Miralax Doesn't Work for Me - Need Options
Rebecca09 replied to Holabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had this problem both before and after surgery...(tmi?) What works the best for me with no cramping, etc. is Philip's Milk of Magnesia. Its not the best taste in the world, but if you pretend its like a shot its fine. Hope that helps. -
keep getting colds since banded (for women)
CanadianBandster posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So - I "was" one of those people who hardly ever got sick - maybe once every two or three years and just a little cold (with exception of flu twice in my life). Since being banded in Dec though....I just started my THIRD cold, plus I have had an ear infection and (warning TMI) TWO yeast infections (which I have never had even one before). WHAT THE HELL. I said to my husband last night - hm, do I want to be fat and never sick or skinny and have colds all the time....grrrrrr what could I be lacking?? Im taking a Multivitamin and Vitamin C and Calcium. Can I go to the doctor and ask her to test me to see if Im deficiant in something or do they do that? Its starting to get on my nerves and Im tired of making my husband and kids sick. PLUS - Im having a PS consult soon and I have to get this figured out or their is no way I can get plastic surgery in May (maybe) if I cant fight off infection. -
Anyone in Oklahoma getting banded????
Rdy4ANewLife replied to conetha's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was really scared too at first. I even cried right before surgery and my Doc talked to me and calmed me down. They wheeled me in and put the mask on me as soon as they got me situated in the OR bed, so I was out of it fast. After surgery, my mouth was VERY dry and yes I was in pain(only when I tried to move and get out of bed). I did get out of bed an hour later to go to the bathroom and I asked them if I could walk(the quicker u start walking, the quicker it will work out all the soreness ur feeling). The next week, I was still in pain, but again, only when I was trying to get out of bed or if I twisted wrong. My pain was consistantly on the left side where the doc had made a deep suture inside me. I had no pain whatsoever at my port site or even where the actual band was located. I was constipated for 6 days.(Sorry if TMI) I have been having trouble sleeping on my sides, which stinks cuz I am a side sleeper at all times! I won't lie, there has been times when I've cried to my husband and just felt like I could give up, cuz I was just so frustrated with feeling bloated, swollen and on top of all that, Mother Nature had visited me as well and not getting to sleep on my side was really getting to me. I was losing alot of sleep. I did forget to mention, I was up walking ALOT and the same day I came home from the hospital, I went to a restaraunt with my hubby and son to let them eat some dinner and get me out of the house. So, it's not alot of pain, it's mainly just feeling uncomfortable. I am on Day 11 now and feeling back to normal pretty much! Sorry this is such a long post, but I thought I would fill you in in my details. I know before my surgery, I was reading all kinds of posts trying to learn everything possible! Hope at least some of it helped. LOL. Good luck with ur surgery and I will keep you in my prayers!! -
I feel the same way about TMI, but we all need to share all of our medical stuff so we know that it can be common or can happen. Oh well thats what im having, no attacks or pain, just the weird bowel movements. it seems like the food i eat is just not being digested. I think i better go see my LAP surgeon and set up a date for GB removal.

well, this is TMI for most people, but I had multiple greasy, loose BMs daily well before diagnosis even. That ended about 2 weeks after the surgery. So goodbye to that AND to the pain. I could not have been happier!

anyone cheat on preop diet?
tcbgirl replied to becksx6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on pre op day 4. The first two days I did great; however, yesterday, I almost passed out. I think it is because my cycle is going to start (it did last night, sorry TMI) and plus only Protein shake and a lean cuisine for dinner. I did ate some almonds and added more veggie (lettuce) to my food. I feel a little better after that. Today, I feel ok but my stomuch os growling all day long. I am going to call my doctor and see if I can drink gaterade due to potassium loos while having cycle. I hope what I did yesterday did not prevent me from having a band. -
I guess all of us are getting a piece of that storm. We had t-storms today and the front should move in tomorrow. Hey, I told the dr. how I would get stuck because of the gas on my stomach. She said to try taking Gas-x before I eat. So, before we went out to eat tonight I chewed a gas-x, and I was able to burp between bites and not get stuck......Probably TMI, but I thought I would share.

Sorry for the abundance of info here but I figured some of you might be able to answer. After surgery, when I would go to the bathroom, I would have a little bit of blood in my urine. I asked my nurse if this was normal and she said yes, it can be. I don't normally have periods so I was concerned. That has stopped now that I'm a few days post-op, but... Now I have blood in my nose. Not nose bleeds. But when I go to blow my nose, there is a little bit of blood. I assume this is also normal, as I had a good amount of blood thinners and my body is on the rebound from surgery, but I wanted to see if anyone else had this happen? I don't mind calling the doctor's office to speak to the surgeon on call but I didn't want to call for something that's not important! Any answers are greatly appreciated!

Does that mean you can cut glass with your shirts? It's pretty cold in here, I htink I might be able to. Oh wait, that may be TMI. -
Sorry if this is TMI but I've stopped getting friction issues between my thighs like deep boil-type infections, ingrown hairs and uncomfortable sweating. I had major relief and I've lost only 20 pounds. Thank goodness I'll have lost even more weight by summer.

Allie, don't you dare go anywhere over a debate with one person. A while back a similar thing happened to me and I almost did the same thing and say forget it, it's not worth it. But you know those folks are rare and for the most part folks here are very supportive. To think of all the support I'd have missed had I just deleted my account and left. Let your success speak for itself and let the naysayers be. I realize folks have had problems with the band and those need to be addressed, but this is afterall a band board too for the most part, I realize there are areas for other surgeries now. Well I lost about 6 lbs this morning. I was so upset to be up 4 and then the stomach flu hit (I know TMI) but there has to be a bright side. I am so down and out today. I've not been this sick for years. I was so worried about slipping my band or something the way I was retching this morning. I pray all is well. Time to go lie back down.

Okay, this is probably TMI but here goes. I am scheduled for surgery at 7:15 in the morning. I have been on the preop diet for 10 days. I had totally forgotten that I was supposed to do Milk of Magnesia today for a bowel prep at 10, 2 and 6. I just remembered and took the first dose at 3:15. If I am off schedule with this a bit do you think it will have an effect on my surgery?

Yay my post didn't get eaten. I meant was texting with my friend not testing. Well I can honestly say the distention in the tummy is going down but the wind is still traveling through it. Having a really hard time with liquids and burping. Also the TMI D thing still going on... imodium works but I don't want to rely on that all day. I can't wait until I am off Clear Liquids. I actually have not lost any weight. Oh and I am NOT in menopause... which explains why I am feeling way more yucky than I might otherwise feel. I think it also explains why I haven't really lost anything, generally for typical "P" whole week I gain 2 to 3 lbs typically and lose it by the end of the week... so 4 more days and hopefully I'll see the scale start moving. The liquids probably would help so I am going to be more diligent about taking them. We are puppysitting in an emergency and if this little guy keeps jumping on my tummy, I am gonna get whatever pitchers wear to baseball games. Still he is very entertaining but his little claws are really sharp and he likes to jump a bit. A week out and I am feeling pretty good. The incisions are looking good and not itching as much now.

Stupid people and their stupid opinions

I am also a TMI person, and I tell it like it is:tt2:. If you don't like me, tough SH_T go find someone you do like. I have told EVERYONE!!!! I am proud I am taking this weight off. I have some FAMILY members who are jealous as heck. I have taken off 30 pounds in 9 weeks and some people look at me like I am sick! I just saw my DMI today and she never said a word, that is because her daughter needs to loose a BUNCH of weight along with her DSI!!!! JEALOUS:tt2:!!!!!! I've got tons of support from my DH and DS, they are proud of me! My husband wants to go to the mall and buy me some more clothes, the first 20 pounds I took off he bought me a new outfit, he was soooo proud. Plus I am shopping in my own closet now, love it! My Pastor and his wife are so proud of me too! He was afraid for me at first, but I think that was from lack of knowledge, he is okay with it now, thinks it's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
:tongue2:Good Afternoon Gang .... I'm taking a break - I've been up since 4;20 - been to the gym 3 miles 45 minutes - hair cut - nails done - last minute target shopping done - but then got home and I thought I had enought dog food - but alas I don't.. Washed out the garage (my fur babies like to poop in there I know tmi) Took a shower and gave myself a spray tan.. I do that now adays - that and the gradual lotion stuff - I have tanned but wasn't a super sun worshiper - I'm fair but do tan if I do it slowly - when xdh and I went on cruise I started going to tanning beds - I love them and could be addicted to them.. As a child we vacationed at the beach every year and this was pre-sun block days - so I have freckle all over.. But laying in the sun - a waste of time - so I am a bottle tanner now... Got the tennis shoes backed - most of the makeup/toiletiers packed - need to still get the sheets out of the dryer make the bed , vaccum and clean counter in bathroom.. So I am almost done - execpt for the things that have to wait til the morning (toothbrush hair brush etc) Apples - I have my suit case packed and closed I'm not even going to open it - so I will just have to make do with what I have.. And I understand about the gf things - I love mine dearly but sometimes they can be real "Bs" Lucky girl 1st class - I could have up graded last yr for $100 for 1st class I kick myself in the butt for not doing it- but I needed the $$ for my Mall of America trip and CLOTHES I bet you are going to have a blast in Vegas.. Joann - Exercise will be chasing that 2 yr old  We don't have a Red Lobster here in the desert I don't know why not cuz it would be jammed packed - So I can't help there - hope you had a nice visit with your friends - sounds like a lot of fun... Long - I think you have to resign up for email notices since they changed servers - I don't get them - cuz back when I joined my lucky #7 pple were so chatting that in 1 hour you would have 3 pages to read and my mail box full - now their are only about only 7 of us who still post regularly... May will be here before you know it - I booked this crusie the end of July 08 - seems like ages ago - but tomorrow we go... Well back to work - cbl in a while .... xoxo J Ellen & Rose where are you - and Kathy & Becky.... Charlene you posted yesterday so I know you are good..

I had another fill on Thursday and did liquids all day Thursday and most of Friday. Friday night I had a a half an avocado and broth based Soup with noodles (soft food) but I also had 2 glasses of wine (BAD I KNOW!!!) In the middle of sex I got super dizzy and had to stop. I couldn't really sit up properly or stand. My partner got me some Water, and then I had 2 crackers. I thought it was just the alcohol and lack of nutrients. I woke up this morning still dizzy, with a sort of vertigo. I had a Protein drink and a bowl of hearty soup for Breakfast and still feel off. I am okay sitting or standing still but when I move I just feel weird. Any ideas why? I have "eaten" now so it shouldn't be my blood sugar or anything... I had my BP checked on Thursday and it was fine. Please help!!

Great post, thanks for the update! I also had a problem with a little "bubble" on the very end of 2 of my incision sites, but the nurse said it was totally normal. On another note, my scars have turned a more dark pink and are "sticking" out a bit more than I think they should. Again, the nurse said ok, no problem and they have since dried up and fallen off (sorry for TMI). I got my first fill this last Tuesday (3.25cc in 10ccband) and it changed me in SO many positive ways, am SO glad I got it. Keep us updated!

Telling People You Are Banded?
WonderWmn replied to WannaBe1/2TheWoman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started the process and won't be banded until September since my insurance requires the 6 month weight loss program... anyway, I've already started telling people... I don't really care what anybody has to say about it, it's my body and my health... so far I've gotten a few 'you don't need that, it's not like you can't walk around', lol... well if they knew my BMI was 43 then maybe they wouldn't think that way... my boyfriend is also going to do it and he's not wanting to tell anyone until afterward... he doesn't have the most supportive family and two of his friends kinda burst his bubble when he told them... my family is thrilled for me and they know how long I've struggled with this and they know me and that I wouldn't make a decision like this unless I had thought it through. But for those people that are private and not wanting to share TMI, I totally understand... I've never been a private person so it's in my nature to blurt it out, hehe -
Why do women have anal sex?
DivaStyleCoach replied to Oregondaisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My hubby had some magazines that he shared with me that talked about it, and he asked me if I would be willing to try it. We were in an adventurous mood, and gave it a shot. It took several "sessions" for both of us to get comfortable, mostly because he was letting me set the pace. *****TMI Alert***** Start with asking her if she would let you explore the area with a finger - go easy, slow and let HER set the pace. Don't just launch into it, go into the session thinking about making her as hot and therefore relaxed as possible. Once she's comfortable with your little finger, for instance, go to a slightly larger finger and work up to your thumb. There are also "toys" made especially for that area...check xandria.com for ideas. If she's comfortable with that, then it's a matter of time and patience. Don't rush it - and definately don't push it, if you know what I mean. It's as much a mental transition as a physical one...good luck! -
Hey shannybp, how are your gas pains? I can still really feel mine. Sorry if this is TMI, but if I could only have one large full body fart I think I would feel so much better! I actually switched to the gas-x gel tabs as they have twice the active ingredient in them than the strips do. I had my post-op appointment today with my surgeon and I confessed to him that I have been cheating on my 1 week post-op diet (not sticking to Clear liquids only this week). He said if I am handling the Soups and Protein shakes okay that he is not worried about it and I can start introducing mushies next week as long as I am up to it. My incisions are healing very nicely so I think he is confident that I am bouncing back quickly from this. I am not going to try anything chunky yet but it sure is nice to be able to eat soup...6 weeks ago I would have called that crazy talk! I really do seem to have some natural restriction...after 5 bites or so my chest tightens up and it feels like a swallowed a tennis ball or something...amazing. My surgeon confirmed that this is my "new full". I don't think I am anywhere close to needing a fill at this point. It's not a full feeling like I remember it being but it's certainly uncomfortable enough that I want to stop eating...hey, whatever it takes, right! I haven't lost any more weight since surgery day but I am honestly not worried about it right now. I got a McD milkshake today and only drank about an 1/8 of it. It made me sick at my stomach so I through the rest away. I have trimmed my calorie consumption considerably so I can't imagine I won't start losing weight at some point. For the record I only drink milkshakes a few times a year..this was just a simple treat for me...my downfall is southern cooking! The only other side effects I am having 5 days post-op is occasional heart/chest burn and nausea. Other than that I am doing great and glad to be back at work so I can start thinking about other things. Later. :lunch:

Another March 13 person here! Doing ok, still a little sore. Have been eating pureed fruit, custard, white fish in sauce, stuff like that. I have been able to eat more than I thought I would; sometimes I feel really hungry but most of the time am not interested due to weird feeling in chest. TMI - definitely badly constipated, have taken laxative stuff today to try to help.:lunch:
-
Well I survived. :lunch: I am doing pretty well considering everything. Actually today I am going to take a bus trip across to see a launch. I have been walking everyday to help get that gas out and sleeping in my lazyboy sofa. Not too bad really... just one TMI thing the liquid post op diet is wreaking havoc on my digestive system as it was before the surgery... ugh. Hoping imodium I started today will kick in. BUt overall... just the distention of my tummy and the betadine still on the skin where the tape is, itchy incisions, no complaints. I figured out since starting this journey I am now down 34 lbs. If you had asked me on Sunday and MOnday, I kept wishing they could just rip the darn thing out of me. I haven't told anyone at work or even my family except my husband. So hoping everyone is doing as well. I'll check back in. Sorry it took me so long but my computer crashed and I didn't find my password right away. Take care! M

How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
DivaStyleCoach replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Elyse! Restriction for me feels like a tightness in my chest when I try to eat too much. For instance, I just finished an apple. I know I am getting full because I can feel the tightness and I know if I eat any more, I'll get "stuck". **TMI Alert** Getting stuck feels like wanting to throw up or burp, but you can't. Sometimes that's my warning signal - since my 2nd fill, I notice I have the feeling I want to burp when I'm eating too fast or trying to eat too much. The PB is kinda unique - if you've ever dry heaved or thrown up, it feels pretty much like that! I notice lots of saliva before that happens (the 'sliming' experience) and my mom used to say when you get "clear water" running in your throat, run for the bathroom! I think that is the additional saliva trying to "wash down" whatever is stuck, but if it doesn't work, up it comes! If you've never PB'ed, don't feel tightness or pain in your chest, and you're still losing at a rate that you and your doctor feel is sufficient, I'd say don't mess with success and keep going! Also - be sure that 1000 calories is ENOUGH for you...not knowing your stats, I can't tell you that, but I have read several messages from banders who say that when they restrict calories TOO MUCH, it makes losing next to impossible because your body goes into "starvation mode" and hangs on to every single calorie. Let us know how you're doing!
