Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
Arabesque replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can depend upon your rate of weight loss slowing as you get further out & closer to goal. Those heady days of huge losses don’t last. I was one single kilogram (2.2lbs) from my goal at month 5 & it took me an entire month to reach it. It was like a stall. So close so far. You are eating more, closer to what your body needs to maintain your weight so you are not eating in deficit which forces your body to burn fat for energy. If you decrease your caloric intake, you may lose more but at 6 months out focusing on a healthy diet & getting closer to your required nutrients & intake is more important. The other truth is not everyone reaches their goal which is just a number. And those who do, don’t do so to an arbitrary timeline. Many factors totally out of your control affect your rate of loss & the weight you end up at like age, gender, weight loss & gain history & the biggest one: genetics. Can’t change those. Losing 1-2lbs a week is a healthy rate of loss. Celebrate every pound you lose. -
Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?
Ninabnina77 replied to Ninabnina77's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks, for all the info. After talking to you today, I did tons of research on th mini gastric bypass, one of my worries is bile reflux. Did your surgeon discuss this with you? The mgb has a high rate of getting bile reflux when compared to all other weight loss procedures. Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
lorlybeth84 replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my VSG on 3/22 and haven't encountered this yet, however my husband had his in May of 2021 and has gotten some tips from his dr that I will share with you. Apparently making sure to drink 60-70oz of water is critical to weight loss, I know its difficult but you could try to up your water intake and see if that helps. Also I would advise tracking your calories. Portion sizes seem small but you may still be eating more calories and carbs than you realize. You could try talking to the dietician to see if they have any suggestions as well. Hope this helps! Good luck, the way I look at it any loss is better than no loss or a gain! You're doing great -
Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
ShoppGirl replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately that super fast loss only happens in the beginning and it slows down for everyone. The last few pounds From goal are the worst. In theory you can speed it up some by exercising more but it still may not be as fast as what you are looking for. -
I am almost 6m out PO and I was wondering is there a way to speed up the fat loss progress? I am losing only 5-8 pounds a month for the past 3 months and I was wondering if there is a way I can kick start it back into overdrive? I had a goal to reach my goal weight by mid July but at this rate, I will be nowhere near it by then.

Trying to eat more veggies- 3 months post op
fourmonthspreop posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey! I'm 3 months post op from gastric bypass. I've been doing really well getting in my protein and vitamins everyday and the weight is coming off. I feel like however I don't eat nearly enough veggies as pre op and wish I could add more for overall health, wellness and gut health. Do you have any tips or tricks on incorporating more veggies into your meals? I can't really have raw vegetables or raw leafy greans but raw cucumber, raw fruit, raw shredded carrot, raw onion all seem to be fine in moderation. I absolutely HATE mushy cooked vegetables and mostly ate all my veggies raw before surgery (while doing pre op weight loss). Everytime I put cooked vegetables on my plate, I barely touch them because I find them so gross. Anyone have any dishes or tricks they can share on how to incorporate more vegetables? Thanks! Hi guys. I am exactly 3 months post op from yesterdays date and I have noticed my weight loss has come to a stop. I am curious as to wether you guys think it’s a stall or am I eating too much? I got covid 2 months post op , before that I was around 600-890 calories a day. After covid my appetite shot up and I’ve now been averaging between 950-1100 calories a day. if I go under that amount I am hungry and get really snappy. I feel so depressed when I look at other peoples calories 3 months out who average at about 800 and still “ struggle “ to eat. Because I don’t anymore and this surgery was my last option at trying to loose weight and I feel like I’ve failed with this now and like everything I try to help me loose weight nothing will ever work for me. a typical day for me looks like this Pre breakfast- Actimel 0% and a Caramel Latte (58 calories) can’t go without my morning latte. breakfast- varies but lately I’ve been having 2 bacon medallions (79 calories) 2 reduced fat pork sausages (162) heinz beans 80G (58 calories) And spoonful of mushrooms ( don’t count the calories as they are too low to workout) so breakfast is quite a big portion in my opinion lunch- chicken with mushrooms new potatoes and green beans (281 calories) or a folded flatbread (102 calories) with roast chicken inside (62 calories) followed also inside by some lettuce and reduced fat sour cream (35 calories) and a dairy Lee dunker (98 calories) tea - Chicken breast (126 calories ) with Mediterranean veg (88 calories) or Haddock with med veg Or reduced fat beef burger on a romaine lettuce leaf with a slice of RF cheese and lighter than light Mayo. snacks usually consist of light baby bels, chicken satay sticks , the small packs of fridge raiders or an options hot chocolate (38 calories ) some days I hit over 100G protein, carbs I eat between 50G/80G fat is under 40G a day, sugar is always under 20G would love ur opinions tips and tricks guys. for reference my programme/consultant never gave me calories to follow was just to always hit my protein goals and my start weight was 21 stone 9 pounds , I am currently 17 stone 12 pounds and 5’5.

Lower blood pressure & pulse rate is a great side effect of your weight loss. Some do find the experience quite significant drops for a while & have issues on getting up with vision narrowing, doughy head & at worst fainting - postural hypotension. My BP was always 120/80 but I had a tendency for drops at times especially when I was at a lower weight. Now my blood pressure is low all the time (60/50 - 80/60). It will hit 100 if I’m rushing about. I experience narrow vision & a doughy head on & off all day long depending upon what I’m doing. My resting pulse sits in the 60s. Last hospital stay they asked if I was an athlete which was hilarious because I avoid exercise. But that’s me & a tendency to low blood pressure is common on my mother’s side so genetic. I think being overweight actually pushed my BP up to a healthy 120/80.

Do you do anything special for yourself the night before surgery?
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just had my shower with the hibiclens stuff they told me to use, but while I was in there (before I used it) I did a hair mask. Then when IO got out I did a face mask and used toner and serum and moisturizer (my "special occasion" stuff, not my daily ones). I also exfoliated my lips and have on a lip mask. I know I can't have anything on my face when I leave for surgery, but I kind of wanted to go all out tonight. I can't have nail polish on, but I was told i can paint my toes, so I did that, too. I also have foot masks on right now. Not sure why I feel the need to have a mini spa day the night before surgery, but it just seemed like a good idea. Did any of you do this, too? -
VSG surgery in hopes to cure PCOS and have children!
Cat0430 replied to Cat0430's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks so much for that info. I’ve done a lot of research on PCOS and a lot of reading here as well. It seems like the weight loss surgery helps a lot but then there are some stories that have me worried! So I’m trying to stay positive and keep believing that I will be a success story. -
How many stalls have you had in your journey?
ms.sss replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 3.5 years out. Well first depends what you define as a stall. I went by the definition whereby: Stall = 7 consecutive days of no net weight loss AND no inch loss in that same period. By that definition, I didn’t have any. There was one week in month 3 when I thought i was going to record a stall, but I ended up losing less than 1 lb that week, and on “measurement day” (for me it was Wednesdays) i ended up recording like tiny fractions of inch loss in various areas. So technically, not a stall. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t semi-disappointed that week and that the familiar fear of regain didn’t rear its ugly head. And wondered, yikes! is this it? Stalls, excess skin and hair loss, the holy trinity of WLS fears. They happen to most more often than not, and become non issues at the same frequency. Stay in your calorie deficit and it’ll come of. You sound like you are taking it in stride though (vs panicking and suffering in angst)…so you are already ahead of the game ❤️ Good Luck! ❤️ -
It seems that I am literally the only one who 100%completely regrets this surgery. I have never hated myself this much in my life. I was so obsessed with this weight loss crap for 3 yrs and now 6 weeks healed from VSG and I hate life completely now. I will never be or feel like myself again and feel I don't deserve anything good ever again. This was the worst decision of my life and I keep having ptsd flashbacks of wishing I had never done this..that I canceled when I had the chance. Why am I the only one who fully regrets this.. I can't be the only one in the world who regrets it completely... Sent from my SM-G781W using BariatricPal mobile app

Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Ninabnina77's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
This sounds about like my thinking when I chose the Lap Band. I can now see it was a waste of time and not powerful enough to get adequate weight loss. I know now I should've chosen RNY from the beginning. -
How many stalls have you had in your journey?
DaisyAndSunshine posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I have hit a stall. It's been about 3 weeks and scale isn't moving. I know stalls are a norm but damn they are frustrating. 😂 I was just curious, how many such significant stalls did you come across during your weight loss phase? (Definitely more a question for those who are already a year or 2 post-Op). -
Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?
Ninabnina77 replied to Ninabnina77's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I think the most important thing we need to do is dig in deep and see what is the root cause of why we are overweight. Each one of us who is overweight has a different reason or cause. I am a binge eater and I have dealt with yoyo dieting and weight issues my entire life. I am also a breast cancer survivor. Originally I was looking to get a surgery that would be minimally invasive and best for my body and health over all. I did not want to do the bypass because of the malabsorbtive aspect of it, I thought it would not be good for my body being through cancer already. Now, almost 3 years post op, I realise that I should have chosen the bypass. I have had no peace of mind. My starting weight was 235 lbs, surgery weight was 227 lbs, lowest weight was 167 lbs. I am 5'5" tall and I was never able to get to goal weight. Last summer I regained some weight and went back up to 182 lbs, Jan 2022 my Dr. in Los Angeles put me on contrave and topomax, I weigh 174 lbs now. I got weight loss surgery so I dont have to be on medication, I am so sad that I am dependent on medication right now. I am struggling, and constantly worried about climbing back up to 200's. I got the VSG to have peace of mind and be healthy but unfortunately that does not seem to be the case for me. My oncologist told me that obesity increases your risk of breast cancer recurrence and death by 35%-40%. I had to sit there an reevaluate my situation, and decide to to do the bypass so I can have peace of mind about my weight and not worry about getting cancer back and dying. I have heard and seen so many stories of people who are binge eaters do so much better with the bypass as it forces them to eat better and make better choices. So now I realize this was the better option for me and I should have done it from the beginning. So at this point I want to do the bypass so I do damage control, I dont want to get back to 235 lbs or above to make this decision. I hope this helps. I am looking to go back to Tijuana because I can't afford to do this surgery in the USA. I would go back to OCC as my Dr. there, Dr. Ariel Ortiz and his center OCC were fantastic but they are on the high end when it comes to price and I can't afford to go back there. PNW Recommendations?
Blue Crystal replied to blackcatsandbaddecisions's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Thanks for posting all this information ladies! I'm in Seattle and have lost about 150 pounds and I think I'm coming to the end of my journey. Weight loss is very slow at this point - I checked my tracking on My Fitness Pal and have lost about 14 pounds in the last six months. Hence, I'm finally starting to consider skin removal. I have a couple recommendations for up here - one in Tacoma (Dr. Pratt) and one in Seattle (Dr. Salemy). I think I'm finally ready to make the call, and will come back and post prices and information here. I'm also looking at a chin life - surprisingly this is the part I'm most embarrassed about. My family lives in Portland, and I was pleasantly surprised to see a price of $20-25k for the procedures I'm considering. It's only a two hour drive for me, so totally doable if the cost is significantly less than the Seattle Area. I don't know that I'd be willing to travel to Florida - I'd have a hard time asking my husband or mom to accompany me when they'd really just be babysitting and wouldn't be able to do anything but sit in a hotel room for a week. I'd happily pay the extra $5k to not go through that. Also, the flying after surgery. Even a week post-op I'm sure you're feeling better but still not great. I can't imagine going through the airport and a six-hour plane ride in that condition. More to come! Edit - I called DR. Salemy and they wanted a $100 consultation fee. Does anyone else thing that's weird? I decided not to book with them at this time. I was able to schedule a complimentary consult with Dr. Pratt's office (although with a different surgeon, as apparently Dr. Pratt only does face procedures) - unfortunately it's not until August. I asked if they'd put me on a cancellation list if something else opens up. -

That very day I made chicken wings, ate 3 pieces no skin and very little dipping sauce but so satisfying. Definitely let your surgeon know what’s going on, it’s a simple fix if that’s what’s is happening. I haven’t had any issues since I had the egd with dialation on 4/27/2022. Wish you the best, don’t loss hope🥰 -
Considering surgery but don't know where to start
ShoppGirl replied to colebaby216's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you go to that pound of cure weight loss.com site arabesque mentioned of Dr. Wieners you can view some of his videos. He has tons elsewhere but the one that would most benefit you right now is where you can view it. It’s “which weight loss surgery is right for me” and to get there just click on the menu at the top right then surgery and which surgery is right for me and the video pops up. I found all of his videos incredibly helpful. There is also information thete on self pay options. -
Will I ever have my favorites again ??
ms.sss replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mandatory Disclaimer: this is what i did, and the results/side effects are particular to me. YMMV. With that said: Im 3.5 years out. If I wanted to, i could forgo weighing and measuring food to avoid physical discomfort…i have long since learned what my stomach likes/dislikes and how much it can hold at a time. BUT i still measure/weigh because i’m a serial food tracker/logger cuz that’s just how i roll. Its not for everyone, but its just part of everyday life for ME. Beer and Coffee: I don’t drink beer (never did), but i do drink hard liquor. I had less than 10 partial drinks during my 7 month weight loss phase, but am now a regular drinker…some may say too much, but whatevs. Coffee, i served at the hospital, and i went back to my at least daily thermos of coffee at around 1 month post op. Also, i started drinking my fave sparkling water again around the same time. I probably drink about 5-6 litres of it a week. Fave food eating: I can honestly say there is nothing that I don’t eat IF i want to eat it. Alcohol? Check. Desserts? Check. Chips? Check. Fried foods? Check. Mind u there are alot of things that WERE my faves and ate alot of pre-op that just don’t register much anymore. I’m looking at you, rice and pasta. I barely eat (nor want) rice anymore…basically only if its sushi. Same goes for pasta and bread…i mostly only eat it if Mr. makes it, and we are talking like once every couple of 1-2 months. The volume of what i consume of my “faves” though is like a fraction of what I consumed pre-op, but thats just fine with me…its all about taste anyway, not about stuffing myself. —————— All this works for ME, and may or may not be your experience as well…you won’t know until you know. P.S. I’ve been maintaining below goal weight this entire time, so i must be doing something right! 😇 -
Thank you!!! I have my fingers crossed for you. I have PCOS and while I was able to conceive my son naturally, that pregnancy jump started my PCOS and I gained all kinds of weight and couldn't lose it, then I had 10 total pregnancy losses and had to take fertility meds to have my daughter (and was never able to get pregnant again after that no matter what). I'm thankful for my son (age 24), my daughter (age 15 1/2) and my granddaughter (aged 10 months). With my daughter, my weight absolutely exploded, l and so now not only do I still have my baby weight from my son, I still have it from my daughter too. And then bad eating habits (couldn't lose the weight so I just kind of gave up) added to it and now here I am. And I have MS, so the need to get the weight off and maintain my mobility is imperative. I'm really hoping you get your date soon and get to join us on this crazy journey asap!!!!!

Hi! Happy to say that after almost 2 years of following in a weight loss medicine clinic and doing preop testing (slowed down by COVID) with this goal in mind I FINALLY have my surgery date of June 1!! Preop diet of 4 shakes and 1 meat/veg meal starts 2 weeks prior. Happy to find a forum of friends to talk with. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
Peonie replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've just come back from a two week trip to the US, didn't weigh while I was there, did lots of walking but totally gave myself a break with the eating and managed to put on 3lbs while I was there which was my first gain since my operation. I've managed to lose it again fairly quickly now I'm back and on plan and have just hit the 7 stone loss mark - 98lbs, which has put me dead on 200lbs - can't wait to get under that. Love reading everyone's stories! -
I did a lot of research as well & decided on the DS Sadi since it has a better long term weight loss success rate than the Sleeve. My surgery is on May 5th, so I’m currently on day 8 of my preop. My BMI is currently at 40 since I have lost some weight! My insurance thankfully approved it. 🙏 I’m getting nervous but excited.

Will I ever have my favorites again ??
Arabesque replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree 100% @Jaelzion. Besides clearer advice about portion sizes, food choices, food sensitivities or intolerances that may occur, etc., I’d also add discussions about things like stalls, hair loss, constipation... These issues can cause a lot of unnecessary anxiety. There’s enough to work through enough with the surgery, changes to our diet & lifestyle without these worries as well.
