Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.
Oregondaisy replied to Elisabethsew's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I ate some cream of potato soup and spit out the potatoes.Whatever they made the cream of part out of, I had a really bad reaction. It must be the lactose intolerance people have been talking about. I have been full of gas, and sorry if it's TMI, I have been in the bathroom for hours. I finally remembered to take an anti diarrhea pill. HOnestly, I don't ever remember being this sick. -
Fund raiser??? Don't be silly! We lost a lot, but there's still plenty there. If I told you how much you would laugh at all this ridiculousness! He just won't use it! And I know another factor is that he says he's researched PS on legs on the internet and he read some scarey stories and is convinced it's very dangerous surgery because of risk of blood vessel and nerve damage. So, it's not just the money. I've wanted to buy another car for 2 years! We have ONE car, so if he's off cutting lawn for SIL or flying his RC airplanes, he's gone up to 5-6 hours and I'm stuck. And the car we have is 7 yrs old with 91+ K miles on it.. driven miles. At least another 50K of towed miles that don't show. Yeah, it runs okay. Just put money in to it to fix the emission system, brake job and a new tire... ONE new tire. He was so proud of himself because the tire guy was able to match the spare which is still new and not the pretend tire type... so he only had to buy one tire instead of two. :tt2: And he says we'll reconsider buying a new car at the end of the summer! Yeah, right!:biggrin::biggrin: I WILL get these legs done. Fear not! Just have to back off for a day or two while my emotions settle down. Haven't been able to eat much all week... and that is probably contributing to some extent, but just plain tight this week. DH insists on cooking everything from frozen, and then it ends up getting over cooked. So, had small piece of fish one night that I couldn't finish. Last night, maybe 3 oz piece of pork chop, that was too lean to begin with, and then got over cooked, so I don't know if I even got an ounce of it down. Then good thing I've been keeping a little zip lock bag with paper towels in it next to my chair... TMI.... sliming in to the bag for a while, but nothing else came up. Many hours later I got down a calcium chew and one of those little Jello pudding cups. Haven't been able to drink much all week. My latte every morning, usually, is justified by... need the warm liquid so I can loosen up enough to eat lunch! And yesterday, lunch was a small bowl of chicken noodle (which was really barley) soup at Safeway during my 3 hr cruise around the neighborhood. OH... one of the grocery stores was grilling tri-tip out by the front door, so I had a small piece of that as a chaser an hour or so later.:biggrin::biggrin: It was SO good!

Oh Phyl, I feel for you babe. I know how much your legs bother you... You have got to get that P/S ...there has got to be another one who would take Medicare or Tricare, there just HAS to be... keep looking. But I know if it were MY husband he'd freek at the $10,000 too... You can use the surgery as a Medical deduction on your income taxes right? Maybe that would convince Earl. Get the KNEE surg done now, walking and mobility are the primary issue right?.. Then perhaps you can save the money for PS or have more time to work on Earl. Damn economy, if things hadn't gone in the Sh1tter last Sept. you'd probably been able to take that out of savings.:glare: Perhaps we should think of a fundraiser? WARNING: TMI to follow..... I've been MIA for a few days. I got a bad Stomach/flu bug from a Patient... I was up Thurs night ALL night. Trying to puke but nothing would come up. Band tight. It was a horrible feeling, I was constantly worried about slippage. I prefer to just have the diarhea ... Sorry, TMI ON the up side, I should be down in weight!!! HA,HA... nothing to eat for two days.

Intestinal issues (TMI sorry!)
JayTee562 replied to myturn2bhappy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
TMI!!!!! NEVER!!!!!! LOL I posted on a thread my issue. During my Mushy/Liquid stage I had very little happening back there and some point I felt like a rock (not really feel it but felt a bit of pain like there was one) in my belly and I honestly think I could feel it move through the track if you will had a business lunch at a mexican restureant hd the refried Beans and a day later felt "the rock" go the rest of the way, all the way. Been fine since. Like my turn sorry if TMI but thses are the kind of things that come up with our meal plans. -
I know this is an old post but I learned something about the funny smell of me mixing with my husband last year from my doctor. At my regular appt my doctor told me I had a bacterial infection. I had no symptoms so I had no idea. It turns out I had one symptom I just never put two and two together. After my husband and I made love the next day his semen smelled kind of funny in me, and I noticed that same funny smell when I used soap to wash that area. Come to find out soap changes the Ph of discharge and changing the Ph of a sample of your discharge is how they diagnose the bacterial infection. Now I know if that smell returns or I smell it when using soap I head to the doctor. (Not saying Ebony has this just some TMI info for everyone) Oh and I don't douche but have before. It seems like it takes days after your period to get "clean" again. Ugh.

Me too!! BAM!! Instant erection. Or was that TMI, like the whole valtrex / genital wart fiasco? Yeah! What tap said! I suspect she's off somewhere being awesome....probaly in cahoots with LosingJustMe... Woah! That's quite a career! And PJTP, I recently friended Lulu on facebook. Turns out she's pretty cute for a New York liberal transplant to Texas (I strangely didn't see any warts, so I had to remove mine as well). I'd have never thunk it. Don't tell her though......that would ruin my redneck rep.

All About Me Where do you live? Fort Worth, TX How old are you? 37 Are you married, dating, significant other, partnered? Engaged Any children? Yes, three! 1 girl, 2 boys. Grandchildren? Not yet, and hopefully not for awhile. I'm still busy spoiling my kiddos! Pets? Yes, 1 Puppy and 1 Kitty. Current Health Morbidities? Borderline HBP, lots of knees problems, and thyroid disorder. What are your greatest Fears? Spiders and cockroaches top them all, but related to the lapband, I'm afraid of never waking up after the surgery, and of being in the hospital. What are your weight loss short term goals and Long term goals? Short term, I want to be able to tie my shoes comfortably again! Long term, I want to be STRONG! I want to be able to do an entire class of Kickboxing, hike 20 miles, and lift my son - did I mention he weighs almost 100 lbs?! Also, I want to be small enough that my (soon-to-be) husband will be able to carry me. :tt1: List at least one thing you want to do/wear/eat/buy when you reach your goal? So many things... I want to wear a LITTLE black dress, and dress up in sexy school girl costumes! :w00t: I want to be able to buy clothes from a non-fat girl store! I want to go on vacation somewhere tropical and WEAR A BATHING SUIT! Doesn't even have to be a bikini, as long as I'm not worried about being too fat for the beach. I want to make love in positions I haven't been able to get into in awhile!! Okay, probably TMI, but that's definitely one thing that's got my fiance being so supportive. *laughs* And I want to live long enough to see my kids become adults, and have kids of their own, and enjoy my life without limitation...

I'm not a happy camper. I've been to the bathroom about 10 times since getting to work. This is not fun! I think the refried beans I've been eating for days have made my digestive track go bonkers. I don't think this is a band issue, more of a food tolerance issue. All I know is it's miserable!

Forgot....Happy Belated Anniversary, Julie. Happy to hear that you and hubby had a nice time. Our 30th is in Nov. I swear that time just flew by or someone stole them from us. We still think the other is just adorable and (tmi) can't keep our hands off each other. But, we are not that couple that is out in public that needs to get a room.

Candy so glad to hear from you. I know, I know, I know..........the first week I wasn't sure I wanted a band anymore, but there it was inside of me already!! I didn't enjoy that first week at all. Once I got to full liqiuds things got better faster. I started to feel better. Everyday gets better and better. Hard to see it now but at 3 weeks out I am 1000% better.................everyday was a huge improvement for me. It gets easier and easier!! My period also came early and lasted twice as long. Most painful and annoying period I have had. But it got me thinking about what Liz said about fertility going sky high once you lose some weight..............My period has never been regular and never lasted more than 1 1/2 days...............I had my period for 8 days.............ah no thank you..........that has not happened since I was in my teens. I am sure it has something to do with my weight loss and and surgery...............interesting...(TMI I know, I know but we all know each other pretty well now!!)

Why do women have anal sex?
drkangel101 replied to Oregondaisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok I am going to be the brave one...lol I have done this with my husband a few times and yes if you have some stimulation on the clitoris while he is in there you do get a very pleasurable orgasm, if you let him go in the front while you are on your back it is less painful and when you use lubes and stuff you have nothing to worry about as far as poop nothing oes on your hands or anything else ..oh lord way to much TMI .but I feel I should share my knowledge...lol This not something you should do all the time like I said we have been together 61/2 years and have done it a couple times so its not an everyday thing ..lol just when you hit the experimenting mode.... ok that was enough braveness for me.... -
Stabbing pain in the left shoulder - yes yes yes - it's horrible! Up into my neck sometimes - I'll be happy when that's finally gone! I guess I don't know 100% that I had an issue with things getting stuck, but I assumed because a. i shoveled 2 big spoon fulls of carrots/chicken/celery into my yap b. i chewed the 'old' way - meaning, very little, and c. about a half second after it went down I thought I was having a heart attack! So I just went ahead and assumed that's what it was, but I suppose it could be lingering gas as well. Either way, it SUCKED!! Now, the feeling is almost gone, but once in awhile, it almost feels like something is bobbing up and down from between me boobs up to the base of me throat, which makes me think something's in there. Again - may be gas - I dunno! I have to say though, I'm certainly still not comfortable moving on. I've been having soup exclusively the last 2 days, and even then as soon as I have a bit too much I seem to feel it. I don't know for sure that that's from restriction, more likely from swelling/surgery related things, and perhaps gas. (I REALLY HATE THE GAS THING!!) I've been walking around most of the day, sipping Water, and have done rocking in a rocking chair (I read that helps) and still in a great deal of gas pain, so I hope soon it passes. It's hard to feel up to doing anything when there's a constant pain in my neck (not even my husband for once! LOL) I will think of getting some Gas x - I also read somewhere about it being a bit better once you start having some BM's and I've been in the bathroom all day with those (Sorry TMI - but it's FANTASTIC! LOL) so hopefully I will see some improvement soon! thanks for the reply! k.

New notorious novembers weightloss spreadsheet
Tristessa replied to sistasassy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a fill, went back six weeks later to find out that my band was empty, got filled to 1.8ccs (4cc band) and ended up being way too tight so got defilled to 1.3 and that was too loose, so now I'm at about 1.6 but I've lost a lot more weight since the 1.8 fill and feeling a little less restriction now. I think I'm good for a few more weeks and then I'll need to get in again for another fill. The way it was explained to me was that as you lose, you lose the fat pad between the band and the stomach, so you need to keep getting fills until you reach your goal. Or maybe I was just high off my ass since it was explained to me pre-op. I'm still holding at 228 (fluctuating up and down the same 2lbs.) Gotta love plateaus. Ugh! I'm happy though, I found my collarbones! And hip bones, and chest bones which actually scared the crap out of me when I brushed my arm against my chest one day. (Sorry, TMI, but it was freaky! I thought I had a lump, turns out it's just bone I've never been able to feel.) -
I was banded Oct 1, 2008. The complications started the day of surgery when a nurse held my ankles and made me reach above my head, grab the bedrails and pull my butt into the hospital bed. I had a shredding pain spread across my abdomen. No big deal they said, hit the pain pump. The next morning I woke up to an enormous bruise that was about 7" wide by 10" long across my abdomen under my port site sutures. I was scared. . .But was reassured that nothing was wrong with me. Fast forward 10 days, suture removal, the bruising has now spread to my side and down even further my abdomen. The port site suture could not be removed because of swelling. The nurse dug around in one of my lap sites to remove sutures, and she couldn't get them out. YAY. 2 weeks later, I had cottage cheese consistency, old blood spewing from the lap site, it's now the size of a lima bean, and I see all the way to the pink layers of my abdomen, right through the fat. The infection is now tunnelling through my tummy. YAY YAY. They didn't seem too concerned, just keep it clean. Okay, off I go, 6 weeks later, the little hole is now getting smaller, it closes one day, but to my surprise there was something growing behind it. LOVELY. Prescription of Levaquin should resolve that. . . I quit having restriction around Thanksgiving with a total of 2.5cc in my "band", in the tubing really. Was told to just stick to the diet, and to remember I am ahead of the game with 25lbs gone. December rolls around, not restriction, can eat more than I should, trying to be good. Called office about not having restriction, am told that it may take 25+ fills to get restriction and I need to accept it. REALLY? I'll throw out this and it maybe TMI for some. But, our sex life suffered substantially because the port area was so sensitive, sex was sometimes impossible. . . Even though my husband is the most understanding, loving, and supportive husband in the universe, I hated feeling that we could not be intimate because I hurt so badly. Okay, now fast forward end of Jan. Lost 1 pound in 2 months, YAY. I have a lot pain in my port area especially about my monthly cycle. Told surgeon, he looks dumbfounded. Manipulates the port for 15-20 minutes, I get 1cc finally. Thought I had restriction, yeah, not really. February, port pain is becoming more and more noticeable. And when I say pain, I mean pain level 6-8 on a daily basis. I go in for a fill even though they don't want to give me one, and he can't get to the port after 20 minutes of gouging around in my abdomen. It's swelling, bruising... I ask about the bleeding, and they finally agree to test me for R5 factor, reaction to Heparin. I am NEGATIVE. I received 5cc of heparin over a 30 hour hospital stay. Okay, March 3rd, went in for a fill under fluoro, yep port is flipped, he digs on me for another 20 minutes, 5 different sticks, and can't get it under fluoro. I'm devastated. . . I ask him "why do I hurt everyday?" his reply " I honestly don't know ". . . Hmmmm this is not good. 6 days later, I show up for another attempt under fluoro even though they tell me it is to be done the next week. He agrees to try again, I get to radiology, and he says " have I accessed the port since repositioning it?" Ummm I was just here 6 days ago, and NO you haven't repositioned my port. He chuckled and said "oh dear, I've forgotten your chart." The fluoro table is at a 25degree angle, he manipulates the port and is able to give me 1cc, and tells me "see ya in 60 days". . . And off he went. I left feeling like I was just ridden hard and put up wet. It was horrific. . . I called a week later and spoke with his nurse who proceeded to tell me " you haven't been happy since the beginning" I argued and said " No I haven't been happy since I have been ignored, and brushed off, and having complications that are trivialized by you and your husband." I told her I wanted my chart, and it took me driving down there and waiting an hour and a half to get my measley chart. She proceeded to tell me " you should of had gastric bypass like I told you". LOVELY. I am not sure if I would of been successful with the band, but I know that I am so glad that I am getting the revision. The PB, sliming, getting stuck on crystal light was just too much for me to tolerate. I followed the rules, I worked my butt off for that 1lb loss between Thanksgiving and January 22nd. I truly feel like I was set up for failure by my surgeon, and I am so grateful to have the approval that I need to have the band removed and revision to the sleeve in June. I was one of those ecstatic band patients until I had problems. Couple that with lack of concern and aftercare from my surgeon, I don't regret my choice for the band initially, I am sad it took me this long to get the hell away from my original surgeon.

DivaStyleCoach replied to Tyler883's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
***TMI Alert*** Last night I went to hear a wonderful speaker, of course there was food at the end. I got over-enthusiastic about a couple of bacon-wrapped scallops (I would have eaten a dozen or more pre-band) and ate them too fast. Well you know what that means... I had to leave early (had a hour drive home) and spent the entire hour on the freeway sliming and PB'ing...at 65 mph!:ohmy::ohmy: -
Apples - Thanks so much - you made me smile !! Ya the blahs do hit us all - I wish I had half your energy - I am going to have a no pressure weekend - I need some new tennis shoes and I have a $25 rewards card from Macy's and some coupons - I think I just need to re-energize... Robin said I could use the treadmill. She said a fast walk and even maybe try jogging..........but she said if it hurts to stop. I don't have a treadmill at home so I have to go back to the gym. I am still wiped out tired most days so I know I won't last very long, but even 20 minutes of fast walking would be good....... For me the port still hurts and today has been a bad day..........I KNOW I am retaining water becuase it is that time of the month, I am swollen everywhere and nothing is fitting me right now.......bra included. TMI I know, i know...........I have had really bad cramps and have been achy. This is like my worst one in months. I think the trauma of surgery has done something to my monthly time............I am also several days late which is not normal for me. Again I think surgery has my body out of wack right now.......... I had some mashed potatoes and some eggs today. In general I have been having broccoli and potato soup and lots of crystal light the last few days............liquid yogurt/lowfat........I ate some ricotta cheese with spaghetti sauce yesterday (Thanks Christine it was great)..........seriously not eating much or anything to exciting. I do think I didn't get enough protien the last two weeks. NOt that I am on puree's I plan to focus on protien. I had eggs, eggs, eggs for dinner tonight.............that might give me some energy back. I asked Robin about salad and she said after 12 weeks pre op!! So hmmm..............July 13. LOL.

Questions for those who went from band to sleeve.
Oregondaisy replied to LaNalga's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Way to go Elizabeth! I loved it when I had my trainer. Do you have a lot of trouble getting those pills you mention down in the morning? I take a lot of stuff. I have interstitial cystitis and there are a lot of herbs that really help with that. If I don't take them, I fee like somebody is shoving a red hot poker in my urethra. Sorry TMI but I just want to show how necessary it is that I take those. I figure I can dump most of them out and put them in Water, as they are capsules. I bought some chewable Calcium and Vitamins, but I am also worried about my hormones. Those I take at night. My estridol is a patch, but my progesterone is a capsule and it's some kind of oily stuff in there that I don't think I can get out. I'll have to get that capsule down somehow. -

Hey all, got banded yesterday and am still alive lol. I was great yesterday afternoon but this AM i wanted to scream trying to pull myself off my dad's couch (seemed easier since I have to stay on my back there). Been taking the pain meds regularly and haven't had anything but water and SF jello and really I'm not that hungry. I was suprised that I only had 2 incisions - I was told at my pre-op class there would be 3 - but hey less cutting works for me! I haven't braved the shower yet but maybe tonight. Had a walk yesterday and going to the store with my dad later so that'll be my walk today. I'm glad the meds make me constipated cuz I don't know how i'd reach behind myself atm. LOL. sorry bout the TMI but I know you guys understand! -

Terri & Lisa- I can tell you that for me I had to walk a lot. I was seriously pacing the house. It really helped get rid of the gas. I also used a heating pad (really a long sock like thing) on my lower belly and massaged around the incesions. I didn't touch them but near by. I was using circular patterns. Then I'd get up and walk again. TMI-I ended up putting the heating pad just under my breasts too, that relieved some of that pressure. -
Those that have had surgery this week
JayTee562 replied to comtemplating's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I didn't have any gas or bloating but BM's are fewer, sorry if TMI, and my weight loss has stalled but it's only been 2.5 days and I know I shouldn't be weighing so much. However I do have some more energy. I go back to work tomorrow and starting mushie foods on Saturday. -
Good Morning! It is still morning here on the west coast! FB friends... check out the photos of the quilt my DIL is making to benefit the 60 mile walk. She is doing such a great job. You've got plans as to how to raffle this, right, Steph? DIL will bring it to me in June and then I can mail it to you. She is really spending a LOT of time on this and I really appreciate her! Plus she wants to split the cost of the fabric with me. She's a jewel! I've been kind of tight all week. But comfortably ate a small bowl of chili last night for dinner, with a little rice. Then a couple of hours later I had a small strawberry shortcake. But this morning I'm tight again! DH made me a one egg omelet yesterday and I could only eat half. So I had the other half this morning, and much to my surprise, 1/2 hr or so later, I was carefully sipping on about 1/3 of a cup of coffee and a tiny little cough triggered loss of a good part of my breakfast. TMI--- it was just a very sudden projectile fountain all over me! YUCK! That was 3 hours ago and I still can barely sip on my crystal lite and we're getting ready to go out for lunch with DIL, BIL & SIL! Think I will be sipping on soup! On a lighter note, I am wearing a size petite LARGE polo shirt I found at a Salvation Army store, like new, for $2.70 minus Sr. discount! I am a GOOD shopper, and I don't remember when is the last time I could wear a top in a large! I was happy to be in XLs lately.

I haven't been banded yet - just starting the process ... however, I've already have this problem - or should I say - HAD - this problem. A friend of mine told me that her gastroenterologist told her to take 250-500 mg. of magnesium daily and it would regulate her -- she said if that didn't work, increase it by 250 mg. until it did - that you can't OD on magnesium - your body will burn off what it doesn't use. Well, my BF and I both started taking it - You can get a 100-ct. bottle at Target for $2.49. I started taking 500 mg., about 3 weeks ago and now I go every day -- sometimes more than once! Hope that's not TMI!!! Give it a try - hope this helps someone. :rolleyes2::tongue:

Holy crap Riley! You're freaking melting!!! I guess that fill did the trick to get you back up to speed. That's incredible, you're down almost 30 lbs in 2 months! I hope my weight loss is that quick. I had my 2 week appt today and everything went great. I'm down 12.5 lbs since surgery and my blood pressure was only 110/67, lower than my doc has EVER seen in my chart! I was glad about that. My incisions are healing great and she said I had good color in my cheeks for being only 2 weeks out. We talked about weight loss goals and she said she's love to see me at 210 for my first goal, only 35 lbs away. Then for my ultimate goal she said she's be happy with me anywhere from 155-175. She has me, my mom, and my 4 sisters for her patients so she knows our bodies and said that since we all weigh more than we look (3 of my sisters are 160, 170 and 200 but wear 8, 10 and 12's, they look smaller than they weigh) that she thinks I'll look great at that range and that 144 (my BMI target weight) I would look too skinny...imagine that!?!?! So, that's good news to me, just means I don't have to lose as much but will still look awesome. So, my original ticker will stay the same with a goal of 175. Then when I get there I'll probably change it to 155 and try to get down to that...we'll see. I can't even imagine being under 200 right now! Anyway, that was my day. I'm feeling great, my only "pain" just feels how a sideache feels but in the front left part of my stomach (under my left boob). I haven't had to take Tylenol for 3 days now, I think I'm done with it. OH! ALSO--totally girly TMI, but I started my period yesterday at 32 days (I've ALWAYS been a 32 day girl before gaining weight) and that's the first time I've been on time in YEARS. Every month since starting to lose weight in November my periods have gotten closer together--50 days, 45, 40, 36, and NOW I'm getting back to normal! I've never been so excited to start a period, lol. Have a great day everyone!
