800-1,000 Calories
Julie norton replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yogurt can help. Refried beans/cheese if tolerated and ok by doc. Tofu (I like baked and flavored in the package). Perhaps sample other protein drinks and bars? Good luck. Keep trying!! -
800-1,000 Calories
kzoojason76 replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Greek Yogurt. My NUT also told me to start adding some 100% fruit juice in to get more calories. So I drink a little more OJ -

Can't get my protein in
Macy6 replied to time4me2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are only 10days out don't be so hard on your self. I didn't even attempt protein until day 11-12, I completely stuck to water. I started adding in once I was released to soft/fork mush and I have had absolutely no issues since. Anyway I really like greek yogurt with half a scoop of unflavored protein powder. Bumps it up to over 20g of protein. I am 4 weeks out now and easily get in 80-90g of protein a day. -
Almost nothing! LOL! I eat 1 or 2 times a day. So far I've had yogurt, canned chicken with a little low fat mayo and pepper, refried beans with cheddar cheese and taco sauce, scrambled egg, a pureed egg with mustard...stuff like that...I've tried to get creative and make it interesting where I can. Right now I'm craving pizza soooo, I'm going to use low carb pizza sauce, a little browned and finely chopped hamburger meat with some skim mozzarella cheese...sort of a mock pizza...now prior to surgery it was protein shakes 2 to 3 times a day and then a sensible meal...

My surgery is on October 18th. I will be starting my pre surgery liver shrink diet on the 11th. Any suggestions about how to make smoothies or anything I can eat without milk, yogurt or eggs ?
-
Ok. I have a the 24 oz cup that I purchased from Starbucks. This morning I fixed me a smoothie(1 containergreek nonfat individual size,4 strawberries,1 scoop protein whey, ice and 2 oz leftover naked protein smoothie). It filled the cup almost to top. I started sipping at 650 and finished it at 950. Did I drink it to fast? I was able to get in 30 grams of protein from the yogurts and whey. I'm not hungry at all. I want to start drinking water but don't know if I should wait an hour before drinking anything else.

Lists of foods and stuff to buy
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your NUT/surgeon should provide you a list of foods for each phase. Based on memory so this list might not be complete. What I used for my first phase, based in my surgeon's program: ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups Premiere Protein RTD sugar free Popsicles Bone broth Sonic crushed ice Crystal Light For my second phase all of the above, plus: GNC Lean shake 25 V8 Cottage cheese Light and Fit Greek Yogurt -
I get up at 4:45 am and I usually leave for work around 5:45 and once there I eat some yogurt mixed with cottage cheese and then 40 minutes later I begin drinking Water. Around 9:30am I have a Protein shake and then again drink more water or I may have some V-8 juice. I have lunch at 11:30am and then around 2:30 or 3 I have my Protein Shake and then at 5 or 5:30 I eat supper. I drink in between as much as I can. I have had no hunger since my surgery. I have an occasional rumble of my stomach not my pouch. But it is normally time to eat when that happens. It seems so easy now, compared to when I wanted to stuff myself with chips late at night while watching tv or something like that.

Thursday!! Today is Sunday. OMG! It has been a long, hard road with many hoops to jump through, and now, "suddenly", it's here! I am nearly there. I am nearly sleeved. I'm nearly having a difficult time with pain from a drain, and not able to drink a bottle of Water at one sitting. I'm nearly barely able to eat a tablespoon of greek yogurt at a sitting. My life is nearly changed for the better. One day soon I will be searching my closets for smaller clothes which I saved back from when I was smaller. I'm so excited to begin this journey to health and happiness, I am nearly able to polish my own toenails, to lace up my shoes. Nearly able to run up a flight of stairs and not be winded and keep up with my grand kids. It's Sunday...I'm nearly there!

Ever Eat When You're Not Hungry, To Reach Protein Goal?
daisychains7 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just curious if I'm the only one who does this? I eat 3 mostly Protein meals a day (3/4cup-1cup), plus 1 or 2 glasses of skim milk a day (my doctor's recommendation). Lately I STILL have to have 1 high protein snack a couple hours after dinner just to reach my 70g protein goal. i know as bandsters we are supposed to be very aware of our hunger and not eat just for the sake of it, but I need to have a snack in the evening to get enough protein in (protein shakes make me ill so I go for greek yogurt), and then I feel guilty. Am I crazy? lol -
How many carbs per serving? Is a serving size a table spoon? I mix a dry pack of hidden valley ranch mix with greek yogurt... taste great.

[quote=Lisa ]Carbsmart is made by Kroger (Ralph's). My FAVORITE way to eat greek yogurt is to whip up 2 tbs of Trader Joe's Organic whipped cream cheese with 8 oz of 0% greek yogurt (my personal favorite is Trader Joe's b/c the Protein content is so high). I add a few drops of vanilla extract as well and I sweeten with Splenda. Tastes like cheesecake!!!! I add blueberries or strawberries and then I sprinkle with 1/2 of a crushed graham cracker. It's AMAZING!!! i can never eat it all so I usually split into 2 servings. What is the protein content in trader joes yogurt? I don't normally shop there, but I easily could.

I like Yoplait's 100 calorie greek yogurt. High protein, good flavor and the lowest sugars I've seen.
-
Yoplait's yogurt is not Greek yogurt. If you read the ingredients, they add corn starch and other ingredients to thicken it. Real Greek yogurt has most of the whey drained out-- thats what make it thick. Check your labels when you shop. Greek yogurt should pretty much just read milk and live and active yogurt cultures. Of course fruit too if it's added. I make yogurt at home. It's super easy and then I know what's in it!!!

Hey October sleevers, what are you eating?!
Iowa_summergirl replied to stac3031's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved 10/14...I have stopped "tracking" everything I eat and am relying on my body to tell me what is right. Most of the time it is about 3-4 ounces at a time, sticking to only three meals daily with very very limited snacking (like usually 1-2 times a week...handful of crackers or a piece of fruit). I feel great diet wise and continue to lose steadily. My family is wondering if I am loosing too fast?? Typical day: glass of milk to start, Breakfast is usually either a 1/4 piece of toast or a couple crackers with a homemade dip (lots of Protein in it--usually yogurt based). Lunch: cold cuts with some cheese, piece of fruit. Supper: whatever my family is eating but in a much smaller portion. Tonight we had spaghetti. I don't do any juices (unless I have an occasional cocktail). Also haven't done much for Protein shakes...trying to get most of it through diet. My favorite food is still homemade dips in the morning! HW: 256 SW: 224 CW: 182 -
How soon can you eat after a fill?
Jachut replied to littlefroggy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've never had any instructions to do liquids or mushies after a fill, personally, I've had a fill and then gone out for lunch an hour later, of course, I ate lightly and carefully, but there's really no risk to your band as such, its more to let everything settle and calm down in case you Pb. I virtually never PB and am quite confident about how I "feel" after the first mouthful or two, so although I'd choose an easy food, I dont actually do liquids etc. I certainly wouldnt go all day without eating. Why on earth would you just not have some yogurt or milk, or thicker soup? -
Looking for April peeps for RNY (Bypass)
Bino replied to claddagh66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that's a great idea! You can have a closed group so no one outside the group can see what you are posting. I just had my second post-op visit with the doc yesterday. Everything is looking good. I'm a week and a half out from surgery and get to start mushies, i.e. mashed potatoes, hummus, Greek yogurt, etc. I feel really good. From the two-week liver shrink diet to now, I've lost 21 lbs. -
Soft food stage problem
OutsideMatchInside replied to triplethreat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you start on soft foods. Eat one thing at time. Don't mix things. If you eat just chicken, you would know if your issue is chicken. If you eat just yogurt you would know it is yogurt. -
What else can we have besides broth
piperbaby replied to ddillon01's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This far out you should be eating pretty close to a regular diet. I would start with yogurt, oatmeal, mashed potatos, jello and other smushy stuff if you havent transitioned to it yet. -
How much can you eat 4+ years post-op?
catwoman7 replied to middlet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY but it's probably similar. I don't go by ounces anymore - I just know that it takes about 1600 calories to maintain my current body weight, so I try to stay around there (or under if I want to lose a few pounds). And the above person is right - the number of oz depends on the food. I can easily eat 8 oz of yogurt. But a piece of meat? No way. Maybe 2 or 3 oz. btw - no one would be able to tell now that I've had weight loss surgery. They'd just assume I'm a "light eater", just like lots of my female friends are who've never had a weight problem. I'll go to a restaurant and order a salad or an appetizer. Or I'll get an entree and eat half of it (and box up the rest to take home). -
i did it as well =. I dont like yogurt but found the great value french vanilla plain fat free was really good. the nurses at int are awesome, the pain meds are not as strong. I want you to know what to expect so im laying it all out, My sleeve sister agreed, the meds just barely took the edge off, You will love the hotel and staff, Overall i am so glad i did this, Today is day 3 post op. ive thought about food but it doesnt really bother me, Im good with my juice and broth, The broth at the hotel is AWESOME!

I have been doing really good with yogurt, and cottage cheese. I tried some softly scrambled eggs and that was good. I just had to eat really slow. I also made some cream of wheat (kinda soupy) and that was good too. I found that every time I want to add something new to my diet I just have to eat it really slow so that I can feel if my tummy is going to like it or not. I can normally tell in a bite or two how I am going to take it. Good luck everyone Keep up those liquids

That's also fairly close to my diet at the moment, although my surgeon wants me to keep it as low as possible for as long as possible .. currently < 600cal/day, typically. Generally getting in 60g Protein -- all solid (shakes are liquid calories in addition to any nutrition, and thus won't keep you full as long as solids will). I also have a 4oz yogurt in the morning, since I've had some rough mornings before. There are a couple of low-calorie/low-carb ones on the market -- take your pick. The best lunch I've had so far, in terms of quantity, nutrition, and convenience, has got to be the Bumblebee Tuna Sensations line. They're shelf-stable cans of tuna with an easy-to-peel cover. 5oz of fish, about 180cal, and lots of protein (~30g, I think?). No mayo, either, but juicy (I've not had problems with it being too dry). You could fit one in a pocket, if you wanted. Salmon steaks are also good choices, and there are shelf-stable packets of those as well. I tend to focus a bit on shelf-stable, since that makes it easy to keep a supply of them on-hand home or at work. "K2O" brand protein Water can help get both water and protein in, at only 50cal. You can get the individual serving size packets to mix at work. Fuze Slenderize beverage -- 20cal per 16oz bottle of flavored water, lots of vit C.
