Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
Bellasoo replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope it’s not tmi, if so, I’m sorry. My surgeon only prescribed me the lovenox because I have a birth control implant so the hormones make me more prone to clotting I had a hysterectomy and have to take estrogen vaginally (sorry, TMI!). I wonder if I will have to do the same? -

Welcome new May sleevers, and I'm glad to read you are all recovering well. Don't be worried if you are hungry in the early stages because you really aren't getting many calories in yet, and fluids don't feel filling. I mostly stuck between 600 and 800 calories and am now trying to push it up to about 900. I still need to see a dietitian here, but hope to move towards a sensible 1000-1200 calories a day as soon as I'm able to eat more solids, as I want to incorporate more healthy veggie and wholegrain complex carbs in my long term diet. Doing well over here, though I think I might have lost a few kilos in the bathroom today (TMI but hadn't gone for a few days while I was stuck taking a lot of codeine for headaches then a full migraine yesterday, then got an upset tummy tonight which I think was some follow through from the crappy cold virus that had me running a temp and headachy the past 5 days - fingers crossed that means it's all been flushed away! hehe). I do need to get busy doing more exercise as soon as I have kicked this virus, but it's winter over here in Oz so just walking outdoors is out. I think I'll have to commit to joining a gym at least for the winter. I tried some of the ALDI very low carb bread the other day but didn't really like it. Still trying a few other types of protein bars and supplements and I'm keeping up my vitamins. I even got to enjoy a decent sized salad today had been missing those. Best wishes to all!

I was sleeved on May 23. It was super painful for the first four days. I start puréed food tomorrow. Looking forward to that. My emotions have been all over the place. Something I wasn’t expecting. I have been on Zoloft and it is now causing extreme diarrhea (TMI). I think just having liquids has not helped! Just trying to get myself straightened out. Thanks for reading!

Day 6 and finally went #2 & now have diarrhea
deardraya posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello and so sorry if this is TMI. I haven’t gone to the bathroom since two days before my surgery. Today, I woke up, took milk of magnesia, went “normal” once and now have massive diarrhea. Should I be concerned? I’m already having a hard time with taking in my protein and water and now diarrhea? Any advice would be fabulous and again, sorry for the TMI! 😞 -
Ducolax Question
Orchids&Dragons replied to mylighthouse's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Sorry to be gross, but . . . If you're sitting on a rock, the bm has already made it to your rectum and it's just too hard/large to pass. Dulcolax isn't going to change that. It may just make you even more uncomfortable by building up pressure behind the blockage. You have 2 options as were explained to me: A Fleet glycerine (not water) enema. Apparently you will need someone to help you with this. And it can be extremely messy. Pretty much the only other thing you can do is put on a glove, lubricate well, and try to reach in and break up the stool. All the stool softeners/laxatives in the world aren't going to shrink the size of the bm now. Apologies if this was TMI but reality bites sometimes. -
I can offer no advice on the hemeroids, so far I’ve been lucky to dodge that...but keeping with the TMI heading, is anyone else experience really smelly gas? I suspect the protein shakes/soups are the culprit as pre surgery they kept me super regular lols. Or is it my smaller stomach? I asked at the hospital and they said it was due to the surgery for the first few days, just hopeful it will get better soon.

Yogurt causing gas...good or bad?
Pink nova posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys, Quick question for you. I had my surgery on Monday and tried yogurt for the first time today. I usually just do the cottage cheese but decided to try something different. Right away, my stomach started gurgling and making noise and then came the expelling of gas (sorry TMI - I know...so attractive lol) should I try it again or not? is it good that it’s helping me expel gas or is it giving me more gas? -
I had the band in 2005. It was good in the first couple of months, but after my gallbladder decided to go bad, my banded life was never the same. I suffered with chronic reflux and could not tolerate a fill. The reflux was directly related to laying flat, so I slept sitting up for almost 5 years. When I had my band out, my bariatric surgeon offered to convert me to the sleeve at that time. But I didn't know enough about it and wasn't comfortable permanently changing my anatomy. 8 years later, after I gained all of my weight back, I started seriously looking into being sleeved. Was finally sleeved on 4/10/18. Here's the differences I've experienced: Because I couldn't tolerate any fills in my band, I had very little food restriction. I had limitations in the AMOUNT of food I could consume, but I had no food intolerance with the band. The only thing that kept me on track was faithfully following the banded rules. I'm now almost 6 weeks out from being sleeved. I have more restriction than I ever did with the band. My stomach gurgled a lot at the beginning, but not so much now. I have very little appetite. In terms of food intolerance, I have noticed that I don't do well with bread. That's bread that's gone through the rising process. I don't vomit or anything, it just doesn't feel good or comfortable whenever I eat bread (even if it's toasted). I'm good with tortillas and crackers, but not bread. I've had pasta and rice with no issue, although I must admit that I can't eat very much of it and I certainly wouldn't make a meal of it. At most I can eat a half cup. If I try even 1 more bite after I've hit my limit, I suffer for at least a half hour. It feels like I have to burp but nothing comes out other than slimy bubbles. (sorry if that's TMI, but it's the truth). Also, with most of my meals I am forced to eat very slowly. If I eat too quickly I get an uncomfortable feeling, not quite pain, but my sleeve reminds me very fast that I am eating too quickly. EX: it takes me about 20 minutes to eat a single serving of Greek yogurt. Hope this helps.

The shoulder pain is most likely from gas pain. Are you walking because that helps with the gas pains. I'm 7 week post op and I struggled with getting all my protein in. If I couldn't get my protein in I drink more water, that helped with the constipation...tmi..but hey...it gets real LOL.! I never tried tomato soup during my first weeks. It was jello, broth, SF popsicles, and protein....repeat and repeat. What are some of the other things you're eating?

I decided to do a min sleeve reset because my NUT wanted me to lower my kcals (im almost 7 months post op and was at 1200 kcals ) and summer means summer body lol Here is what happened Did not do the full version because i never went off plan instead i backtracked and enjoyed: 1/2 cup of Cottage cheese with basil and 1 strawberry for breakfast Iced coffee and 5.5oz of caramel premier shake for lunch 1 oz of cashews with 8 dark chocolate drops for snack 4-5oz of Poached salmon for dinner 64-80oz of liquids I did the same menu for about a week slowly adding things back in like salad fruit rye crackers keeping my macros and kcals on point This week i will have cottage cheese for breakfast iced coffee for snack salmon for lunch and chicken salad for dinner So meal prep is important What i noticed is i can detect my full sensation quicker, bowel movements daily(sometimes 2x tmi sorry) weightloss seems to have picked up again, the reset didnt need to be a huge production -seems like you can just decide to start one if you feel like, if i skip nuts im around 700 kcal with nuts 1000 (where my NUT wants my upperlimit at for now.) Just putting this info out for anyone curious.

TMI topic.. pre-op protein diet and extreme diarrhea!
Laughing Bird posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So.. super TMI but, I’m at a loss here. Im on day 4 of my pre-op diet. I have 10 days to go. I get 3 protein shakes a day plus as much clear sugar free liquid and broth as I can stand. I did this diet before for 11 days before I had to reschedule my original surgery date. My problem here is that I have the worst diarrhea I have ever had in my entire life during this diet. I suspect the whey in the shakes and want to know if anyone else had/has this issue? My nutritionist had me switch shakes and same results. Any ideas? -
Bathroom problems since December sleeve
MissB_fit_2018 replied to Akunasleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Like everyone else suggested definitely see a dr. I’m pre sleeve but I can tell you that I had both my kids by c section and if any other moms out there have done it this way they will back me up on this... pooping after a c section is the worst. Your stools are like rocks after all the narcotics your pumped full of. And this may be tmi but desperate times call for desperate measures but the only thing that worked for me and wasn’t extremely painful was to pre lube the area and then use a suppository. I also did start taking stool softeners asap and after the initial blockage was cleared it was a lot better. Definitely speak to a dr first but if they point you to stool softners and you need to get things going this would be the route to take. -
So yesterday wasn’t a great for me as far as following my diet. I weighed myself yesterday morning at 309.2 and this morning, the same scale, is reading 315-317!!!!!!!! I am not proud but yesterday I did eat more often than I should have. I had egg salad(without bread))for a snack and I usually do not snack. I also had part of a sno cone which did have sugar. I’m just unsure how there was such a dramatic increase in weight. TMI, But I will also add I have used the bathroom. I know you shouldn’t weigh everyday but I have never “gained” so much in one day even before surgery. I could go to a buffet and still not gain so much! Hw-378 Sw- 363 (2/27/18) CW-310.6

Anybody know when your body adjusts to taking Saxenda? I took it about 5 months ago and didn't have any problems. I started taking it again about 4 days ago and it causing me bad cramping and loose stools (TMI)

I am honestly not really counting water/liquid intake. As long as I'm peeing I take it that I'm getting enough fluids. The protein I am tracking and so far today I've had about 30 grams of my 60-80 goal. I am burping as well and the gurgling was non stop until today. There are time when I sip and I feel this tightness in my tummy as the fluid goes down. Its not all the time but I stop for about 15 to 20 minutes until I try sipping again. This may be TMI but I have gone #2 maybe like 4 times already and its been very watery. My incisions are starting to itch today as well (No drainage). I also have been cooking for my daughter and husband and it made me a little sad that I couldn't eat lol I have to keep reminding myself that this liquids stage is only temporary.

I had my surgery on Tuesday May 15th. Despite dealing with the extra pain that came along with correcting an unknown hiatal hernia, recovery has been ok except for the one nagging incision. It’s seriously burns (it’s not infected) or aches all day long unless I keep an ice pack on it. Does any one have any suggestions on how alleviate this? Also I don’t ever have the urge to pee anymore (sorry TMI) I just go because my brain thinks it’s been too long. Someone tell me I’m not going insane.

I am really struggling too! I am on day two and I have such a fierce headache which I am assuming is from carb withdrawls, I have diarrhea (TMI, oops!) and flippin hangry! I did hear it gets easier as the days go on and eventually your body will adapt. But its so hard right now. I would love to hear from people who have gone through the pre-op liquid what their experience was like or when it got easier for them.

Diet - Are you having a hard time getting all of your liquids, protein, etc.?
J@Alabama replied to J@Alabama's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Bowel movements are few and far between for me. (which is totally different than before surgery) I had to break down and take Milk of Magnesia Sunday. I did not have any progress so I took some more Monday. I thought I was going to die when I did go. Sorry for the TMI!! So I am on Benefiber, Colace, Miralax and Milk of Magnesia. -
Kind of weird question but didn't want to sound like an idiot during my final consultation.

So I had VSG in November of 2014. On June 1st, I'm having it revised to RNY. Prior to surgery I will start my 2 week liquid diet. My question is....I don't have to do a bowel prep or anything. So if they are working on my intestines, what happens if I'm not cleared out? Since having VSG, I have had issues with constipation and I am a little worried about that. Sorry for the TMI. I appreciate any help! -
Sleeved36 Thank you and you do the same. Yesterday I was a old lady walking around holding my stomach and bent over. I rold my bf I needed a walker, lol. This morning is much better Im moving a little faster. Yes today think positive thoughts and walk and pass gas as much as possible it helps, lol. I never felt so good to just pass gas to relieve my back pain. Sorry TMI but its true. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Okay so I apologize in advance for the TMI.... I am on liquid diet day 4 and have been struggling with running to the bathroom after every drink (even water) and veggie. I’m allowed to have 4 protein shakes and 2 cups of veggies (only broccoli, green pepper, lettuce, cucumbers, or celery). Every time I consume something it feels like glass inside my intestines and I have to run to the toilet. It’s literally like liquid in, liquid out. Does this happen to anyone else? They warned me that I might experience constipation because of the lack of fibre but this is the exact opposite. i have a road trip to go on this weekend and I’m scared that I will have to pull over every 15 min! sorry for the details lol

Ok. So I’ve been on my Optifast diet for 10 days. At least 3 shakes a day and then either a bar or a soup. Or just 5 shakes. Any combination of the 5 items as long as I do at least 3 shakes a day. I’m also adding protein powder to these items so I get an extra 21g protein. And I’m averaging 90+ oz of water a day. So that’s the background. Now, I have had my period for 4 days. It is super heavy and I’m so crampy! This is the worst period I’ve had since my early 20’s! And it shows no signs of stopping! I do have PCOS (I was diagnosed at 17). I also have the Nexplanon implant. That’s what’s so crazy! I had it put in January 2017 and after about 3-4 months, I stopped having a period altogether. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea as to what’s going on here? I’m going to be super embarrassed if I’m still dealing with this in 3 days when its surgery day! [emoji37] HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10!
