of myself - I ate a brat and a hotdog, no bun, just a little mustard. I put some of the chicken fajita meat on my plate, put lettuce and cheese on it, and ate that, then snacked on roasted peanuts while drinking nothing but Water. I did have a cookie though - they brought them fresh-baked around the 6th inning and I could not overcome the smell of oatmeal raisin! But otherwise I didn't go crazy and gobble Even when the icecream bars were passed around in a basket on the 8th inning, I held my ground and said NO.
  21. Thank you Robin!!! Just got my secret santa. Loved it all! I think Robin must have had a link to my mind. Pear berry bath set with body spray, lotion, shower gel and bubble bath (one of my NSV's will be being able to take a bubble bath again). Also some coffee cake candles...smell so yummy and a great little machine for relaxing sounds. I use one of these to help me sleep at home but it is such a pain to take when I travel. This will be such a help on those trips. And it has WIND CHIMES....my favorite! thanks you again Robin! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

    NSV

I totally relate to the clothes NSV but the biggie for me has been able to get through a rock and roll dance class with my husband and not moan about how much my knees hurt. Soon I'll be able to keep up with him al night long at dances.
  23. 30 days out and total loss are 22 pounds I lost them all in the first two weeks then stalling since then and even gained 4 pounds. I lost 26 pounds but not after this 4 pounds gain, total loss is 22 lbs. it is impossible that these 4 pounds are FAT! they must be water. I lost my appetite again and I don't feel that hungry. I really eat very little. since two days I was very hungry at dinner, I ate tuna tiny pieces in a small plate then I vomitted all. simply I can't eat much. I try to get my calories from protein. I am sure I am not getting enough but that is the best I can do. I thank god I can tolerate soft poached eggs very well and I love yoghurt. it passes very smoothly. I can also drink milk. I can eat like 2 eggs and one yoghurt a day. I am so frustrated. I am afraid I will stop here. I still have so so much to lose. as for exercise, I try to walk like 30 minutes a day. I hated protein shakes unfortunately. but my menstrual cycle was very disturbed in the first two weeks. I was spotting for like 20 days then it ended. may be all these is related to hormonal changes. the body is in shock. I really wish to reach my goal weight and to lose then I am sure maintenance will be easy with the sleeve. it is almost impossible to over eat and I don't crave sweets at all. I even hated the chewable centrum cuz it is very sugary. that is one NSV i guess.

    A New Nsv!!!!!!

wow Michelle, great NSV - most of our huge towels wrap all the way around me now but I'm still holding on to this really grotty bath towel that I used when I was 20 and pregnant with my now 14 year old son - I have a photo of me 9 months pregnant with the towel completely wrapped around me, bump and all - and it still won't go around me yet! One day soon tho! Well done you!
