  1. Wow! Love the sound of your day! So about how much food by volume are you eating per meal? And will you please share your protein-bitchin recipe for those meatballs please? They sound fabotastic and I want to make some!! I also love the sound of your kale smoothie. I am excited to start doing mine again. I use spinach, and frozen blueberries with a scoop of Isopure Bananas and Cream PP--but any kind will do! I also love fiber one! I add slivered almonds to a mixture of 2% cottage cheese/Grk yogurt and frozen blueberries. So satisfying and keeps me full for hours!! Thanks for playing! I'm gonna check out Pinterest High Protein Meals for sure!!

Yogurts and soups will NOT help you doll. They are slider foods and won't fill you up! They pass through your new anatomy very quickly. The denser and more solid the protein or veg. The more texture they have, the more filling it is and the more it stays with you. If you're hungry, eat more protein - dense protein. Try a hb egg and a cheese stick. Almost impossible to be hungry after that meal/snack at 1 month. You probably won't be able to finish it. If a hard boiled egg doesn't sound good to you? Then it's head hunger, rather than true hunger. Also, when hungry, try water loading. Sip your water quickly until it fills your tummy up. Then wait a minute or two until you can hear it draining, and then continue to take a sip-wait, sip-wait, sip-wait. Then reassess your hunger in 20 minutes. Works almost ALL the time for me! Plus it helps you get your fluids in. So many of us mistake thirst for hunger! Hope that helps!!

  4. I was sleeved 3/29. I am down 11 lbs. I am eating about 600 max calories a day getting in about 40 grams of protein.Struggling with enough water because by the time I drink protein shake and then wait to drink water and I am already back at work I run out of time. I am exercising at least 30 minutes everyday by walking. My stomach was dead glad but now seems bloated. My doc recommends colace but has not worked for me. Any other suggestions? I am on full liquid with a a little soft like yogurt, oatmeal cottage cheese

I’m on week 3. I had a really good veal meatball with cheese and sauce at lunch with friends yesterday (it was an appetizer and only actually ate 1/3 of it). I made a casserole my mom makes with thin slices of potato, zucchini, cheese, sliced meatballs, a sprinkle of bread crumbs, and pizza sauce. It was great! (I froze 10, 1/2 cup servings for later) I had some left over Easter ham ( that I didn’t get on Easter because I was still on purée ). Cut small and chewed a lot. Just had tuna with a little bit of miracle whip. I’m having 1/2 cup or less for meals and really chew and wait between bites. It takes me about 30-45min. to eat. No issues so far. Getting at least 75oz. + each day but not always making 100oz. Goal. My plan calls for all food and no shakes at 3 weeks but I have had 1 each day to make sure I get protein till I figure out more meals where 1/2 cup will give me enough protein. Actually today with 3 meals I am over 80 protein. Tomorrow I am making a ground chicken pizza crust (mix ground chicken with cheese and Italian spices, roll thin, bake then add toppings and bake another 10 min.) pizza that I tried pre surgery and my husband likes it too. I put veggies, cheese, and sauce on top. I also want to make the egg casserole muffins with a variety of cheese, meat, veggie fillings and freeze for a quick snack. Greek yogurt has been a good protein source, plus I add some protein powder to it without changing flavor.

  7. I had my RNY surgery Aug 4, 2017 so this seemed like a good time for a check in. I've lost just about 150 lbs since the whole journey started--110 since the surgery. Went from size 30-32 to 16. I've had some really noticeable "firsts" in the last couple of months: flying without having to use a seat extender, having someone who didn't know me before tell me that I was so much smaller than they (in my mind we were the same size), being able to shop in a "regular" store and have choices. My mobility and energy is so much better, though I'm still building strength from a foot and ankle condition, at least I'm able to make progress on them. Eating can still be a puzzle. I'm able to try just about anything and am much better at reading the signs that my body is giving me that I should stop eating. There still are times when I eat and then feel incredibly sick, but fewer than before. I never liked or ate yogurt before the surgery and now I have greek yogurt at least once a day. Though I'm less cautious about trying new things, there are some things I don't want to know if I can tolerate, like the sweets I have always had trouble eating in moderation. I'm ok with skipping them right now because I know it's a slippery slope and I want to keep losing. My sister reminded me that a few days after surgery, when I was just miserable, I said I wished that I could fast forward to the six month mark, and I was right, things really did turn a major corner then. I'm very proud of how far I've come.
  8. So I can't find a forum for spouses. So I was hoping some of you can give me some tips. My husband's surgery is Monday. We live 4 hours from the hospital and he will have to stay 8-10 days in a hotel. I have to go back for 4 days because my job. After that I will be out of work until May/June (seasonal jobs). I don't want to be the a-hole who dangles food in front of him, however eating out until he is ready is unrealistic for me. How do I strike a balance? During this pre-op stage I've been good about eating at work (a restaurant) and then having yogurt or soup at home. When work stops next week, all my meals will be at home (except when we travel for the surgery.). I can't keep up soups and yogurts at home or weeks. (note- I'm an avid hiker and average 28 miles of walking a week, so I need calories.) I know some people are different, but how long was it before you were okay with food being around? What other things could your SO been more supportive about? I've read gas is an issue. Which is scary because between him and our English bulldog its already pretty gassy around here 😯. But seriously, any other side effects I should be aware of? I'm for the surgery, so that is not an issue. I just dont know anyone who has been through to ask.
  9. As others have encouraged, embrace this time. Because, there WILL come a time when you are fighting your desire to eat--whether it's physical or mental hunger. Right after surgery, I had a little food antipathy where I was, "Meh--it looks good on paper, but I don't really want to have it in my body." But that passed after maybe the 2nd week. Now I sometimes fight physical hunger. I don't have much head hunger. I crave things like protein and veggies and "clean foods." It's very surreal still. And I enjoy interacting with food to fix meals for the people I love. But I don't feel compelled to eat that meal. You have 1 job right now. You need to get your basics for life: water/liquids, vitamins, and meet your protein minimum each day. A day missing the protein minimum here or there isn't going to kill you, but do it often enough and you will maximize your lean body mass loss. And that's terrible, cuz it will lower your metabolism and slow weight loss. So we want to do everything we can to maximize fat loss while retaining as much muscle as possible. And we do that by getting protein into our bodies! At this time, just don't try to find things that appeal. Schedule times to eat. Eat to that schedule and only that schedule--every 3-4 hours. If you just can't handle solid food, sub the real food meal for a protein drink (just don't get into a habit of doing that--you do have to kinda force yourself to progress on foods). Just know it's your job to eat. Pick EASY, super EASY things to eat at whatever your stage. Unless you're still in softies, beware an over-dependence on yogurts, cottage cheese, and cheese. It's a cop-out (IMHO) for many who remain eating those 2 items for months and months on end. But that's just my opinion. At 6 weeks I'm loving eating 1/2c (volume) per meal. I eat 6 mini meals a day and get in 60-65g protein. A routine day for me: 1st Brekky-Miralax, colace, decaff coffee with Premier Protein used as coffee creamer (6oz) 2nd Brekky-usually some kind of eggs (70g egg whites, 14g turkey sausage crumbles, 1/2 slice reduced fat cheese, 10g baby spinach, 14g mushrooms, 10g red bell pepper, salsa) Lunch-2oz lean protein by weight, fill remaining 1/2c measuring cup with steamed low carb veggie or salad mixture (usually baby spinach, shredded cabbage, cucumber, rbp and WF Italian dressing) AS-2oz protein by weight, fill remaining 1/2c measuring cup with veggies (like carrot sticks, cucumbers, rbp, etc) Dinner-same as lunch, but add 1/2oz avocado + 1/2-1oz tomatoes (by weight) Nutritional Totals: about 525 calories; 60-65g protein; 20g fat; <20g carbs; <10g sugar ***Note: I'm ahead of the curve and have been cleared to eat anything and to add back foods slowly--even raw veggies and salads which I tolerate well.

At three weeks I was allowed to add soft foods - scrambled egg (i could eat about 1/2 of it), Yogurt, Loose oatmeal, and loose mashed potatoes. It was nice to have something with texture after being on fluids for so long. What does your plan call for at 3 weeks?

    3 months post op sleeve...

Antibiotics can wipe out much of your gut microbiota....the helpful bacteria that aid in digestion. You're probably suffering the consequences of a big bug gut die-off from the antibiotics you had to use. To help reestablish good bacteria, eat lots of different things with fiber...beans, peas, apples, raspberries, whole grain, oatmeal, strawberries, etc. Good bacteria gets a boost from dietary fiber. Also eat cultured products like yogurt, kefir, miso...and pickled things like sauerkraut, pickles, olives, dressing with vinegar. All of these things will help get your gut bugs back in order...with good populations that will help your digestion.

    November sleevers here

First of all congratulations on the 75lbs down !! Huge accomplishment!!! I can relate I was sleeved 11/09/17 and I’m down 80lbs. This past month I have more of an appetite, which scares me a little. But I’m doing my best to make an effort to have low calorie, low sugar high in Protein foods and also when I do snack trying to make good choices like string cheese, yogurt and sugar free Snacks . I stay btw 800-1000 calories a day myself.
  13. Hey All, I’m 15 days post-op, just moved to soft foods today and super excited. I have lost 20 lbs so far, I’m energized and feel fabulous. My only problem so far is every time I eat something other then yogurt or pudding, I have a lot of noise. Noise coming from my stomach and/or throat? It’s so embarrassing and I swear people can hear it but I just may be paranoid. Anyone else experiencing these noises? Please tell me it’s normal? Thanks in advance!

    Any March 2018 Sleevers?

WLS 3/30 post op day 6. Had trouble with my lithium meds when I introduced them day 2. Caused all day diarrhea for 2 days. My psychiatrist recommended reintroducing after a couple weeks. New stomach also can not tolerate the protein shake I had been using pre-op. Ugh. Switched to Genepro medical grade protein dded to chicken broth and doing fine. Watered down poweraid zero to make it less sweet and that is nice option to water. I tried 2oz of plain Greek yogurt on day 4&5 but the hives I have had since day of surgery have gotten progressively worse and I need to cut that out as well. 3 more days to purée! Never been so excited

    Life after keto

Personally...I eat a lot of fruits, beans and squash. I don't eat much fat. What fat I eat is usually olive oil, avocado or nuts. My meats are crazy lean. I don't think it's going to be a huge deal to transition fast or slow...but you know your body best. If you run into discomfort or digestive issues, go more gradually. I do whole grain bread in limited quantities, protein pasta, brown rice and potatoes. Lots of veggies. Fish, chicken, Mycoprotien, yogurt, kefir, etc. To each, their own. You have to figure out what's right for you. Discussing it with your nutritionist is a good plan, too.
  17. I had SIPS 12/17 and I’m very pleased. If you stay on track, you feel great. Carbs makes me bloated and gassy. You figure out what you can and can’t eat. Just went on vacation and ate off my hubbys and kids plates most of the time. Had a mai tai as well... I take 2 chewable multi vitamins and one calcium. I usually have a premier protein shake for B or L plus a yogurt. I’m having a hard time with raw veggies now so I stick to cooked. For dinner I have what the family is eating but focus on protein first. Biggest change is my eyes are sometimes bigger than my stomach and I’ve over eaten and just don’t feel well afterwards. Other times I’ve eaten a cheeseburger... Hope this helps SIPS procedure 12/11/17 SW 307 CW 214 GW 160

    Any April surgery buddies

FYI: I have ordered some of the soups off this site, just to give me something more savory as a lot of the broths weren't super great. I got the variety pack, and I have really liked it. I also ordered Unjury's Chicken Soup Flavored Protein powder. Both have been really great, especially while still participating eating with the family, just having the soups. They are great because they have 15 to 21g of protein and no carbs, fats, or sugars. My 2 week was pretty much Premier Protein and Greek Yogurt, about 800 calories, 50g of carbs and 150g of protein with no fat. So adding the soups in have definitely helped at least get through things, I have juiced a few vegetable juice blends too, just to give myself something other than the sweetness of the shakes and yogurt. Just a few more days... you guys are doing awesome and really enjoy reading the updates!

Hi everyone I was sleeved on 3/29.finally feeling pretty good, I am walking and even working a bit. I am down 9.5 lbs. Today I started feeling really hungry. I am currently doing premier protein, triple 0 Oikos yogurt, and protein water. Looking for some additional liquid/soft options
  22. Does it have to be like a premier protein shake? Or can you fancy up your shake? I make a delicious shake in the am using fat free greek yogurt, Unsweetened almond milk, and vanilla cupcake protein powder with mixed in frozen blueberries... throw it in my ninja and make a yummy smoothie. Packs a great amount of protein and other nutrients and I love it. My kids love it.

    9 Days POST OP Sleeve

I never blended anything. I was allowed to choose soft foods and chew till puree. I ate pimento cheese, yogurt, canned chicken, ricotta bake, etc. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. I had RNY 6 months ago. At 3 months, I was drinking a small protein shake (6oz was all I could handle) in the morning, having a scrambled egg or tuna for lunch, an early dinner of chicken in any kind of sauce with a small amount of vegetable and another small protein shake or 1/2 c. of greek yogurt later in the evening. By this time it was easier to get in 65 oz of water.

    Good Vitamins for your hair?

Hey, I've had Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin and Nails Argan Oil infused supplements and it has been working very well for me. Although a major part of our hair and skin quality depends on the protein intake. Hence, I started eating a lot of protein rich foods including Tofu, Hummus, Yogurt and such. I also started with Ace Blend protein powder, as its natural and plant based powder, so the risk factor of side effects eliminates. It provides nourishment to skin and health as it has antioxidants so addresses our basic concerns too. I really like the product! You can try it too.
