    Week 5: May 27-31st Sleevers

Pre op weight 189 Op day weight 5/31 183 Current weight 163 A week from today I start solids! So excited, I miss chewing food ! But I am scared as well. Afraid of food intolerances, weight gain, and if eating solid Protein will be enough to meet my protein requirements daily- and if not what are easy ways to make that up
  2. So I was wondering if anyone experienced weight gain right after having plastic surgery? I had a tummy tuck, arm lift, breast lift and augmentation last Tuesday and went from 113lbs to 129lbs. It's kinda freaking me out!!

    Tamoxifen and Sleeves

side effects and how it may impact my results @@optimumhealthgurl i'm a 15 yr survivor breast cancer survivor i never took tamoxifen, but i hear its great didn't know it "helped" in "possible" weight gain sorry to give you the old standard comment, butttttt... talk to your oncologist - he's the one that would know then again maybe bariatric surgeon would know, since if it "might" effect the sleeve i don't "think" theres a prob since all your docs are "on board" always always listen to people listen to "great replies/answer from the board but listen to the great/effective comments from the surgeon first and last!!! good luck speedy recovery kathy

    Tamoxifen and Sleeves

Hello Ladies, I'm a breast cancer survivor and have been on tamoxifen for just a little over a year. My entire medical team is on board with me having the surgery and my scheduled date is July 2. I'll resume tamoxifen two weeks post op and am curious about some of the side effects and how it may impact my results i.e., tamoxifen causes weight gain; that metallic taste that you get when you first start taking it, does it worsen with weight loss surgery, etc. I'd appreciate anyone sharing their experience. Thanks so much!

June 9th Sleeve - Looking for friends!

Thank you MommaCEO for the 200 lb. issue. Maybe that is my problem. I'm at 202 right now and holding steady. Although for a fleeting moment, I was 200.9. That was such a great day......... Yes, the stall is still here. No weight loss in 12 days except for a 1 pound weight GAIN. Lots of others have experienced the same thing, from what I'm reading. And from what I see, the stall can last a week or two. Here is an article I found while obsessively looking for others who have stalled. I thought this was interesting... http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html#.U7FAqBYvvHj Okay ladies (any men following this? I dunno) it's Monday! Let's all get on here and tell everyone our progress! I would love to hear from you!
  6. I actually have heard of people coming home from Mexico with no sleeve. You'll have to get a scope to find out what's going on with your stomach. I continue to battle my addiction to sweets every single day. Right now I am up 4 lbs from my goal weight and I know if i don't take it off, it will be 15 again. People tend to think once you're sleeved, you don't have to battle your weight ever again. That is only true for the first few months when we can barely eat. It's a life long struggle to eat right and know that extra treats will cause weight gain. I keep them out of the house, but I have such little willpower when anyone offers me junk I know I shouldn't have.

    Fluid retention postop

Dr told me not to weigh for a big. A weight gain is expected from surgery and fluids. One week out I am losing weight now.
  8. Has anyone noticed weight gain while using symbacort?
  9. Yes, there is a whole lot of ignorance and judgemental thinking out there. Several years ago, a business colleague who I had never met ftf blamed gastric surgery for the runaway cost of health care in the US! Really? This is an off-shoot of the prejudice that exists against heavy people. Many people think that being overweight is because you're lazy and sit around eating too much. The medical field is now beginning to realize that there are many factors involved with weight gain - and that it is not so simple as people think. I told my favorite cousin about the surgery and I now realize it was a mistake as even she seems to have these feelings - I haven't heard from her since I told her my news - no emails, phone calls, nothing...I don't get it! But we will be consoled later when we are so much thinner that all these issues will be completely unimportant!
  10. Today I had my weekly weigh-in and I have gained 0.2 lbs. This has been my first gain since surgery in Jan. I have lost 81 lbs and I should not be so upset about this. 81 lbs is huge! So, why does this hurt so bad. A lot of questions are running through my head. What did I do wrong? Have I hit my limit; never loose again? I know it seems silly, but I could really use some encouragement right about now.Weight Gain Panic Today I had my weekly weigh-in and I have gained 0.2 lbs. 11. Your doctor is right. Stalls are normal and it will pass. BTW, stress=cortisol=weight gain, so you might want to chill. Just follow your doctor's meal plan and better yet, STAY OFF THE SCALE!

    June Post Ops!

I DID IT!!! I finally broke though to the 120s! So excited this morning to see 129.6! I want to maintain between 128 - 132. I feel like I am there! At six months old I was pulled off formula and put on skim milk due to excessive weight gain. I do not remember a day in my life when I was not trying to lose weight or thinking about how out of control my weight was. I have to say that NOT wanting to lose more weight is really a foreign and kind of scary feeling! I guess it's going to take time to get used to it! Carol

    Old habits?!

I am at my goal. I am having the problem of people close to me telling me to eat more . You are too thin. My doctor tells me I'm healthy. I can maintain by eating nutritious foods and by making smart food choices. As I am able to eat more varieties of food it's becoming more challenging to do that. He said the main thing is to monitor your weight gain within 3-5 pounds. If you start to gain change your food choices. I also have a protein shake in the morning and a protein bar in the afternoon or evening. I'm less likely to over eat when I'm taking my protein . Each person will decide what healthy food choices they want to make . This is not a diet anymore . It's a life style change. I'm trying to erase the dieting from my memory. Diet foods can make you fat. I look for high nutrition value in foods now because I only eat small portions and I feel full fast. I hope to hear from other people maintaining weight loss and anyone who wants to share on this topic. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
  14. Actually, while exercise is good for you on many levels regardless of weight, you don't have to exercise to lose the weight or keep it off, as long as you stick with a very low carb diet. Bring the carbs up and you will have to exercise to combat them. Over 50, many of us find that our tolerance of carbs (in terms of weight gain) becomes worse as time goes on. 53 years old. 10 1/2 months out. Lost 95+ lbs total and 66 lbs post surgery with the sleeve. Been at goal 3 months. Had to take synthroid for thyroid before surgery, but now I am off of it. Normal thyroid after getting the weight off and changing how I eat for good.
  15. The key to your success and happiness is very simple....throw your scale away and dont compare yourself to others. If you are following your doctor's plan and your hypothyroidism is being addressed, then sit back and relax. Stress= cortisol = weight gain.
  16. This 'trend' is growing in the international awareness arena. I learned long ago in grad school the physiological reasons "water" itself is far far better than any other Fluid, for our bodily processes. I also observed during my postOp Bandster experience, that plain Water was also very beneficial for a multitude of reasons. This brief article http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/drink-water-to-cut-obesity-health-experts-say-9562887.html gives a few point worth knowing about. They talk about the risk of weight gain using sugary drinks. I for one, suffered a host of adverse metabolic effects from the high-fructose corn syrup concoctions marketed during the 60s/70s/ before I started rational observation of the consequences of such intake.

    Birth control after sleeve

I really like the Ortholo as I have been on it for years with great results, I had tried Yaz (if I'm not mistaken that's the brand for Gianvi) in the past and had horrible side effects so I prefer to stay in ortho low but I'm just worried about having unnecessary weight gain from it.... So I guess it's not like a written rule that you gain weight from it but I guess everybody's individual. I just feel like I've been through so much and tried so hard that to counteract it right now would just be silly.... I did get my period Once one week after surgery, and that was it, in the past I have never gotten that before without the pills....

    Birth control after sleeve

I have PCOS as well, and 8 weeks out, down 54 pounds. I've been taking Giovanni for years for PMDD due to PCOS. Weight gain has not been an issue. Can you switch meds?

    Why is food ALWAYS involved?!

I can relate to this like nobody's business!!! Right now, as I sit at my desk, there is a table less than 8 feet from me. On that table are Doritos, Cheetos, Potato chips, pretzels, Chex Mix, Munchos, Pub Mix, peanuts, mixed nuts, Fudge Strip Cookies, Russell Stover candies and various other candies. And the table is not as stocked as it usually is!!! Every other Wednesday is "square donut day". And occasionally vendors will drop in with goodies. To top all that off, our new company president wants to have company cook outs every other week during the summer which started last week. Since it was a pot luck event I brought in greek quinoa salad. It was delish, but needless to say my healthy offerings don't go over that well around here. ( so I have a ton of it to take home) I ate a cheeseburger w/ no bun, some cheese cubes and the quinoa. But later on I was over come with temptation and had some cake. Ugh! It is hard to spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week being confronted at every turn by your worst demon. If self control was not a problem for me I would not have been obese or needed the surgery, right? I can control what I bring into my house, but I have no control at work. ( where I spend the greater part of my week days) It is beyond frustrating because so many people have complained about weight gain and poor health here, yet the snack table lives on!!! Do they really not get it?
  20. Week 10 no weight loss. Week 11 I had a 6 pound weigh loss. Week 12 I gained 2 pounds. I do not understand. My eating has not changed and I am working out more. Is this normal?
  21. Yeah even the people I know supporting the program, after a couple of years, what is the point in going back? Pay extra money and only have a couple or one day open to me, I may or may not see the surgeon, and if it is a COE, I have to wonder that it isn't for their ASMBS records. They do nothing for those who are farther out having weight gain except to say pay more $$$ to join their non surgery weight loss program. Then there are other places you can go and compare what you get. I've seen the surgeries and done the investigation: what a racket. I'm getting ready to do a blog post. The surgeon's office I had? They asked for people to give them recipes that they'll publish and SELL a book for. Now why would I want to give my recipes up for free so THEY can make $$ off of it and possibly have the copyright too? Who's making $$$ off me? Is this how you want to be treated by your surgeon's office?
  22. At a little over two weeks out my doc has started me on some foods (very soft). I weighed today and showed a 2lb gain. What the heck??? Is this normal? What could I be doing wrong? Also my BMs stay fairly liquidy. Can anyone relate?
  23. Sleeved on May 7 so I'm almost 2 months out and have gained 6 pounds in the last week. I'm freaking out!! Is this normal?
  24. I have to be honest here and say that I hate when people type obvious questions with obvious responses and expect a different outcome when you get them. So, I may hate myself later for posting this question. But truly, is it just me or is it normal, screw normal, is it our responsibility post weight loss surgery to think about weight (gaining and losing) and what we put in our mouths every second of everyday, because I do; or do I just need therapy? I honestly think about it all day long. I worry that if I eat this I can only consume this much later or if I run this far I can have more of this, etc. I am also one of those people that weighs everyday. I know, I know, we aren't supposed to do that; however, it keeps me honest. It is my accountability tool. Therapy vs responsibility.....which one?
  25. I agree with everyone else that has posted on this topic. I would be a real mess as big or bigger than I was almost three years ago and certainly no where near as healthy,. Sure, I have had issues. Band slippage, vomiting blood, emergency surgery to remove the band - yep- bad news..but I have lost 120+ pounds and that is an ENTIRE PERSON. Rene's said she couldn't lift the 50 pounds she lost - try 120 pounds LOL - not happening..Since my revision surgery (4/25/14) I have had issues..healing is slow, weight gain (up 12 pounds) and in general blah..but I would have WLS all over again in a minute. It has given me a new life. I can play with my grandchildren, I am running 5K's (at 63 yrs old) and I work 50+ hours per week. No more shortness of breath, pre-diabetes, HBP..Life is so much better. I need to now get my head, my heart and my stomach all on the same page and get back to being the WL queen again and move on with my bandless life. I love the person I have become and I know that because of this surgery I have added years to my life. Melinda in Florida
