    Severe Gerd?

What are y’all’s symptoms? I never had heartburn until after my surgery (May 3, 2018). I was on a prescription but they had to change it because it wasn’t for long term use. My new prescription was working but now I seem to have heartburn pains. I had started Plexus products and that was fine at first too then the heartburn came back with a vengeance. My husband was using Plexus as well and told me that he had been having heartburn problems since taking Plexus. We both quit a few days ago and his heartburn has gone away. Mine has not though. I get a weird pain in the center of my chest when I eat (not all the time but most of the time) and I have to wait before I eat more bites (if I even do continue to eat). I am very worried that there is something wrong with my sleeve. The only thing I’m doing different now is taking my prescription in the morning when the directions said to take it at bedtime. I switched to morning when the heartburn got worse. I am planning on taking it tonight as directed and to continue to take it at night. My sleeve was a revision from lap band that slipped twice. I have been so careful with this sleeve and now this!! I am so stressed out about it!! Please let me know if anyone else has had these problems (whether with or without Plexus products). I am going to call my doctor on Monday to see what they recommend. My doctor is 3 hours away so it is a drive if I need to be seen.

Did you find the foods you tolerated different after the revision Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. For the first surgery, I took off a week, then I worked a week of half-days. Yes, I felt ready to go back. I was still sore, but not in pain. The second surgery was easier, I think, because there was so much less of me to haul around. I was only 20 lbs. from goal weight when I had the revision (for severe reflux.) One thing to consider: If you drive a stick shift, I hear that it may take you longer to feel comfortable driving, especially if you're in an area with a lot of traffic.
  4. A lot depends on how physical your job is. I'm an accountant, so . . . I took off one week with the sleeve, then did a week of half days before returning to work full time. When I had my revision to bypass, I was off 10 days. Good luck on your journey!

Anyone had surgery done in New York?

I had my lap-band in NYU in 2003. I've since revised to Bypass. Dr. Alfons Pomp is at Weil Cornell. He's originally from Canada I believe and a very well respected bariatric surgeon. If you're using him and his team, you're in great hands.

I'm so frustrated with my GI doctor

I would check with your surgeons office about it, as you have the tests and data that is required - if a bariatric surgeon doesn't know how to interpret an endoscopy, then he shouldn't be in bariatrics! Mostly, they are looking for a CYA from another doctor before they proceed, but if the report is clean and there is nothing to worry about, then it should be OK. The important thing is to know what is going on inside as that can influence what procedure is done or how to go about it, which is what the report would tell him. To be somewhat fair, the gastro doesn't necessarily know what the surgeon may want as a clearance in this case - that is often an interpretation on the surgeon's part - and not just a "yes/no" thing from the gastro. One surgeon I know prefers to do some of these things himself rather than depend upon a gastroenterologist report (particularly when he is doing a revision) as he knows better than the gastro what he is looking for. A cardiac or pulmonary clearance, which are also common, are more of a yes/no thing ensuring that there are no big showstoppers that will cause grief under anesthesia, but an endoscopy or upper GI gives the surgeon information that is useful for planning his operation, so should be something that he can handle.

Lisa, a revision for reflux is not considered a weight-loss surgery. I had mine when I was only 20 lbs from goal weight. It is considered a fix to the GERD problem and does not have any weight-based criteria, just the damage caused by the GERD and whether you are responding well to non-surgical treatments.

    Revision-tufts

Usually, such a revision doesn't require the usual bariatric qualifications if it is to address a complication from an earlier (preferably approved or covered) procedure. So, if the reflux problem has been adequately documented, along with whatever efforts were tried to correct it, then it should be approved with minimal hassle. In such situations, one should try to get multiple opinions on the problem and proposed solution - these things tend to be more complicated than the original surgery, both in diagnosing the problem and solving it. Some surgeons who are particularly experienced with sleeve based procedures may be able to correct the problem with a re-shaping of the sleeve while others may not even try and just revise to a bypass without a second thought. Good luck in getting it resolved....
  9. Does any know the criteria for Tufts for a revision from sleeve to bypass? I suffer from terrible reflux and need some relief. The medication doesn't work anymore. I do not fit the BMI and I don't have diabetes, sleep apnea or cardiovascular issues. Thank you Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app

I am so afraid of cancer. Right now the reflux is ruining my life. I am eating things that give me relief and they are not on a sleeve diet. How can I find the criteria for a revision? I am upset because me doctor originally was going to do the bypass and never told me it could get worse. Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app

I hope your family member is ok. Thank you so much for responding. Did you need to meet the same criteria for the revision? I don't have the comorbidities or weigh enough. Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Severe Gerd?

I am 3 years out from surgery and the heartburn is getting alot worse. I have an appointment Monday and I am leaning toward a revision. I hope it gets better for you. I lost the heartburn for probably a year after surgery and now I live on Tums and yogurt to sleep. Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app

I had my sleeve revised to an RnY last October. It took several months for the sore throat to heal, but it's much better now. Like you, I was concerned about the long-term use of PPIs. I thought the recovery was a bit faster for the revision, probably because I didn't have the tightness from the swollen sleeve.

I have a family member that had Squamous cell carcinoma (Cancer of the esophagus) caused by acid reflux. A lot of people that have acid reflux or GERD don't take it seriously and just chew tums or pop a pill but it can be dangerous. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't hesitate moving forward with the revision to bypass. Just based on the anatomy of the bypass surgery, acid reflux will be a thing of the past post-op. I can't guarantee anything but my extensive research on what surgery to get and my fear of acid reflux caused me to choose RNY.

    Severe Gerd?

I had only occasional heartburn before surgery. Since surgery, if I miss a dose of omeprazole I'm in a world of hurt, and even if I'm taking it perfectly I get breakthrough reflux once or twice a week. I suspect I have revision to bypass in my future if this continues, but for now, I would say it's fairly to well controlled with medication.

Has anyone had a band over their sleeve?

Sleeved in 2017. how much weight did you lose after surgery? You are currently 174 and stopped losing weight or have you gained weight? Have you seen your surgeon to rule out complications? Some things to try: You’re not alone, Many sleeves feel less restriction as we progress out from surgery. Your stomach is not back to full size. (Stretching is rare have it diagnosed by a surgeon and investigate revision options) Just because we can eat more does not mean we have to. Are you logging your food and staying within your weight loss calories and macros? Eat as much veggies with dense protein until the sensation of full. The bulk and fiber will help you feel more satiated. Carbs and sugar cause hunger. Once you eat them you crave them more. detox off them. Has anyone had a band over their sleeve?

Revision might be an option for you. Have you talked with a sergon? Methodist Hospital has a weight loss center Sent from my SM-J727T1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I use to have a lap band and had to have it removed because it slipped. My doctor revised it to a sleeve. But the sleeve just hasn’t been nearly affective and I so desperately want my band back!! But I’m finding that no doctors will do a band over sleeve in Houston. Has anyone had a band over your sleeve? I want my band back!! 😩
  19. I use to have a lap band(placed in 2011) . I was 220lbs and got down to 123lbs. I loved my band! I got sick and was vommitting for hours and it ended up slipping. I had a revision done and the band removed and the sleeve surgery done in November 2017. But I can’t lose weight! I’m now 176lbs! And so depressed! I want my band back! But I can’t find any surgeons in the Houston area who do a band over a sleeve. I’m even willing to pay out of pocket! Has anyone had a band placed over their sleeve? Does anyone have any tips or advice? I feel like my appetite is so big again and my sleeve surgery just hasn’t done what my band did for me.
  20. I had the lap band with plication in 2012. I started having problems aboit 6months ago and went to a different doctor. I told her I had the plication and she said "oh, I'm sure it didn't hold... The stitches most likely came out". I just had revision to bypass on 2/25. 21. I had a revision from band to bypass on 2/25, so just over 3 weeks ago. I find that throughout the day I'll get this sharp pain (similar to the feeling of a muscle spasm) on my left side, just under my ribs. Sometimes it even kicks in when I start eating (still on soft /pureed foods). Doesn't usually last long. At night, I can't lay on my back in bed! I get these horrible sharp pains. As soon as I move to my side, it ends. I'm trying to convince myself it's from healing and my body is just trippin' while trying to heal LOL. My doctor did tell me my pain in the left side would be worse and take longer to heal. Anybody else have a similar situation? Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I'm currently waiting for a phone call to schedule my surgery date. I'll be getting a revision from sleeve to bypass for severe GERD at Kaiser Richmond. Look me up on Instagram if you all want to keep in touch there. I have a personal and a WLS account, here's both: bubbz333 (personal) & vsgbubbz (WLS). I'm much more nervous about the surgery this time around so it would help to have some people to talk to that are going through the same thing.
  23. Just wondering if Wellcare will pay for a revision if I need one? I have a scope Friday after 4 years to see how it's going in there. I've struggled for over a week to just drop 1 lb. I've been going to to gym and eating way less and upping my water and other liquids. And protein. I just hope I haven't messed my sleeve up. Cuz if Wellcare doesn't pay for it I sure can't.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I saw my doctor today and it looks like I may have a stricture - apparently it's more common after a revision. I am so done with this - I can't afford to pay for any more surgeries for starters, my body is done with procedures and I don't want to put my husband through any more of this. I have three days to figure out whether I can or can not get dense protein down.

    Breast Lift with Implants

I’m in Florida now but I am from Livingston/Jasper/Nacogdoches/Lufkin/Midtown/the Woodlands/KLEIN - Go Bearcats!! I used the Baylor residence program for a lot of cosmetic surgeries/Botox. I had liposuction and breast lift/ implants in 2008. My implants are way too big for me now but at the time they seemed like a logical idea. Looking to get those removed/ revised. I have since had two accidents and now suffer with back pain. Baylor did a great job with my lipo (Of course I gained back all the crap that I had liposucked our and ended up having a sleeve years later). But it’s a great program if you haven’t looked into it yet... I paid like $3400 for boobs and $4000 for the rest - 2 different surgeries. Would have been cheaper but I opted for the overnight hospital package at Methodist. I just wanted to comfort of staying in a hospital bed overnight with 24 hours care. Anyway, just my 2 cents...
