    Exciting NSV today!

Congrats! I'm not in school anymore, but I remember those seats and I remember the shifting required to let the neighbor pull up his desk. Awesome NSV!
  2. I am SO comfortable with my sleeve. I have read that some people are scared or weary of restaurant dining. Not me! I have been out to eat several times and have CONQUERED the menu everytime. Today, I went to lunch with a friend that I haven't seen since surgery. We went to eat at our fave Mex rest. I ordered a carnitas soft taco lunch combo. I ate the "guts" out of my soft taco, a couple small bites of rice and 2 chips dipped in salsa. I was Stuffed and satisfied. Saturday, I was in SF with some girlfriends and we ate at a rest. on the pier. I had the grilled mahi mahi tacos. Again, I ate only the inside of the tacos, tried one of my gf's garlic fries and another gf's crab dip. Full and satisfied! The point I want to make is that it's OK to eat out. Don't feel like you need to seclude yourself at home, embarrased by how little you eat or not sure how to order your food. The conversation and time with loved ones will always trump your embarassment. I am comfortable and confident in my sleeve. I was sleeved so I can live again! I have been a professional dieter for so long (like many of you!) and I know how many calories are on a plate just by looking at it. I make sure to make healthy responsible decisions when I eat. I may have a nibble of the "bad stuff" but I don't dive in. That's the key. Don't let your sleeve hinder your decisions on life, embrace it and let it guide you. HTH!

    New way of thinking

congratulations on your NSV and what a wonderful attitude. As I travel a lot, I know that you will also be more comfortable in the plane seat. Well done and let us know what you decide on for an outfit for the event.

    Funny NSV

I teach high school and thankfully this happened before students were in the hallway. I left my room and started to walk down to the workroom. A coworker was walking several steps in front of me when my skirt fell down. Thankfully he did not turn around when I gasped and ran into the closest classroom. I also had a slip on so I was covered. I'd love to see our security coverage of that one though! Love that this is the first year in the 13 I've been there that I've worn a skirt or dress and LOVED it!

    New NSV's

*****HI JACK***** Julie--rather than turn it in, why don't you ask around here and see if any other frequent flyer would want it. It can be like a baton in a relay, as each person shrinks out of it, they can pass it on!!! ****Back to GREAT NSV's*****

    Another NSV!!

Angela, congrats on the NSV. That is wonderful. Keep up the good work.
  8. Thanks again to all those with encouraging replies. I have cried everyday since I had the surgery. However, today was a better day. I did not cry. I returned to work today and was able to see many of my friends who had smiling faces and words of encouragement. A couple of them even told me that they could tell I was already losing weight because my cheeks were not as puffy. (NSV!) I had a NSV before work today too. I put on a shirt that did not fit me prior to the surgery and it fits perfectly now. Cant wait for a couple of weeks to pass and see that it's too big. I'm still having probs getting the Protein and nutrients, but I am hanging on to y'all's words of get the fluids in. Today at work was hard physically, because I became exhausted early in the day, and later in the day I had some pain from my incision sites. My boss is the bomb though, and recognized I was not feeling well and sent me home early, no doc in pay. YAY! Over all, I still feel a little down, but I will say things are getting better slowly. I still have not weighed myself. My doctor's appointment is next Tuesday, and I will weigh then. I'll probably invest in a scale for home, just because I'm so bloody curious. lol! I'll start a ticker next week.

    Nsv For Me

Howdee all~ I had a doctors appointment today and I found out that I lost FIVE pounds since my last visit with him four weeks ago. I am starting to think my house scale is a big liar~~ According to my doctors fancy schmancy scale, I weighed in today at 222.5. My last weigh in with them was 227.5......According to my scale I weigh in at 219. I am going to keep using my scale for the Fall Weight Loss Challange weigh ins.....cause it does show a decrease in weight...soooooo we will get it as accurate as we can..When I was at the doctors today, she laid me down on the exam table, so she could poke and prod at my belly and she said "Oh my gosh would you look at how FLAT your tummy is getting"...I was so proud!!! I can actually feel my hips and bones, and a waist line....yes my girlish figure is coming out~ Watch out world, I can kill with these hips~And not because they are soooo huge...but because they are soo damn sexy ehehehehehe I AM SOOO PROUD. And the bigger part of the NSV is....I WORE A PAIR OF JEANS THAT I HAVEN'T SEEN IN TWO YEARS~ They are gorgious with detailed bead work on them....ooo soo pretty~~~ And not to mention they are a size 20~~ thank you very much ~~I was in a size 26 when I had my surgery!!! HELLO~~~~I can't wait to bust out the other size 20's that I was wearing! I have such a cute pair of jeans that lace up the sides that I am DYING to wear....maybe this weekend, or next ,,,, hummmm should be interesting to see!!! Next weekend..Nov 5 is the end of season Staff party for the haunted house. And my birthday is Nov 7th...so we usually celebrate all at once~~ I cant wait to show off a "new" outfit!!! I will talk to you all soon~ Thank you for sharing in my excitment!!! TTYL
  10. I'm down 9.8#, 1.69 BMI on the week, for a total loss of 15#, 1.81 BMI. Getting back on aerobic machines this week, but also going on purees, so I expect things to slow down quite a bit. We'll see... Great job for everyone so far! I don't think we've seen anyone who hasn't had some kind of progress this month, NSV or weight loss, so we can all Celebrate like crazy! :tt2:
  11. I went shopping during lunch today...and I slipped into a size 10 petite Lee Rider jeans. YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!! I'm So So So So happy!!! Doing a happy happy dance!!!
  12. I am 52 years old and was banded May 20, 2008 and have lost 40 pounds and TODAY I did a one hour BOOT CAMP at the Gym!!!!! WOOOOOOOO !! I never dreamed I would ever be able to anything like this again but Praise be to GOd I did it. Just had to share!:smile2:
  13. Well, for those of you celebrating with me over breaking up with the sleep machine, we are back together again. I love the concept but it turns out I was waking up frequently, gasping and all the rest. It may be that I am with this thing for the duration. Last week I was really dragging, pain index high (I have arthritis) and just not feeling "myself." Well, I think that can all be attributed to poor sleep. I went back on the CPAP two nights ago and have had a complete turnaround. Plus my husband is happy as I'm not waking him up now, so there's that. My plan for now is to lose ten more pounds then go back for another sleep study to make sure the machine is tuned to my new body and working optimally. That's the update! An NSV Take-Backsie but I am still one happy woman.

    LapBand VS Sleeve??

I recently read another thread similar to this one - minus the feud - and I feel the same way about this one as I do the other one. There are statistics and numbers out there for every form of WLS on the market. We really have no idea how they actually reach those results and what the inclusive or exclusive parameters are. I think we each have to make our own decision about what surgery is right for us. My doctor let me choose. I chose the band and have not regretted my decision. I work hard at eating right but do allow myself a great treat once a week. I think that, ultimately, this is about the way it works with each type of surgery. I am happy for all of us who have found our own path and for some of us who have had to find a new path because our original path was not the solution. We are all here with the same common goal...to lose weight and keep it off. I think it would be awesome if we could put our differences aside and focus on that one goal. I, for one, am celebrating many NSVs right now since I have lost close to 65 pounds (does not matter what type of surgery I had)! I have more to go but I am diligently working towards my goal. I am excited for those who have lost weight on other surgeries as well! Look how far we have all come!

    when did you start solids?

Try just cutting them up and put in sugar free pudding... I was on 2 blood pressure meds to begin with - one was a sorta big I cut it into 3's and put in my pudding - the other one is tiny tab so had no problem taking that one whole. But great NSV - I no longer take any blood pressure meds

    NSV Moment..

This NSV goes deeper than you realize just yet. The fact that you so fully appreciated it, all the way to an emotional response, is golden. You'll have many more.
  17. Hi Dub! Your NSV is pretty darn awesome as well! Doesn't it make you feel lighter on your feet?!! It actually makes me feel a little more energized and makes me want to push more and do more! It's a tingle of motivation! A boost of energy! You keep being awesome and keep up the fantastic work!

    I'm 102 pounds down

I'm glad that I'm not the only one for whom picking up dog poop without pain is a NSV.
  19. @@Katcloudshepherd OMG poor hubby has been through the ringer you are his primary health care provider?? things must be very difficult for you too you've lost 121 lbs!!! might be a little easier to breath and move around helping hubby unexpected NSV maybe?? hubby needing oxygen 24/7, high blood pressure, many, many co-morbities many surgeries over the years it must be so hard for him and for you too having to be attentive to all his health needs (i'm sure you don't mind, but it must be draining/hard hopefully many of his ailments will improve or gradually disappear sooner than later he will "probably" have a difficult recovery the two of you will be standing hand in hand together standing very tall and strong being their for each other may the new year bring you both health and happiness good luck kathy

    Rant: Rude people!

Good for you that you wrote to the manager. He would never know that the server is costing him customers, either because YOU won't go back or because the negative word of mouth (and burning YELP report with do some damage. From the "Every cloud has a silver lining" department, we call this a NSV, Non-Scale-Victory. Actually, dropped drawers is a first NSV for many of us.
  21. A friend of mine got banded years ago....and she wanted me to follow suit. No way would I ever have WLS, there was no reason medically, I was healthy as a horse. I did feel down after I HAD to go shopping when I HAD to have something new. I did always feel like the biggest girl in the room, I did hate to have my picture taken....but I was healthy, I had a husband who loved me big or small. No way, hell would freeze over first. Well three years passed and my friend had lost 60 lbs and she had not died. Ok, positive things, but still. At 2 o'clock one morning, I got up to go to the bathroom and my tummy was in my lap.....right then and there, I made the decision to do it. Yes, I think clearly and come up with great ideas in the middle of the night, some times I'm in the bathroom, sometimes I just wake up and something comes to me. The next day, I told my husband I'd made this decision. I was firm about it, not wishy washy. He was not on board with fixing something that was not broken. I had no health issues, I wanted to have fun shopping and feel good about myself while I was younger (49 yrs) and while I was still healthy. Vanity and preventive maintenence, priorities rule!! That was Dec 2009, my DH wanted me to do research. I did, I read every single thing I could come across. I found a support group and started attending, and so did he. This guy became my biggest cheerleader!! He attends all my group meetings, even asking questions and taking notes when need be. I found a doctor in Texas, our 'home'. We were at that time living out of state, but I knew I wanted someone in Dallas or Houston to take care of me. I knew we would be moving back at some point. I first thought I'd get a band, but the more I read and heard, even though my friend did ok and did not die......it wasn't the best choice for me. I chose the sleeve procedure after days upon days of talking to different doctor's offices, and after obsessively reading everything I could find. I attended the seminar in Dallas in April and in June 2010, six months after that fateful 2 AM decision, I did it. I never, ever, ever regretted it. Not one minute of buyer's remorse. I've loved every single second since I woke up in recovery!!!! It is a wild ride and the most fun I've ever had!!! Clothes started falling off me, people started to ask if I'd lost some weight, which can be uncomfortable some times. A saleswoman called me LITTLE. LoL I have bones and my mom was wrong all those years, I am NOT big boned!!! I love my collarbone!!! It's my favorite NSV to this day. I'd wake up and all of a sudden have hip bones and my shoulders feel so boney now days!!! I finally got use to going to the Missy dept instead of the Women's. That was hard and it is STILL difficult to get a size that fits. I tend to want a size larger. It takes a long time for your head to catch up with your body!!! I'd read on this forum somewhere that we should get a disposable camera prior to surgery. Have someone take a picture the day before or day or surgery, then once a month on the date of your surgery. I did that, and then after my 1 year anniversary.....I got it developed. Wow, those pictures laying side by side from the previous year, I saw my transformation. I highly recommend doing this!!! I reached my doctor's goal in just under five months. My goal, five lbs less, a month later. My total loss is anywhere from 81 - 84 lbs, depending on the day. I lost 23 of those lbs prior to surgery. I have been maintaining for over 2 years now. I had a hard time stopping the weight loss....is this possible???!! Yes it is! I added calories and gained back to where I was comfortable. Would I do it again....in a New York minute! Forced portion control, that is what I needed. I still make choices, but I don't feel deprived at all. I'm not hungry, my new hunger is an empty feeling, which makes making wise choices much easier. I weigh myself every single morning, first thing. I've done this from the beginning. I log my food on line and I weigh and/or measure my food when I'm at home. This is part of my life, it's like a game. I love it, it also keeps me aware of what's going on with my body. Even if it isn't the wisest choice, I am aware of everything that goes into my mouth. No more mindless eating. I need 1150 - 1275 calories per day to maintain. I do not exercise, not really, so I knew that I'd have to make life changes I could live with, that would allow me to accomplish what I wanted. I get anywhere from 60 - 95 grams of Protein per day, almost without fail. It's all been pretty easy for me. I think I eat pretty much like a naturally thin person. This is my new life, it's fun. I feel good. It is possible to lose all you want, still enjoy food and maintain, but this is not a magic bullet. You can't have 85% of your stomach removed then eat chips, ice cream, drink alcohol, milkshakes and eat food from a drive through, and expect to be successful. We still have to make good decisions. 'Nuff said!!
  22. I checked my drivers license weight and I am now only 4 lbs heavier than what it says! I think this kind of qualifies as a "non-scale victory". How does everyone else stack up to their drivers license?

    Complications and NSV's

I was sleeved on 10/27/14 No complications to speak of. I was amazed at how well everything went. If I had to pick something it would be 5 days after surgery I tried a shake that did NOT agree with me. Not really a complication but it knocked me down the whole day and I remember how bad I felt. I will be 3 months post op on Monday and the NSV's I have had so far are great!! - I was in a very tight size 28 jean, I am now wearing size 20 skinny jeans and loving it - bought my first pair of tall black boots and have been wearing them with my skinnies and leggings - I still squeal out loud everytime I slide into a booth and there is between 3-5 inches of space - I now have choices in what footwear I will wear each day, instead of just my flip flops - the energy I have is amazing, no more sleeping in till the afternoon time, when I wake up I get up - I rode my bike for the first time since we moved it out here 12 years ago - I can get my wedding rings on normally now, no more having to put lotion on my hands to get them on - my 15 yr old daughter can get her arms all the way around me to hug me - I am looking forward to our vacation in March able to fit in the plane seat with no extender, and decide what rides I want to go on, not just what ones will I fit on These are just a few that I can think of right now. I cannot imagine what my list will look like as I lose more weight. I know that I am at a weight right now that a lot of people start their journey at, but my starting weight was 314.8 with my highest ever being 324. Good luck with your journey marbelvsg, follow your docs orders, get your Protein in and drink your liquids and you will do o great!!

Mermaid out of water! (My journey)

Figured I'd give myself a little bit of an update. SW:289 CW:254.8 GW:150 NSV: pair of shorts are falling off of me! As I go ahead moving on this journey, I do not know if I want my goal weight to be 150. I will see how my body goes and find a weight that I will be comfortable with. Going back to work is really hard, I've been having intense stomach pains that only happen there. It might be from the anxiety I feel about my job in general. Cooling Off!

Before surgery, I would sweat like a pig a the drop of a hat. People would often ask me if I was feeling OK. I was always fighting the thermostat wars with my wife. Now, at 7 weeks post op, the only time I sweat is when I go to the gym and even then, not nearly as heavy as pre-op. This is a NSV you can look forward to.
