    Anyone had full bypass surgery??

You'll find dozens of posts on revision to bypass on this site!
  2. I had liposuction years and years ago when it was still new and it does nothing for weight loss. The fat cells come back and other ones are quite happy to store extra. My BMI was 32 when I got my band 10 years ago. I am of the view that people that are only a “ little bit obese” eventually become a “ lot obese” if they don’t do something early on. All those people that got to BMIs of 40 and above would once have had a BMI similar to yours. Did they manage to lose the weight with diet and exercise or WW, no, they needed surgical intervention. That is because obesity is complex and the solution is not as simple as just diet and exercise, if it was none of us would have a problem. I had to have my band out in Jan due to issues and I revised to an RNY, at that point my BMI was under 30. I am happy I did because after 56 years I know that I need help to control my weight, I can’t do it on my own.

From Denial to Appeal to Approval

Thanks for responding to my post and I will definitely appeal if I get turned down. I have my surgeon and my gastrointestinal doctor fighting for my revision surgery so hopefully it will be resolved quickly. I hate being on so many meds for 1 problem and the meds are not working properly now so I'm desperate to find a solution. Thanks again. Allie Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

From Denial to Appeal to Approval

I got denied the first request for revision. My denial said, "You didnt follow your surgeons diet plan that's why we are denying your request for revision to rny." I wrote them back a very detailed letter citing I didn't want to lose more weight. I imcluded that the complications are taking a serious toll on my health amd asked them to reconsider and they did then approved me. They may deny you at first, appeal it. They aee doing their job trying to save their company money

Dilemma on to do or not to do

@nssmia A thought, bmi 30 and over is obesity range, WIll lyposuction get you healthy long term or will you regain with that proceedure? I'm also concerned about all the posts recently about weight gain and revisions. Know there are many of us that bounce back from surgery with no complications and have kept the weight off. I had the sleeve in 2014. I reached goal in six months. I maintain in the 130's. Many people at goal or maintaining no longer need the support on this site.. the positive is not getting enough recognition. You will see mostly. People researching, new to wls complications, weight gain and a handful of vets that stick around I have a link of positive experiences to help balence out the other posts. It may help calm someone's anxiety. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. I really need a perspective on whether or not to have s sleeve. Bmi is 32. Weigh 200. 5'6" have 40# to lose. Already approved. Now having second thoughts. Not because of short term issues like pain, nausea, tiredness. really concerned about success after 2 years. I hear so many people commenting on revisions. Weight gain, etc. I'm trying to lose with weight watchers. It's a toss up of the sleeve vs liposuction in my tummy area. And arms. For contouring. Any comments appreciated. Question. For sleevers out 2 years and more, would u do it all over again Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Supplements and such

Wow wish I had been told that I could choose to get the RNY but my surgeon said sleeve was best for me. [emoji174]He knew that i already had severe reflux and I had no clue it could get worse. But from taking 2 pills a day to now 10 pills (4 different medications) a day just for the GERD. I am absolutely miserable and the meds are not working properly now. So I am going through the process of getting approved by the insurance company to get the revision done. How long did it take you to get approval for your surgery? My sleeve surgery approval only took 2 months as I have 2 insurance companies. I am now also on zofran for nausea every day mine has gotten so much worse than it was. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. 5 weeks out from sleeve to RNY revision and I ate a mini chocolate chip muffin. I didn’t burst into flames or dump or have any side effects. Kind of wish I did. But that muffin tasted wonderful.

    Supplements and such

I had RNY gastric bypass surgery. One of the reasons why was because I had GERD before surgery. I am now 6 years post-op and GERD is no longer in my life. It has been in remission since I had the surgery. I chose to not have another option Sleeve because in many cases, the Sleeve will only make this condition worse. Several individuals on this board had sleeve surgery and the GERD go so bad that they had to have a revision to RNY gastric bypass. If I went under the knife once I did not want to do it again so that is why I chose RNY gastric bypass.
  10. Hi everyone! I am approximately 9 weeks pregnant and feel super bloated and have already gained a few pounds and it is making me extremely nervous.. I had wanted to talk to my surgeon about my constant stall no matter what I was doing and my terrible reflux to get revision surgery prior to me getting pregnant.. now, I am not due until November, and was wondering how long after I give birth should I approach the revision? I am not going to breast feed due to my line of work and would like to have the revision done while I’m on maternity leave so I don’t have to take additional time off from work. Anyone do this or have any pointers? I’m super stressed about the weight gain :(

    Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!

I chose the sleeve, mostly because i was self pay without insurance, however the sleeve does wonders. I liked the idea that the sleeve meant that my body functions would be the least invasive and function normally. There is a lot of restriction with the sleeve. from what i have heard, the bypass should be for those with comorbidities besides the weight loss. I was lucky and didnt have anything but weight loss to deal with. The other thing i heard was some that get the sleeve have to be revised to bypass depending on how much weight you have to lose. You really need to weigh all the options and make the best decision for you. What is right for one, may not be right for another.

Hey feliz when you say your esophagus is stretched how is that? I had a revision on my lap band two days ago because my stomach and intestine went through the band. I’m a gastric bypass first then I started over 10 years to slowly start putting my weight back on so I looked for a dr. That would put a band over my gastric bypass.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

    No weight loss

I lost one more pound ..so in the past 2 weeks I've lost ONE pound. I cried at the doctors office, how embarrassing. My surgeon said that patients with revisions have a tendency to not lose as much as quickly as first time bariatric surgery patients. Our bodies are somewhat used to a lower calorie intake from the previous surgeries and it takes some time for our metabolism to kick back in. I hope that's the case.

    GERD before and after sleeve

Many being revisioned to BYPASS due to this!

    GERD before and after sleeve

@nssmia eeeeeek, hold your horses☺️ i am going to play devils advocate I never had any gerd pre-op to sleeve - so reflux never an issue for me reading the boards you will see many OP that had gerd, or never had it before - and gerd become unbearable PO sleeve there are OP on the board that have revisions (ie to gastric bypass) to get rid of/improve their gerd problem - hopefully you will hear good/bad stories concerning the gerd/reflux with the sleeve i don't have stats - but in my opinion concerning reflux/sleeve - owner beware I am so happy with my sleeve these past 7+ years - it is a great choice☺️ but talk to your doc again about sleeve vs bypass involving reflux hmmmm, hope i didn't scare you about sleeve, its wonderful, just putting "it" all on the table for you and OP☺️ good luck with your decision kathy

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Good morning. I had a gastric bypass revision on April 3. I am doing well except for being sooo tired. I move onto soft foods today. Pretty excited about that! I spent two nights in hospital because the hole in my original pouch (done in 2004) was 3”, much larger than expected. Also had a lot of scar tissue. The nausea after surgery was horrendous the first day but not too bad after. Pain has been minimal. I I hope everyone here has a surgeon as amazing as mine. And a wonderful post-op experience in the hospital. Hang in there! It gets better every day.
  20. Has anyone used Blossom for sleeve revision to bypass?
  21. I’m planning a revision from the sleeve. I look forward to keeping up with everyone’s journey

    May bypass

Hello everyone. I’m so glad to see this forum. I’m planning a revision to the mini bypass as well. I was originally sleeved in 2013. As with everyone else, I’m plagued with heartburn and weight gain. I’m planning to self pay and return to my original surgeon. I’m hoping to have my surgery sometime this summer.

    EGS to Gastric sleeve

Had my consult with the bariatric surgeon. He said that sleeve or bypass are both possible after esg. Sleeve would depend on the anatomy of the stomach and could only be done if the stomach had dilated or stretched a lot since esg. He did also add that if the esg did not work for me then a sleeve may also not be as effective. The only way to see what would be best is to do a gastroscope and decide after this. He did say that as this is considered revision surgery, a leak from a sleeve or bypass would be higher risk and that his preference is most likely a bypass but would wait until after a scope to further discuss this with me and decide. As for now, I have lost 15kg in 2019. Hoping not to need surgery but glad to have a plan to move forward if I do. Mel xx
  24. I'm 5 weeks out from surgery. My NUT just told me to increase my calories to minimum of 800 per day as I've been plateaued. She is suggesting 4 meals per day at approx 3 ounces each. Today my plate looks like this: B: 1% cottage cheese with cinnamon with a small piece of fresh pear. Mid morn: Hard boiled egg with lf mayo and mustard (basically a devilled egg) L: Home made turkey chili with beans and turkey jerky Mid aft: Premier Protein Shake Dinner: Boneless/Skinless chicken thighs and steamed green beans 87 grams protein/74 grams carbs/39 grams fat
  25. I had Lap Band surgery in 2004. I can't eat fruits and anything else that is not soft. I have severe GERD and acid reflux. I would like to have revision to Mini Gastric Bypass, all that done in Toronto, Canada. What is that like, is it a good choice? What are the possible problems with Mini Gastric Bypass? How do you maintain weight since it is not adjustable?
