    Gas pain recommendations!

The surgical gas is in your abdominal cavity not in your digestive system (not inside your tummy or intestines). Burping, farting & gas X won’t work. The gas rises & sits behind your lungs putting pressure on nerves causing the upper body & shoulder pain. It is absorbed into your lungs where it breathed out. Walking, marching on the spot, pumping your arms up & down forces the gas up & out (because you breath more heavily with the physical activity). Slow & deep breathing exercises can help too. It usually takes about a week for it to fully dissipate
  2. Love that you can have any/all non starchy veggies. Sounds like it isn’t much but it really is! For the shakes, I treated them like mini meals.. At breakfast, I made a coffee shake using latte flavored protein shakes and sipped slow. At lunch, I made a peanut butter banana chocolate milk shake with banana extract, a chocolate protein shake and PB2 peanut butter powder. For dinner, have a protein shake and some fajita seasoned sautéed veggies. For a snack, try having a strawberry banana shake (Fairlife) blended with ice. I was really afraid of the 2-week diet, but it flew by. The key is to keep it interesting. Have cauliflower “rice” with veggies, for example. My biggest worry was the doctor opening me up, seeing my liver covered in fat, then closing me up and saying “nope.” It happened to others on these forums, so the fear kept me in line. It was also a great prep experience for the weeks after surgery when you can only have liquids. Hope some of this is helpful

    Sleeve revision to MGB

First off: the rate of weight loss isn't dependent on the type of surgery. Folks who've had a MGB/Omega Loop on here have lost quickly, and I was one who lost slowly. It's the same for all surgeries. Rate of loss depends on other factors, and honestly it's fine if it's slow. I still hit goal and am now below, so the end results is what matters. I don't know where the MGB gives minimal loss comes from? I've lost 100% of my excess weight, and by kilograms, I'm half my original size. I absolutely don't regret opting for the MGB over the Sleeve. Took about fourteen months to reach goal, at a pretty steady clip. I was someone who stalled frequently, so it took patience and staying off the scale for a lot of it. But again - this is just me. No real complications beyond a tendency to develop ulcers, but I had raging GERD pre-surgery, and have a bile pool in the bottom of my new stomach, so there's specific me-related stuff going on that isn't necessarily to do with the surgery. I have issues with digestion and my liver misbehaving that pre-date my surgery. No dumping. I do get mild foamies, but they're a minor inconvenience versus proper full-tilt foamies others get. The restriction is excellent, and my labs are all consistently good so my supplement intake is working. I absolutely think it's worth it and couldn't be happier with my choice.
  4. I’m starting my 2 week liquid diet on 4/12 and feeling unsure I’ll be able to manage it. My RNY is 4/26 and the nutritionist is allowing me any and all non-starchy vegetables but dear lord…will bone broth and protein shakes hold down the beast within?? I’ve lost about 13 lbs since January with just very clean high protein eating. HW- 276 CW- 263 and 5’8”. Why do some programs allow lean chicken at dinner and others are so adamant about liquids/purées? Anyone have any tips/tricks to get thru this period? Very excited for this lifestyle turnaround! Thanks in advance for any advice :)
  5. I know the title may sound odd....but hear me out. I'm 5 weeks post op, so just over a month. I don't feel "restriction" as much or as painful as i did initially. I still feel it but i feel like it's not as significant of a feeling as before. Also i feel like I can eat more than i should already without pain. I had a piece of cake the other day at a birthday and felt fine, no dumping syndrome or any issues. That was really surprising to me. Also, I don't have changed taste buds like everyone else seems to (so far). Everything still tastes the same to me! The only thing is i prefer very cold water now and before i was fine with room temperature water. Another thing about water is I feel like I can take like 2 or 3 gulps without any issue. I know you aren't supposed to and before it would hurt a bit but not anymore. I'm still losing weight though. On my date of surgery i was 195 and today I'm 174. I'm just worried that maybe I'm advancing too fast? Anyone else been through this?

    2 weeks post op

How are you feeling two weeks out? Are you back to work now?

    August surgery buddies!

That's awesome ladies, congrats! I'm sitting at 85 lbs down right now. I stall out a lot but try not to beat myself up over it. My weight doesn't go up, so I consider it a win. I'm working out, and eating right and I feel like I have formed a healthy relationship with food & exercise. If you're looking for some at-home workouts I recommend Kayla Itsines' workouts. You can just search them on Pinterest for free and it all can be done at home. I have used this body guide on and off for years and I always have had success with it.
  8. The support group nutritionist said that even though stalls are normal and part of the body adjusting, must stalls after the honey moon phase are due to the amount of protein we are consuming and we should start looking at macros at that point (60-80g protein anything above can become fat, 50-60 carbs net if lifting/HIIT, 30g fat). I have seen members of the group have slow losses around month 6 (less than 6lbs per month) and come back with a 15lb loss the next month. But if you are not loosing at all for 2 months, I will call the Doc and see if they can help you. I know you can send the nutritionist your food log and she can review to see if something can be tweaked.
  9. I had the same issue I lost 87lbs in 3 months started at 323lbs now 5 months out and weighing in at 201lbs. Good news is it has slowed down to about 1-2lbs a week now and some weeks I have started to stall. My team basically told some lose it really fast and others at a more controlled rate but they assured me that it was not too fast. Hope this helps.
  10. I never did get an answer to my calories question… my nutritionist just reiterated that the calories matter less as long as the following are true: - get your 70-90 grams of protein per day no matter what (I am in soft foods stage) - get your 64oz of fluids every day (and I’m allowed to count protein shakes and milk as fluids) - no more than 5g fat per serving - no more than 5g sugar per serving When I watch these rules, I end up with around 700-850 calories per day and I’m steadily losing. If I don’t get enough protein or water, I stall over the next two days. Oddly, I noticed that if I drink artificially sweetened things like Gatorade Zero, I stall out. She said I may be insulin sensitive where my brain sees the fake sweetener as the real thing and releases insulin to counter it. I try to have maybe one of these drinks every two days to get my Miralax in. Not sure if any of this helps but I hope there’s a nugget in here that adds some value 😊
  11. 100 pounds lost is AMAZING! Two weeks post surgery is early on. Be patient. I’m two years out. Trust me, you’ll have tons of NSVs!!!

    Almost to scheduling day

Had the Endoscopy done and everything checks out good. I still want bypass instead of sleeve. We talked very loosely about dates and its a tentative May 17th which is 1 week before when I wanted but it'll still be good. The sooner the better I guess.
  13. Ok, I am at 21 days now, lost 28 pounds. Does this sound too low for the first month?? I am scared of a stall as well. I have another week for a month and was hoping to be down 40 pounds soo we’ll see

    March 23 buddies yet?

Thank you! After doing a bit of digging through the forums, I see the typical "3 week stall" all over the place. I'll just keep on keeping on and look forward to the results! Thanks again for the reassurance and encouragement! Sent from my SM-S918U using BariatricPal mobile app

    SLOWER WEIGHT LOSS

There is no right or wrong rate of weight loss & it fluctuates week to week (or even day to day) as well. There isn’t a timeline in which you must lose your weight. We are all so different physiologically, psychologically & emotionally. We’re different ages, gender, heights & builds. We have different weight loss/gain histories as well as medical histories, health status. If your team is happy with your rate of loss you have nothing to worry about. Celebrate every pound you lose.

    Nausea made better by eating

I’m surprised you haven’t been prescribed any anti nausea meds. Also wonder if it’s a sensitivity to something you’re eating. What if you try sipping a protein shake on your way home to help offset the afternoon nausea. Grazing is fine. Many do graze or eat several smaller meals. It just depends what you’re grazing on & if you’re still keeping to your daily total calorie & portions sizes & meeting all your goals. For example you make an appropriate meal and eat it over two or three sessions.

    No weightloss 1 month PO

As I said above your weight loss is never consistent. If you graph it you’ll notice it zigs & zags. If you weigh every day you may gain one day & lose the next. You’re still losing so it’s not a stall. Most likely just a slower loss period. Stick to your plan & try not to worry about how much you lose each day or over a week (not easy I know). You will lose the weight. There’s no hard & firm date you must lose your weight by. You’ll lose it in your time & that’s fine. if you find how much you lose each day or week is making you anxious or frustrated, some people find it helps to only weigh once a month. As long as you’re making an effort to hit those goals and are close or getting closer you’ll be okay. It took me ages to consistently hit my goals every day & I still reached my goal & even lost more.
  18. Can’t wait for this. I lost 90lbs presurgery and I’m down about 10 more post ( just over 2 weeks). And I feel I should be happy with 100 down, but I’m struggling to find NSVs and this is a big one I’m looking forward to.

    SLOWER WEIGHT LOSS

The first month I lost 30 pounds. Then I hit a stall. Now at 11 months out, I lose around 8-10 pounds per month. But I have more shape and definition in my body, a lot of excess skin, I'm way healthier and stronger, and as long as I don't gain, I'm happy. I've had some complications and I need to have a revision to the bypass, so I assume I'll lose the rest of my weight then. I just do what I can now. But it's normal to hit stalls and slow down losing weight.

    Meal delivery service?

1 Factor meal usually feeds me for lunch and dinner. So a 1 week box really goes far. I work full time, I'm in college full time, and I have a lot of medical crap going on due to complications from my sleeve. In and out of surgeries before I can be cleared for my revision. So for me and what I have going on right now, the Factor 75 meals are perfect.
  21. I wasn't given a calorie goal but I've been up to 1000 calories and walking 1 hour at 2 1/2 weeks. Everything I find on the internet says 300 to 600 calories! Am I eating too much? Ugh...I don't want to mess this up

    Constant pain during work

I am going through a similar thing. I begun volunteering in a charity one day a week. Its very physical for me and entails lots of steps and carrying. I come home drained and aching all over. My calories are low, 1000 to 1200 so I run out of energy quickly and need to eat a protein bar and drink a glass of milk just to get me through. When I get home I collapse on the sofa. I need to build up my muscle mass again. I hope it will get easier in time because I love this little job

What to expect for your preop

You know the game where you guess how many gummies are in the jar ? An infinite number ? That's how many pre op diets there are. TBH I have never come across the same one twice. So its impossible to help with that aspect without knowing what yours is I can say you are lucky, yours only lasts a week. Its going to be tough but we all knew that its to shrink our livers so that they are not in the way when the surgeons operate. That's what kept us all on the straight and narrow. By day 4 you will be used to the regime and will white knuckle it to the end. I spent my time cleaning my house as a distraction. My hubby was so understanding and cooked his own meals and I stayed out of the way while he ate them. We all fear it, its the unknown. Please contact us again when you know more
  24. Hi Helenah, I was like you on this journey where I wanted to see how much I could loose without surgery. I lost 68 lbs before my surgery through the program and medications to help. I did start stalling after that and decided to go for the surgery, however I have about 150 lbs to go to be at my 200 lb goal weight. I just had surgery and will see how quickly I loose. I ended up with the sleeve. Good luck on your journey and do what makes you feel comfortable.

    March 23 buddies yet?

You are doing great! This isn't magic and as you've read many times everyone is different. You are still recovery and you just need to be concerned with following your plan and getting your fluids and then protein. Keep your head up and only weigh once a week. Also remember the lower your BMI the less pounds you are going to loose when comparing yourself (dont) to someone with a much higher BMI. We should be talking about percentages of excess weight instead of pounds/kilos lost. As percentages generally match long term. Increase exercise in small incriminates as you can tolerate and stick to your prescribed diet and you will succeed!
