    Sleeved sept 10

10 pounds 10 days winner, it came on over a long tine give it time.
  2. You've done a great job so far! Maybe considering weighing everyday? Then you won't wake up one day and realize you've gained 15 pounds. I weigh once every morning so that I know when I start to gain and I can immediately make adjustments for it. I feel like if I gain a pound or two I can easily get it under control in a day or so, but if I gained 5-10 pounds., that's going to take at least a month to fix during which time I'm going to be upset about it. Weighing every day prevents that from happening. Good luck!

    Warrior or whimp?

I soooo agree with both of you!!!! I feel like I gained 10 pounds overnight....everything I put on seems to stick and rub...... Even the earrings I put on seem to "hurt"....

Cute! I have some cute jeans too, but waiting to lose the final 10 before I do my family pics. And I definitely want a backside pic!
  5. I am extremely tired and frustrated. At least two nights a week I awake choking on stomach acid! Tonight it really scared me because it seemed to burn the heck out of my vocal chords! It took at least an hour for the burning to stop. I was literally crying. I had surgery in Mexico so my family doctor has been trying to help me.. First I was on Nexium. That didn't solve the problem so now I'm on Dexilant! I am wondering what else may work.. I am 10 weeks out, I eat the right foods, and I don't eat too late. Now, I'm scared to sleep for fear of choking!! Has anyone else had a similar issue or know of a medication that may help?????

How far out from surgery are you now? What time frame did you regain? I regained 27 pounds over a couple years but took it off from June-Oct with an addl 10 pounds. It's MUCH harder relosing the 2nd time around. I'm hoping you are putting a good plan in place now. We had success with 5:2. Keep at it! You can do it!!! thank you! I gained it back two yrs post surgery. I wish you the best thank you
  10. I have been working with my endocrinologist for a year now, and have finally received a surgery date of Sept. 19, 17. Starting my 2 week pre-op soon and would like to know if anyone out there would like to be a buddy while going through the pre-op thru surgery to post-op. I have a bit of good support and think I need to communicate with someone who actually knows what I am going thru. Not that it matters but I am a male, 61 yrs and live in Kansas. 275#, 5'9", BMI 40. I am going to lose minimum 75# as I am broad shouldered and don't want to get to skinny, just healthy enough to get off of meds for diabetes 2, high blood pressure, some bi-polar issues if this is possible and sleep apnea.

    I am banded, Now what?

Here's what my dietician had me doing from Day 1 through Week 6. Day 1,2,3 - I was allowed Water, sugar free Jello, broth, sugar free popsicles, decaf tea, and liquid Protein drinks (clear not creamy drinks). I was told to consume a maximum of 2-4 oz of any of the above items at one time. Day 4,5,6,7 - In addition to the above items, I got to add V-8 juice (Not Splash version, strained thinned cream Soups w/o meat or vegetables, nonfat lowfat yogurt, preferably lite or low carb (no seeds, fruit pieces, nuts, or granola added), skim milk. You should only be consuming a maximum of 2-4 oz at a time still. Weeks 2 and 3 (Days 8-22) - I was able to add soft, moist, SOLID foods, one at a time. Avoid products like beef, pork, Pasta, & rice. It is better to eat softer foods that are easier to digest. Remember to take very small bites and chew foods 20-30 times (to baby food consistency) to avoid vomiting or stomach irritation. If you have nausea or vomiting, return to the clear liquid diet and contact your doctor. Things to add to your food items above now are: Cottage cheese (low-fat or nonfat) String Cheese eggs (any style) Tofu Refried Beans chicken (canned or thinsly sliced deli-no BBQ) Turkey (thinsly sliced deli-no BBQ) Baked Fish (soft, moist, fresh) Tuna with fat free mayo or fat free Miracle Whip. Add the following foods, in this order, ONLY if you have room: Vegetables: Well-cooked, peeled vegetables (AVOID asparagus, corn, celery, peas, lima beans, brussels sprouts, lettuce, cabbage, raw vegetables for 6 months, then CHEWED well). Fruit: Canned fruit (preferably unsweetened) Small amounts of cooking spray Small amounts of fat-free mayo, fat free Miracle Whip, butter sprays, or broth to moisten food. Drink sips of water (2 oz every 15 minutes) through the day (total 48-64 oz day). Do not drink water 30 minutes before, during and 1 hour after a meal. Protein Drinks should be counted as part of your 64 oz Fluid daily. Weeks 4 & 5 (Days 23-35) - You can now increase your range of foods, adding more texture and variety. Remember to eat solid protein first! Foods you can now add to your diet are as follows: Egg salad, tuna salad, and chicken salad, with minimal fat free mayo (no celery), pickles with no skin is ok, I used pickle relish without any problems. Nonfat lowfat cheese. Creamy Peanut Butter. Chicken breast, turkey, lean beef, lean pork - must be moist and be able to pull apart with 2 forks. Black beans, lentils, split peas, canned. Low calorie, low carb frozen meal (remember, you will not eat the whole thing). As I recall, there were days that I was able to eat the entire frozen entree such as Weight Watchers, Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice, etc.), but not always. Foods to avoid - course or crunchy foods. Limit foods high in fat, sugar and starch. Week 6 and beyond - From this point on, food tolerances will be "trial and error" for you. Raw vegetables (peeled), raw fruit (peeled), salads, and nuts are best tolerated after 5 to 6 months. I think I tried eating salads and raw fruit after about 3 months and didn't have any problems, but just take it easy when trying this things since they can cause food to get stuck fairly easy. I stuck to the above foods and followed the above plan for the first 5 months before I started straying off "plan" and did really well in my weight loss then. I also walked 3 to 4 times a week on my treadmill. My weightloss slowed down when I found myself eating things that weren't all on the plan above such as fried chicken, candy, stuff that you really should try to eat in moderation anyway. My doctor and therapist keep reminding me this is a lifestyle change so I don't beat myself up if I have a bad day, I just get up the next day and do better. I'm still losing just not as fast as I did to begin with. My 1 year band anniversary is March 19 and to date I have lost 105 lbs, 20 of which I lost before the band. I'm very happy with my decision and hope you will be too. The plan that I just laid out above is what our dietician gave to us so if you follow it I would hope you would have minimal problems and great results like I have. If you have any questions, let me know. My email address is triggert@kc.rr.com if you'd prefer to email me instead of going thru the private messages. Hope this helps, Teri

    Fast Food eating out

Being sleeved 12/14/10 you probably shouldn't be eating whole foods yet, the mashed potatoes with a bit of gravy might be OK but if you're like me you won't eat much. I think I would take a jar of pureed chicken, Gerbers baby food is one. It's 2.5 oz and makes a meal for me. I've been really turned off by food lately so it would be easy for me, if you are still attracted to food then it may be a real challenge.

    Arms

Yep! I'm with God's Grace... I started with light hand weights whilst watching TV... focus on the front and back -tri and biceps... pull out from the side etc. Start with fairly low reps and then increase as you feel stronger. Don't push it as you're only 4wks out and your tummy is still healing. You will feel the benefit before you 'see' it, but you will see it in the end. Once you are cleared for full exercise, start doing some press ups and arm dips. Localised exercises are great, you can do them at any time and they only take 10-15 mins. Have a look on youtube for some advise on how to do the moves correctly - if you don't know or have forgotten - and start when you are ready. Remember to take measurements too! God luck =]

    Not so Fast Girl!!

Well I went to the Dr last week and he told me I didnt need my next fill yet. I've lost 19 pounds in two months and he was pleased with the difference. He said to keep going with what I have for another month or possibly even two. I went ahead and stayed on my liquid diet for the rest of the day, mainly just to give myself a jump start for the next two months and partially since I'd already psyched myself out for it all day. :mad2: I'm down to 220! Hard to believe that a year ago I was abut 270.

    The real journey begins

Last Friday 5/8 I was banded. OH BABY!!! Of course that day our area was hit with a really bad storm, 17 tornados touched down in our surrounding area. Of course I had no clue, I was in lala land! They said they had to postpone my surgery till the storm passed over but I still had no clue how bad it was. A few nights later I finally was able to see the news and asked my husband, "What the hell happened"? I'm just glad our home and family/friends were ok and feel so bad for the people who had damage. Ok, now for the trip so far. I handled surgery just fine, Doc said everything went very well, was in for 40 mins surgery and 1 1/2 hrs. of recovery. I wanted to sleep instead of breathing deeply, nurses didn't like that. I feel wonderful, no nauseia, not a great deal of pain, off pain meds after the 3rd day. Doing fine on full liquids. Even made a big batch of potato salad for Mothers day and didn't even want a bite! I have not been hungery AT ALL, so far this has been a walk in the park! Knock on wood! I hear the shoulder pain from the gas is bad, but it's not happened yet! I'm 5 days out and nothing, THANKS TO GOD! So may be I'm just one of the lucky ones, the blessed ones??? Yes I'm sick of liquids but it really isn't so bad! I add a lot of ice to my slimfast and I feel like it's a milkshake. I can do this. I've been walking every day, just a little, I get worn out so easy! I see out Doc on Thursday, can't wait to see how much I've lost in water weight. I lost 10 lbs. before surgery and I know I've lost more, my feet and ankles have never been so skinny and think! this is to friggin awesome!!!

Called off the surgery - anyone feeling this way?

I think that you need to go with your gut feeling on what decision feels right to you. I wanted to call of the surgery as the nurse was putting the IV in my arm, but I didn't. Then, after the surgery was over, I wished I had had the guts to walk out when it didn't feel right. Now I am 10 days post op, and I am adjusting ok at this point, but I am not sure I actually "needed" the surgery. I have lost weight with the protein shakes, which I could have done without the band. I am just hoping that as time goes on it will help me to maintain the weight loss and not regain. Only time will tell if it was the right decision or not. But if I were to do it again, I probably would have canceled at this point.

    Lap Band and Flying

Hi Eric, I believe I tighter when I fly, but it seems random. Sometimes I'm fine, sometimes it takes 10 minutes for a sip of the inflight drink to clear. *shrug*

    12/1/08 We Are.....!!!

It was the day before Thanksgiving and we’re packing up the car to go to go to Philly to my SIL/In-laws. We’re trying to get out the door by lunchtime because we know how bad the PA Turnpike gets this day. Side note: You pay a toll to take your life into your (white knuckled) hands to tailgate at 65 mph; :car::car:leave more then two car-lengths and someone darts in front of you (no turn signal, no smile, no wave…Happy Holidays to you too!), causing you to slam on the brakes and wonder if the car tailgating you will soon be in your backseat! :scared2: Back to the story…I finally got my three teens (DD is now 21 actually) out of bed and packing up their final items around 10am (this is early for some of them…teens!). My middle one (DS-18) comes up from the basement beaming. PAUSE right there! This alone is a holiday miracle…he’s going through that moody-teen:glare:Ask-your-teenager-now-while-they-still-know-everything phase:sneaky:…so moments of “beaming” are a rare commodity! He announces “I got accepted into the Engineering school at Penn State main campus!!! Whoo-Hoo!!”(insert us jumping up and down here). Those of you that know PSU, know what a feat it is to get accepted to main campus your Freshman year (most go to a satellite their first 2 years). He’s a very smart kid (National Honor Society), but isn’t the best test taker (psyches himself out:scared2:). He took a course and studied for the SAT, 2 hours almost every day for months, and then took it several times. He thought he wanted to go to Ohio State “OH”… “IO”!!! (DH-Mr.SA and my alma-mater), but he missed the out-of-state scholarship by a mere 10 points on the SAT, so it was just too expensive to go there…He was crushed,:hurt:but I kept telling him things happen for a reason. Since then :pray2:we’ve been waiting:toetap05: for the acceptance letters online everyday, so this was welcome news indeed! He is totally thrilled (and we are too! He deserves this after all that hard work!...dilemma:confused3:...who will we root for at the PSU-OSU game next year?)! One of his best friends that he played on the soccer team and ref’d with got accepted as well (also engineering) so they’re making plans to room together. My niece is a junior there now, so she was thrilled when we got to her home for Thanksgiving and he told her. The chant around our house now is…“WE ARE” … “PENN STATE”:biggrin3:!!!

    Looking for other San Diegains...

Well Bunkey, I wouldn't say I am lazy, but I don't do as much as I should. My exercise consists more of cleaning house...I have a beagle so I should take him out everyday, he would love it and it would be good for me too. Finding the time some days is tough. You know I am not worried about the food thing, we eat pretty good around my house, my husband won't eat meat if it has been frozed and that includes fish so everything is fresh. My family is Italian so we eat alot of fresh veggies and fruit, its not all Pasta like people think !! I know what you mean about the scale, when loosing weight is all you can think about its hard not to weigh yourself every 10 minutes, but its better if you just do it once a week. Way to go on your loss I can't wait!!

    What's in your home gym?

I had a really great gym quality treadmill that collected dust for years. I sold it and joined a gym that was only 10$ a month. Now I have all the equipment i could imagine collecting dust. Actually i have been going quite a bit

    Favorite Protein Bars

Look for a low carb / low sugar protein bar like think thin, nu go, pure protein and Atkins. There should be 2g or 3g of sugar or less as well as 20 G protein or more. The calories should be around 200, give or take 10 or 20. Do treat these as an exception rather then the rule because they are not the best survey of nutrients. No more then 1 a day. Maybe less if you are not physically active yet. They are good if you find yourself in a bind for a snack with no real alternatives. The problem with protein bars is they trigger you to eat more and their bioavailability is higher in the body, causing you to not be full for very long. That is why a dense protein is usually always a better choice if you have it available.

    Scared

I'm also pre-op and am looking at mid-June for surgery. One question I asked myself in deciding if this surgery was for me or not was, could I lose 80-90 pounds in my own and permanently keep the weight off? I answered no because I've been trying to do just that for about 20 years and have failed. The other issue for me was BMI and life expectancy. People with a BMI of over 40 can expect to live 10 years less...that scares the hell out me a whole lot more than whatever short term complications or pain I may experience from having this surgery. I'd like to be around for my grand kids some day. I think it would be beneficial for you to sit down and write out a pros/cons list for having the surgery and I'm almost positive the pros list will win out. Good luck! Peanut Butter

It was on my list, but it had too much sugar in it for me and I spent the rest of the day running to the toilet after adding it (less than a teaspoon!) to my protein shake. It left such a terrible memory that I haven't tried it since as I am at 10 weeks. But, I did have some Almond Butter two days ago on a couple of apple slices and that went down just fine.
