    Protein help!

I've tried a few and lots don't taste too good and the ones that do taste good have tons of sugar but I love the gnc ones choc strawberry vanilla I don't care for the Orange cream by the way they will let u sample the ready to drink ones I asked lol also isopure ready to drink is good expensive tho gnc has great products I shop there get the yearly membership it's 15$ and u get a discount when shopping one or two trips pays for it and they frequently have bogo 50% off sales it's worth it they recommend the big black container gosh I can't recall the brand and the gnc women's lean choc prices are better for the powder and u mix it yourself also they have the shaker bottles with the little metal whisk inside those are awesome u can buy those at bedbathandbeyond too also the gnc powder ones in the white containers have seasonal favors like now they have banana, pumpkin like that I'm still pre op but trying things to see what I can tolerate when I first tried the gnc lean shakes ready to drink I got them at rite aid a local drug store that sells gnc products they had single bottles so I got a couple to try before buying large quantitys they were very friendly and helpful at gnc seemed very knowledgable about what they sell hope this helps also I've read many positive posts here re genepro protein powder check it out at musclegen.com it's a powder u can put in any liquid food or soup hot or cold and doesn't clump smell or taste bad tho I hear it stinks in the pkg lol but not in the food or drink and its a high protein amount and I think only one scoop is needed I plan to try it ok anyway good luck msg me anytime

    Unflavored protein powder

I was asking about Genepro on here. Is there any taste? Does it mix well? I have a few varieties of syntrax powders and they just don't seem to get smooth, no matter what temp I use. Right now I am using premier protein ready to drink shakes. I don't do so well with protein and need/want something that completely disappears(or as much as possible). Thanks!

    Protein

There is a whole lot of people that have different ideas as does the DR.'s on the amount of Protein that we absorb at one time. But...I was told as I have heard others say the same thing, that our bodies can only use 30grams at a time. Now as for the protein I use, First let me tell you I'm 3 years out and I shudder at the thoughts of how much money I have wasted on protein products. It is a good thing my nephew took everything that I didn't care for. I finally found a nonflavored and it is nonflavored protein and it is GENEPRO. I use it in my coffee and I do love my coffee. So it is a WIN WIN for me. Now if you want a ready made protein I like ATKINS. They have 15grams of protein in them. I liked MYOPLEX rich dark Protein drinks and I also liked Muscle Milk banana flavored Protein Powder with gram cracker flavored muscle milk, I added 1/2 a frozen banana and lactose-free milk. It was real good tasted like a banana pudding.

Truly don't know what to do

No no...the protein powder I just got "Genepro" is 30g per 1 Tbls. So that's perfect. But how much soup are you adding that to? I just made lemon pudding with 2 Tbls of protein (60 g). I'm eating a little now, but put the rest in popscicle molds for Jello Protein Pudding Pops!

Truly don't know what to do

If you are using the GENEPRO - they have a small scoop in the bag. One scoop is 30 grams of protein. I would start with that. I think if some things have more protein, they are harder to get down. I had to force myself to drink my Protein shakes. It's not a matter of "this tastes great", right now it's a matter of - I've got to get this down.

    Protein recommendations!

I couldn't tolerate any unflavored, until genepro. I have added to oatmeal, coffee, crystal light... It's worth trying!

    first post-- protein question

I second Atkins Lift. They're delicious. I couldn't stomach Premier Protein or GENEPRO (it's not completely flavorless, you can still taste something being added). ---------- Surgery date- 11/8/16 HW- 249 SW- 235 CW-198
  8. I was done on 12/21 and I have been setting a timer for 10-15 and I drink 1/2-1 oz at a time room temp is best, 4oz homemade chicken broth with GENEPRO Protein powder unflavored is working (I keep it on a cup warmer because it takes me 40-50 min to drink! Same pain but as my stomach swelling is going down it is getting better! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Eating habits

I power lift so I have found myself eating 8 small meals a day. It feels like I am constantly eating. I have also added Genepro to my tea. I am trying to increase my protein intake. I need to get these muscles up.

    Travel

I travel slot, but agree with Buffelhead by then most of your Protein will be from real food. I'm sure the UK will be easy to find c supplements. They probably even have a GNC. Unlike the US where ready to drink supplements and protein bars are founds in grocery stores, many of the countries I visit only carry Protein powder and bars and few options for RTD shakes in pharmacies. I'm preparing for three trips right now and just finished preparing my GENEPRO for each. I love it in my morning coffee and it's tasteless but starts me off with 30 grams. I'm 2 1/2 months out. I have yet to eat a bar but will bring them just in case. There are things you can buy here and take. Also beef or turkey Jerky. Don't worry, you'll be fine. It will be the long flight that's a challenge. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  17. Lots of Soups go easily in the blender. I used mostly canned vegetable and veg beef. Also made a homemade Soup called "Souper easy Mexican Bean Soup" that was great, wife liked it very much without the blending. Recipe out on internet. I would simply blend up enough for 3-4 servings and package them in individual servings of say 4-5 oz each. Baby oatmeal or even blended regular oatmeal works real well I think a key is finding a truly "No Flavor and taste free" Protein that you can add to anything. I tried several of the non-flavored versions of brand Proteins but they always added some vanilla taste to anything I mixed them with. Didn't always go well as I did throw more than 1 item away. I finally found GENEPRO, a truly tasteless Protein Powder. You can mix 1 TBsp of the powder for 30 gm protein into plain Water with no taste. While it seems much more expensive per ounce it really isn't per serving. I usually add 1 or 2 tsp (10gms protein each) to things I need or want more protein from with no change in taste. Bottom line, I can now add protein to anything I want to, even my decaf coffee.
  18. ditto on Fairlife and GenePro. I also found that premier hasn't set as well with me post surgery, but Fairlife has been easy to get down and Genepro is easy to mix into anything (just keep the temp below 140) to bring the protein up. I also like the BariatricPal cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups. I doctor them up with no salt seasoning and mushroom salt (you can find it at any Asian market and it's amazing) then strain to make sure there are no bits of herb before drinking.

    Liver Shrink diet

I'm 3 weeks post op now, in the puréed stage of my diet. I will kind of be honest with regards to boredom of foods. You need to prepare yourself to be bored with food after the first few weeks of surgery. You will only be able to eat a few things, and you are lucky if those are things you enjoy eating. During this time, try finding liquids you enjoy and plan on eating those for days at a time. During the first 2 weeks there aren't many options. I found eating the broth from a Vietnamese restaurant was way better than broth from a box or can. I had planned on Jello after surgery because I enjoy it, but even the sugar free caused me to have dumping. The Protein shakes were too thick and didn't settle well on my stomach so I chose GENEPRO as a protein replacement because it's unflavored and can be mixed in anything. Try to prepare for boredom because I wasn't and it hit me hard. I'm doing as little carbs as possible (keto diet) so I cut all carbs from my diet during my liver shrink diet. I had tons of grilled chicken and veggies, spinach and chicken salads (chick filet has amazing salads), lean beef kabobs, and tuna salad. I also tried many egg dishes because that's my go to protein with avocado for breakfasts. If I craved carbs I would eat protein. I don't know why but it helped. Also jello with whip cream was amazing before surgery when I could still eat it. I've not craved carbs or Coke one time since surgery and I think it's because I already went through those struggles during pre-op. Good luck and I hope that helps some. Off track needing meatless protein ideas

I also like the genepro medical grade protein. Its 30g per tbs, unflavored and adds very little "weird" taste to foods.

    Protein frustration

I drink the Premier Protein chocolate shakes over ice and it tastes like a yoohoo to me. People also in my support group use Genepro and put it in various foods and drinks, and they say it's tasteless and odorless!

I finally got my activity tracker!

@@LittleBill, let's just take @@OzRoo up on her offer and soak up some sun for a change. I will bring the rum flavoured GENEPRO and some bread cheese! Nilla

I finally got my activity tracker!

Oh I so need some heat after the freezing cold weather we have had. The snow is covering everything and the streets are so slippery. My friend flew in from FL today and I ordered a bunch of stuff for him to bring me (and yes, he volonteered). I got a message saying it's all soaked in the rum he brought for another friend... oh well, I guess GENEPRO could taste worse?!? Nilla

I think I figured it out

I couldn’t tolerate shakes after surgery and still can’t. I went to gnc and bought genepro. I mix it in with my water and some crystal light flavoring and that’s what I use instead of shakes.
