    Puree soft food ideas

Lots of soups go easily in the blender. I used mostly canned vegetable and veg beef. Also made a homemade soup called "Souper easy Mexican Bean Soup" that was great, wife liked it very much without the blending. Recipe out on internet. I would simply blend up enough for 3-4 servings and package them in individual servings of say 4-5 oz each. Baby oatmeal or even blended regular oatmeal works real well I think a key is finding a truly "No Flavor and taste free" protein that you can add to anything. I tried several of the non-flavored versions of brand proteins but they always added some vanilla taste to anything I mixed them with. Didn't always go well as I did throw more than 1 item away. I finally found GenePro, a truly tasteless protein powder. You can mix 1 TBsp of the powder for 30 gm protein into plain water with no taste. While it seems much more expensive per ounce it really isn't per serving. I usually add 1 or 2 tsp (10gms protein each) to things I need or want more protein from with no change in taste. Bottom line, I can now add protein to anything I want to, even my decaf coffee or wasted calories like corn flakes or Rice Krispies.

    Favorite Flavorless Protein Powder?

Genepro just loss a law suit. They are comparing the products30 grams a serving to others 33.3 gram scoops. 1 tbsp has 14.3 grams in a tablespoon. Couldn't prove with science how 30 grams gets squeezed into 14.3 grams. So each scoop max would be 14.3 grams at the most. The products 14.3 grams may be as absorbing as well as 30 grams, I think not. That's why they got sued. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Diet During First 2 weeks

@California joe There is tons of information on the internet to help guide you. It seems that each doctor recommends slightly different to the next but its generally the same. Mine was liquids only for 2 weeks and then by 3 weeks I could add more things like milk, yogurt, blended vegetables in my soups, a teaspoon of peanut butter etc. I am still eating pureed only foods at 5 weeks post surgery. I cant tolerate whole meats yet only blended in soups and I can eat very little solids like pasta or rice, only about 4 spoon fulls. From what I gather you just test yourself as the weeks go on as to what your body likes and can tolerate. I can't tolerate eggs at all and they really hurt when I try to eat them. You will learn what you can eat by what your body will tell you within the guidelines of each week. Some people tend to stay in one phase for longer than others because that is what is working for them By week 2 you should be adding protein powders to your drinks. I use the unflavoured protein which mixes into any liquids - your tea, drink, soup, etc. The protein makes you feel more satisfied and gives you more energy. I posted the link to the protein powder I use. It does not change the flavor of your food or drink https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/genepro-medical-grade-protein-powder-2nd-generation
  4. So...it kinda doesn't matter whether you "want" to drink Water or Protein. Its not about what you want to do at this point. It's your medicine, you have to do it. If you were taking care of a small child who didn't want to take their medicine for days, I am pretty sure you would find a way to make it happen. Sounds like you did not experiment with unflavored protein yet. Try GENEPRO, you can get it on Amazon. A very small scoop has 30g of protein, you can mix it right into that apple juice you're drinking, you won't even taste it. I have tried a lot of Proteins, and the Genepro amazes me on how easily it mixes into tea, cold drinks, pudding, anything at all. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Need typical day menu

First thing ==I use GENEPRO in my Espresso every morning. It has 30grams of protein. But some on this site will say it isn't what they claim. I am terrible at eating breakfast or lunch. Dinner I have ham, cheese sandwich will 1 piece of whole grain bread. Or Chili Beans with cheese and onions. I also will have a Burrito or a XLNT Tamale, Or I have a chicken breast baked. By the time I get my protein first I don't have much room for veggies or fruit. I do have a Tuna Salad too. I was told by my Nutritionist and my Dr both said this to me: In time there are no forbidden foods, just eat in moderation. Not all programs say this. I am the type of person that if I didn't have a food I will become obsessed with it. I don't always make all great decisions but I try. Also, I totally feel like my exercise is my saving grace. I also have nuts or peanut butter crackers for a snack in the afternoon. I am not a very good example I'm sorry. I still have no appetite at all. Food does not control me now!! Thank goodness I still can't eat much beef or eggs. I pretty much eat whatever I want just smaller amounts. If you would like to do emails instead of on this site please let me know and I will give you my email address. BTW I drink 2 or 3 cups of black coffee, and I drink Lipton Green Tea (bottled) Snapple Diet Peach Tea also. Also, I failed to mention, sometimes I just have a piece of cheese with 5 crackers for dinner. If I'm not hunger I just do a little Protien.

    Want to go rouge!

Avoid Genepro, it is crap and was successfully sued for false claims of "medical grade protein" and the claimed 30 grams of protein. It is actually been proven in court that it is only 11 grams. https://www.pacermonitor.com/public/case/19892822/SI03,_Inc_v_Musclegen_Research,_Inc

    Post-Op Liquid Diet

I like Unjury chocolate splendor. The only other protein powder I use is Genepro. No taste. You can put it in anything hot or cold. No clumping.
  9. I do 8-10 ounces of milk with a serving of genepro each morning instead of a shake. It's not too sweet.

    Getting protein in post-op

I have checked GENEPRO out I also got kicked in the teeth from some on here. Also, when I said to concentrate on her fluids I am just stating what my DR and Nutritionist had told me. Yes, Protein Drinks count as fluids so I agree there try and try again. But...like I said it doesn't take long to become dehydrated which in turn is horrible. When your fluids up she may feel like she can add more of her protein. There are other nonflavored proteins out there. I think INJURY carries one. Whatever it takes. I'm sorry if I offended anyone on here. I will still use my GENEPRO. It works for me!! Have a good one!!

    Expected Weight Loss

@@mBig If you do try Genepro, I would just caution that you should still only count it as 15 grams of protein. It's not physically possibly to fit 30 grams of protein into 15 grams of powder. Their argument is that your body absorbs their protein better, so it's the "equivalent" of 30 grams of protein. Since they aren't regulated by the FDA and there have been no third party studies to prove or discredit their claims, you should take them with a grain of salt. If they are right and your body doe utilize and absorb more of their protein, then all the better. But if they are wrong and you are actually coming up 15 grams short every day, that could add up to a large deficiency over time.
  12. Thanks for your responses, everyone! Northcountyr1, I swear by GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. It's 30 grams of protein and only 57 calories. You can put it in anything. And yes, I was walking for the first four weeks. Since being cleared to do more, I also bike and have started a C25K program (run/walk). Have also incorporated some minor strength training. Genepro - too good to be true?

I use Genepro and love it, no taste and it mixes really well in cold or hot water. Always feel full after. The best thing to do is try different ones and decide what works best for you..
  15. This company was in litigation for its Protein products not delivering protein promised. google them and search GENEPRO on here. I agree it tastes great, but when I read up and then looked at their website (which has portion that like their bodybuilding web forum comments) has broken English, strange claims, and things like "natural steroids" I decided my personal choice was to stick to Isopure or unjury. And, the 30 grams protein from 15 grams of product was another too good to be true.

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

My Nutritionist said they were great!!! So of course, I ran down to Kmart and looked for them, They were the slimest gross tasting yucky thick something that I couldn't put in my mouth again!! My nurse told me about this unflavored Protein. It was called PROTOX or something like that (it was 4 years ago) I paid $19.95 for 1, Of course, I bought 2. They were so slimy I couldn't even get 1 TBS down. I am so glad I found unflavored GENEPRO!!! It has saved my life I have it in my Espresso every day. This is a great way to find out what is good or not!!
  17. GENEPRO IS LIFE! no taste, no texture...just a good amount of protein!
  18. So glad to read other people using genepro. I use it every day and I am almost 1 month post op and still on purée diet. I add it to my coffee, tea, cream of wheat and soups.. by far the best I have had since I can't stomach protein drinks anymore..

    No Flavor Protein Powder

I use Genepro, and the stuff us amazing. No taste, and only about a tablespoon worth equals about 30 grams of protein. You can buy it in amazon. .. it also mixes great with hot foods and liquids with no clumping.

    No Flavor Protein Powder

It's pretty simple. You cannot get 30 grams of something in only 15 grams. Genepro claim that the 10 grams you get is equivilent to thirty grams of protein because of the way it's absorbed. And it says that it is absorbed in the area of the intestines that gets cut out in RNY. I don't know about other surgeries because I don't have any experience with those. So even if the thirty grams of protein is true, you still can't absorb it properly if it does get absorbed in the upper part of the intestines like they say. By all means, use it if you want. But don't count it as thirty grams of protein.
  21. Took me 4 months to think of doing this, but hopefully it will help someone else. 1 sugar-free pudding cup whatever flavor you like +1 scoop of Genepro protein powder =31gms protein, 158cal and 11carbs I can't taste the protein powder at all and it mixes in very smoothly. Not a fan of other protein powders so I can't speak for those. Genepro serving size is 1tbsp compared to other protein powder servings that equal 2tbsp so not sure how well those will work.

    Protein !:-(

Does your Protein powder taste like it has a medicinal taste? I use unjury which I find very pleasant tasting. Another benefit is that it has 100% protein isolate, which is the protein most absorbable. Another brand that is all isolate and a good taste are Syntrax nectar. I haven't tasted GENEPRO but heard it is tasty also.

Can you have too much protein?

I use Genepro also and I checked with my NUT and she said it was fine. I like it because it's only a Tbsp for 30gm or protein and it really doesn't alter the taste of things.

    Protein Drink witch one

I use Premium Protein from Costco and I really like the chocolate and the vanilla. The strawberry cream is too sweet for me but my friend loves that flavor. I also got Genepro unflavored protein powder that I use in sf pudding and blended soups. I'm getting plenty of protein easily. I have been blending frozen fruit in my Premium Protein and it is delicious and my tummy doesn't mind.
