Gala Pics from Friday. I don't even recognize myself.

Awesome. I was just asked to have my network picture updated because it isn't "current" (it was taken just before surgery). #NSV
  2. Spent several hours at the mall today. I haven't done that in 5-6 years. Today I went to "normal" stores, bought clearance shorts and capris in a size 14R (down from 22/24W 6 mos. ago), shoes 1 size smaller than 6 mos. ago, and two shirts in a size SMALL (down from 1-2X). The size small is an outlier 'cause I've got some big hooters, but I'll take it! I can't remember the last time I didn't have to shop in the "big lady" section. Still can't believe this is all real. Sent from my iPad using VST

OK - this is such a minor, silly thing, but I LOVE my shadow!!! I have to walk back and forth outside between buildings at my work each day. Before I started this journey, I noticed how HUGE and unshapely my shadow had become. For some reason that got to me even more than looking at myself in the mirror! Well, now that I'm over 1/2 way to goal, I love looking at my much-smaller shadow that actually resembles a woman's shape! Another NSV - we have a 'cuddle' chair (oversized lounger), that my husband and two sons could fit in fine together. When I would sit next to my husband or my two sons, It was a very tight, uncomfortable fit, and when I would get up, the whole chair would lean forward and slam back and I would about launch whoever was still sitting there. Now I easily and comfortably fit with my husband or both sons, and the chair stays in place when I get up and they stay seated.

    My list of NSV's!

Fantastic list of NSVs - congratulations.
  5. I discovered that I have been down a little lately. While I have lost 23 pounds since since surgery and 30 pound since end of March......I do NOT feel a difference, nor can I "see" a difference. I am still tired and lack energy, my feet still swell. People that see me don't appear to notice a difference either. I am in the same pant/blouse size...albeit my tops are fitting a bit looser than before. Other than that NADA! ZILCH! wah!wah! wah! I did take my measurements and they have all gone down about 1/2 inch each...but I have always been more "solid" than mushy. Do I need to lose a 100 pounds to get an NSV or for it to be noticeable? So discouraging.... however patience has never been my virtue. Sorry for the pity party, but I wondered if any one else has felt like this?
  6. I chose to tell only a few friends about the surgery so most do not know. I haven't seen those friends yet, but for the ones that do know...I don't think they notice a difference yet. That's okay I guess..my hubby says that I seem a little smaller because when he hugs me now he can squeeze his arms around me more. - I guess that is a NSV huh? Oh and I did have to be tacky and use a safety pin to hold my pants up in the waist area yesterday...but the pants in question have always been a bit big in the waist. Hips, legs and calf area fit same as usual. I'll keep trucking along and keep working on that thing called "patience."

Someone else needs to post an NSV, or it's going to look like I'm real thread hog! But, I can't resist posting one more: My bathing suit is getting loose! OMG! I've never had that happen in my life! Oh, and here's an odd thing: I got into a two pairs of 16W pants this week! But... I still can't fit into any size 18 regulars I have. Huh?

    Almost There

I think that is reffered to as, a NSV- non scale victory! The smaller pants, losing inches, etc.. I've lost 24# but, no smaller clothes.... I've refused to go any higher for a while (they are too small) and wear them anyway!! Soon, very soon, I will be seeing such change that I will have to get smaller clothes too. GOOD LUCK AND HEALTH TO YOU AND ALL!!!
  9. Just found that one of the awesome things about losing 70 pounds is being able to comfortably reach my feet and paint my own toesies!!! Hooray for purrrrdy feet!
  10. I've had back pain for quite some time now, mostly due to the hip and knee problems. Even with the new hips, the back still gives me problems unfortunately. So I saw my doctor earlier today and he feels that I could use another epidural for pain management. I've been hesitant to get more shots because I have concerns about the steroids and the possible risks to other parts of my body. When I mentioned this to the doctor, he said that he'd give me a lower dosage. Then I questioned him about making sure it was even worth getting an injection if he lowered the dosage and he laughed and said that I would do fine with a smaller dose because I'm a smaller person. He looked me right in the eye and said that half the dose would be all I needed at this point. My first thought was well...this is an unusual NSV.....

    Pride vs. Shame

I used to be so ashamed of myself. I was always looking inward and judging myself more than anyone could ever judge me. I felt so much shame. Now, I feel pride. Pride is a new feeling for me and I am uncomfortable. I have also found that some people are uncomfortable with me feeling prideful. Huh? I know! I have some friends who get squeemish when I tell them about something exciting that happened to me...it's almost like they would rather not hear it. So, I've stopped telling the people that react that way to me things. I thought it was me- was I getting a high and mighty attitude about myself? Was I braging? No- I was just trying to process this new feeling, that's all. I loved your post, especially the above part. I could have written it myself. Certain "friends"come into mind when I read it. I have actually stopped and thought...do they think I am braging because that is how I feel they feel. I just get so excited, especially when I reach a mini goal or NSV and I want to share it with my friends, but alot of them really dont seem to want to hear it. Thanks for your post...From me its all DITTO!!! Especially the new feeling of pride, hopefully one day we can embrace it.

    Kind of funny NSV

Congrats on your NSV. It's a great feeling isn't it. I always keep a pair of jeans that are to small on the chair in my room where I can see them for motivation. Every couple weeks I try them on. When I can finally get them up, buttoned and zippered it is the best feeling.

    My American Idol experience!

Wow! This is crazy! I am in SLC with my granddaughter. The auditions are Tuesday but we had to be here two days early for registration so we flew in Saturday. We got in line at 5 am Sunday morning at the Energy Solutions Arena. There were about 2,000 in front of us. (Many who slept in their cars.) Thousands more lined up behind us. This is the line to get a wristband which gets you in for the first audition. The doors were going to open at 8:30 am so that was a long time to stand in line. At least it was dark part of the time so we were only in the sun a couple of hours. After an hour of standing, this wild herd of iPod wearing hopefuls all eventually plopped down on the hard cement to wait for their chance at stardom. (There were few of us who were over the age of 28 and not too many bigger than a size 6.) No way I was going to be able to stand there for 2 1/2 more hours so I made the decision to claim my space on the cement and worry about how to get up later. We were not really in a line, but in a mob. I was somewhere in the middle of the swarm. As the time went on, the little space I claimed seemed to get smaller. Maybe I took up more than my fair share? Everyone kept getting closer and closer as if that was going to get them nearer to the front. You can only imagine what happened when the sun came up and the camera wagon rolled by! It was a stampede to get into camera view! I just sat in a fetal position and protected my head. Made it through that near death experience and finally the doors opened. I could see movement way up yonder as the crowd stood up. We were a human wave! Had to get up and fast! OK everyone, make way! Here I come! To my surprise, I was able to stand up all by myself! I couldn't believe it! And I didn't wobble or bounce off everyone like a giant pinball. My NSV! Well, she got her wristband! (One dream come true. Second one pending.) Tuesday she auditions. We have to be there by 5 am but the seats are assigned this time so I just have to dodge the camera stampedes and one more obstacle: We are in row 28 so I have to be able to climb up with this wild crazy mob! I have a feeling they won't be moving slow! Wish me luck! And oh yes, wish my granddaughter luck too. Her name is Kaleigh.

    first NSV

This was my first NSV! It is a great feeling to once again have a choice of seating when going out. There are plenty more NSV's to come!
  15. Somehow my post went somewhere else so I will say it again here... Pookey, you look great! Your glasses are now too big for your face. You need to get smaller frames girl! What an NSV! Woohooo!
  16. I went for my lunchtime walk today. I finally remembered to bring my IPOD to work. I had not used it since before being sleeved. I put on the arm band, but it kept slipping. Irritating! So I tightened it. Then I realized, I TIGHTENED IT! My upper arms were smaller. YAY!!!!
  17. For every 10 pounds lost, I buy a charm/bead for my Pandora bracelet. Each charm somehow represents a part of my journey. (I have a dog because my dog, Truman, is my personal trainer; I have a gym shoe; etc. I'm about to buy one that represents the story The Princess and the Pea because now that I'm thinner, I feel every lump and bump in clothing and in bed! LOL) In addition to buying charms when I hit 10 pounds down, I have commemorated certain milestones with a charm, as well--getting under 200 pounds, losing 50 pounds, losing 75 pounds. By the time I reach goal, the bracelet will be full. Otherwise, my rewards have been new jeans that fit every now and then. And all kinds of NSVs. When I hit goal, I hope to have plastic surgery to rearrange all these body parts that are so much smaller and further south.
  18. Walking!!! That's my biggest accomplishment since surgery, so far! Before surgery, I could barely waddly my fat boo-tay from the house to the car. Walking around a store exhausted me! I started walking up and down my hallway, then around the end of my building, and then on the treadmill. I'm still slowly increasing my distance, but I walked the length of the mall and back a week or so ago and I wasn't tired!! That's amazing to me!! I keep looking for the NSVs, but being able to walk some distance is my favorite thing so far! (Looking better doesn't hurt either!)

I'm so excited for you, SweetBean - wear that 'Rockin' outfit now, if you have an occassion for it! I'm sure you'll look HOT! Hang in there, BKMom - Like SpideyMom said, celebrate the NSV's - you've made a choice and are on the path to an overall healthier lifestyle - that is a HUGE accomplishment to be proud of!!! And Ann - congrats on the size 8 I think I was size 8 at birth (my Mom told me I was the largest baby in the nursery at the time ) I'm currently in a size 12, which I never thought I would fit in again, and I'm hoping for a 9/10 - that would be heaven for me! My NSV this past week was on our family vacation to the beach - I was boogie boarding and body surfing with my young boys, making sand castles, and I went for a 25 minute run barefoot on the beach at sunset. I felt so light and full of energy - what a HUGE difference from last summer! And I was down 2 lbs when I got home - I LOVE THE BAND!!!!

I just had a NSV: A pair of denim capris, and a tee-shirt I have not worn in a year and a half fit- PERFECTLY!, took a shot in the dark trying the capri's on, and they slid right on and buttoned no problem!!!!!!

    Nsv...(Non Scale Victory)

This is a BIG victory. Celebrating with you and cheering you on to many more NSV.
  24. I'm looking forward to all of these things. I'm just so impatient. I should be happy that I've started the journey and the rest will come. I've already changed so much. I quit smoking, kicked my carb craving, decided to leave the job I hate for the one I really want even though it's less money, I'm tracking all of my food, not letting my sometimes boyfriend upset/mistreat me anymore, and soon I'm moving back to Texas where I really want to be. All within the last month. If I can add patience to this list, 2014 will really be the year of the NSV and SV for me.
