  1. it's fairly common the first few weeks or months after surgery - then it tends to resolve. You just have to get up slowly when you've been lying down.
  2. It happens When I was 3 weeks PO it happened and then broke a week in a half later. Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Hi all. I was scheduled to have surgery last month but due to extenuating circumstances had to reschedule my surgery the evening before it was scheduled. I am now due to have surgery at the end of this week but am very concerned about one thing I’ve been reading on other forums:orthostatic hypotension. People reporting light headedness, fainting spells and extremely low bp when getting up from a seated or laying down position. is this common??? How many people here have had this? I watched my dad suffer from that for years (part of another neurological condition he had) and it was the most traumatic thing and I don’t want that for myself. In his case I think it was also unmanageable because of his other condition but I wonder can anyone share some insight like how easy it to treat/cure for weight loss surgery?? thanks in advance

    Getting frustrated

I am going to second what Catwoman7 said. I have had and sometimes continue to have stalls. I'm almost a year out and have had so many it can sometimes be ridiculous. Just stay on course and it will pass.
  5. I feel the same. No one to really talk to about how I’m feeling after 2 weeks post op. All these different feelings and how sometimes I want to give up, but know I can’t.

    Getting frustrated

just wait it out. It'll break on its own. Stalls are a very normal part of weight loss - this will likely be the first among several. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. They typically last 1-3 weeks. Once it breaks, you'll be on your way again.

    2 weeks post op

Hey Netty I'm okay I'm at a stall now. I'll be back to work next week Sent from my moto g power (2022) using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I am 18 days post op and I'm already at a stall. My first week and a half I lost a total of 18lbs and now I'm still at the same weight. Any advice anyone can give me to break this stall. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. This is a friendly, kind, safe and helpful place. We are all really glad that we found it. I have found great help here and hope I pass some forward too. I do not know anyone personally who has had this surgery done. I did not tell anyone but my son and husband initially. Women can be really bitchy and I did not need the uneducated backlash. Now that I have lost all this weight, I am more mobile and can get out and about. I have started to grow my circle of friends. I volunteer at a charity shop one day a week, its great fun and I love it. Its great to look forwards to some thing again instead of being almost housebound
  10. You have a staple line or stitches across your new tiny stomach, this early in your new life , you need to be careful of them. You have a way to go to heal properly. Learning how to eat again is tough. Eat with a small spoon. Slowly. Wait for the full signals. It gets easier as you go through the food stages. Then you will feel a proper restriction. I never got hungry signals just acid gurgling and churning. Some people do though. If you can manage a 1/4 cup then that sounds ok. It is only very soft food after all. It might take longer to eat fish and meats. Everyone is different, I could only manage 2 teaspoons of yogurt but I enjoyed them. It gets easier after the first week or so
  11. Be thankful you get anything besides shakes. I had 3 weeks of 3 meal replacement shakes a day. ( Could have SF jello, broth and sf popsicles) but no solid food of any kind. To make matters worse, I work in an Elementary school and it was the 3 weeks leading up to Christmas break. There were treats in the teacher lounge - where I eat lunch - EVERYDAY! I used it as an opportunity to practice my self control. I also lost an additional 20 pounds leading up to my surgery! Drink plenty of water and keep yourself busy.

    Pancreatitis :(

I have had a wonderful first two weeks postop experience. But the last few days I’ve been getting horrible pains and finally broke down and went to urgent care. I thought I had a kidney stone. Turns it is pancreatitis. Does anyone know if that is a common side effect post op? If so, do you know when I might stop being a problem? The pain had inched up close to kidney stone level, but now I am on some narcotics to keep the pain down
  13. I had the one with low carb veg too. 3 weeks..... I roasted them, with and without spice Made them into Thai style broths with water noodles. Made them into curry, lots of curries with cauliflower rice. Made loads of veg soups and vegetable dips Had a great variety of salads with sugar/ fat free dressings I wished I knew more veggie recipes. At the end I was so over it
  14. I had my 2 week post op appointments yesterday with my Nutritionist and the Dr. in charge of the Nutrition Clinic, the pharmacist and my surgeon. The Nutrition Doc put me on the bariatric scale and my body fat % is the same, so I'm losing as much muscle as fat. During the full liquid phase I was consuming an average of 534 calories a day, 66oz of water/shakes and 72.4g protein. I didn't just drink shakes, I ate yogurt 2x a day and pudding/protein too. I walked around my house quite a bit, but I only got about 2 hours of "exercise" because THAT incision was so painful the first week, and the second week somehow I triggered my back pain (the surgeon said that since it started hurting when I tried to increase my walking time, that the surgery could have triggered it). OK, that's the background. My Nutrition Doctor was disapproving of my calorie intake and told me I should have been getting at least 800 calories a day (she never told me that, my goals were 48-64oz of fluid and 60-80g protein). She said if I needed to, to sip on protein shakes during the day to bring my calorie and protein up. My surgeon said that getting less than 600 calories a day isn't unusual and not to worry about it, don't make myself eat. That I should take it easy until the episode with my back ends and then try to start walking and use some light weights to start building muscle. So, it wouldn't be a problem if I could do both, but now I'm on pureed/soft foods and as much as I was looking forward to it, I just don't want to eat. I didn't feel hungry during the last phase either, but I ate and drank as scheduled. It wasn't a problem, but it did take ALL day. Now, I get a few bites down and I don't feel full, nauseous or in pain, I just REALLY don't want it. It's confusing because I don't know how to read the signals anymore. Since the surgery, my stomach will growl and my mind says "I must be hungry" and at the same time "I don't feel hungry". So now, am I full or am I just repulsed because my tastes have changed? I used to drink plain water all the time, now it tastes bad. Do I go back to full liquids and add more shakes so I can get the 800 calories or do I press on with Phase 3 and try to find soft foods that I can make a whole meal out of and not worry about the calories? I don't feel like I can do both because while I had no problem with Phase 2, I don't think I can get the extra calories/protein while trying different foods that I may not want to eat after a few bites. I'm supposed to get at least 32oz of fluid from water, not shakes.

    Hello again

Follow away It was a tough ride but utterly amazing, did Paris-Roubaix last year which was tough in other ways. Two weeks time eTape Loch Ness which is ace. It does feel good and hilly rides are a good motivator to keep going as every lb is a penalty!

    Afraid to eat.

I have to have my foods with some kind of sauce in order for them to go down well. I would try adding sauces to make things more moist. This might help some. That being said, it did take me longer than my plan dictated to move from one texture food to another, so I agree with Sigh that you could also go back a stage for another few days/week to see if that helps your progress. Edit to add: my favorite sauce is a pan gravy where I use a broth or stock to deglaze and just pour that over what I eat.

    Afraid to eat.

I too have felt like i needed a tiny sip of water, so no judgement. I am five weeks out. I know every plan is different, but my doctor advised going back to liquids if there is any pain eating and try again in a few days. It may be your body saying “im not ready”. No shame in that, just proceed slowly as you are comfortable.
  18. Had Gastric By Pass April 5 th. Left the Hospital Thursday the 6 th. Doctor was concerned I wasn’t walking enough and put me on Heparin shots once a day for 2 weeks. I am walking, even took my first shower this morning. Hardest thing to deal with at this time is gas and Diarrhea occasionally. I am not sure why the Diarrhea is even happening since I am drinking mostly water.

    Afraid to eat.

Right I know some of you will say.... would she ever relax but...... Im 4 weeks past op yesterday. I was doing really well on my soft diet but the last few days every time i eat it hurts. I'm chewing etc eating slow but every bite is hurting too the point I'm afraid to eat now. Even taking my meds is off putting. For lunch today i had mash potato and salmon all lovely and soft but only way i got round it was to take a teeny weeny sip of milk so it'd go down. Please don't slate me for sipping. I'm after advice not a berating! Anyone else have ups and downs like this. I was doing so well. (Still am) would water intake have an effect? If i wasnt meeting that goal? 20. I had surgery March 2021 as well. My doctor has been so supportive throughout my whole post op journey. I stalled after a year as well. We tried multiple options to jump start my weight loss again. Mounjaro has definitely been the answer. I have lost a bunch of inches and about 35 lbs so far. It has helped me digest my food easier, helps my hair and nails grow, improves my moods...I can deal with the nausea and cramping and occasional vomiting. I am currently on the 12.5 and doing good. I hope it is working for you!!

    Cold water obsessed

2 weeks after sleeve.....I've neverrrr liked water. Now I'm obsessed with ice cold water!!is this a bad thing? I share your pain!!🙄
  22. I was on shakes only, and I found that it was extremely hard only for the first three or four days. After that, it seemed like my body adapted and it was much easier. I looked at it as a good test of my willpower for later on when I would really need to be disciplined about my diet. (Turned out that I wouldn't feel hungry again for months!)
  23. I am struggling with over eating after 10 months post op. Lost 90 pounds quick from May to October then stopped. Trick or treat, thanksgiving, Christmas, now Easter causing me to fall off the program and has carried into my daily eating. Anyone else struggling with binge eating?
  24. I was on protein shakes and one non-starchy vegetable meal per day, so a similar plan to yours. No idea why some folks get super-restrictive milk diets and others can eat solid meals, but each surgery has its own way of doing things. Yes, the pre-op diet sucks, the cold-turkey off sugar addiction alone is brutal. But it's only two weeks. I kept that in my head at all times - two weeks is a blink of an eye in this whole process, and by week two my pre-surgery nerves had kicked in and that nervous energy helped divert my attention. Distract yourself with anything you can. Games, cleaning, walks, books, walk-and-podcast or walk-and-audiobook. Whatever you're able to do. Drink water, keep it on hand at all times. Stay focused on why you're doing this. Make wishlists of what you want to do and wear when you start dropping those sizes.

    Am I recovering TOO fast?

Everyone recovers differently & can or can’t tolerate different things at different times. Not everyone experiences temporary changes in their senses taste &/or smell. Some can drink cold drinks easily while others find warm or hot drinks easier & more soothing. Some people are advised (by their surgeon) to progress through the stages more quickly while others need to stay at a stage longer. You won’t really feel your restriction (a tightness across your chest) until you’re eating more solid foods & the nerves that were cut during the surgery are healed. The pain you initially felt would have been from stressing, straining or irritating your healing tummy. You shouldn’t use your restriction or discomfort as a signal you’ve eaten or drunk too much or too fast. Not everyone dumps. Less than 30% with sleeve & less than 40% with bypass. But it is easily managed by avoiding those foods that cause it (fats &/or sugars) which you should be doing while you’re losing weight. In time even those who do dump may find they can eat a small amount of these foods without issue. It is important to follow your plan. Remember all because you can doesn’t mean you should. The plan is in place for a reason. Initially to protect & support your healing tummy (think of all those sutures & staples holding your tummy together) & then to support your weight loss (awareness of portion sizes, calories, nutrition, food choices, reflect on old eating habits & establish new habits, etc.) Conversations with your surgeon & dietician would be of benefit to ensure you are making the best choices - behaviours & foods. If your surgeon feels you are healed enough to progress more quickly, they’ll let you know what you are able to do & eat now. I am worried you chose to eat cake at 4 weeks post surgery. It was your choice but was it a self sabotaging behaviour? Cake at week 4? What will you eat in subsequent weeks? Only you know the answer to this. Maybe a conversation with a therapist will help. And yes you will lose weight while your calorie intake is in deficit even eating cake but your focus should be on the nutritional value of what you are eating when your intake is low. Protein, protein, protein then vegetables & eventually some fruit & complex multi/whole grain carbs.
