A normal day of food post op?

At three months, I was eating scrambled eggs or rolled oats for breakfast (2 scrambled eggs took 3 days to eat & a serve of rolled oats took 3 or 4 days). For lunch I ate about 50/60g of chicken or half a pork sausage or a slice of smoked salmon wrapped around a small wedge of cucumber. Dinner was about 50/60g of steak, lamb, pork, fish with two or three beans or a cauliflower floret or a tablespoon of steamed cabbage. If I cooked mince I’d add carrots, celery, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes & sometimes peas & corn & I could eat about a third of a cup. My snack was always high protein yogurt (a 160g tub or 260ml drinking yogurt) & sometimes fruit (slice of watermelon, 8-10 grapes, a mango cheek) or sometimes a cube of cheese. The fruit & cheese were just if I felt hungry. I ate my snack/s in the afternoon or after dinner.

    Revision completed

Had my revision on 11/19 and it only been 8 days but still having a hard time sitting up for long periods of time. I have to lay down at some points during the day. I'm able to get my protein in since I have it in everything I eat and drink. So have to say it's not that bad now that the swelling in my stomach has gone down. 4 days out so many ??s

I had surgery on Thursday the 19th, home on the 20th and no real pain. Took pain meds twice before bed “just in case” and that’s it. I also feel I have a lot of energy consider I went through surgery. I was back working (from home) on Tuesday (6 days after surgery) and have no problem working 10 hr days. Busy year end time. I get up every hour and walk around the house for 10 min so I’m not sitting all day. I did 7,000 steps the other day. Not bad for 1 week after surgery. I’m very pleased by the recovery. I was for sure expecting worse. I have just started purged and soft food but I’m scared! I’m still eating soup and shakes but know I need to move onto other foods. how are you doing with food? And weight loss?
  5. Hey guys and gals, I have my vsg this past Tuesday. I’ve been in severe pain (8 on a 10) since surgery. If it’s not the gas pains still killing me (walking helps, but it’s still there) than the incisions (7 made) and muscle soreness are doing it. The doctor gave me oxycodone at home, which is helping minimal. Did anyone else vomit blood the night after surgery? I did, but my doctor said it was not unusual. Anyone else feel this amount of pain? If you did, when did it go away? Any other tips? Thank you

    December 2020

@LayersofBea. I'm December 8th too, but for gastric bypass. Not scared of surgery. Not scared of recovery. Terrified that I won't be tough enough to not feel deprived and sorry for myself about 3 months into this. So scared I'm going to fail at this too. However, my therapist reminded me that I've researched the heck out of this, worked hard on the 10 habits, set up my kitchen and pantry to support me and whole family with healthy eating, and spent the last 6 months preparing mentally and emotionally (in addition to physical prep). How about the rest of you who are close? What are you feeling? Sent from my SM-G950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I am very picky about the protein bars I eat. I love Built Bars not only because they are amazingly delicious, but they are also fairly low in calories (130 to 180 calories) with 17-19 grams of protein and 5 grams of sugar or less.

    Losing the 15 lbs...

My insurance didn't have a weight loss requirement. I did have 6 months of monitored weigh-ins but I was just told not to gain weight in that time. I ended up losing 68 pounds though. I did an elimination diet where the first month I cut down my portion sizes and didn't go back for seconds, the second month I cut out soda, third month I cut out rice, fourth month I cut out pasta, fifth month I cut out bread, and sixth month I cut out potatoes and beans. As for exercise, I have two back injuries so what I could do was really limited. I just walked 3-4x a week 10-30 minutes. It worked for me. Plus, it made it easier for me not to cheat and I was better able to prepare myself for how I would be eating after the surgery.

    December 2020

I'm scheduled for 12/8. I'm very nervous. At the beginning of the year I was on top of my diet and exercise. I had some personal stuff in September and haven't followed a healthy eating diet since then. I just got my date. I don't know if I'm ready. My Dr is going to place me on a specific diet 10 days before but right now I'm just trying to go back to what I had practiced. Chewing 30x, taking sips, no snacking, avoiding carbs, protein first, etc. I really want this, I'm just worried /:

You can buy seaweed face punches on Amazon for around $8-$10. I used to use one when my kids were younger for their bento boxes. They also sell fun veggie cutters for hearts and flowers!

  14. Had my surgery 10/26 and I too am at week 4. I only lost 2lbs. in this week. My biggest shock was the amount of pain I was in. I generally have a high tolerance for pain but this was terrible. It's much better now, only minor aches and pains when I bend or sit too long. The constant soreness is gone too. I also am having trouble staying asleep at night and wondered if anyone else was having this same problem. My surgeon chalked it up to my metabolism changing as well as hormones, but I am ready to get a full nights sleep!
  15. I had my bypass surgery on 10/20/20. 5 weeks today. Looking for a buddy or more for some support too.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Hi Natasha....I am the same date as you, last Thursday. I have been taking gasx as soon as I feel the gas pain and it goes away pretty quick. Try to make a point of walking around your house for 10-15 minutes every hour. The movement moves the gas. I have been having premier protein shakes, butternut squash soup and water. I never feel gas from the protein shakes but I start to feel it after the butternut squash soup. I have been very careful with portion at a time and making sure I walk around and I don’t have any pain except for gas once a day. The worst gas pain I had was right after surgery...Thursday and Friday. let me know if that works for you!

  20. Hi everyone. I'm so glad I came across this site as I have been desperate to talk to people to see how others have coled with their weight loss since surgery. I am really struggling and have found old bad eating habits have crept in again. I am 18 months post surgery and lost 7 stone 7lbs. Most of that ca.e off in the first year but the last 6 months nothing is coming off. It just stopped. I have mobility problems and walk with crutches and if I go out have to use an electric wheelchair. Because of this the surgeons said I would possibly lose 3 stone if I was lucky so in their terms I've.more than doubled my weight loss. But due to only being 5'1" I'm still obese at 11 stone 7lb. I have become so frustrated at not even a 1lb coming off each month I've started eating crisps and cake and chocolate again. I know I shouldn't but I'm addicted again. I didn't touch anything sweet for over a year but now, boredom, loneliness and frustration have triggered old habits. I need help, I just don't know what to do and don't want weight to go back on. I can't walk or exercise, and started to get very down that the weight wasn't coming off I've given up. Did anyone else have this happen? If so, what did you do and how to cope? ANY ADVICE? LOOPY
  21. I ate 10 mussels (140 calories, not shown) earlier, but was still hungry so this was up next. Cucumbers, carrots, dates, cranberries, pumpkin seeds & some cheddar: 156 calories. Ate it all. So total for “lunch” is 296 calories. Im seriously suffering from lettuce withdrawal. I feel like im just eating soggy trail mix without it. 😭

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

From what I've seen, most people lose all their weight in the same time frame, regardless how fast or slow they lose. It's hard not to compare. I started out bigger than most and a lot of people who are bigger lose super fast..for me, I'm losing faster than I ever could on my own, and I feel like as long as the scale keeps going down then I'm happy, but I don't lost as fast as a lot of people my size. I lost fast (for me) the first couple months, which was around 20 pounds a month, but now I'm losing at a rate of about 10 pounds of month. That's still so much faster than I ever could on my own, and I figure if I kept losing 10 pounds a month I could be around 200 pounds in 10 months and I'd be beyond thrilled! I was lucky to lose 5 pounds a month even when I tried my hardest before wls. I think you all are doing an amazing job and should be proud! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    December 2020

Hello! My surgery was just rescheduled from January 2021 to December 1, 2020. Now I am only a week away! I am a bit worried that every one else has 2-week special diets before the surgery, but my patient guidebook says to eat normal the week before, and I just have to be on a clear liquid diet for 2 days prior. I am also hoping that the surgery is not rescheduled last minute due to Covid. It was hard getting my shifts covered at work when the date changed to 12/01. Wish me luck!
  24. Second this and how! Sugar-free popsicles were life-savers for me. Just do what you can and try to stay hydrated. I used genepro as well- I was really sick as a dog for the first couple weeks for complications but especially the first 10 days. Try to drink as much as you can and try broth. Some people have it easier with warmer and some with cold. I know it can be stressful at this stage so just do the best you can. Move around and keep track of when you are drinking- force about an ounce at a time of anything you can handle.
  25. I lost the 20 in about 10 weeks and it was actually 22 lbs. I now bounce around 5 lbs but am having no problems keeping it in that range. With VSG I wasnt able to get under 164.8 and struggled to stay under 170. I am not having that problem with this revision, but am missing the restriction from the VSG.
