Dumping Syndrome from drinking too quickly?
Sjane posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never imagined this could be an issue. I drank 16 oz of water in a hour (trying to meet my 80 oz goal). The only thing I had with it was my vitamins. Within minutes of swallowing my last vitamin I was doubled over in the bathroom. And I know its TMI but what came out the other side was still cold. Literally all the water I just drank is gone! Anyone experience this before? -
Warning: This may be TMI Ever since I had surgery, I have had diarrhea . However, this last week has taken a turn for the worst. It has evolved from painless to extremely painful! Often, it will sneak up on me in the form of gut-ripping pain, where I can feel my intestines churning and bubbling. And this goes in intervals throughout the entire day, making it very difficult to carry on with life. It makes me paranoid to go for a walk...because what if I start getting those warning pains while I am away from home, with no bathroom in sight? I usually only get a few minutes to find a restroom once the cramping starts. I am friends with a Registered Dietitian with a specialization in bariatrics, and after a long discussion of what I've been eating....it appears I may have an extreme intollerance to dairy products in any form - even the whey-based Proteins. I have been attempting to consume a variety of whey-based Protein since 3 days post op, and always with the same effect: I can consume 3 or 4 swallows and then my stomach starts to painfully churn. What I did consume sits in my stomach like a brick for a couple of hours and increases in discomfort if I attempt to drink Water or anything else before it clears. And then without fail...the gut-wrenching diarrhea. I did attempt to ingest soy protein on one occassion....similar results, in that I had a TON of gas that walking and Gas-X couldn't control. Probably will not attempt it again any time soon. Since I hit mushies, I have branched out into things like ricotta, cottage cheese, yogurt...with similar results. Dietitian says I should cut out everything even vaguely dairy related for a week and see if my symptoms improve....needless to say, I am bummed! But willing to try anything at this point to not be held hostage by my intestines! Any other recommendations are welcome

How much did you loose on your 2 week pre op diet?
2018Pammy replied to Luzbella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my preop diet on Monday, July 9th. My surgery is Monday, July 23rd. My diet consists of a protein shake for breakfast no more than 160 calories and the same for lunch. Then i have a lean cuisine for dinner. I'll tell you what...a frozen meal never tasted so good. I think i even licked the container! I am down 8 lbs so far. During my rough times I have had a side salad with very little dressing or some string cheese. The most difficult part for me is that i have been really constipated (sorry if that is TMI) My doctor told me to start on a stool softener and that has helped. Good luck on your preop diet. Stay busy if you get hungry and it helps to take your mind off of it. -

Hi sorry if this is TMI ... but just wanted to get some input. I'm 7 months out from sleeve surgery and I've been doing great. The occasional dumping if I eat something I'm Not suppose too.... however suddenly the past 5 days I haven't been able to hold anything down! I think I had food poisoning from some fish I ate the first two days... but it hasn't stopped. Any little thing I eat runs thru me... even water makes me go to the bathroom #2! Anyone been through the same thing or similar?? Any tips?

How long did you take of work?
Who'sThere replied to nellie09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Tuesday, July 7, and I'm a teacher, so luckily, I'm off for the summer. However, I'm in graduate school, and I had to give a presentation on Saturday. I made it to class fine, but by 1:00 I was DONE! I had to leave early (classes are from 8-3), and when I got home, I crashed! After I woke up, I had my first BM since the night after surgery, and I've felt much better since that. So, my point to this TMI is that if you are functioning normally otherwise, you will probably be okay. If I had to go back to class today, I'm sure I could make it the entire time. Each person is different though, so just listen to your body and don't be harder on yourself than you have to be. -
Just wondering if anyone on here had a catheter in after surgery. May be a little TMI, but I'm just curious if anyone experienced what's going on with me. I had the catheter in for almost 24 hours before it was removed. Since the removal I have been able to go but I just don't feel the urge to go. My liquid pre-op had me going all day but now it's not like that. Anyone else have this issue?

I am pissed ,too. Seriously, what happened? What happened to people? The people in the middle east? Here in US? The corruption in the government? TMI on social media? So on and so on.......like someone said Love will conquer hate. It has to start now. Those of you who have young children, turn off the tv and they will play on their own, books and fun activities. These innocent kids do not need to know what is happening out there! Lots of prayers !! Have a good day ????

Dumping after eating
DizzyLizzy replied to LynnFromCT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to have really bad loose stools pre-band, but I think that was because I was taking 2 1/2 Metformin (for insulin resistance) a day...it would always happen about 3 hours after I took it and it didn't matter when. Tried taking it before bed and would wake up in the middle of the night nauseated then a mad dash to the bathroom...pure liquid! (TMI, right!) And if I took it during the day I would have to go several times during the day! But when I started my liquid pre-op diet, they reduced me down to 1 pill a day and and post band 1/2 a pill a day. Then I got constipated really badly like I used to before I started taking Metoformin. Would only have a bowel movement twice a week and then it would hurt sometimes. And I started feeling "weighed down" so I upped it back to 1 pill a day last week and am now going regularly like normal folks. So, if you're on any type of medications, your change in eating, weightloss, etc, could be affecting how the medication is processing. And if you're not on meds, it just could be your body getting used to everything. I hope it gets better for you..I know having the runs is no fun!!! -

@@laguerr13 It is amazing how everyone's surgery program is different. After my surgery I was told I could have fruit juice (Apple Juice and Cranberry) they even gave it to me in the hospital however, I had to dilute it with Water.(I am 7 weeks out). So at the time, I would do 2-6oz of juice and dilute the other 1/2 with water and I was fine. I also had juice during my liquid stage diluted with water so that your not consuming so much sugar. Now I am 7 weeks out my NUT said that it was ok to have 4 oz of juice if I wanted before Breakfast but just not consume it everyday. You mentioned "feeling regular" did you know that benefiber has packs made for water bottles? I add crystal light and benefiber to my water daily and it keeps me regular(TMI I know but trying to help). Thanks!

Well, the title says it all. I am 4 1/2 months out and for 3 days the toilet bowl has been full of blood. I am not struggling to poop and I don't know if it's related to my sleeve or not...?

Anna - i am three weeks and two days out - mushies aren't any better trust me. I drink chicken broth all the time. I think it helps with some kind of craving. Don't ask me what it is but i feel a boost of energy and its warm and goes down so easy i swear to you i could drink it all day. The only thing the mushies have done for me is make me constipated. So talk about no weight loss in the last few days, well your lookin at it. I almost feel better just drinking warm fluids then eating when i am backed up (TMI sorry). Just do what you can - i am in the same boat - but love my chicken broth. Try it it might help and its 3 grams of protein a cup so its some protein. good luck carmy

cross fit eating before and after - help
tallysfunny replied to Fiddleman's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I just did the "Dirty Thirty" today. It's only my second day back to Crossfit since having my gallbladder out 16 days ago. I'm struggling on what to eat before and after. I think I need more before and I have a good handle on the after I think. I eat strawberries and almonds before. Protein shake after with several grams of glutamine powder for recovery. Soon after I eat protein and veggie. Then a Soup made with onions, peppers, tomato and ground turkey. Greek yogurt with Protein Powder and then dinner is protein and veggie. And I'm drinking home brewed unsweetened caffeine free green tea. I can't even sit down on the toilet (not too much TMI, other cross fitters get it)! -
Feel like I was kicked in the stomach
MonieLynnPgh posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys. I was sleeved on 3/13. I have been doing great and yesterday was advanced to phase 2. I had 2tbsp of greek yogurt for breakfast with 2tbsp of baby oatmeal (yuck). For lunch I had 1 tbsp of cottage cheese mashed and 1 tbsp of pureed peaches which I couldnt stand so didnt eat all of it. For dinner I had 2 tbsp of mashed tuna fish and maybe 1tsp of green beans. I held everything down and felt great. This morning I woke up and feel like someone kicked me in my upper abdomen and I have pain in my right kidney. Ive been drinking about 1 liter of water a day plus the clear fluid. (Yesterday plus the food). I still am able to drink today. Im not having any nausea or upper shoulder pain and I am still peeing and moving bowels ok. (Sorry if tmi). What could be wrong? I called the surgeon today but never received a call back. The only things I can think of is 1. My daughter (31lbs) is having nightmares and I had to pick her up 2 nights in a row) 2. My other daughter (19lbs) I had to pick up because my oldest daughter fell on her 2 days ago. 3. 2 nights ago I took a pretty large gulp of water not realizing and it was a teeny bit painful. 4. I also started my vitamin regimen. Sorry for the long winded post. Im just giving as much info as possible so I can hopefully get some answers. -
Stomache pain when eating
HealthyRN replied to volsfan82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 10/13 also and if I take to big of a sip of anything I also get that pressure and pain. I am on full liquids so no beans or yogurt for me. I did drink my 4 ounce protein share with non fat fairfit milk and have had chest pain and gurgling intestines..... Then with in 20 minutes diarrhea. Sorry probably TMI but that is what is happening to me. -
I was sleeved 10/22/12. My starting weight was 285lbs day of surgery. Now, almost a year later I am only down 70lbs. I know that it is not horrible weight loss but, my goal was -100lbs for my one year post op weigh in. I feel like a complete failure. I also feel like some of the side effects that my doctor had told me would happen (loss of appetite/feeling full quicker) have never happened with me. I do get full but only after I've already eaten almost double what I should have. I've never had a loss of appetite... infact sometimes I feel uncontrollable hunger and after eating a meal, I will continue to eat after the fullness sensation has worn off (usually 1 hour after) Sometimes after I eat I do feel extremely nauseous, weak and sometimes even get a little sweaty and have to immediately lay down. ((CAUTION TMI)) During these moments of agony I always need to run to the bathroom and have a painful, foul smelling loose bm. I have been treated for anemia and b12 deficiency the past month and still feel very depressed and fatigued. I have ZERO energy and almost feel like I'm giving up sub consciously... I haven't lost more than 10lbs in the past 5 months. I am feeling so down and depressed. This is a vicious cycle that is so hard to overcome. Food addiction-> slow progress-> depression-> lack of energy-> back to food addiction. I hope I can snap out of this. I still have -40 lbs to lose until I will be satisfied.

Hey everyone I had my surgery last week and my drain removed yesterday. I've noticed today that I have (sorry if it is TMI...) a rash that has popped up around where the bandages were (about half are gone now). It is red and itchy (almost a burning sensation) and very irritated. Normally when I have come in contact with medical tape before my skin gets red but it goes away very quickly. Not this time. It is definitely from the tape and not an infection because it is in the shape of the tape and I have no other signs of infection. I am worried about the one near my belly button because the surgical tape that covered the incision came off today, and the rash is very close to it and I don't want to do anything to cause an infection. If it doesn't get better I am definitely going to call my surgeon's office, but in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions to help treat this at home? I took a shower today and used some of the pre-op wash I was given (it says right on it that it can be used and all of my incisions are closed) and then I made sure that all of the adhesive was off of my skin. On one of the spots I tried using a little bit of benadryl cream, but it didn't help. Any suggestions would be great Thanks!

Ok, sorry if this is TMI, but I have got to talk about it! My BMs after surgery hurt!!! Due to the smaller amount of veggies/fiber I am eating I think is causing me to have harder BMs. What should I take to help this problem? I drink lots of Water already. I can't live like this anymore! I dread going bc it hurts!! I have been dealing with it off and on for 2.5 months now. J Banded 9/22

5 Months Out. Need Advice.
Queen of Crop replied to kaseyTN's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This has happened to me as well, twice....once was right after being sleeved and they had to give me antibiotics, and one a year later. This might be TMI, but I know how I got mine so I will share.....it seems that every grown woman should know this, but I didn't know it until I was in my late 20's. I got them because I didn't wipe myself properly (from front to back). The first one was in the hospital and I had to drink the stuff that makes you clean yourself out, so it was a little messy and most likely some of the feces got into my UI tract. The second one was after I had had some diareahea so again, you have to be very careful. They are so so painful. Anyway, ladies, always wipe from front to back only and if you are having a loose bowel, you must be extra careful. -
Hi guys, I need your help. I was banded on 01/15. I have been doing great so far. Even with no fills yet, I've had great self control and lost 13lbs post op so far. Here's the problem... Heads up!! I know this is TMI but I don't know who to ask, so I apologize. All of a sudden, last night I had terrible stomach cramps which lead to diarrhea. I hadn't had any stomach issues since originally banded. Today when I woke up I had some serious nausea. But never threw up. I've had stomach cramps and the runs all day long. So bad that I couldn't even work today. I still never vomited but my stomach cramps and nausea are unbearable. The pains are very similar to the pains I had when first banded. I know that was the recovery period so I'm not sure what is causing it now. Since this problem has lasted about 24 hours now, I'm starting to worry there is something wrong. What are the signs or slippage or erosion? I've never felt this way before so it makes me think it is related to the band. Any thoughts?
