    A normal day of food post op?

    I started my weight loss journey on 2/27/19.....my surgery was postponed due to the pandemic. Somehow I managed to lose 70 pounds before surgery. 1200 calories per day, exercise and working out with trainer. Since the surgery on 8/10, I have lost an additional 53 pounds. Very happy with my progress but I too am an overeater. I will have to watch what I eat for the rest of my life. I will also have to measure because I can overeat blueberries. So I make sure not to eat more than 4 to 5 ounces per meal. To my surprise, I am not hungry 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾.
  2. The intenser the better for me! Though the very concentrated ginger tea yield from the first boil is too strong without some major diluting. I took a tiny sip out of the pot and my throat was spice-burning for like 10 mins. That syrup though! #yum
  3. Sooooo....my surgeon did not have a time requirement to being at a stable weight prior to surgery. He did say though that LOSING “alot” of weight would affect the results more than GAINING “alot” weight. He explained that that scar tissue does not stretch as well as regular skin, and is even worse at shrinking. He said I should be prepared for this especially since I tend to scar badly historically (keloid and hypertrophic scarring). His example of “alot” was either losing 10-15 lbs OR gaining 20-30...but these numbers were for MY frame (I was 5’2” and 127 lbs at the time of consult), others with different body types would have different numbers. Had my consult at 7 months post WLS, and would have done the plastics immediately, but he was booked 6+ months ahead. I lost another 12 lbs by the time my surgery date came about. I am now almost a year from plastics now and my weight has been pretty much stable since I had them done (I dropped as low as 6 lbs below PS surgery date weight, i and reached as high as 6 lbs above during this time period. Today I am +2 lbs from plastics surgery date weight).

    Am I losing too slowly?

    Heads up, it will be up and down. 12-14 a month is actually pretty high! depending on your starting weight etc, you can’t realistically expect that every month. Granted some people do shed weight at a fast clip but that seems like the exception vs the rule. (I’m looking at you @ms.sss ) lol I was a “slow loser”. I just looked up my history. I was 204 on my surgery date 8/13/18 and 188.6 10/01/18. I was down 16 pounds after 48 days. Looking back at my tracking, I stopped weighing myself for 2 weeks! I don’t remember doing this, but I’m sure I took a break because it was driving me nuts. Just like you I was eating 500-600 calories a day, it just came off slower than I had hoped or expected. I had a few months when I only lost a few pounds! A good month for me was 6-8 lbs. I’m a stubborn person, it just made me dig my heels in harder and I got to my goal weight by a year and surpassed it a few months later. I never cheated, I wanted this too much to fail. I did get frustrated but I got there. This is my long winded way of letting you know to keep your expectations realistic. Even on 500-800 calories a day and doing everything “right” you can lose slowly. Our metabolisms defy logic sometimes! You will lose the weight, just might not be in a timeframe you’re hoping for. You got this, good luck. I think the show 600 lb life messes with our expectations.

    you're starting out at a much lower weight than most WLS patients, so your rate of loss is likely to be pretty slow in comparison. 12-14 pounds a month is a pretty rapid rate of loss. Maybe not for the first month, but afterward, that would be on the high side. I started out at almost 400 lbs, and after the first month, I was losing 10-12 lbs a month (for about the first 6-7 months, then it got much lower). So just an FYI..

    Done, Wrong. Now wait to submit to insurance 9 people ahead of me.

    My doctors office said it would be up to two weeks for insurance approval. It was 10 or 12 days, but that was all my md office submitting it. Actual turnaround time from insurance was next day. Kinda annoying, but oh well.
  7. Also I would like to add I did surgery on 10/15 and I can tolerate Chicken, Ground beef, lamb chop, ribs, turkey and I’ve only had for fish mahi-mahi. I can not hold down tuna, salmon. Have to remember to eat super slow if not I get that mucus in the back of my throat and 🤮 this also happen if I take large bites.
  8. I am experiencing the same thing and am just 10 days behind you as far as surgery date. I had really bad dumping on Thanksgiving (I had a tablespoon of whipped cream against my better judgement) and things have not been "right" since then. My clinic said to keep watching things and go back to purees for a few days to see if that helps. So far... eh. I have also had zero appetite since the dumping, so I'm mostly just focusing on getting my protein in.
  9. Have you made any decisions on what you're going to do yet? Like you I had a lapband in 2010, I am having revision surgery to a bypass in January....I am heavier now than I was before I even got my band. 😬 I had a consultation with my surgeon - he said he doesn't recommend sleeve revisions from a lapband, so that is why we went with the bypass. The lapband and bypass work in different ways, so you won't necessarily be in the same boat 10 years down the line....but I absolutely understand your worries. As for recommendations, I'm having mine done with Healthier Weight. The surgeon (Rishi Singhal) who specializes in revision surgery is based in Birmingham so I'm having to travel up there from London but I'm happy with his experience and level of expertise in revision surgery. I found out about him after seeing him on the news having done a very large ladies bypass - BBC Midlands Today interview Rishi Singhal about weight loss surgery and NHS funding - YouTube Good luck with whatever you decide!

    Any December surgery

    So I had my final consult before the pre-operation consult. She wants me to lose a little more weight than I have because I have a fatty liver. I also have one more test that fell through the cracks on the ordering side, so hopefully I can get that done swiftly. Then they will be submitting to insurance, which I was told our insurance will be 7-10 business days for a turn around response. It’s still possible I could have my surgery in late December, but it might be January. Fingers crossed!

    18months post op- weight loss??

    Hi. I've only been losing about 3lb per month since 10 months post op. Then I stopped losing for 3 months then it started again but I can go 3 weeks and not lose anything then suddenly on week 4 I will lost 3lb. Like you say it takes forever. I am sticking to the protein but wasn't told anything about water and I know I don't drink enough. I only have between 600-800 calories a day anyway so don't think I should cut down more???

    Anyone for October 2020?

    So I missed last week's update, but wanted to talk a little about my progress heading into week 7. Good news is I can tolerate eating just about anything. I've stayed away from raw veggies and steak until next week, but have tolerated ground beef and chicken without issue. Bad news is with the addition of the real food I also found I can tolerate all the snack foods also as long as I stay in moderation. The result has been a weight loss stall and I am stuck at 258. Really I'm not all that disappointed as I am down two pant sizes and wearing clothes I haven't worn in 10 years (yes, sad that I still have them). I am going to have to get my eating under control and I'm hoping the addition of fresh veggies will help me be more disciplined. I'm up to about a half cup in serving size and found if I wait a couple of hours I can tolerate more. Again, not sure that is a good or bad thing. I haven't really started an exercise routine yet as I have been working on some other projects that keep me active, but definitely need to soon as I feel like I have lost a good amount of muscle mass. It wasn't really unexpected, but just interesting to see. Next week opens up to all foods, all types, so it should be interesting. I'm hoping with the smaller portions that I will still lose. I'm never expected to see the rapid weight loss all the way to my goal, so trying to stay focused on the good behaviors which have suffered over the holiday.

    Ok I have been busting my ass Since June of 2019 to get healthy - So for you starting out there is a end to the journey where you can have a little pleasure in life. So yesterday Kids came in with a surprise for me. They no I was a fast food junky! I must have eaten a 100 of these over the years. So I looked at it and new i was going to pay for this big time. Cut it in half and over 45 minutes got it down, It was good but I realize now you can enjoy food or you can abuse it. Other half went to my lab who has worked out with my this whole journey .

    Don't have a lot of information about you, it would be helpful if you filled in your profile...hightest weight, surgery day weight, current weight, height...all this gives context to your post and helps us to tailor a response to you. So if I understand correctly its been about four days since you have lost scale weight, but in the 10 days before that you've lost 13lb??? That's great and above average for the stage you are at. There will be weight loss stalls along the way, one of the major ones is the three week stall (though for some this can happen before three weeks and for others well after). Please take the time to fill in your details.
  16. Hi. I'm 14 days after WLS. Have lost 13 lbs in last 10 days. But somehow I'm stuck now. Still on the full liquid diet, try to count my calories but still got the feeling I'm not loosing anymore weight. Anyone with same problem? Would love to read your experience.     3 week stall

    Stalls do unfortunately happen. I've had so many in my 10 months since my surgery that I've actually lost count! My last one was just a few days ago and lasted 15 days, but I DID drop 3 pounds which ended that stall. Your body is just re-adjusting itself and that takes time. It'll pass!

    K, not sure what is in YOUR vitamins, and how you are taking them, but: Iron tends to cause upset stomach. If your multis have iron in them, consider finding one that has a lower amount. Taking certain types of calcium tablets will cause upset stomach if you don't have anything in there...if this may be the cause, you can try taking them after you eat....or during. (I used to take my morning calcium with a tsp of greek yogurt...did the trick.) I started taking calcium chews midway through weight loss phase...goes down just fine on an empty stomach AND delicious, lol. They are about 10 cals each, though.

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

    I’m stalled too so no worries! I blame the pumpkin pie... lol jk. Even with thanksgiving I haven’t gone up or down at all in quite some time. My NUT said the same thing as well as Lisa’s PA. Just need to stick with healthy eating, exercise, and calorie tracking and it will move eventually I’m sure. I’m 10 pounds to goal also but I’m shooting for 20 more which would put me at 140. Even if I didn’t lose anymore weight I still find the habits and eating style/amount I have now are very sustainable (I treat myself as well) Good luck and just keep going!!

    Generally surgeons will tell you to hold off on alcohol consumption for 6months to a year. I'm 10 months post op and haven't touched alcohol since long before my surgery (haven't had alcohol in about two years).

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

    @mchldck I have also been stalled for weeks. I had a tele-doc appointment today, and the PA said around 10 months out there is often a stall, although this started at 8 months. He also said after the rapid weight loss (I have lost 80 pounds) it is normal for your body to slow down. I asked him if it meant I was done, and he said emphatically "no", unless I fall off the good practices I have been (mostly😏) following. He said it may go to 2 to 3 pounds a month, which will feel unbearably slow, but to keep with it. I have 20 pounds to goal, and he reminded me that OVER shooting goal is a good thing, since most people put back on 10 pounds or so. Honestly, if I am done now I would be ok with it, but I also know I am eating low enough calories and carbs that I should still be losing weight, so I'm going to try to stick to plan and see where it goes. But it is discouraging when that scale doesn't budge, or bounces back and forth at the same weight range.

    Fallen off track

    Hello my Kentucky friend. I'm in Louisville and like you, I had my WLS 2 years ago and like you I suffer from anxiety and depression. I had a really hard time in March/April of this year and was suicidal for the first time ever and I was eating TONS and TONS of chocolate. I gained 10-12 pounds. But I stayed the course with my meds and kept seeing my therapist every 3 weeks and it's slowly helped. I started back on track 30 days ago and am losing weight again and have a better out look on life. Depression is real. It's tough. Hang in there. Don't give up what you worked so hard to get in the first place (weight loss) and try to focus on that when times are tough.
  24. Yep, totally normal. My surgeon gave me a goal of 60-70 grams of protein and 50-60 ounces of liquids post-op, and I found I could drink about half that. Luckily protein shakes, sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free Jello, etc. all count towards liquid goals. When I had my 10-day post-op appointment with my surgeon, he said it was fine that I wasn't able to meet those goals right away. He also confirmed that I could have just the broth out of low-sodium soups (stock alone was bland to me), so I'd have a mug of that once a day and it felt wonderful; there aren't many savory options in the liquid stage. You'll work up to being able to meet the goals in a matter of weeks.

    Wow Just hit me as a guy we are not that concerned about the little things but I am getting pissed off at how body is changing. I can hold the weight but eithor I am nutz or my body is moving around Arms are now small and legs small but I have not lost a pound in 10 Months? I also love buying stuff now. Need Amazon re Hab. But Finishing again BEST f@#CKIN DECISION I EVER MADE
