    Constant pain during work

I am 5 years out. I would say that your 200 lb weight loss is not just fat, but that you have lost a lot of muscle bulk. That's why you are feeling exhausted on exertion. Did you take to regular exercise during your postop phase to maintain your muscle bulk? If not, then slow but steady muscle building exercise is the solution. Not more endless cardiovascular, but lifting weights, resistance training and strength building. You should start to see results in about 6 weeks if you do 30 mins a day.

    March 23 buddies yet?

When you guys are talking about how much weight you've lost, are you including what was lost during the pre-op diet as well, or just strictly what you've lost since surgery day? I've been a bit disappointed. I lost 10 before surgery, and 11 after surgery (3/24/23), which I was very pleased with. Week 1 I was still on clear liquids, and this week on full liquids, I actually ended up the exact same weight as last week. Just seems really early to be stalling. I'm trusting the process and sticking to the plan, but man it's discouraging.

    Pain

I am assuming that you mean 4 weeks past surgery. Its such early days. Eat slow, tiny bites, wait a minute and repeat. Try and stop before you get the pains. Until you get the restriction feeling it is hard to guess when enough is enough . I got a runny nose or sneezed when I had eaten enough. Don't be afraid to go back a step for a few days. Introducing new foods to our new stomachs is like throwing a cat in a with a pack of wolves. You can guess what will happen, it may be successful but probably not. Just keep going back to the foods that your stomach objects too. Chicken took me 12 months and pasta !! well I have given up on that. Don't feel afraid, just try new things at home. Find something to do after eating, I walk, change beds or hoover, the exercise seems to shift the food and the stretched feeling gets better
  5. 3 days post op & I feel good! Some minor gas pains but WALKING DEF HELPS!! Just saw my Primary & says I can drive as long as Im not taking any narcotics, which I’m happy say I don’t need! I see my surgeon next week.
  6. Have you tried calling your doctor? I hit a stall for about 4 weeks. Then started losing again. My doctor said if I hit a stall again that lasts over 2 weeks to call. There are things they can do or tell me to do to break the stall. Sent from my SM-S901U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Hi, I had VSG on 2/1/23. I'm down 27 pounds so far since then. I've had a stall of about 4 weeks. But back to losing. Prior to surgery when I started this process I changed my eating habits. It was 19 months from beginning to surgery. Anyway, I lost 52 lbs during that period so I'm down 79 pounds so far. I just thought I'd lose it quicker at first after surgery. I started out at 347, down to 266. I'm pleased with where this is going but thought it would be more, anybody share their 2 month loss? Thanks [emoji4] Sent from my SM-S901U using BariatricPal mobile app

  12. Hi Everyone! I'm about 4 months post-op from gastric sleeve (12/2) and I have started noticing probably in the past 3 weeks that I feel nauseous from about 10am to 7pm unless I eat. It's almost like grazing to be honest. I might have lost 2lbs this month which is also concerning. I have tried my best to get back on a schedule (eating 3 to 5 times a day) the past week but the nausea is really hard to deal with. I don't eat on my 45 minute commute to and from work but the drive home is absolutely terrible. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

    Hair Shedding & Hair Loss

I have had 3 cycles of really noticeable hair loss since my sleeve 16+ months ago. It's finally (I hope!) growing back. I suspect it won't be as thick as it once was but I am totally OK with that. By the time it's falling out the new hair is already growing. I have never seen any decent evidence that any supplement makes any difference. In the same way the people talk about 'breaking' a stall by twiddling with protein and fluids and exercise and goodness knows that else, I think that people might attribute the regrowth to whatever supplement they were taking at the time whereas really it was just gonna grow back anyway. Human nature.
  14. Went through the entire program, 6 months. Did all the tests, appts, etc. Lost 60 lbs. Got a surgery date of 4/14 (a week from Friday). Started the pre-op diet on Sunday. Just got a call from my surgeon saying my insurance now wants to do an additional medical review and probably wont let me know until the day before surgery if I am approved. I find this completely unacceptable, and I'm so equally full of rage and sorrow right now I don't know what to do with myself. (Not to mention all the potentially lost wages for the time off I already booked)

I hope you are in surgery and they didn't cancel! I had to stop losing weight because I was paranoid they'd refuse mine.

  15. You will do it! Stalls are so frustrating.

    Worried I won't lose enough

I am a old'ish woman who has managed 141pounds so far with the sleeve. I can do very minimal exercise beyond walking and housework and one day a week working in a charity shop. I have dodgy knees. Anything I have done then you can too. I was not given a weight goal but my team were overjoyed in January when I weighed in and they did the math. I was way over the 60% expected weight loss Its your journey to better health, don't take too much notice of others. That route can be unsettling. I keep changing my goal, just to see if its possible. I dont know if I can reach 180 but to be honest, I am super happy at 199. I look fabulous now in the mirror [without my glasses on] I am amazed how good my sleeve has worked for me.

    1 week out

Yes the shoulder pain is from the surgical gas which is pumped into your abdominal cavity. It rises & settles behind your lungs putting pressure on nerves & causing shoulder pain. It takes about a week +/- to be fully absorbed into your lungs & breathed out. Best advice is always follow your plan. It is in place to protect your healing tummy & support your recovery. I always say: all because you can doesn’t mean you should. It’s not a race. There isn’t a prize for doing more or doing it sooner. You’ll be okay but don’t push your luck by continuing to do more than what is recommended - even though you may get frustrated.

    Hair Shedding & Hair Loss

Most of us have been where you are now. Hair loss is common with weight loss (& during pregnancy & stressful periods too) . Your natural hair loss cycle has been accelerated as a stress reaction to the surgery, weight loss, hormonal changes, etc. The hair you are losing you would have lost anyway but over a longer time period. That hair is dead so you can’t save it. Your new hair is still growing though at it’s usual rate. Supplements won’t help your dead hair but may make your new growth stronger. Yes, three months is generally how long it lasts +/-. Hair grows slowly & you don’t usually notice your new growth coming in but a couple of months after you stop losing your new hair may be long enough for you to start to notice it (short fluffy strands)

    Stalles

Stalls will break when your body is ready. You can’t really force it to happen. If it broke when you did that before it is more likely because your body was ready to start to lose again & not because of dietary restriction or increased activity. Stalls are an important part of your weight loss as it is when your body resets itself in response to your weight loss to date (metabolism, hunger & satiety hormones, etc.). Stick to your plan & don’t stress your body more.
  20. I'm one year and 2 months out from MGB. I had my surgery in Egypt (self paid) end of January 2022. Starting weight 149 kg, current weight 78.8 kg (this morning). This forum has been a huge help for me since I did the surgery without any proper research which is not something that I'd usually do but I was really frustrated and fed up with trying to lose weight and not getting any lasting results. I'm not currently following any specific diet and I eat whatever I want (in very small quantities) - please don't tell my doctor haha. I eat my protein first, followed by vegetables and salad and then carbs if I'm still not full. I take 1/2 teaspoon of sugar with my morning coffee. Of course, I had to follow the program that was given to me after the surgery. I had a long stall for the past 3 months or so but luckily I'm losing again since I started fasting (the fasting month started 14 days ago). My current target is 70 kg (I'm 170 cm tall) and I can't wait to lose the last 9 kgs. I got a mountain bike when I was 120 kg and have been riding it around my house which helped with the weight loss. The longest distance for me was 8 km. It has been raining almost every night here and I've not been able to use the bike for almost 3 months or so.Hopefully the weather will improve soon. I'm working in a remote town and there is a small gym here. I'm to check it out next month. Here is a photo of me around 2013 that I found while organizing my laptop folders vs me this morning. Needless to say, life is getting better and better overall and I can't wait to try all the things that I've not been able to do because of my weight.

    How long to see improvement?

The first 2 days home were the worst. I stayed on each food level an extra week, and went back to liquids when I had an issue with food getting stuck. Just go slowly because it was a double surgery. I only used powdered Tylenol for pain meds because of allergies. Warm liquids felt better and moving often helped me feel like myself. (Communion wafers still get stuck and my doc said it was common 18 months post.)

    Feeling pretty low

It's between the 6 and 12 week mark most people have regrets...I know I did. I felt like I was wasting away, not losing weight in a healthy way. It will get better, to a point where one day soon you'll realize you feel "normal" again, and you'll get a burst of energy from carrying around so much less.
  23. Hi, I'm new to this forum. I am one week out from gastric sleeve surgery. During the first 4 days, I had terrible shoulder pain. My surgeon said it happens to some patients and is due to air left in the stomach after surgery. Currently, the pain comes back periodically. I have a fear of intaking too many ounces per hour. At my post-op discharge, I was told to try to get 4 ounces in per hour. On day 5 I was able to finish 4 oz in 30-45 minutes. My fear is that I will jeopardize the integrity of the stomach sutures. Has anybody else experienced these issues?
  24. I just started adding a lower calorie protein to my coffee throughout the day, just to hit a higher amount... I'm hoping that works, next step would be a week of liquids.

    5 weeks post op

I will ask your doctor to confirm since surgery does mess with your hormones. It took me a month to get my period which I didnt have for almost 10 months before that, and then I had a period every 2 weeks until I hit my 4th month. Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
