Okay, so I knew it was a possibility. But, really? a reality? I keep having bouts of diarrhea this last week. To be honest I started having issues with it before I became banded. I went to the Dr. and she sent me to specialist. No ever thought about my issues being from milk products. When I became sick in the classroom yesterday my co-worker said, okay what did you eat today, then what did you eat yesterday. The common ingredient was milk. I have learned to like cottage cheese and l love Greek yogurt. Apparently they don't love me and just want to run away. As a matter of fact I have been not well since Saturday morning I decided to make my protein shake with milk. My tummy was not happy. A few hours later I ate Weigh Watchers Grilled Chicken breasts. Then I got stuck, then I vomited and well...this week has not went well. I guess milk and I no longer agree with another. I am still loosing weight properly, just irritated about the irritation. On the other hand, I can't eat ice cream or chocolate without making myself ill. http://tinkrisegrind.blogspot.com/2012/08/lactose-intolarant-i-cant-even-spell-it.html

Question: How do you know if your getting enough food in a day?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Med1862's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had surgery same day. On my follow up I was allowed to start with soft eggs, refried beans, cream of wheat or rice, malt o meal, low fat or non fat cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, canned fruit unsweetened and make sure it is peeled, sf pudding, laughing cow cheese. I try to keep more to the protein side, and I make sure I get at least 60 gms of protein, protein for you though should be higher. Starting now, I can have string cheese, deli meat, baked, broiled, grilled fish or seafood, water packed tuna, light or reduced calorie yogurt. I'm actually taking this from my nutrition guidelines provided by my clinic. They give up a notebook, outlining what to expect, what to eat, where we can get it. Great reference. I still try to avoid potatoes as it causes my BS to raise, but have tried some. Also states in the book to have only about 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup, also I see soft cooked green beans and soft cooked carrots. Deli meat is 1 oz. Tuna is 2 tablespoons with light mayo or miracle whip. Hope this gives you some idea and helps. Just make sure to stay hydrated that is the most important, without fluid you are gone in about 10 days, without food it is about 30 days. -

March 20th- New to group and New to sharing
tfalk69 replied to deedeedubbs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The bike riding only bothers my knee when I try to go up one of the many hills near my house. Not pain as much as I hear it "clicking" and I get off and walk it up I felt really good on the plane, was flying alone with my 8 year-old and just felt happy and capable of keeping up with her. I'm doing pretty well with my protein; I like Think Thin 20 g bars or Premier Protein 30 g shakes for my breakfast then have yogurt for a snack with grilled chicken breast or shrimp for lunch. Some more chicken (deli meat) usually for a snack and cheese or an egg in the afternoon then some other protein for dinner. I usually only have a snack later if I'm low on protein. My daughter recently became a vegetarian so I'm experimenting with meatless options. If you're on Facebook I'm in the group My Bariatric Kitchen - they have recipe ideas and other advice for getting in protein. I use MyFitnessPal to track my protein and have the same username if you want to friend me to see my diary. I've struggled with my water intake but am doing good today - 40 ounces so far. I have a desk job so the steps are harder to come by but hopefully I'll bike tonight. I'm going to try going back to the gym at work and use one of the trainers, just need to start off slow since I'm only at about 1000 calories too. Have fun camping!! Our family doesn't camp (yet) but I'm a Girl Scout leader and took our troop for an overnight in June that involved some hiking and was so happy I could keep up!! Looking forward to more adventures as I become more healthy!! -
A question for the group~ So my last fill was in April, filled to about 5ccs. I have only lost about 10lbs since then, and only 25lbs total, so I have felt like I was maybe just a hair away from the sweet spot, but vomiting pretty often and PBing so I haven't wanted to go any tighter. But over the last 6 weeks or so, I have been eating less and less and as I eat less, it seems like the less I CAN eat. I feel like my band gets tighter, the less I eat. I am eating Protein shakes in the morning, yogurt, a soft lunch and chewing really well, but at times turning to shakes just to quell the evening hunger. I am thinking that I might be too tight, but it's so counter intuitive to me because, #1, I am not losing that much weight and #2, I thought losing weight made you looser anyway. Now for the first time I am having heartburn... something that I have never had a problem with before. Why would my band suddenly just get tighter?? Whatcha'll think??

Hi Ladie - I'm not an August 12 but I am hear to tell you the liquids are kind of rough. The problems I am having are it takes all day to get my fluids in and I am very worn out from lack of calories. I can have yogurt without fruit and my protein also but they sit very heavy.

My surgery was on the 24th and I am still having quite a bit of gas build up. I feel fine in the morning, but as soon as I drink my Protein shake or but broth in my mouth, I start with the gas build up. By evening time I feel horrible again. I chew Gas X but really concerned how long this will last. I go back to work on Monday, and this might be quite embarrassing. I start my thicker Soups tomorrow and yogurt shakes, will this help having little bit more solid food. Also, I used to love my coffee in the morning and now I can't even stomach but a couple of sips. I have no desire to drink it. Will this feeling will go away? You know i never realized how many commercials on TV revolve around food. As I am sitting watching and hungry a food commercial comes on and It's food and I think boy will I be glad when I can have food again and it seems so far away before that time.

My surgeon says yes to grits and oatmeal. He even says toast(not brave enough for that yet) I know that grits aren't very nutritious but I was thinking of whipping them up with scoops of unflavored Protein powder just for something different. I couldn't stomach jellos or puddings before surgery and even after its hard to to get one down . Im already down to shakes, popsicles, and yogurt so it'd be nice to have a different texture at least once a week. It's never too late, until its too late

Gaining the weight BACK after doing everything to get ready and now losing the surgery because my weight went up instead of going down
WildGrits replied to SleeveVPNYC's topic in Rants & Raves
It might be worth charting every bit you put in your mouth for a week. I know I have been a victim of "Eating Amnesia" in the past. It can really railroad you.<br /><br />These days I am being very consious about my protein intake. For breakfast my options are Kashi GoLean cereal, eggs with hot sauce, or a protein shake.<br /><br />I eat every three hours like clockwork. Snacks are cheese, yogurt, nuts, or Protein To Go drink.<br /><br />Lunch is either a protein shake or soup with atleast 15 grams of protein and not over 300 calories.<br /><br />Dinner is meat and veggies.<br /><br />I don't know where I read this, I'll have to find my book, but for every gram of carbs you take in, you will hold four grams of fluid to aid in it's digestion. When you reduce your carbs you lower water weight and force your body to start using the Glycogen stored in your liver causing more weight loss.<br /><br />So I would suggest really looking at your carb intake and promoting more protein as it feeds the muscle.<br /><br /><br /><br /> -
I dropped nearly all the weight by the 12 month mark. Since then, it's been a lot slower and had I been following the diet here in Europe, I'd have lost more (I've been here 3.5 months and only lost 8 pounds, but it's from all the physical activity, as I've been eating and drinking bad stuff like CRAZY and need to get back on board when I return home). I had a lot of complications my first few months, hated food and developed an intolerance/nauseous reaction to almost everything, so the first 100 lbs were gone in less than six months. I'm a picky, fussy eater who never cooks and is very busy, so I just found the right foods and stuck to them hell or high Water, lol. I rarely ate full meals during my first year because that simply didn't work for me (I'm so busy and always on the move). I just found the right combo of stuff at CVS/Walmart/gas stations (high protein/low carb nutrition bars, this special milk called Fairlife (it filters lactose and sugar out, Protein added, I used it like a Protein shake because regular protein made me nauseous), protein gummies, fruit/veggies on the go (snack packs that would have sliced apples with yogurt/sugar free caramel, or diced watermelon, or carrots with Peanut Butter, etc), protein gummies, and TONS of cheese. I also eat fast food pretty often, but I limit it. Chili from Wendy's, hot dog with chili from checkers with only a tiny fraction of the bun, cheeseburger from mcdonalds with the bun pulled off, taco bell pretty consistently (I either get crunchy shell or peel away most of the flour tortilla). I didn't do hardcore exercise (but between school, work and internship I was working 90-100 hours/wk), although I did walk everywhere. Walked as much as I could, because I knew I could sustain that. My biggest tip is to BE REALISTIC about your preferences/likes/habits/behaviors. I didn't try to completely change myself, because I knew I'd fail if I tried to be one of these "make ten meals, freeze them in tupperware, use cauliflower crust and complicated healthy recipes and go to the gym every day" people. They are WONDERFUL, they are successful, but they are not me. So I tweaked/adjusted things, creating a plan I knew I could maintain. There wasn't really a wagon to fall off of. I still eat fast food, I just skip the fries and pull the bun/breading mostly off. If I want dessert or a snack, I indulge, taking a few bites and then toss the rest in the trash or give it to a friend. That way, I'm not obsessing over it, I've satisfied the craving, and I haven't binged/gone overboard. In the end, you'll find what works best for you. You may be one of the people who takes great joy in completely changing everything, establishing brand new cooking/exercise routines for yourself, etc. Whatever the outcome, just find something you can LIVE with.

Drinking Water...or hydrating--period, was very difficult for me; as it is for most. However, in the midst of my exercise routine, drinking water was much easier. Hopefully, you will find it easier to hydrate during your exercise as well. I personally tried to consume higher calorie foods on my exercise days. I needed the energy and sustainability to get through my rigorous activities. My biggest go-to was unsalted nuts or natural peanut/almond butter. At 6 weeks post-op, I know consumption is really difficult. At your stage, Greek yogurt embedded with fruits was my other go-to-food. The extra sugar gave me extra energy. One last tip for hydrating: ice. I love to go to my local Dairy Queen (I'm a Texas girl) and grab a cup of their fine, soft ice and munch on it. It goes down so much easier that drinking water. Keep it up!!!

Purée do’s and dont’s
Chrisb428 replied to Khloe617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe try soft scrambled eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, refried beans. All are recommended during my upcoming puree phase. Good luck! -
My husband is moving on to phase 2 any suggestions
J San replied to mystars.0110's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My phase II was full liquid. I drank protein shakes mostly but also made yogurt drinks (watered down greek yogurt and a scoop of protein powder). Also all clear liquids from previous phase. Mushy or pureed foods was phase III. -

Sosewsue61 replied to mystars.0110's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We don't have any idea what his phase II includes. Mine was semi-liquid, high protein yogurts, refried beans with a little melted cheese, cottage cheese, strained soups, sf puddings. -
String cheese, white cheddar baby bels, bold salt and vinegar almonds, Atkins nut rolls, Atkins coconut bars, hard boiled eggs, salami, avocado, refried beans and cheese, nut butters, coconut chips, one birthday cake bars (yummy), one maple glazed protein bars also amazing, Greek yogurt and if I'm craving carbs a dill pickle kills the craving every time.

I'll be 6 days postop on Christmas. Doctor said I could try yogurt and cottage cheese by day 4, will try later today. If that goes well, would it be okay to try some thinned mashed potatoes or yams, or.. something usually served for the holiday? Would powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury mix in okay with those? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Pre-Band Eating Habits? HELP!
jjsmiles replied to southerngirltx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just to add what my typical day looks like now: I ALWAYS have breakfast. Weekdays I have an individual package of oatmeal (either low sugar or weight control). On weekends I will have 1/4 to 1/2 cup of egg whites scrambled, with some parmesan cheese on 1-2 slices of weight watchers toast. Occasionally I will have real eggs. Lunch: some kind of protein - either turkey or chicken or lean ham, tuna or cottage cheese or cheese (usually about 2 oz), some kind of carbohydrate (crackers, or weight wathcher's bread), 100 g of fat free yogurt and a piece of fruit (I might save the fruit and yogurt for a snack). I may also have some raw veggies (although I am not very fond of raw veggies, so mostly not). Dinner: protein (usually 3-4 oz) and lots of veggies. I love cooked veggies - some favorites: asparagus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, brocoli, spinach, edamame beans, green beens. I don't use a lot of sauces, but I do use extra virgin olive oil, and parmesan cheese and some sauces (ie stir fry or salad dressing). I can still eat pasta and I will have pasta about once a week. Evening snack: 100 calorie packs (popcorn is a favorite), turkey pepperoni (only 45-50 calories per stick ), fruit, suagr free pudding (about 60-100 calories per 1/2 cup), homemade high fiber, low fat, muffin (under 100 calories each), or a vita muffin (around 100 calories). I always plan an evening snack, even though I don't snack much during the day, because my real weakness is evening eating. If I am going to have cookies, or cake, usually it is on the weekend and I have it and enjoy it immensely. Despite my horrible eating patterns of the past, I am finding this way of eating pretty easy to maintain. I have been eating this way consistently for 9 months now (some slips - we won't talk about my trip to Europe last summer). I have never done this in my ENTIRE life for this long. I started this way of eating pre-band, but it is much easier to maintain since the band. Most of the time I actually have to plan to eat, to make sure I am eating enough nutritious stuff. That said, I still want to eat in the evenings, even when full :frown: Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to let you know that I am probably the poster child for dysfunctional eating and letting food control me (please note my highest ever known weight). I just want to let people know that if you are willing to commit yourself, you can and will be successul, but it is a lot of hard work that you have to do for yourself. I read on a post in the last couple of days that someone said she looked at the band as a maintenance tool, but the actual weight loss was up to her. That statement really spoke to me and, in my case, I 100% agree. Good luck and know that you CAN do it!:frown: -
There was some Passover discussion a few weeks ago. I'm planning on making chopped liver and chopped herring. And I'll eat the gefilte fish and matzah ball Soup. Can you eat yogurt? I know some people can, who don't tolerate milk. I'm not too worried.

6 Days Post Op And I'm Starving.
CHELL replied to CHELL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thx so much guys. My taste buds r not cooperating post op n all the protein shakes I could stomach pre op are making me gag post op. I know I must get protein in but I just don't know how I'm going to do it. My first follow up appt is Fri so I'll dicuss it with my dr. He has me on strictly liquids (broth, Popsicles, jello, etc) and I'm starving. Hopefully he'll let me kick it up to at least yogurt, pudding, etc. I think I could stomach protein powder mixed in those better than liquids. Thx again. -
Hello, I am almost three months out and I have hit the dreaded plateau for two weeks now without any weight loss. I am told by my NUT to stick with the program, but I really feel bored with my diet. for breakfast, when I don't wat eggs, I eat feta and gouda cheese or low fat greek yogurt, but I read somewhere that these go down quickly and may not be considered "solid food" as such, and cause one to get hungry much sooner. For lunch and dinner I eat a small piece of chicken and grilled veggies. I don't have fruits. I try to get as much water in between as I can. I also feel hungry just an hour or two after the meal. Any of you experience the same? Do you snack or only do three meals a day? I exercise at least three days a week. I am also curious to learn your diets. For instance, how did you break the plateau? do you eat lentil and fava beans (I love both!), fruits, seeds, and if so when did you introduce them after surgery. Many thanks.

I pureed egg with Greek yogurt ......horrible can't even look at an egg. But tuna pureed with Mayo and dill relish was awesome I did it 1 week post op.

Hello :-) I'm on the pre-op diet and my diet is a Protein drink for bfast & lunch, with a lean meat/veggies for dinner. I can snack on a piece of low fat cheese or light yogurt. I'm on my fourth day and I'm doing ok. Not sure if I'm just second guessing myself, but its not that bad. I've found that my Protein Drink tastes pretty good with mio in it, I tried the chocolate dream powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury in fat free milk this morning (it was yummy) and my snack has been Greek yogurt (which I don't like plain) with fat free sugar free powder pudding added. I guess I thought I'd feel miserable, but I don't. I thought the food would be horrible (I'm a very picky eater) and its not. Has anyone else experienced this 'this isn't so bad' realization? I'm looking forward to the surgery...the 20th can't come soon enough :-) P.S. I love reading everyone's stories...they are true inspirations...keep up the GREAT work!!!
