    Post op gas and pain

I had a LOT of gas post-op, and I still get it. Luckily for me, it doesn't really hurt and passes easily. Still, I chew 2 extra strength GasX tablets 2 x daily when the gas is out of control and it works very well. Also, I am newly lactose intolerant. If I drink an 8 oz glass of milk, I will have terrible gas and flatulence for 24 hours! 4 oz of yogurt? Flatulent for 3 hours! What are you eating/drinking? Could you no longer be tolerant of foods you easily consumed previously?

    1 week post op

Do they not give you a number you can call or someone you can email or something to ask questions? Every program is different. My full liquids included things like yogurt.
  3. I don't know if you were referring to me but if it'll help any i don't have a set menu. I try to stick to low carb. 50g carbs and under, 60 to 70g Protein and at least 64oz of Water. Most days im good. But others i struggle. I try to log everything. Even the "bad" foods, which of im being honest I've had way more of than i should. I've been taking sips of things like full sugar soda. Which is dangerous. Especially since it's very uncomfortable. But after this last time that's a non issue. I've been slipping but on my good days I'll have as follows: Bk: boiled egg Snack: half a greek yogurt Lunch: 2 to 3 oz of meat protein Snack: 1oz cheese stick Dinner: 2oz meat protein .5oz veg maybe a carb but usually not Snack: last half of Greek yogurt maybe 2.5 oz. I have no food scale as of yet but plan on it in the very near future. I think meal planning is in this vein. What's does your food consist of if you don't mind me asking? I seriously need meal suggestions and ideas. Sorry this is so long im really struggling. Going back to my shakes until i can get a better handle on my food. Four Golden Rules

Avoid any food advertised on TV? I think that one's a little harsh... I eat greek yogurt, cheeses, beef, pork, chicken... they're all advertised on tv.
  5. I'm getting pretty nervous. My house is clean, I finished up with work, and I've done all my shopping. I even cleaned out the fridge and freezer so I don't have anything I shouldn't have in the house. I have a couple more things to do around the house over the next 2 days and I will do some food prep over the next couple of days (not a ton to do, just putting some greek yogurt, SF Jello, broth in 2 oz cups, etc... ) It would be much easier if I could just keep busy. How are you all feeling? Lori

    6/08/09 - Day 1 of 84 day challenge

Okay, I decided to start the BFL challenge AGAIN...I've only done it once completely. Usually I don't make it to the end of the 12 weeks, but this time, I'm going to do it! I did it about 18 months ago and had good results, so I need to focus on the results I had and not the "working out 6 days a week". I know I can do it, I just need to do it! I took my before pics last night, so I can compare my pics every 4 weeks and compare my changes. I brought my workout clothes with me to work, so I can workout during lunch, there is NO EXCUSES. Menu today Bfast yogurt mixed with cottage cheese Snack hummus/carrot sticks Lunch 3 0z chicken spinach salad Snack cantelope 1 string cheese Dinner soup Exercise - Upper Body work out Wt - 159.1 - Yay, in the 150's!!!!!
  7. I'm doing well. I'm not quite up and all over the place yet, but the only thing that's hard so far is the puréed diet. Pretty much live on yogurt. My sleeve seems fine. Thanks for asking!

    Can I cheat a little?

Sorry to hear about your suffering! I have to agree with the other folks that your first step should be to get in touch with your doctor's office as soon as they re-open after the holidays. I don't think it's a stupid question to ask why you have to stay on the liquids for so darn long. Maybe there's some good reason for torturing you...although I can't imagine what. Try to avoid wrapping your hands around your doctor's neck when you seem him though... The only other thing I can offer is that tomato soup and lowfat, low-sugar yogurt are an acceptable part of my own post-op liquid diet. I've also been having sugar free Jello and sugar free and fat free pudding. I'm just coming up on my first post-op appointment on January 3rd (2 weeks post-op). At that time, the doctor decides if I can move to real "pureed" foods. Again, make sure you're getting in your Protein, which will help keep your hunger at bay, at least for a little while! Hope your clothes are already hanging off of you!

    Peanut Butter

My doc's plan allows for Peanut Butter immediately as a soft Protein (creamy style, of course - avoid the crunchy types for a while.) I didn't use it much after the initial 2-3 weeks when I could get in better protein rich foods as its' caloric content is a bit much to swallow in any quantity during the loss phase, I typically had some on a saltine cracker or two, as those are good at soaking up excess stomach acid and settling stomachs that are still getting used to their new life. It should be good whenever your plan gets you onto soft Proteins - soft cheeses, yogurts, etc., unless your doc's plan specifically says otherwise.

    A Couple of questions.

Molly, so you eat it cold, right? I have found recipes and ideas for cold. I normally have cherry or blueberry Greek Yogurt with a tablespoon of ground flax seed. I miss hot cereal. With cold foods you can always add Protein powder, to bump up the protein if you need to. I have yet to find a powder that works in hot foods. I live in Minnesota and this winter I have really missed starting my day with a hot breakfast! My NUT told me that Egg Beaters would be my best option for a hot breakfast. I just can't get excited about eggs in the morning, although I do have them for either lunch or dinner at least a couple days a week. Thank you so much for the ideas! I am definitely going to check out that site. Always looking for new ideas!! Carol

    Post sleeved Group Question

I'm almost 3 months out. I did not have a problem getting my liquids or Protein, really from the beginning. I've also had almost no nausea. I've lost 47 pounds (including the pre-op diet.) Even though I had no trouble getting in my liquids, I'm full after eating 5 ounces of Greek yogurt even now. My sleeve is definitely working for me. I think I was just blessed with a relatively easy postop course. Sounds like you were too. The weight will come off. It seemed slow to me in the beginning, but losing 47 pounds since mid-March is not really slow, so I'm not complaining. Good luck!
  13. I was in the same boat. I had a 7 Lb window that I HAD to maintain - that was the hardest thing to do. I was lucky that Federal BC/BS only required 3 months of Nutrition and what not opposed to other company's 6 months. But we've made it! Trying to stay in my window, I really tried to watch what I ate, which I always try to do. Since I was approved, I was now told that I can relax - just don't go crazy. I another night of all you can eat crabs, a steak dinner with all the sides, another night at a Fondue restaurant, another visit to a winery, and then to a brewery. That's it - Not that I won't have these again, well not anytime soon , nor in this quantity. Just in case my taste buds change and don't like these things anymore, I want one last taste. Did you have to track what you were eating for a week to see how much protein you were eating? I could not believe how little I consuming! What an eye-opener! Someone had told me to freeze Protein drinks - Like Muscle Milk/ Premier Protein to have high protein popsicle snacks. I guess you could do that with Greek Yogurt too. I think tonight it will really hit me..... What is your Pre-Op Diet? Mine is something called Robard - it's 4 meal replacement "Things" a day. Shakes/drinks/soups/pudding.... and can drink Gatorade, low sodium broth as fillers
  14. <HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d9d9d9; COLOR: #d9d9d9" SIZE=1> Hello all! I've been banded over a year now and well it's just this thing in my body that makes it difficult for me to eat but hasn't really helped me in any life altering way to lose weight. Anyhoo, on Friday I noticed pain when trying to eat and since then have not even been able to get mushies down. I struggled with a bowl of yogurt and granola (broken up tiny granola) this morning. I had a hard time eating ice cream last night even. Oh and I know what your thinking (ice cream, no wonder she's not losing)!! But let me assure you the ice cream is out of sheer desperation as I was so hungry and didn't have anything else on hand that should go down easily. Tonight it has taken me nearly five hours to get down a completely melted (water consistancy) smoothy and it HURT going down. Every drop! Okay, I was going off track for a minute. So, here's the thing, I've moved out of state and my doc is in TJ. I am BROKE and have no insurance and no doctor to go see. So, I am trying to figure out what is going on with me so I can plan my next move. Any advice is appreciated!!!
  15. Try making your own shakes. GNC has unflavored protein powder. You can add fruit and yogurt with crystal light in a blender. I can't drink the prepared shakes or muscle milk. Another thing to try is freeze some decaf coffee in an ice cube tray. Mix the rest of the cold coffee with unflavored PP in the blender with a little milk and the sweetener of your choice and blend with the ice cubes you created tastes like a frappacino from Starbucks. Get creative, try using the sugar free flavored syrups. I even added the protein powder to broth and blended it. Not as good but it works.

    Get A load of this!

I think this may be the same article, from a site that doesn't require a password. It's a PDF, 414 kb. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/store/10.1002/bies.201400071/asset/bies201400071.pdf?v=1&t=hzxncpc31743f53f FYE, please confirm it's the same article. Great reading. I'm definitely keeping the daily Greek yogurt and I'll be adding some pickled foods. Lynda

Happy Friday! Tonight I'm going to Rutgers to watch my 16 year old nephew play HS basketball for the championship. How proud I am of him! UGH, you would think at 4 they would be sleeping already!!! vites - in there baby Water - 20 oz in 40 to go exercise - maybe later NEXT>>>>>
  19. Ladies, you really need to get your protein in if you want to lose weight. Mashed potatoes are not what you need at this point. Yogurt , soft cheese, protein shakes should be the majority of your intake at this point. Small sips and walking in between is what helped me get it in. And sip, sip, sip that water!
  20. I am in soft food now, been struggling a bit with it. Not really because of my sleeve, but more of my own fear. I've been having various soups, greek yogurt, SF applesauce... I tried oatmeal, that went poorly. I ended up in bed with some crazy nausea with that. I tried a baked potato last night and that went fine. Scrambled eggs have also been successful. Next week I hope to move on to some egg salad and chicken salad if I can increase my bravery levels I was sleeved on 6/10/15.

    What's On Your Grocery List?

greek yogurt ... low fat string cheese...and what ever fish is on sale...OOoo and lots of salad..
  24. I just had my sleeve done on Feb 25th. I'm 8 days out and starving as well. For my preop diet my doctor had me on a high protein low carb diet. After surgery for the first 7 days nothing but liquids. Tomorrow is my post op and I am supposed to start protein shakes on top of the liquids and supplements for 2 weeks. I'm not supposed to start soft foods until March 21st but it feels like I wont make it. I just want some unsweetened applesauce with an egg or one of my fat free yogurts. For days I felt I was the only one feeling like this and thinking maybe the sleeve didn't work. But I'm hungry. I'm going to try putting my protein powder in the broth later to see if that helps. March 31st!

I love this site! Went to the doc today and I'm down 6 lbs. He was pleased. I guess every doc is different. He said between tomorrow and Friday to start introducing what he calls pureed....adding yogurt, scrambled egg, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes with low fat gravy, can add melted cheese to egg too. There were a few more suggestions, but don't recall them right now. I will be on that 'pureed' diet for about a week and then I can start introducing soft food - what he described as baby food type. I have to read what he meant. Going back to work was the best thing I could have done - I was so busy I didn't have time to think about hunger or food. (I work in Public Relations for a hospital-desk job). I'm healing well and if the sterii-strips don't fall off by Saturday, he said to just take them off. I am so happy that I have started on this journey...BTW - I cheated and my family had a pizza and there was a little piece of burnt cheese left on the pan - I picked at it and got a piece about the size of dime and chewed and chewed and chewed .....it was delightful!
